Thank you justwise for your reply. I do work sir. I earn 30k in a month. My Dad now has about 1.3M closing balance. Can I use his bank statement or I should transfer the money to my account?
theHanafis:
Moreover @Justwise, I was working with the state government earning 30K in a month. But currently, I'm newly employed as a university lecturer. I was employed in June and since then I haven't got paid. Newly employed staffs only get paid after 3 months. The letter of introduction from employer I used for my visa application was from my university (department) but my bank statement will show no evidence of working with them because i haven't been paid since employed. Is there anything I can do regarding this? Should I attach my appointment letter, university staff ID card to my application and deposit the 1.3M to my account if I must use my own statement? Remember the monthly earning from the state government in this account is 30k.
Please don't waste your money applying for visa until you can afford it yourself because that is what gives you strong tie to Nigeria.

As a grown up adult you can't present your father's bank account for tourist visa application, this is not study or medical treatment trip.

The question is this..why are you in a hurry to travel to SA as a tourist when you can't afford it?

You just started working not even for 6months, not paid any salary yet and you want to take a holiday to SA?

Please how much can one have in the account to qualify for a visa, with my family. I earn 300k monthly
A breakdown of the cost will give an idea how much you need for the trip. your salary is ok though.

Remember to keep the cost moderate

Hi everyone! I applied for SA visitor visa in Abj on the 24th july and it was processed in eight days but I was denied and the reason was insufficient funds. I actually used my Dads bank statement which has 400k plus. Pls what minimum balance should one have in the account? Im going to SA for another visa interview which will b scheduled this month ending. Ur kind response will b appreciated
You don't qualify for visa with that amount and using your daddy's bank account.

Do you work and how much do you earn monthly?

No, this blog isn't managed by scammers, its a genuine blog. I just want to make brief contribution. Canada embassy in Nigeria have not been granting visas to genuine and qualified applicants recently, especially people using hotel booking to apply for Tourism visit. Though an invitation letter is not a guarantee of getting Canada TRV and likewise having a UK or US visa doesn't assure anyone of getting it. With reference to recent GCMS notes contents from friends and colleagues denied the TRV, Canada embassy doesn't consider hotel booking and tourism visit as a " COMPELLING REASON" to visit Canada due to Nigeria's current economic recession ( Stated on all GCMS notes recovered ) hence they ticked "PURPOSE OF VISIT". Most guys do make mistake by thinking that "Purpose of Visit" denial reason means lack of explanation of travelling purpose by the applicant, not that's not correct. I think applicants from Nigeria needs a more compelling reason to visit Canada apart from Tourism. Almost 98% of guys I knew applied for Canada TRV using Hotel booking got denied and they've visited US and UK without violating visa terms. However, that doesn't mean all applicants using hotel booking or applying as tourist would be denied.
That is a total ridiculous allegation with no evidence to back it up.

Yea I have two middle names Christopher and Okey.
Though I rarely use Christopher. But since I did my BVN(which I ignorantly filled Christopher). If I open any bank account since then, even if I fill in Ajah Obinna Okey as account name, once the account is opened and linked to my BVN it becomes Ajah Obinna Christopher.
If your first and last name are the same in all your documents then its not much to worry about, though you need to explain this in your visa application or get affidavit to support that particular account.

Alternatively you can empty that account by paying your fees from there then submit only one account.

Hi fam. Please I need clarification on this I intend applying with two bank accounts, both belong to me and presently I don't have the time luxury to move to one account and use it.
Here's my fix: On my international passport my name is stated as Ajah Obinna Okey that's what my CAS and one of the accounts bear. On the other account my English name was added: Ajah Obinna Christopher. Do you think this is an issue or should I just get an affidavit.
P.S I'm doing a tier 4 application.
Cc @justwise and Company
Don't move the money to one account just make sure that both meet the 28days rule, my first student visa refusal was because i moved my money into one account even though i explained this in a letter the ECO still refused me, i ended up in immigration tribunal to fight my case.

Is Christopher your middle name?

Mallam! Must she state that categoricallyhuh It worked for her and didn't work for other pple. Why discourage it totally?? Why should where and how I birth be a major concern for VO officers? If its wrong to use a birthing center, am sure the VO officers would have empahised it the way they always emphasis paying your total Bill. If i gave birth at home or in the car nko? I just feel as long as you pay your bills and get ready for unexpected circumstances during the birth then you are fine.
alhaja yes she has to state that during the interview because it has something to do with cost/affordability and risks involved with birthing center

Yes where and how you birth is a major concern to VO because they want to make sure that you can afford it.

This is my second time using a birthing center and I renewed my visa without issues and I believe someone here also had same experience. In fact with my previous birth, I presented payment confirmation and signed contract at the point of entry when I was asked for hospital documents and the man raised no issues, he told me they just need to be convinced you will pay your bills. I haven't seen any document that rules out the use a licensed birthing center in the US if you take full financial responsibility, they are not government assisted.
The difference in cost of a birthing center in Houston area and hospitals like Oakbend may not be more than a thousand or two. For me, it was cheaper because of my unique circumstance. What if one my main reasons for seeking to give birth abroad is because I want an out of hospital birth that I cannot get in Nigeria? VO based on personal convictions may refuse someone wants to use a birthing center but it also has to do with how you present your case.

For me the biggest risk is the possibility that you may need to go to a hospital if issues come up during delivery.

These are my personal thoughts and experience.
During your first interview did you tell the VO that you will be using birthing centre?

olukemiyemi:
Good day people.

I wanted to share my experience has I have gained a lot reading from what other people share on here. This is the second baby I've had in the US. The first was in Virginia, while I stayed in with family in Maryland. Virginia is significantly cheaper depending on your choice but distance was a major challenge for me. This time we decided to do Houston because it was going to be more cost effectve.

I traveled with Turkish airline on May 27th to JFK and spent time with my friends before heading out to Houston. Point of entry was surprisingly easy, I did self check in, printed out a receipt and only thing I was asked was the kind of food I had on me. No questions asked my purpose of visit or my big tummy (I was huge). I was really grateful for that.

I had gone very far with planning for Houston before I noticed in the document one of the doctors sent me that they do not allow VBAC (virginal birth after CS). I found out later that this was a Texas thing, most hospitals will not allow a woman that has had a previous CS try to get birth vaginally. This is my 3rd, I had a VBAC with my second, so I didn't see any reason to have a planned C-Section. We searched for Drs would do VBAC and we found one who uses Ben Taub. The cost estimates was significantly higher than using Oak bend or any of the other cost effective hospitals/doctors. The Dr's fees alone was about $5400 for normal delivery, so I contacted a midwife/birthing center as back up.

I visited both the midwife and the Drs at Ben Taub (they are 5 minutes apart in distance) but we eventually settled for the birthing center because my chances of having a natural delivery and staying within my budget was better. We had Ben Taub as backup in case going to the hospital became necessary.

My baby came on the 12th of July at the birthing center, it was easy and the best birthing experience of my three births. Baby came 2 weeks late and was happy to not have been under any pressure to be induced. Antenatal visits was easy and schedules flexible, service was very personal, midwife came home to check on us after the birth, they had free group prenatal classes and breastfeeding support meetings.

I know people on here have made a valid point of the risk of using birthing centers but for VBAC mums like me, who really want do things naturally and are low risk, its definitely an option. Also a cheaper option if you are low risk.

I got the birth certificate in less than a week, I've got the passport and also got approval for the Nigerian visa on arrival in less than 24 hours. I sent an e-mail with all necessary documents to the immigrations email address (oa@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng) and was very impressed to hear back from them same day.
Still not a good idea because of the risks involved and you will struggle to get your visa renewed or even get a visa if the VO knew that you will be using birthing center.

The

But oga justwise my school has not issued me CAS I will be having my pre cas interview next Tuesday. During the precas statement check they said that the amount in my account meets up with the Ukvi requirements but before they issue me CAS they will have to check again to see if it's still within the range. This new rates have exceeded the amount for my maintenance. I am afraid.
Simply educate your school as many of them are just clueless(i'm sorry to say this), many schools are just covering their backside so as to avoid getting your sponsorship license withdrawn by UKBA.

What your school is doing is not part of visa rules, its just their own rules because unfortunately many students lie about their financial capabilities.

So if you deposited your money today at the rate of 478 and your preCASE interview takes place today you are deemed to qualify financially, but if the preCASE interview takes places tomorrow at the exchange rate of 480 you will be disqualified, so does that make sense?

So, I put in a little even more than i was advised. However, the rate surge is quite high (478) and now ive fallen short today. The last it was this high was in May.

The rates as i have monitored for a while doesnt stay up for long, usually fluctuates up and down.. It should come down pretty soon. just keep up with oanda lol.

I think its safer to apply on days when the rates can carry ur money.
Don't bother yourself with exchange rate fluctuation as long as you deposited the correct amount or even more from day one. You can't control it and you can't keep topping up each time it goes up.

Not a single person i know has been refused because of exchange rate fluctuation since the start of this thread 8 yrs ago.

The only case i remembered was the person who deposited less and hoping that exchange rate dropping will benefit him but he was refused.

There is no such thing as 'complaining' here Mr. I asked a simple question. If you have no tangible answer to the question, that's a different ball game entirely. BTW, nowhere in my post did I mention being a student in an African country and despite the side questions included, how many answers did you find here?
P.S: I know you're a mod but it is what it is.
I stand by my first post, don't tell others what to do regarding this, just do it yourself and see how many people who want to travel to those countries to study/live or work.

Henryyy:
Why do we have threads like
Nigerian students in Canada: How do you survive?
Nigerian students in USA: How do you survive?
Nigerian students in UK: How do you survive?

But never a thread dedicated to Nigerian students studying/ or wishing to study in African countries. I know a couple of people who dream of studying in Ghana, SA, Benin etc, but can't find genuine information on living conditions in these countries and i hear Ghana, and even Benin Republic churns out quite a handful of Nigerian-born graduates annually.(Had quite a few as friends during NYSC). So why is emphasis placed on western countries but hardly any attention is paid to Africa as a whole? This is a honest question and i would appreciate if a mod answered this.

Side questions:
1. Are you a Nigerian schooling in an African country?
2. How do you survive?
Am just curious and am sure someone out there will find your answers helpful.
