P:S. These two have not been convicted in anyway, so you can not say they broke the Law. Like I said, their acts should not be condoned if they are found to have broken the Law, however, I was only trying to highlight the manner in which the UKBA goes about her fight against sham marriages ( which in my opinion is in a completelyunprofessional way: hiding in a vestery!). Also, the Rev. claimed to have being contacted by officer of the UKBA TWO days before the marriage was to take place and in my opinion, the Rev. should have used his Godly wisdom to investigate these couple further (or was this not the norm in churches when suspicion is raised about any marriage?)before the eventful day! My comments about Nigerian churches is simply based on the fact that if it were a Nigerian church/Pastor, effort would be made to investigate these couples prior to their wedding and Has it occured to you that the UKBA has never come out in the open to mention cases of sham marriages conducted in a Nigerian church/Pastor in the UK? Why are most of the sham marriages always in the so called English church with white Rev.? ( P.S.: I am not a racist only stimulating my brains with some thoughts!). P:S. In a decent democracy/society, you evalute both the PROCESS and the OUTCOME of an investigation and not just the outcome alone!
You don't seem to understand what the prob is here, this is marriage for paper hence the concern of UKBA. They have to do everything posible to make sure that the system is not abused. English church with white Rev can not verify the couple without going through UKBA, they might have noticed something fishy when interviewing the couple and contacted the UKBA to verify. Don't blame the UKBA for doing their job, blame the couple who were silly enough to make a fool of themselves. If the Black churchs with Black Rev were the best, many black couple wouldn't be going to English churchs for wedding. Some of us Nigerians are always ready to abuse the system without any shame. Many nationalities do sham marriage but they do it with common sense and respect. |
notjustok:They are doing their job by prevent pple from abusing the system. |
@ Omo_Tier1 Sorry i have to disagree with u here, these two broke the law, what on earth were they doing getting married if they don't care to know jack about each other? Even if the marriage is for papers, they should have saved their backside by doing it with some common sense. This got nothing to do with whether the Rev is oyibo or black, they made a fool of themselves and deserved the out come. Why would any church get involved in such a shambolic marriage anyway? Please don't bring patriotism into this. Black Rev ministers shouldn't be joining two complete strangers in holy matrimony. |

babaowo:Please don't be silly. |
muskham:The chances of him or her regulating anything is zero, even if he marries British or EU citizen he has to return to Nigeria and re-apply for visa. |
muskham:How many yrs ago? And is the visa still valid? |
**wonders why this not-so-flattering topic is the only commonwealth games topic on the home page** whatever happened to a topic like Odumosu rakes in 400m hurdles gold making the homepage?perhaps Litmus was right when he said: and whatever happened to benefit of the doubt, which we always seem to accord other foreign athletes that find themselves in similar situations? *smh* we are indeed our own worst enemy!
What benefit of doubt? They bouth tested positive, test A and B came out positive, i don't feel sorry for any cheat, i'm proud of other team Nigeria who worked hard and deserved their medals and not a cheat. They both brought shame to Nigeria and Nigerians |
Even IAAF officials know too well that Nigeria is not, has never been and will never be a drug cheat Nation! We are known to excel in sports with 'raw' talents hence the reason you can find up to 5 Nigerian born/Athletes of Nigerian origin competing for the UK. I think there must be some loose ends on the side of Team Nigeria medical team since this very substance as alleged (by the Head of Anti-doping team of Team Nigeria) can be admitted very easily by drinking sports water or even inhaling some perfume which you may not even have come in contact with! As for Samuel Okon, his refusal to go for a B sample should not be taken as an admission of the offence. Sports men and women go through so much psychological trauma, especially when they fail to achieve their set goal in an on going competition! HOWEVER, should He be found wanting, He should be thoroughly investigated ( to unearth what led to him taking the banned substance and the people involved) and He should be banned from ALL sporting events involving Nigeria. This would send the message out to anyone who may contemplate doing this in near future!
They should be questioned as well, they might have known what those athletes were taking. Unfortunately the rule is the rule. |
bisiaet:I make no apology for my comment, i stand by it. |
chickyamma:I doubt if that will be posible. |
bisiaet:You are just sounding like a sad loser, if u don't know how Indians got the golds why not read up more b4 coming here to rant? The games are live, watch it and see how they won it. |
ahonohai:You don't want to go to Jerusalem? ![]() |
Litmus:Why exactly are u suspecting them? They are doing better than Nigeria in medal table, so where is the jealous coming from? |
guddsid:That means he cheated his way to the Commonwealth Games then, denying the right person the chance to be at the game. |
Litmus:Exactly!! but from the little we know now, he tested positive and seem to have accepted that. Blaming Indians is not the answer. Lets stop playing victim card here please. |
Litmus:Why do you think he declined the second test? Lets not start defending anybody here and face the facts. Not only Nigerians tested positive, Indians as well, so why are you suspecting Indians in the case? |
second Nigerian has failed a drugs test at the Commonwealth Games. Samuel Okon, 24, who was sixth in the 110m hurdles won by Andy Turner, tested positive for the same drug as women's 100m winner Damola Osayemi. According to Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell, Okon is waiving the right to the B sample test but this has yet to be confirmed. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/commonwealth_games/delhi_2010/9082481.stm |
