Politics › Re: Gale Of Defection: What Really Is Wrong With The PDP? by JuanDeDios: 8:23am On May 17, 2025 |
SmartEnergyng:
By One Who Knows That No House Falls From the Outside Without Cracks Within
A gale is sweeping through Nigeria’s opposition — not the gale of power, but of desertion. And no party is bleeding faster than the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Every day, a governor jumps ship. Every week, a senator waves goodbye. And every month, a former stakeholder becomes a latter-day critic.
Yet the PDP’s first instinct is to blame the weather.
“They are being bought,” they say. “They are being threatened.” But when your roof keeps leaking, the question is not about the rain. It’s about your roofing sheet.
Let us speak plainly: what is wrong with PDP is PDP.
It is not Bola Tinubu. It is not the APC. It is not gale, wind, thunder, or political harmattan. It is the simple fact that a party once described as the largest in Africa now behaves like a ship without a compass — and worse, without a captain. Leadership is the first casualty. The PDP has not had a moral centre since Goodluck Jonathan conceded defeat. The party has drifted from one court case to another, with chairmen fighting like village kinsmen over a chieftaincy title — each faction more concerned with ownership than direction.
When history offered the PDP a golden moment — a chance to learn from its loss in 2015 and rebuild — it chose instead to pretend nothing happened. Like a man who wakes up in a burnt house and still searches for the TV remote.
By 2022, as the APC wrestled with fuel queues and Naira redesigns, the PDP had a golden opportunity to present a credible, united front. Instead, it stumbled into an ethnic war zone of its own making, mishandled zoning, insulted its Southern base, and handed the Labour Party an emotional advantage it never paid for.
And at the centre of this chaos is one man: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar — the perennial contestant, the familiar face on the wrong side of history. Atiku’s insistence on being the “last man standing” has become a bulldozer that crushes internal consensus. Rather than groom successors, he declares himself the only saviour left — like a prophet who refuses to leave the pulpit even as the congregation dwindles.
This is not ambition. It is addiction.
And now, the party groans. Governors leave, not because APC is perfect, but because PDP has lost its flavour. People do not eat saltless stew twice — no matter how nostalgic they are about the recipe.
What PDP needs now is not a press statement. It needs a mirror. It needs to look at its old mistakes: alienating the South, ignoring youth, mishandling internal democracy, running campaigns like inheritance.
Opposition is not a title. It is a discipline. It requires strategy, humility, and reformation. None of which PDP has shown since 2015.
So let the gale of defection blow. Let the rats flee. But when the house collapses completely, let no one blame the storm.
The termites were already inside. Something has always been wrong with the PDP. Can't go into it now. |

Agriculture › Re: Philosophy Of Crop Production by JuanDeDios: 7:27pm On May 16, 2025 |
betabread: Before venturing into the varieties game, pls ensure you know the crop hands down and factors that affect the yield bought in ur locality..... For example, why buy pioneer or tela maize when you don't have a mechanical planter at your disposal then sell the maize fresh, you are only increasing your cost input...... There are cheap local varieties with very big cobs ....... Also don't plant the local varieties with big cobs then sell dry and you expect the yields of hybrids just because you have the same number and size of cobs "corn pass corn O!!!!!!!" So you mean the improved varieties may not produce well if planted manually? Can you explain a little? |

Politics › Re: JAPA: 30 Percent Civil Servants We Sent Abroad For Training Absconded – LASG by JuanDeDios: 6:24pm On May 14, 2025 |
nairavsdollars: Lagos State Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, has disclosed that 30% of civil servants who embarked on state-sponsored training programmes abroad failed to return after completing their programmes.
Ayantayo made the revelation on Wednesday during a ministerial press briefing held to mark the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
According to the Commissioner, the state government had invested significantly in human capacity development by organizing both local and international training programmes for civil servants across various ministries and departments. However, a significant number of beneficiaries have not returned to resume duty, in what appears to be an extension of the “Japa” phenomenon, the wave of mass emigration by Nigerians seeking better opportunities abroad.
“Out of those sent abroad for training, 70% returned, while 30% unfortunately did not come back,” Ayantayo said.
He disclosed that between May 2022 and December 2024, a total of 23,420 civil servants benefited from various training interventions. Over 185 training programmes were organized during the period, spanning multiple cadres and thematic areas relevant to enhancing public sector efficiency, leadership skills, and regulatory compliance.
Additionally, he noted that approximately 8,000 civil servants were granted study leave over the last three years as part of efforts to further develop professional competencies across the workforce.
Highlighting other achievements of the ministry, Ayantayo pointed to the implementation of a N35,000 increment in the minimum wage for civil servants by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
In the health sector, he said the government had disbursed several financial incentives, including the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), rural allowances for primary healthcare workers, bonuses, and wage awards for staff of the Lagos State College of Medicine.
However, the Commissioner did not provide details on severance packages paid to outgoing political office holders, a subject that remained unaddressed during the briefing. https://thescrutinyng.com/jajapa-30-percent-civil-servants-we-sent-abroad-for-training-absconded-lasg/ Then stop sending them abroad. Nazgul: The first time I received serious flogging from a Masquerade was during this Imo Awka festival in Awka. I was schooling in Awka then and as a Lagos boy we were meant to believe that Masquerades don't flog people, they only beg for money.
I was walking on the road that faithful day without any knowledge that any kind or form of celebration was going on, that's how I ran into them, about 3 Masquerades with dozens of followers all holding long canes.
As I tried walking through them without paying any attention to them, I suddenly felt a painful whip on my back, I shouted and another follower whipped me again, I ran and another one chased me and whipped me, I fell down, and injured myself, but got up and ran away.
From that day, whenever I'm in the east and I see any Masquerade, I'll just enter the nearest shop or building and take cover until they pass. You should not have suffered that. That was very uncivilised of the festival and it's promoters. These things need to brought into modern times. |
Politics › Re: Oil Marketers Flood Jetties With 283,577 Metric Tonnes Of Imported Petrol by JuanDeDios: 7:02pm On May 12, 2025 |
PressMyButton: I'm loving this, since President Tinubu opened up the oil sector, it has become a chess game, a price war, call it anything. Remember that Dangote had said on several occasions he has enough fuel to go round, therefore, there's no need for markerters importing fuel. From the article above, you will see where Dangote exported 44,000 tonnes of diesel, very sure he also exported petrol and other products as well. Meanwhile, as that was happening, the marketers ignored Dangote to go import their own petrol into the country. For me, I am neither here nor there, I don't want market monopoly, at the same time, I do not want marketers boycotting local refineries to patronize foreign refineries, I do not also want too much pressure on the dollar for fuel Importation. So, I am caught in between. However, Dangote is a Don, from what I am observing here, he's a badass capitalist that knows his way around the market. He has warned the importers that he has enough to go round but the marketers insisted they will only buy from where it is cheaper as the market is now a free market. Dangote would then wait for them to go place an order abroad and when their petrol is on the sea, Dangote reduces his own price below the landing cost. By the time, the marketers received their products, they are left with no choice than sell it at Dangote's price. They dare not sell above the price of Dangote. With that, the marketers run into losses. I heard them crying two months ago that the price crashes made them incur losses when Dangote again crashed the price after FG renewed the naira for crude deal. My observation so far is that Dangote is still controlling the market price and whenever the marketers decided to buy from abroad, he reduces his own price to punish them.
