Some people are too intelligent you are one of them sir
I am also an educationist , I graduated from Adeyemi college of Education Ondo affiliated with OAU

With my few years of teaching I have seen many politechnic graduates do well than those who studied educational course. I have a friend who say she can never teach and she study education while one of my friends studied engineering and he developed passion for teaching.

For those that Love to teach but do not study education just go for your PGDE to balance it up

Teaching should be passion over certification
You're absolutely right. I am an educationist, but I didn't study education and if I would blow my trumpet, I would accord myself the title of the most productive and pacesetting staff member at my school

Moving on, when you take out passion and will from a profession, what is left is chaff. I'm not even looking to run a PGDE because it might be counter productive. I'm however, looking to sign up for a PhD in either educational psychology or special needs education. Bagging either of these would push the bar of my achievable goals and milestone higher

You can’t compare professions in that way, some professions are talent base, didn’t you study skilled, unskilled and semi skilled labour in your Economic text book while in Secondary school?
Do you need much training to help someone carry load , you need so much skill to wash plates, you need so much skill to iron clothes, you can’t compare years someone will spend to be expert in laundry to years he will spend in learning tailoring, mechanic, Photography.
That’s what we are pointing at, you might not need any certification to play football, to sing, to speak, to dance, to run, etc. Teaching is like that. It’s those that are talented, passionate and skilled about it that will enjoy it more. The certification is just a format, because it’s what they are, you don’t need to tell a rabbit to run, that’s how it is.
When comparing professions, you can’t classify them in a class, their are some profession that everybody on earth can do but they might not only be interested in it. Do you know a gate man only opens and closes gate, who can’t do that.
So, that’s how it’s, some professions require you going to school to acquire the skill but some, you don’t need to go to any school for certification, you can even do it without knowing what a school is.
Spot on!

But to me i think it’s skills, no be everyone whey read theater art dey act. That’s how teaching is. Most of the so called content creator and actors no go line art class in secondary school and them they act. Teaching should be mostly on passion skill before certification.
Thank you for breaking it down for him.

This is the Lingua Franca of virtually every teacher in Nigeria. One has to be proactive to make the best of the profession.

No good laws to restrain those who didn't read education from practicing that is why private schools can be bold to bargain a graduate 20k in 2025 for teaching more than 15 learners monthly .They know if you don't accept it another person not qualified(under graduate or someone who didn't read education)would take your place.
I have my TRCN Certificate and License and currently practicing.Nigerian senate need to help Teachers(Qualified Education Graduates).
It is well.
There are graduates (BSc. MSc. And PhD holders) who did not stem from the teaching line, but are doing far more exploits in the teaching profession than the trained teachers. I think the focus should be on impact rather than path (education line or otherwise)

Paternity fraud can happen whether couples have sex before marriage or not. That's the main point here. undecided
Nobody is contesting that. I only examined the issue from Op's perspective (hypothetically). That lady couldn't pin the pregnancy on him because it is over a month old and op was not intimate with her around that time.

Are you kidding me? If she had been having sex with her ex, only to conceive just days before the wedding, and the child popped out approximately 9 months later, would it have changed things much? No be the same paternity fraud abi na forcing another man's child on OP we go call am? undecided
Stop acting like a kid, bro. You don't have to discredit someone else's submission to drive home yours. You aren't wrong neither am I. Live and let live. This aggression that you exude is beginning to be palpable(not in a good way).

Um.... you are the one not paying attention at all. That he did not have sex with this one does not mean the next one would not wait until after the marriage to force OP into fathering another man's child. Paternity fraud can happen even after marriage. grin
Oh! Interesting. You are absolutely right and I'm wrong. My point doesn't matter because even a 2 month pregnancy can be pinned on a newly married man and it's also absolutely normal for a full term baby to be born at 7 months. Kudos to you!

Did you at least calm down to understand my point of view? I am not in support of cheating in any way. It was easy for op not to be trapped into fathering another man's child because (I think) they were not intimate before marriage. In cases like this, the man is dragged into a paternity fraud without his knowledge. Tone down the aggression please. It's too early for that.

God bless you for your benevolence and largesse towards Teachers. It gladdens the heart when people understand the struggles of an average-earning Teacher. Though your offer states clearly the desire to sponsor a candidate for a Masters Degree programme, would I be overstepping if I asked for a PhD sponsorship? I have a Masters Degree, but gunning for a PhD with my current job is like parting the red sea with zero faith and injunction. I strongly believe that this is my "mustard-seeded-faith at work here.I pray I also find favour in this regard.

Like Staying in somewhere isolated in Nigeria where security agencies dont protect citizen, like do you have a way of protecting yourself if you meet bad guys or something.
I dont think any lady can try this because it will really be unsafe, that's me tho, you should enjoy yourself
I'm a lady and the idea seems right. Only that I may not execute this in a secluded place. Has to be in a village where I can mingle with people and also get the best of nature. Plateau state comes to mind.

You actually can, although not very common here in Nigeria. I am in Lagos, but I was lucky enough to find a piece of land in Ogun, and it was so cheap cause it was in the middle of nowhere. I had help building the cabin, and it was close to a running river. It was perfection. I installed solar, a water filter, and a couple of other necessities. Every 3 to 4 months, I retire to the woods and stay a couple of weeks then return to civilisation. I am a hardcore introvert who enjoys his own company, so staying two weeks alone with my dog is heaven. I hate people.
I love this. As a nature enthusiast, I would definitely give this a trial. However, did you factor in security? Be safe out there!

Generator can’t stop you from sleeping..

I don’t think it’s that significant.
It actually can. I've been in this dilemma before. The generator runs all through the night. If noise pollution was a machine, it would be this gen. It was so loud as though the machine was in my room. The owner turns it on at 7pm and turns it off at 6, completely taking sleep off my eyes mo matter how I tried. As someone who cannot afford to sleep in the morning due to my studies, I had to move out of that compound.

RomanceRe: Who Can Explain What's Going On With My Brother. by Juliearth(f): 1:33pm On Mar 31, 2025
Jacktheripper:
I am typing this with a heart that is pounding so hard that I can hear it in my ears. I swear on everything I hold dear, if not that I have no one to share this with, I wouldn’t have said a word. But maybe, just maybe, someone out there will have an answer.

This nightmare started in 2013. Our family used to be six, but by the end of 2012, we had become four. Death took my father and my grandmother within months of each other, and the house felt emptier than ever.

We live in a four-bedroom apartment. My mother has one room, my sister took another, my elder brother had his own, and I stayed in the last one.

There is a tradition in our home: once it is 9:30 PM sharp, we all gather in the sitting room for night prayers. How long it lasts depends on my mother's mood, sometimes just five minutes, other times, one full hour of binding, casting, and fire-fire prayers. After that, everyone goes to bed.

That’s why the morning of August 2013 felt like madness.

We had prayed as usual the night before. There was nothing unusual, no bad dream, no flickering light, no shadow moving where it shouldn’t. Yet by morning, my brother was gone.

And when I say gone, I don’t mean he packed his things and left. I mean disappeared, as in vanished from the face of the earth.

The two doors in our house were locked from the inside. The window in his room had iron barricades, unless my brother suddenly became the size of a house cat, there was no way he squeezed through, and there was the window net which was screwed from the outside. His iPhone, which I have always eyed, was lying on his power bank at the edge of the bed. His shoes and slippers were exactly where he always kept them. In fact, there was no sign that anyone had slept in the room at all. The only odd thing was that the door to his bathroom was open.

That was the moment fear gripped us by the throat.

We called our relatives, our church people, even that elderly man down the street who always had one proverb for every situation. Nobody could explain it. Nobody had an answer.

Let me tell you about my brother.

He was two years older than me, a 200-level engineering student at the time. He was the quiet type. The kind of person who could be in the house for days, and you’d forget because he barely spoke. If you wanted to get along with him, the best thing to do was to leave him alone. He didn’t go out much. He didn’t party. He didn’t even have close friends. Just his laptop, his laptop, and his thoughts.

We never reported the case to the police. After the way they handled my father’s death, my mother swore that we would rather trust in God than go to the police.

One day turned to one month. One month became one year. One year became eleven years.

We placed a camera in his old room, thinking maybe, just maybe, he had played some elaborate prank on us. But deep down, we knew. My brother wasn’t the type to play games.

I have always heard that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but that's only when you know where the person is. Otherwise, absence turns the heart into something else. Something frosty.

Time became the river through which we paddled our canoe. Or at least we tried. My mother stopped mentioning his name, at least publicly. I couldn't count the times she had cried silently, hoping we wouldn't hear, and I pretended along. I learned to push thoughts of him to the back of my mind.

Then came December 2024.

I was in my apartment when my phone rang. It was my mother. Her voice was shaky. She said I had to come home immediately.

I asked what happened. She couldn't string her words together. She sounded like a radio struggling for a signal.

That night, I barely slept. By morning, I was on the first bus heading home, my mind jumping from one terrible possibility to another. But when I saw my sister in flesh and blood, I breathed out like a teenage girl checking her pregnancy test and seeing one red line.

But nothing, nothing, could have prepared me for what my mother said next.

She took me to the police station and introduced me to my brother.

Or at least, a man who looked like my brother.

The same face. The same voice. He even had the same slight gap in his teeth, the same way of adjusting his shirt when he got nervous. And when he was asked to repeat what he said the day before, he knew everything.

He knew all the things only my brother should know. Our inside jokes. The gist we had over my primary school crush. Where we kept important documents. The exact location of the spare key to the back door, where we initially pumped water from, even my sister didn't know that, because she was too young to remember.

But when we asked the most important question, his mouth froze.

"What happened that night?" "Where did you go?" I was almost tempted to ask if he was abducted by aliens.

His face was blank. No answer.

The last thing he remembered was walking to his room after night prayers. Then, according to him, he "woke up on a school field."

He couldn't remember any of it. But what he could remember was even scarier.

He remembered all the details about our lives since he disappeared. My mother's shop that was built in 2019. COVID-19. The school I went to (I started school in 2014), the time my mother was admitted to the hospital for over a month in 2022, and how I couldn't return to the hospital one of the nights because of heavy rain.

He recalled them as if he were there, not from afar but from inside. But I felt something was wrong, or maybe I'm only overthinking. He was more of reciting the events as if he had read them in a book. His tone was flat, like a Siri reading out the news. No nostalgia in his voice, no emotion in his eyes. It made all the hair on my skin rise as if they were giving a standing ovation at that moment.

He spoke as if no time had passed at all.

But eleven years had passed. And the man sitting in front of me wasn’t the same person. My mother doesn’t believe it’s him. My sister doesn’t believe it’s him. I don’t believe it’s him.

We are now waiting for the DNA test results as I write this.

But even if the results say he is my brother, he will not be setting foot into our house.

For now, he is staying with the police. We are paying for his welfare, but that is where it ends.

Because whoever left that night in 2013… is not who came back in 2024.

Jacktheripper:
I wouldn’t have called my late father’s number if I had known what was waiting for me on the other end. But as they say, curiosity killed the cat.

A Little Backstory...My dad died in 2020, just before the COVID-19 wave hit the world. But his was not a pandemic-related death, it was a car accident. One moment, he was coming back from work; the next, he was gone. We buried him less than a week later, and that was it. Life moved on… well, at least for everyone else.

For us, his wife and four children, were left to figure out how to exist in a world that no longer had him in it. But apart from the usual grief and occasional cries in the bathroom, nothing out of the ordinary happened.

One fateful day, I was scrolling through Twitter when I saw a tweet that MTN recycles old numbers and gives them to new users. The replies were filled with people confirming this horror.

My curiosity woke up from its long nap and stretched dramatically.

Wait a minute, what about my dad’s number? Nobody had touched his SIM since he died, and it wasn’t linked to any bank account, so I figured it must have been reassigned by now.

So, naturally, I did what any reasonable person would do. I dialed the number.

And, not to my surprise, it rang.

I chuckled. "MTN, well done. Anyway, let me wait for the person to pick up so I can tell them it was a wrong number before they start hunting me down trying to figure out who called."

But then they picked up. And the voice that said, "Hello" was... familiar. Too familiar.

It was my father’s voice.

I ended the call so fast, I nearly flung my phone across the room.

At this point, my whole body was vibrating like an overused tiger generator. But I’m a rational person (or so I told myself), so I turned to Google for answers. That was when I stumbled upon something called auditory pareidolia, basically, when your brain tricks you into hearing familiar voices in random sounds. That made sense.

So, I called the number again to prove to myself that I was just "pareidolia-ing" (yes, I just made that a word).

I called the number again.

This time, it was unreachable.

I tried the next day. Unreachable.

I tried for weeks. Still unreachable.

I even took things further, checked WhatsApp, Truecaller, every caller ID app I could find. Nothing. It was as if the number didn’t exist.

I didn’t tell anyone, because let’s be real, imagine explaining to your family that you think Dad’s ghost might have answered a phone call. I have been called weird enough, I don't want to add to it.

But then, around two months later, the knocking started.

At first, it was small. A knock here, a knock there. We assumed it was one of the neighborhood kids playing a prank (Even though that explanation makes no sense, as our neighbor doesn't have kids, and our house is fenced).

But soon, the knocks became frequent.

Morning. Afternoon. Evening. midnight.

It got to a point where nobody in the house could sleep properly.

The worst part is that whenever we opened the door, we saw nothing. No sound of footsteps running away, no neighbor pretending they weren’t involved. Just silence.

It became so frequent we had to call for intervention. CCTV cameras were installed. Nothing. We called in the uncles, the cousins, even the nosy neighbors, everybody investigated, nobody found anything.

It was when the knocks started happening inside the house that we knew it was time to carry our bags and go.

We called in spiritual reinforcements. The prayer warriors came with their holy water, anointing oil, and enough incense to suffocate a mosquito. They sprinkled, they prayed, they chanted, they burned things.

Finally, they said, “It is done. You can move back in.”

And because it was our only house, we had no choice but to believe them.

Thankfully, the knocking stopped.

But my curiosity didn't stop.

I didn’t think too much about any connection between a random phone call and the mysterious knocking on our door. After all, strange things happen every day.

So, I kept trying the number.

One fateful evening, the line rang again.

I had my script ready. The moment they picked, I would say, “Please, is this Mr. Felix?” (my dad’s name). If they said no, I’d apologize and move on. If they said yes…well, God abeg.

The person picked up. And before I could speak, I heard:

"Stop calling this number."

Not in English. Not in a strange voice. In my father’s exact tone and our local language.

Ah. Who sent me message?

I tried calling back immediately. Unreachable.

At this point, my brain was screaming “Let it go!”, but curiosity had already replaced my common sense.

That night, at around 2:12 AM, we heard sweeping in the compound.

First of all, who sweeps at that hour?

I turned to my mother. She turned to me. The unspoken agreement was clear: We must confirm what is going on.

We stepped outside. Nothing.

No person. No broom. No sound of footsteps. But the sweeping was loud and clear.

For months, this unseen housekeeper continued. Sweeping the compound. Sweeping the passage inside the house. And yet, somehow, the place never got cleaner, everything was the same except the sound of sweeping.

At this point, enough was enough.

We reached for the leftover incense from the first time. If it worked before, it must work again.

Despite all the warnings from the universe, I still wanted to know who was behind the voice.

So I still kept trying to reach the person, and finally, on November 21, 2024, the line rang again.

I opened my mouth to speak, but my tongue refused to move.

I tried again. Nothing.

The only thing I heard from the other end was “Bye.” In my dad’s voice.

The call ended.

From that day till now, my tongue has remained twisted. I have not been able to speak a single word.

I wrote everything down for my mother. We went to the MTN office, provided every document they asked for, hoping to track the person who answered the calls.

Their response was cold: “There has been no activity on this line since 2020.”

We have seen every doctor possible. Nothing. Nobody can explain why I cannot speak.

Our last hope is an appointment with a top doctor in India this August. Until then, all I can do is wait.

And most importantly, maybe never, ever call a dead man’s number again.
Please tell me this is purely fiction...
