The average Ghanaian will pronounce words with the schwa sound like sun, cup, cut, love, etc better than an average Nigerian. But that doesnt take away the brilliance and great English speaking ability of a Nigerian.

If you listen to a well educated Hausa or Fulani speak English, you will see it is closer to the original English than that of a Yoruba or Igala or Igbo person.

I don't think their intonation is better though. Its overstressed more than the original language speakers. What is cam when you want to say come or cap when you want to say cup? I've listened to British and Americans speak and they don't sound like that.


What I know Ghanians do better is say the original English words better. Nigerians have a lot of fabricated words that are not in the English language dictionary.


Ghanians seem to overstretch the words. And the funny thing is if you speak anything outside than what they know or are used to then you go explain tire.


You go to a shop and say you want to buy cup instead of cap you go stand there explain tire for minutes. (Sometimes I think they do it purposely. I had to stylishly tell a woman to stop trying to correct my intonation all the time like a primary school teacher and sell for me. Indians, Chinese etc speak their English the way they do with stronger intonations but nobody insists on speaking a particular intonation) Nigerians are more used to different intonations maybe because of our population and diversity in intonation though.

Trump is in a very tight spot. He wants this war to end badly but doesn't seem to have many options.

His first option is to escalate further; bring down the full force of the US military on Iran, destroy Tehran and as much infrastructure as they can. But this is his most dangerous option because this war does not have popular support in the US, thousands of civilians will die, and it still does not guarantee Iran will capitulate. Perhaps even more worrying for him is that Iran has the capacity to wreak havoc in Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Doha, Manama, Kuwait City and Muscat. These are very important allies of the US; they just can't afford to lose.

His second option is to send in ground troops to capture one or two islands. The problem is not capturing the Island but keeping it. The Iranians will happily let the troops land on the Island and start firing everything they have on them, meaning the US will suffer more casualties and it still doesn't guarantee the Iranians will capitulate.

His third option is to do a ceasefire. This will most likely be more humiliating for him than the MOU, because Iran will obviously not give up the Strait of Hormuz, and they will use delay tactics to kick the nuclear issue down the road.

His fourth option is to maintain the status quo. Sustained but restrained bombing of military targets and a naval blockade, hoping it will force Iran to come to the table. However, oil prices are now high and above; with the Houthis blockading the Bab-al-Mandab Strait, prices will likely continue to go up. So, this is not a sustainable strategy.

These are all bitter pills to swallow and Trump must swallow one.
