BossLaifay: About 1 in 200? Seriously? Is that what you classify as opportunity? Even when ur course is on the shortage skill list? No "guarantees"? That's not what I call opportunity Mr. Opportunity is being given a pathway to stay for a couple of years to get some experience before returning home (if you wish). Equal opportunity that is not hinged on employers sponsoring you. But what do I know? When gurus like you have the answers to everything No its not 1 in 200 and there is nothing like equal opportunity when you are holding a visa, that visa has rules and regulations. British citizens are not guaranteed a job after graduation so why are you expecting foreign students to be given one? Why are you demanding or expecting equal opportunity from a foreign govt and not from Nigerian govt? ..and to your last part.. yes i have answer to everything deal with that. |

Abi am I getting dense? Cos this is what I grabbed from his write up. But I guess its a case of half empty half full-people would see what they choose to see. ..and that is a not true because the opportunity is there if you bothered to do your research and apply. |

lebete3000: So visiting visa is that useless?
It's just to allow you spend your hard earned cash I guess. Ds oyinbo ppl do have a superiority complex while blacks have got the other. No its not useless, the problem is with us Nigerians we have no respect for any constituted authority, we want to abuse any system given the opportunity. Visiting visa means just that..visiting, not work or study visa. This is not about superiority as you called it, its a convince a excuse. We get angry because we get caught doing the wrong thing not because we regret what we have done |

Ishilove: You have boxed me to a corner On a serious note.. my issue with a thread like this is the amount of misinformation it contains. Its not true that foreign students don't get a job after graduation, just like in every country not many get that job after graduation. Job opportunities are there IF you qualify for one. Despite all the tough immigration rules the number of foreign students coming to the UK to study has increased. We shouldn't mislead people in the name of Enlightenment. Don't come to the UK if you are looking for a way to leave Nigeria by all means through education, invest your money in Nigeria or look for scholarship. |

Geeeeez! If I haven't lived there I would even doubt my own post. There are JAMAICANS up and down the UK. You don't need to believe me, YOU JUST NEED TO GET OFF THIS PAGE
Why are you so bothered? The person who got a job in BARCLAYS must have married someone with papers. Barclays bank WILL NEVER EMPLOY A NIGERIAN DIRECTLY FROM NIGERIA despite having a branch in Lagos! I even cited them in my original post...
Don't come here giving people false hope. Don't lie here. Nah.

@Aphrodite007 please ignore this one. lol..another ignorant post from you, she is not even married to anybody let alone somebody with papers. She got her Msc here in the UK and applied for job here without leaving the country. You refused to do your homework. Yes you will search for ages to come across a Jamaican foreign student in any university in the UK, very very insignificant number of them. Me stating that does not make me a bigot, maybe you need to have a hard look at yourself. |

Amolad111: @ekpotek and other gurus in da house.
I am a new member and have been appreciating all the contributions so far.
My issue is I am planning to apply for UK visa with my wife and a son (note that we have 2 kids staying behind) . I am fully employed and have a registered business also. The balances on both accounts is about 1.2M. But the bulk fund is in the company's account. Should I leave the major funds in the company's account or personal account?
My job has a fixed pay and variable pay - commission, and my wife is also paid the commission. Should I attach my wife's statement of account but with little balance?
We have all documents including feeding and accommodation from my in-law in UK but the fund is my concern.
Please elaborate the procedure to me. How much will this trip cost you? |

pls I need your advice....
my wife and 4months old daughter will be applying for their visa asap.
so my question is this...
1. how do I introduce my daughter to the ECO? should I include her name in my wife introduction letter from work to the embassy or I should introduce her with a self introduction letter?
2. when filling the application form should I make a new application for my daughter or the mother's application form will do?
my wife was a teacher b4 we got married and now she is a full housewife so how should I prepare her letter also can I use my own company's letter for her?
thanks and looking forward to hearing from you. 1. No you don't have to introduce her separately, include that in the same letter for your wife and attach her birth certificate. 2. Yes your daughter need to have a separate application. 3. there is no special way of preparing the letter and yes you can use your company's letter head. |

Aphrodite007: Because you still have faith in the shortage list. Lol, that’s so ‘80s . Don’t mind me! The shortage list works for experienced pros. Now that sponsorship is hard to give, they don’t keep it for graduates work less than 3 years work experience.
If you think I’m lying, let’s do this, if you know someone that has less than 3 years work experience in a STEM field that got a job and isn’t being sponsored by the NHS, that did heir master’s in the UK and graduated between 2015 and now, please tell them to come and enlighten us. It will be an honour to meet such a guru! A very close friend with less than 3yrs experience was able to get a job with Barclays bank in their IT department, she got her first job before the current one with absolutely no experience in IT field apart from her Msc qualification. You don't generalize, foreign students do get a job after graduation in the UK. |

Aphrodite007: *Clears throat*
1) working in Nigeria is harder in Nigeria, true, but I got a job in Nigeria within two months of returning. That’s how good I am at my field uncle. The only thing that hindered me from getting a job was sponsorship in the Uk, they wanted to keep their sponsorship for more experienced experts. My professor (Emerita) in school spoke to the owner of a web design company to employ me, but the owner explained to me that all she could give me would be an internship for the duration of my stay because of the sponsorship hassles.
2)I had no idea about everything you wrote. I always believed the US was more expensive and didn’t know about the 4 months stay. I knew nothing! That’s why I’m trying to give back to the community.
3) yes you get preferential treatment when you’re an EU/UK person, I think that’s fair. I would want my country to do same.
4) I studied a course that’s in bloody demand IT And I’ve got a British certification to add to it too. I am in Nigeria but keep getting invitation mails (and apparently phone calls frombhead hunters) for job interviews that fit my expertise. I didn’t get headhunted when my address was a Nigerian address, until I put up my UK address and mentioned that I wouldn’t be needing a “sponsorship”.
5) low ranking or high ranking, the UK is desperate for people to work for them, they actually pay their citizens to go to uni just course they need the expertise. So when they see someone from a shortage profession that doesn’t need sponsorship, they pounce on them.
I understand that it’s been years since you last experienced the work situation in the UK, so please let me enlighten you ok. I’ve learned too much from you, now it’s my turn to give back. There are no jobs in the UK unless you want to work for the NHS who need experienced med staff more. If you like be on the shortage list, nothing for you until the home office relaxes their sponsorship laws a bit.
The UK govt owes me no job, true, so they should keep their job, I’ll keep my money, there’s peace.
Cheers boss. How do you know that? |

baminasri: Part of the "reading", " reading " and "planning" was why this thread was created. These vital information disseminated here will never be found on any UK school website. Nothing here is new, infact this sort of thread springs up in this section almost yearly and still people still make the same mistake. I will bring up similar thread somebody started here last year. |
Travel › Re: Nigerians - Leave The UK (United Kingdom) ALONE!!! by justwise(mod): 9:18am On Feb 25, 2018*. Modified: 6:56pm On Feb 25, 2018 |
Aphrodite007: First of all, I am just seeing nairaland. Had no idea it existed and that it is this great (gotta compliment you guys).
Secondly, it is precisely because we want to help people do their research that this thread was made. Everybody knows the pros but only few knows the cons. Now people who do their research can learn about the cons because of this thread, so what’s wrong with what we are doing? The universities don’t put this information on their website, so we have come together to put our experiences so people are better informed and don’t make mistakes. How is this bad?
I will say this again. I gained a lot from the UK. Honestly, working in the UK was never the plan, my folks wanted me back within a year, I just wanted to sly them by applying to work there- I knew I was going to get a job immediately I returned to Nigeria.
However, I will not pretend (like you are doing), that a lot of people go to the UK with hopes of remaining. I am trying to fight for the poor ones that slave and borrow that money with that hope at the back of their head, so they do something else with the money. Is this a bad thing?
I respect you a CRAZY lot justwise, but It’s wickedness like this that’s stopping Nigeria from moving forward Cos what you’re literally saying is “eh even though the economy in Nigeria is hard, let them borrow money and come to the UK, study and return!”.
We have no beef with the UK govt (lol, how dare we?!) we just want to tell it as it is so people don’t bother, Abi are you getting paid according to the number of Nigerian students that are in the UK? No, is either you deliberately refused to understand what i'm saying or you are just being mischievous. My message to anybody planning to the UK is to read read and read, plan BEFORE you decide to come to the UK, know what you are entitled to, don't start crying and regretting coming to the UK after you might have invested the money already. If i'm getting paid by the number of Nigerian students coming to the UK to study i would have been pretty rich by now..i mean really loaded. |

saouri: Apart from EU & UK citizens, American students get preferential treatment as well. South African students, Kenyan students, Jamaican students and even Zimbabweans get these jobs at a higher rate than Nigerians...
I am talking about my former classmates here who have lesser experience and in some cases even lower grades...
There is discrimination against Nigerians. This thread is not about entitlement!!!
We are directing those who have ears towards better paths. Simple! I don't believe you, alarmist. How many of you have seen Jamaican foreign students in the UK? It will take you years to come across more than 5 Jamaican student in any university in the UK. |

Aphrodite007: Ok I am quite irritated at some comments here. A lot of “educated” people believe that we feel entitled to getting a job in the UK and that we believe that the UK government is meant to give students jobs, etc. There’s even someone that insinuated that the thread is hindering people from going to the Uk after we have gone and enjoyed it.
Smh
Education is meant to give you skills to work! Let me make this clear. So those saying that the UK degree gives knowledge have got it very wrong, I don’t need such expensive knowledge if I’m going to sit at home to count cars. Ok.
The thread is meant to inform people that they wouldn’t work in the UK after their studies. It’s doesn’t say that the UK govt must give us jobs, no, it’s just meant to collate people’s experiences and dissuade others from wasting their money. There are other countries where you’d spend less and get more.
Finally there is something called value. Value is getting a good return for your money. If I spend 8mill on education and I can’t work to get the money back, whether I’m the UK or Nigeria, I didn’t get value for my money. All you people in the UK enjoy value for EVERYTHING but now that we are asking people to demand value for their money by going elsewhere or just staying back in Nigeria, you’re upset? Such Double standards!
Oh and one more thing, yes, if it were Nigeria that was a business hub where immigrants came and stole our jobs, we will be upset. So it’s understandable and quite sweet that the UK wants to protect their citizens- I respect them immensely for that. The UK laws are solely the business of the UK, and they do not need to check with Nigerians to create the laws- this, however, doesn’t stop me from insulting them (like I insult the Useless Nigerian government) when I’m annoyed.
This message to to sprinkle clarity on this thread. Yes that is why you should read read and read then PLAN!!! before you invest your money either in education or business. Did you do your research before coming to the UK? You have no right to insult the British govt because they are not under any obligation to provide job for you. You pay the school fees and you get the qualification..end of the deal, whatever comes after that is just act of generosity. |

Aphrodite007: You see what you did here? This is exactly what saouri and I are doing. We are telling prospective students not to bother going to the UK if they intend to work. I don’t think it’s fair for anybody to backlash at us, most especially if they got into the UK before the post study visa was withdrawn or are working in the med field. There is nobody that wants to go to school because it’s sweet, we all do it to land a job. We aren’t being entitled by feeling bad that we couldn’t get to work in the UK, after all, if our country was any better, would we troop into the UK in he first place?
The point is to create awareness (quite frankly I am tired of saying this) about the near-impossibility of getting a job there. Simple. Let people be aware of this then make up their minds on whether it’s worth the investment or not. I getting irritated at the condescending remarks I’m seeing on the thread! Yes people need to be enlightened but do it without misinforming them. You and saouri are being disingenuous just because it did not workout for you. 1. You can still work in the UK after graduation through Tier 2 work program IF you have what it takes, nobody gives you a job just because you have shinning pieces of certificate, even in Nigeria getting a job is hard after graduation. 2. This is the bit that got me nut..before you apply to study in the UK you knew that getting a job is hard, you knew that the fees are high, you knew that you have 4months to stay after graduation BUT STILL you went ahead to invest your millions of naira expecting miracle. The UK govt never promised you automatic job position after graduation so why are you here moaning about injustice done to you? This is the case of mental laziness and this attitude of entitlement, if you have done your homework before applying to study in the UK you would have known that.. 1. Getting a job in the UK after graduation as a foreign student is hard and competitive because British and EU graduate will be priorities first. 2. You need to study a course that is in demand and listed in occupational shortlist https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration-rules/immigration-rules-appendix-k-shortage-occupation-list, that increases your chances of getting a job. 3. If you graduated from low ranked university your chances of getting a job with that qualification is slimmer, this is the problem with many foreign students because low ranked universities are cheaper and easier to get admission into. |

idolda: Good morning @justwise and other guru in the house. Please I have a situation and I need your advice
My best friend will be graduating in July (PhD program) from Nottingham University and wants to invite me for the graduation ceremony. Here is my situation :
1. I work with state Govt and earn a little bit above 100k but as at the time of typing this (less than 6 months to the time) I have zero naira in account balance 2. I have an unregistered business in Nigeria with my graduating friend but I run the business and the money is paid into his Nigeria account. He transfers my own share into my account at the end of each month which is usually between 100-350k 3. I will be hosting students in Nigeria for an online course by a top USA university from April to June (people already signed up) and over 1million is expected to be deposited into my account by students (100 students) within 10 days out of which 400k will be mine after paying the school the course fees. 4.I was denied USA visitor's visa in August last year and I spent 3 weeks in East African countries of Kenya Uganda and Rwanda in November last year. 5. I'm married with kids but will be traveling alone and intend to spend 5 days. I will be responsible for the flight and other expenses but will be staying with him and his family during my visit. 6. I plan to have between 1-1.2million in my account when applying for visa
Questions 1. Will there not be a problem with visa considering that my opening balance is poor? 2. Is the monthly transfer from same friend into my account not pose a problem for me? (He has suggested to start sending the money to my wife account and from my wife to me) 3 Will deposit of over 1 million by 100 people within 1 week not pose a problem during the visa application? 4 will denial by USA have effect on the outcome of my visa?
Your response will be highly appreciated. Thanks 1.Yes there will be because the ECO will focus mainly on your financial capabilities and your source of income. 2. It wil pose a problem if you don't explain the arrangement clearly. 3. You need to clearly explain that payment and the source, add as much paper evidence as you can to support your explanation. 4. Yes if you withhold the info. |
