Stormtrooper11:Nigerian politicians do not loot billions of dollars yearly. This is the sort of ignorant comment that fuels insecurity in Nigeria. What is the national budget of Nigeria? How much goes to capital projects and recurrent expenditure. |
Stormtrooper11:IFVs are a far more effective system than a Tank in COIN operations. Modern IFVs carry a 30mm, ATGM and still transports 9 fully kitted troops. They are faster than a Tank, easily maintainable than a Tank. They also cover larger areas, and can be used for reconnaissance. War is not won by determination, but by employing the right strategies, tactics with the right mix of equipment. A very good and recent example is the war between Azerbaijan and Armenia. There is no substitute for employing the right mix of equipment. |
Stormtrooper11:Nigeria lacks money to properly fund our military. It costs billions of dollars to procure equipment buy spares and train soldiers. Nigerian lacks money and also lacks monetary discipline. |

CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF LAUNCHES FOUR SEMI BALLISTIC GUNBOATS CONSTRUCTED BY NAVAL SHIPYARD LIMITED The Chief of Defence Staff, General Leo Irabor on Monday, 25 October 2021 launched four Semi Ballistic Gunboats constructed for the Defence Headquarters by the Naval Shipyard Limited in Port Harcourt. According to the Chief of Defence Staff who was also the Special Guest of Honour for the occasion, the decision to provide armoured gunboats for operations was informed by the need to provide added protection to troops in the discharge of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s responsibility of ensuring safety and security of the nation’s maritime environment. Speaking further, the CDS reiterated the confidence emplaced on the Naval Shipyard Limited by awarding the contract to construct the boats. In his words, “From all indications and from what we are seeing here today, the decision has proven to be a wise one. I must also state quickly that the decision was borne out of the need to support the shipbuilding capability of our Armed Forces in order to improve local capacity and expertise for the production of our defence needs”. General Irabor further commended the Nigerian Navy and the Naval Shipyard Limited for achieving this feat despite the interruption of industrial, commercial and economic activities that emanated due to the outbreak of the COVID -19 pandemic. He further stated that this achievement would be a boost to enhancing military presence within the waterways in order to mitigate maritime security challenges in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. The General enjoined the end users of the ballistic gunboats to imbibe the culture of maintenance to ensure their longevity. In his remarks, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo stated that the construction of the Semi Ballistic Gunboats is yet another milestone achievement by the Naval Shipyard Limited in the provision of necessary support to the on-going effort at combating threats to the nation’s maritime interest. Speaking further, Admiral Gambo said the protection of Nigeria’s maritime environment remains a key mandate of the Nigerian Navy hence the need for developing requisite capacity for ship building as well as provision of necessary logistics support for the sustenance of the fleet. Therefore, the construction of the platforms and their subsequent induction into the maritime assets of the Operation Delta Safe would bolster the operational capacity of the Joint Task Force in the Niger Delta area. The Chief of the Naval Staff expressed delight on the project and appreciated the Chief of Defence Staff for the patronage as well as trust and believe in the capability of the Naval Shipyard Limited to build the boats for the Defence Headquarters. He said the achievement has contributed immensely to the development of expertise of the Naval Shipyard Limited and expectedly a cost saving option considering other competing demand for scarce resources. According to him, the endeavour also aligns with the Federal Governments agenda of encouraging local content towards developing indigenous capacity and reducing dependency on external vendors. The Admiral reaffirmed that the Nigerian Navy will not relent in its effort at developing the capacity of the Naval Shipyard Limited stating that the Navy is exploiting partnership with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer to further develop the infrastructure and human capacity of the Yard towards national socio-economic development. The event was graced by very senior officers from the Defence Headquarters and the Services.

NAF AIRCRAFT SUSTAIN OPERATIONS AROUND THE LAKE CHAD Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft under Operation Hadin Kai have continued their onslaught on terrorist and insurgent targets on islands and localities around the Lake Chad. On receiving credible Intelligence on 20 October 2021 that about 20 boats with suspected Boko Haram /ISWAP terrorists were converging for a meeting on an Island in the Tumbuns on the Lake Chad and at Malam Fatori, 3 NAF aircraft under Operation Hadin Kai were scrambled to carry out strikes on the targets. Reaching overhead the targets, the pilots observed a gathering of about 20 boats consisting of 5-7 suspected terrorists in each boat. Using a mix of bombs and rockets, the 3 aircraft carried out series of strikes and scored devastating hits on the targets leaving some survivors scrambling for their lives. The operation by the air component of Operation Hadin Kai yet again confirms the high concentration of terrorist and insurgent elements hibernating in the Lake Chad general area. Working alongside the Army and Naval components as well as other security agencies under Operation HADIN KAI, the Air Component will continue to sustain its operation until the area is rid of all terrorists and insurgents. Thank you. Edward Gabkwet Air Commodore Director of Public Relations and Information Nigerian Air Force 22 October 2021

shadowprimezero:I was looking forward to the previously reported UCAV purchase signing. It didn't happen. While the agreements are commendable, we have been here before. Nigeria is fantastic at signing agreements, nothing really, actually materialises especially when it has to do with government. Who are they supposed to partner with, DICON? Isn't there an existing contract between DICON and Sur , a Turkish company, what has come out of that relationship? It would have been better if we had the likes of Proforce , NMT , EPAIL etc etc during the ceremony. Anyway , let's see how it goes. On the other hand it seems The Nigeria Navy has reportedly placed an order for 1x OPV-45 and a SA’AR S-72 Fast attack vessel from Israel shipyards Ltd. |

OPERATIONAL VISIT: CNS CHARGES TROOPS TO BE VIGILANT, ALERT …promises improved welfare, provision of assets/logistics The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, has urged officers and ratings of the Lake Chad Naval Base in Baga, Borno State to be extra vigilant and alert at various duty posts at all times in order to neutralize insurgents and other criminal elements in their area of responsibility as well as avoid any act/conduct that could compromise their safety and undermine the security of the base. The CNS reminded the personnel of his mission and mission statement and urged them to work towards realizing the vision in line with the directive of President and Commander-in-Chief’s promise to end insecurity in Nigeria. The naval chief stated this when he paid operational visits to Baga on Tuesday. While addressing the officers and ratings, Admiral Gambo said the relocation of Naval Base Lake Chad to Baga constitutes a key operational objective in the ongoing effort at ending insurgency in the Northeast`. “The military high command in general and the Nigeria Navy in particular recognize the critical role of the Naval Base Lake Chad. We are committed to ensuring that the Naval Base continues to carry out its operational mandate and indeed make Nigerian Navy proud.” The CNS commended the personnel at the base for their good conduct and urged them to maintain the standard. He warned them to avoid substance/drug abuse which is capable of compromising their health and operational effectiveness and stressed that the Nigerian Navy would hand over any personnel found wanting to NDLEA or the appropriate government agency. “I commend the Commander and ratings of the Naval Base Lake Chad for your professional conduct and for successfully returning to Baga. Your effort is very necessary for the overall success of the entire operations in the North east. I urge you to maintain the momentum in collaboration with other services so that desired results can be achieved.” On welfare of personnel, the CNS said he was aware of the needs of personnel on operational deployment and assured them of his commitment to addressing their welfare. The CNS emphasized the need for cooperation and synergy of efforts, insisting that the prevailing national security challenges demand robust synergy of effort by the Armed Forces, Nigerian Police and other security agencies as well as all stakeholders. He said that the peculiar nature of the Northeast theatre of operation necessitated the participation of troops from neighbouring countries under the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) which required cooperation, synergy, cordial working relationship of all components and contingents of the participating countries in the theatre in the interest of national and regional security to defeat the common enemy of terrorism and insurgency. The CNS who restated the commitment of the Nigerian Navy in collaboration with other services to ensuring that the new year is ushered in with a high degree of economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin, promised provision of operational assets/logistics to enable the Naval Base function effectively. The CNS also charged the commanders to build a robust civil-military relationship that will help in winning the hearts and minds of the communities by carrying out corporate social responsibility activities such as provision of boreholes among others. In their separate remarks, the Commander, MNJTF, Major General Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim and Theatre Commander, Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Christopher Musa, commended the CNS for taking operational tour to Baga on a public holiday adding that the visit has boosted the morale of the troops.
