hello house,

A colleague of mine resigned from the company I work and he was paid around N8.4m. This is really tempting. We resumed the same year and I even resumed 5 months before him. My annual take home is N3.6m before taxes. I don't know how much mine will be, but I'm tempted to resign and collect one lump sum to start my own business. I'm
confused now. Please advise.
Not yet, save 200k from your salary every month for 1yr.
Look for a business to invest in while at it, you will make a lot of mistakes that will amount to your loosing a lot of money.
shore up the buisness with your savings till it becomes stable and profitable, resign when you wish to expand your business.
Have you thought of buying land and fencing it every year till your job is over? you will have no idea what it will be worth after retirement.
8m is not a lot of money in Nigeria's buisness climate especially when you are a green horn.
If you loose that capital base at your trial stage, you will be finished.
Get yourself some igbo friends to know where they are sticking their money.
Politics › Re: How Philip Emeagwali Lied His Way To Fame by jpphilips(m):
bayooooooo:
1.Let me accept without conceding that my father was nobody, how's that related to Emeagweali claims? Does my father nothingness, so to say, make Emeagweali a genius? I am just curious how my father, or your father, is meant to make your argument logical, sound or strong.

2.When an organization (ACM) gives two different awards namely: (1) Gordon Bell($10000) and (2) Turing($250000) and the organization succinctly stated by their citations that Turing was higher ( the most prestigious one), does what you choose to believe matter? If you see red but call it black, does that change the actual color? It reflects more on who you are than what the color is.

3. What does closest to a patent mean? You made me laugh. How do your measure closest to being a patent? Patent or no patent, where is Emeagweali 'contribution' even being applied? In addition, why are you domesticating the 'achievement' of your god? I thought I would read "amongst all scientists working" without the adjective "Nigerian". Is he now a genius by Nigerian standard, hahahaha? Don't you know the best of the worst is still the worst? Who gives a f$$k about the second best, not to talk of an apparent fraud? So because Nigerians have no patents in oil and gas research, does that mean others are not filing and getting patents? Where then lies the genius of your god, Emeagweali? You are not bright.

4. Was it from his ocean and marine engineering that Emeagweali knew United States military was working on internet, even before windows was launched? hahahaha. It's cheering you have dropped your ridiculous line that he was the first to talk about US plans on internet even before windows was launched. Masters degree? Lol. So what? With his masters degree in 1987, who was he? He had no publications, he was not an authority on anything. So who listened to him when he was talking (read blabbing)? You apparently think idle rumors that you indulge in constitute a talk, prediction or an assertion.

5. Why do you like dropping names? Ogbuenyi said something about Emeagweali? Eehyyah. Why can't you let Emeagweali work speaks for him? I ask, again, where is Philips Emeagweali's work being applied? Did Emeagweali hold the fastest computation speed even as at the time he was given Gordon Bell? The simple answer is NO. He "won" that award because those who had the best result were not allowed to win more than one award. So where lies Emeagweali genius when his work wasn't even the best when he was dashed that award? . So, quit rigmarole and an obtuse argument. Even for brilliants folks, being the first to publish a paper on something or moot an idea doesn't translate to being the best or a genius or an authority on that thing. You have to show consistently brilliant and outstanding output to earn that.

6. Hmmn. How many lectures has your god, Emeagweali, delivered this year, even for those who can afford? Why would or should I listen to a fraud? Why would anyone want to associate with a fraud? He has been exposed for who he is, a fraud, and as such, no one wants him any longer. That's the simple reason people don't call him for lecture any more. I ask, again, can you tell me how many lectures he has delivered this year? Does he now give lectures in secret?

A daft m0r0n defending a fraud, you might be the first Nigerian genius to patent foolishness. Make we dey observe
I wish I had time to educate you, the reason you have no idea who and who are close to a patent or find the names I mentioned obscure is because you are a nobody.
"Nobodies" like you are not entitled to be discussing "somebodies".
Don't abuse your freedom of speech.
Your father is in the best position to discuss 1986 not you.

In a situation like that, ask them to sit, excuse your target to another corner and make sure you order nothing for the gooseberries.
Better still, pick a friend of hers who is prettier and focus all attention on her.

Family › Re: I Told My Hubby To Stop Using My Money.am I Wrong? by jpphilips(m): 5:00am On Jul 20, 2015
FavorofGod:
My hubby and I have had no financial secrets since marriage. He uses my atm regularly and it's almost as though we operated a joint account. This has worked for us until recently.

Now the issue is this: I'm saving for my masters school fees(distance learning) which invoves thousands of pounds. I had to defer it last year due to financial constraints. So from the beginning of this year, I had already started making plans to pay. Hubby promised to assist but each time he puts away some money, something always comes up to make him use it up.

I wouldn't have minded much if it was just that, but he turns around to deplete my own savings, promising to pay when he has money. I know he has no other means of income and cannot fulfill that promise. As it stands now, I've not been able to save a dime, and my fees is due in 2 months.
So I told him he is on his own as far as this month and next month's salary is concerned, cos I'm saving every bit of it. Some money being owed me at my place of work for months now was finally paid me yesterday. I didn't want to tell him at first, but later did this morning.

He said he was disappointed, that I've started keeping secrets from him. That he only spent my money because he was broke and not out of carelessness. I told him there was a cause.

He spends money as he sees it, and does not believe in saving for the rainy day. He is not frivolous, but will start projects he had earlier shelved due to lack of money as soon as he sees money. For e.g, He has been talking about hosting a big time baby dedication, and the whole family travelling to the village next month for holiday, which are all capital intensive projects, when he knows he cannot fund it with his salary alone.

I think he wants me to allow him use my savings, then hope for a miracle to pay my fees. I know he's not commited to my academic pursuits, though he claims to. He once used up money I had saved for a proffessional exam, promising to pay b4 the closing date, only to tell me to forgett about an exam I had fully prepared for a day to the closing date because he couldn't raise the money. I had to run around to borrow and pay that same day.

So, ladies and gents, am I wrong to have barred him from touchingmy money for thisperiod or not? Should I stop telling him how much I have exactly? Share your thoughts.
Do you know that men put up with housewives and their broke families, carter for them forever?
All these guys who are looking for working class ladies to be depending on, I dey laugh! !

Your husband uses your money what is the fuss? if he earned higher, won't you be spending his?

Didn't you know you earned higher when you married him?

Didn't you know that the reason he couldn't make it far in his career was because he never had academic pursuit? how do you expect him to support yours?

When will men understand that there is no peace when spending a woman's money?

You want to do your masters when your hubby has a WASC and you expect him to support you? are you related to Buhari? just kidding.

Meaning, Jonathan have access to more money than Yar Adua, but he depleted the Foreign Reserve and stil Plunge Us into Further Debt With NOTHING to show.

Records at the Debt Management Office now show that the latest domestic debt of the Federal Government as of March 31, 2015 had risen to N8,507,545,474,000 (N8.51tn).
This means that in the last five years, the Federal Government had borrowed N5.04tn from domestic lenders. It also means that within the period, the domestic debt of the Federal Government grew by 157.48 per cent, with virtually NOTHING to show for it.

So, when people are talking there is virtually no money left, you should ask or read to understand why, not being arrogant and puffy!

Goodluck!

I have produced two videos, recorded at different locations, where he was called a "Dr" or a "professor" and have quoted a man who actually interviewed him. Did he have an obligation to correct his titles when given a wrong salutation? Would he have kept quiet if addressed as a Thief Emeagweali or an Ex-convict Philips? He could care less when addressed as such? You can't obviously hide behind a finger and claim you are invisible.

I don't need to show you where any lists are ranked. I am telling you Gordon Bell Prize is nothing close to a Nobel. Look in the direction of Turing ($250,000), Draper ($500,000) and Marconi Prizes ($100,000) relative to Gordon Bell ($10,000). Read citations of those awards and tell me how Gordon Bell is the real deal.
http://www.acm.org/press-room/news-releases-2007/turingaward/

This is a brief citation for Gordon Bell Prize

http://awards.acm.org/bell/

and this for Turing:

http://amturing.acm.org/

It was Philips that told us that US was running an equivalent of internet before windows come on board? Lol. When did he make this earth shaking disclosure? Did you know when Windows 1.0 was launched? Windows 2.0 was launched in 1987, two years before Philips won Gordon Bell by default. So when did he make that disclosure and who was even Philip then ?

Lol.What you are doing is similar to calling a black student that actually came sixth in a competition, the best black student. Did he have the fastest computing record when he was given the award? NO! You made it sound as if he was prevented from partnering with others? So, what's the hype all about? He wasn't even the best as at 1989! He was given that award NOT because he had the fastest record but because those who HAD the record were NOT allowed to take more than one entry.

It's never in dispute that many contributed to the development of internet as it is today.
http://www.internetsociety.org/internet/what-internet/history-internet/brief-history-internet
http://www.history.com/topics/inventions/invention-of-the-internet

The focus is the role of Philip Emeagweali. What input did he make into the development of internet?

Philips was invited to give lectures because of lies he carefully told to the world. He was invited to those lectures because of the misrepresentation of his actual value; same way his image was embossed on Nigerian stamps based on those lies. However, since his lies have unraveled, can you tell me how many lectures he has delivered this year? Google Philip emeagweali and click on news! What do you see? grin grin It seems he now gives lectures and speeches in his living room as none is publicized.

Emeagweali is a fraud.
Show me where Philip addressed himself as a Dr in any of his publications or interview?

You are telling me to believe the Nobel Prize is higher yet you admitted there is no ranking, aren't you the liar here? How did you know which is higher without a ranking?
How about I believe Philip who told me both are apar, what is wrong with that?

Did you ask who Philip was in 1987? I don't blame you an Oshogbo conductor who benefited from Tecno internet revolution, ask your father what Philip was doing in 1987.
By 1986 when your father was impregnating prost!tutes in Oshogbo, Philip has already bagged a Masters degree in Ocean engineering.

Show me an individual with a better cost/performance computing in the world?

People like us who have been following events from time immemorial know exactly what Philip won, cave men like you who just heard of him have no idea what he did rather you resort to cheap slander out of petty jealousy, I ask you again, who is your father and what is his contribution to the development of science and technology in Oshogbo, let alone the world?

Show me one person you know who was first to simulate a program to apply a false-time approach to reservoir modeling?

Do you even know what that means? That area of science is not for dolts and bingos like you, pray you will find yourself in a drilling school, Philip Emeagwali will be introduced to you as a god,

Make no mistakes, amongst all Nigerians working on oil and gas research, Philip is the closest to a patent, go figure.

Even Okwudili ogbuenyi that Nsukka chap working for Schlumberger R and D, said that Philip Emeagwali is a genius, you a freaking nobody without a surname is peddling lies against him.

How many persons in your family studied Computational field dymanics let alone making a discovery there in?

Philip Emeagwali, succeeded where great scientists like Lewis fry Richardson failed. what do you even know?

When you can afford Philip Emeagwali's lecture, then we can discuss, for now, You will be more useful hung by the balls.

1. There are instances, in several interviews, where he was called a "Dr" or a "Professor" without Philips correcting such obviously undeserved titles. Now, if you know one or two things about interviews, you would know his hosts would have checked his Bio with him before going live.

http://saharareporters.com/2010/11/16/what-philip-emeagwali-told-me

2.Indeed, he claimed that Gordon Prize was the Nobel Prize of Computing. Reference @14:19 and @5:59 in this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMFy9sBLFQQ Is Gordon Prize actually the equivalent of Nobel Prize of computing?
Check these out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Bell_Prize and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_Award

3.If his entry for the award wasn't even the best but got rewarded because the best team were not allowed to take more awards, ask yourself, what's in such an award to make it a Nobel Prize? The notion that he submitted an individual entry as against team work added nothing important except that Philips possibly had a great potential. It would have been a different story altogether if his entry BEAT the one submitted by a team. Slice it anyhow, he was still the second best, not the actual best.

4.Ask yourself, if Philips is the father, sister, uncle or aunt of internet, what should we call those who actually had the fastest calculation even at 1989 award? Obviously, he won a graduate school equivalent of poster prize and has turned/misrepresnted the worth of the award.

5.If Emeagweali is such a genius that you called him, why is he jobless now? Or where does our genius work?
Your arguement is weak!

Show me where Philip addressed himself as a Dr in any of his publications.

Show me where all the world computing prices are ranked to know who is equivalent to the other.

He admitted others contributed to the internet, it was Philip that told us that the US military was running an equivalent of the Internet ever before windows was born! !
If he made an input in that regards, why won't you recognise him?

Whatever he won is recognized world over, who is your father? What did he win that we don't know about?

Show us an individual with faster computing in the world, Philip delivered 29yrs ago.

We cannot sell at subsidized rates. Because we are in essence forcing businessmen to act as charity workers. (If you ask a trader to give you the goods he is selling for free....don't be surprised if he says no way).

The subsidy regime makes it difficult to make a profit. Said profit is needed to pay salaries of workers....people like you and me.

That is why some people pretend to import fuel...and pocket the money instead. Apart from the fact that it is bad....it is sadly the only way they can make money to pay their workers.

Who told you that subsidy will deter refinery projects at low oil price? every maggot has an opinion on nairaland.

its obvious you don't understand what the op is talking about, from your respond you are describing how to get a girl which is not what the poster is talking about,he's talking about getting a woman who'll love him
If you are a woman, will you love someone like the OP? mind you, we can only speculate, none of us know him for real.
The solution is simple, he is not ruthless where he should, Mr nice guy get whimps not real men.
A good woman smell a real man from a distance.

Philip Emeagwali myths

This page briefly addresses some specific claims appearing on Emeagwali's self-promotional website and elsewhere. For a more in-depth discussion of Emeagwali's "outright lies, half-truths, and numerous unsubstantiated claims," see the article Self-Promotion and Self-Authentication: "Father of the Internet" by Chioma Ezeilo.

MYTH #1:
Emeagwali made the "world's fastest computation" in 1989

Each year since 1987, the judges for the annual Gordon Bell competition have given out multiple prizes for supercomputing applications, usually including one forperformance (fastest speed), and one for price/performance (best speed/cost ratio; specifically, "price-performance ratio as measured in megaflop/s per dollar on a genuine application"wink.

Despite what you may have read on the Internet, the 1989 prize for the fastest performance was awarded not to Emeagwali, but to another entrant:

In the performance category, we awarded the prize to a team from Mobil Research and Development and Thinking Machines Corp. [...] Their solution of a seismic data-processing problem ran at almost 6 Gflops on a CM-2 Connection Machine.

"Special Report: 1989 Gordon Bell Prize," IEEE Software, May 1990, p. 101

The winning speed of 6 Gflops was almost double that of Emeagwali's entry (3.1 Gflops, a speed that Emeagwali has repeatedly misrepresented as the "world's fastest"wink. The Mobil/TMC team achieved the best price-performance ratio too, but since no entry was allowed more than one prize, the price/performance award passed to Emeagwali (who also used a CM-2 Connection Machine) even though his score in that category was about 20% worse than the leading score:

We awarded the price/performance prize to Philip Emeagwali [...] His model ran at a price/performance of slightly less than 400 Mflops per $1 million. While the Mobil/TMC team achieved almost 500 Mflops per $1 million, we decided to award only one prize per entry.

"Special Report: 1989 Gordon Bell Prize," IEEE Software, May 1990, p. 101

See the yearly results for the performance and price/performance categories. In no year did Emeagwali achieve what he claims he did.

MYTH #2:
Emeagwali won computing's equivalent of the Nobel Prize

In spite of efforts by Emeagwali and his admirers to hype up his $1000 Gordon Bell award as the "Nobel Prize" of computing, the rest of the computing world continues to associate that lofty label with the Turing Award, which Emeagwali has never won. The Gordon Bell prize, however, is just one of many other annual computing awards, respectable but not at all comparable to either the Nobel Prize or the Turing Award in prestige or prize money. Nor are the selection criteria analogous: Emeagwali was awarded for his performance in an annual competition, not in recognition of lasting contributions to his field.

MYTH #3:
Emeagwali is a "Father of the Internet"

1. Emeagwali's paternity claims to the Internet are judged and found baseless. Emeagwali has not shown any evidence that he was involved with ARPA or any other research organization or company connected with the genesis of the Internet, nor did he express his ideas in technical journals or any other channel through which he could have influenced the development of the Internet during its formative stages.

2. Is there a father of the Internet? A discussion of the main contenders: JCR Licklider, Bob Taylor, Paul Baran, Donald Davies, and Lawrence Roberts.

MYTH #4:
The "Connection Machine" was invented by Emeagwali

A few Web sources expand the fallacy that Emeagwali created the fastest computer program, insisting that he was also responsible for the massively parallel supercomputer on which the program ran. However, the 65,000-processor "Connection Machine" that allowed such speedy computations was actually the brainchild of Danny Hillis and was built by Thinking Machines Corporation, the company Hillis co-founded. The fact is extensively documented on the web and is so well established that I won't devote more attention to it.

MYTH #5:
Emeagwali has lots of patents or patent applications

The number of Emeagwali's patents or patent applications is sometimes claimed to be as high as 30. However, a search of the USPTO and esp@cenet patent databases (as of September 2003) reveals the true number to be zero. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which has a fully searchable online database for all U.S. patents since 1976 as well as all current applications, simply has nothing on file for Emeagwali.

MYTH #6:
"Dr." Emeagwali?

Emeagwali is frequently referred to on his own and other websites as "Dr. Philip Emeagwali" or simply "Dr. Emeagwali." Though he did in fact enroll in a PhD program at the University of Michigan, he did not get the degree after failing his qualification examinations twice and having his thesis rejected by a committee of faculty members. Emeagwali subsequently sued the university, alleging civil rights violations and racial discrimination. His case was dismissed without trial. When Emeagwali appealed to a higher court, a three-judge panel rejected his discrimination claims unanimously.
I will like you to do this; quote any Emeagwali's article or website where he made those claims.
In a bid to exaggerate Him, people made spurious claims that he never admitted.

I could remember vividly his 1992 symposium shortly after the Gordon Bell award, at DMGS onitsha his alma matter, he said he has the fastest speed/cost computing in the world by AN INDIVIDUAL. .

The ExxonMobil team had the fastest as a group.

Most of those myths you wrote up there are mere figments of people's imaginations, he even said that internet has father, mother and siblings he equally mentioned one priest like that but he told us that his work preceeds the internet of today.

he actually advanced the early internet of the US military.

Guy, I listened to that chap personally not hearsay, you guys have no idea how smart that guy is.

Take it or leave it, Emeagwali is a genius till you place his statements in tandem with your rebuttals, then I will take you seriously.

I had thought you were giving us a honest review, but it is obvious who you are not an economist and you don't relate policies with what is really happening in the country and the world at large.
It is a known fact that there are limits of currency withdrawal from ATM's in every country, But a country does not fix limits on ATM withdrawal issued from another country. Greece had fix a daily limit of $66/60euro on ATM withdrawals (http://www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2015/06/28/the-latest-greece-wants-ecb-to-keep-giving-emergency-help). Every country looks at her peculiar problem and fix limits. In Nigeria the rate of ATM frauds is too high to the extent that if there is no limit ones account could be wipe out entirely, fixing a limit reduces the risk of someone loosing all his money from ATM. Mind you fixing limits does not stop you from doing your financial transaction because you can do transfers from your ATM. Don't also forget that the country is moving towards a cashless economy and because of that ATM limits must be set.

Secondly, you criticized the devaluation of the Naira. What type of economist are you? are you an economist that does not relate financial policies with the occurrences in the business world vis-a-vis your country? The price of oil dropped drastically and it affected all oil producing countries with the most devastating effect on Russia and Venezuela and other oil producing countries that depend solely on Oil. Countries like UAE and Saudi Arabia where able to shield the effect better than must other countries because they make a very high income from tourism and other sources of income and also because the fix their exchange rate....http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-11-15/oil-producing-countries-currencies-are-getting-crushed ; http://www.cnbc.com/id/102284853 .

Thirdly, you also condemn the CBN Forex policy on some products like toothpick ,rice e.t.c. Don't you know that the country had gained so much ground on Rice production and the resuscitation of the textile industries during the tenure of GEJ and such gains should be sustained and by this Forex policy coupled with the current financial reality affecting the country's foreign income don't you think it is the best for Nigeria and its a good move to protect our local industry?.

Please get your facts right before criticizing.
The mumu is an importer what do you expect?

It seems as though many have short memories. Many people say the previous Administration did not manage the oil boom properly, that is a flat out lie. We seem to forget quickly how Madam O.Iweala constantly fought the senate and house to keep the benchmark price of fuel in the budget low during the good days, while the senate and house kept demanding higher benchmarks. They fought her to a standstill over ECA and low budget crude benchmarks.

Many seem to also forget that after warring against the House of Assembly over the ECA the Governors came in warring her over consumption of money saved in the ECA. Every step of the way interested parties wanted to eat the money she was trying to save for the country.

For the confused ECA means excess crude account. This the account for the boom days in crude oil prices.Notice: EXCESS.

If we have no money today blame the Governors and the HOR.
And she didn't resign? hide bro!!
