Beowulf: I find it shocking how people so easily dismiss other people's beliefs on here as delusional or unscientific because of western education. You would be shocked that there are more to life than meet the eye or that can be explained away by science. This world is just too profound for that. I recommend some of you watch the feature BEYOND BELIEF:FACT or FICTION on Sony Channel of DSTV and have your "scientific and empirical"reality shaken.

I have experienced this sleep paralysis many times and still do and for me it is nothing more than demonic oppression. I don't want to bore you with the details but trust me when I tell you that I have had cause to wake up from it and felt a foul presence around me. Like most people said here, as much as I tried I never could get up on my own until I start screaming the name of Jesus in my mind and that's when I come to. I am not a good Christian but am not ashamed to say what works or has worked for me. If that makes me unscientific it's no skin of my nose. But the measure of an educated person is an acknowledgment that there are some things that are beyond his knowledge and which he just cannot fathom.

My two cents. Keep the change
I agree with you. I mean everyone can have their own interpretations or beliefs but no need for people to brush them off even if there is a scientific explanation for it.

It's what they believe.

^the discussions became boring because you're chatting shyt. Plus, it seems like you have starting seeing the light by accepting the concept of equal responsibilites (Helping eachother around etc) and not limiting a woman to a box.

..Still doesn't make me a feminist.

By saying a man should manage the woman, it implies control. Why does a woman need a man to manage her, I asked you? Can she not manage herself.

Do yóu enter marriage to 'manage' a woman? Is that what marriage is to you?

I'm done.

You claim not to be a feminist but you uphold and defend feminist views cheesy
I stand anywhere there is injustice. Doesn't mean I'm one. I.e. White people defending the blacks during slavery doesn't make them blacks or slaves.

Division of labour is said to create gender roles, which in-turn lead to gendered social behaviour.
Men's unique physical advantages in-terms of body size and upper body strength provides them an edge in those social activities that require such physical abilities.
Social activities? What social activities? So, because of a man's body build, he can't help with household chores? Take out the bin, help hoovers whilst the wife washes or vice versa? Sounds like a lazy excuse.

The traditional role of a man is to be the hustler, to provide: a bulk of the family's finances, shelter, be called in to maintain discipline (not necessarily physical), mentor the children by laying examples and ultimately manage the woman.
Traditional role, oh boy come off that mehn! These days everyone is a hustler even children. The world isn't getting any richer for 80% of the population and the man's income alone won't suffice a family unless he's earning a substantial amount and then some. Today's society calls for both women and men to go out in the work force.

Like I said earlier, the woman manages the home, while the man manages the woman-- gender roles! It's a joint thing, "united we stand,..."
You talk of a joint thing but still stand to seperate men and women? How does the work? They are opposites. The man manages the woman? What? So, the woman cannot manage herself, ehn? A man has to manage her and put her in her place? Na wa!

I don't know the kind of men you know, but I'm not your beer parlour guy and their are brazillions of guys like this.
Men are not taking responsibilites for their homes and families. They feel it's the woman's job to do everything.

Responsible married people spend time with their families. Spending extended time outside the home is not advisable. Anyway, nobody holy pass wink
You say this but still insists from your previous posts that it's the woman's job to bring up the children and if anything goes bad, it's because of the woman's inabilities. What is the man doing at home then(if he's actually at home)? Lazying his azz around, acting like a king? Why shouldn't he also be blamed for their children turning out bad?

That I made an example of a few prominent people does not mean they are limited. And matriarchal systems plenty wella. If women were slaves, those people won't have made it to the throne. BTW, did I not mention "ordinary citizen"? Paranoia na serious disease o.
Wetin paranoia come do with this? Because a couple were on the throne still doesn't mean that men didn't try to 'manage' them. They were still seen as inferior. Let's take the english queen, is she the one who makes all the decisions in her country? Wetin parliament come do for there? My guess is even those egpytian queens you mention still had men telling them how to run their kingdoms.

Please discard this beer parlour prejudice. Not all men are that way. And it's wrong to make an example of evil. Absence of the father or mother is not a good thing.
It's the truth. Instead of being at home and jointly bringing up their families and home, men are out there playing single.
It's not a good thing but there are huge amounts of men who have abandoned their posts in jointly bringing up their children and that fact should be made known.

Mother mother mother. Ofcourse. Our mothers are our first loves. We spend over 70% of our home times with them.
Religion: In an hadith of the holy prophet Muhammed(SAW), a man asked the prophet "who I should honour more between my parents", the prophet(SAW) replied "your mother". Then the man asked, "and who comes next?" The reply again: "your mother". He asked the third time and the reply was the same. It was when he asked the fourth time the prophet replied: "your father".
Another saying: "The salvation of a child lies under the feet of his mother"
Another one: "Train a child and build a nation".

What else Kandi? What else? huh
Are you honouring mothers by telling them they should be in the kitchen? Why do you have to limit a woman's ability to the confines of the household?

Inability to prepare palatable meals is not good enough, it's also a pointer to major flaws in the lady's upbringing.
Come on, stop this nonsense. Another stereotype.

seunajia: Oppress women? shocked The current lifestyle that you feminists are pushing is even more oppressive! You guys now take up roles that make it difficult to live well due to the pressures on both fronts.
If women were really "suffering" as you feminists want us to believe, how come we had women leaders as: The Queen in England, Nerfertiti and Cleopatra of Egypt? Great influential ones as Aisha(RA) Wife of the Prophet Muhammed(SAW), Mary-Macdarlene, Mother Theresa, Mary Slessor? etc. And ordinary people who were great Doctors, teachers, Novelist, etc?

Stop planting hate and spreading falsehood, Stop teaching our daughters against us. Everything is not a competition, no one is witch-hunting you.
The oppression is just a figment of your imagination. No one has said women should remain entirely at home or not vote and ish. Even the traditional African women were traders and not confined to the house. They just had flexible schedules which allowed them be good, present mothers. Of course the society suffers for it! We're actually seeing/feeling such effects right now only if you have the discerning eye.

Again you know this is not true. Stop deceiving yourselves. The effects of your feminist views have caused enough havoc already. All you just want to prove: "What a man can do?" huh Is that it? Is that all?

I have tackled the rest of your quotes earlier. You are just grabbing on straws!

*Kandi love? Can I have a cup of coffee, please?* grin
I thought I told you I'm not a feminist.

Anyway, I ask you, my friend what is the man's job in all of this? It's no competition because it's seems like to you the woman is a slave that should be doing everything, including the upbringing of the children. Where are you when the women bring up these children? You will be the same one chastising single parents but when it comes to you bringing up your child. You are nowhere to be seen, probably in the beer parlour when you should be at home bringing up your children together.

Just because a few 10% of women where kings/queens etc doesn't mean all women are enjoying life or yearned for other things without having men control what and who they be. It would be the same as the 10% of the world who are rich/getting rich whilst the rest just gets poorer and poorer.

How can I be teaching hate to the daughters? Wait sef, oo. Where are you in all of this? Where are you when I'm teaching hate, should you not be there to teach your daughter love. No oo, probably in the beer parlour again looking at another woman's nyash.

You keep on talking about mother, mother, mother. Where is the damn father? Why isn't he involve in bringing up his child?

See, if the child turns bad they blame the woman for it, where was the father, jor?!

Yes, I want to know where the father was when the woman was raising her family. None once did anyone mention the duties of the father. Because everything has to be done by the woman. She's the slave of the world and when things go wrong she's the one to blame. Nawa! Woman, you don suffer.

I blame those useless women who don't know their self worth that's why. In this day and age, I see a perfect home with 2 lesbians than the so-called 'gender role' homes.

Make you coffee? Abi den chop you hands?

You will know men don't value marriage when the faith of it lies with whether the woman can cook or can't cook.

when in fear we at times imagine the situation to be much worse than it is.
as kandiikane said, if your whole life you find yourself blaming the unknown for what you cannot explain, of course you will assume the worse.

But does that make it true? No.

good points....

i am not trying to knock their beliefs in terms of FAITH but I HAVE NEVER HEARD of anyone going through SLEEP PARALYSIS (including myself as someone who has had the experience many times) being able to TALK or yell aloud. Your entire body is relaxed. You cannot move but you are aware of your surroundings. I have made grunts and at times COULDN'T EVEN DO THAT!

How is it possible for you to be paralyzed and frozen but can recite biblical verses and yell names aloud? grin Come on this is not the exorcism nor a motion picture. It's reality.

LOL...I don't buy it!! Not one bit. I am no atheist but being a believer in God doesn't mean one has to fall for fo0lishness. Spiritual disconnection from body..ok that's cool but demons? grin grin grin
I'm not a christian but when this thing comes I will call all names to get out of this. Health › Re: Sleeping Paralysis: Share Your Experience by kandiikane(m): 1:08pm On Sep 11, 2012
Billyonaire: What the medics call Sleep Paralysis is beyond science and religion, it can better be explained in mystical terms. It is a condition where your physical body goes out of alignment with the human soul. Consciousness lies with the soul, and it becomes aware of the immediate environments, both physical and astral. It is the first step to what is termed Astral Projection only for those who know how to travel within that body which is not physical. The creatures you see are actually either your mind (hallucinations) or astral beings, you can hear sounds of dead loved ones or even people speaking from a distance, cos with the soul there is no physical barrier. I also experienced it and was scared before I understood what it is, right now, I wait for it to occur cos I know how to make greater use of that natural state, or I make it happen when I wanna travel the world within. Astral Projection, Out of Body Experience and Soul Travel are naturally possible if you harness the natural potentials. And it is exactly where our scientist go for that inner knowledge of truth which assists in discoveries. I have been taught many things while in that state. And I truthfully know who I am today, is based on being able to explore the worlds within the universe as light at the speed of light. We are energy beings.
My grandmother once gave me an explanation similar to this. She said when you sleep, your soul moves about. Goes places. That's why you dream of so many things, places, people and the reason why you suffer the paralysis is because your body awakes whilst your soul is still travelling.

She said souls get lost out there and can't find there way back to the body sometimes that's why people die in their sleep.
Health › Re: Sleeping Paralysis: Share Your Experience by kandiikane(m): 5:35am On Sep 11, 2012
2buff: There are many explanations to it.
Those who are attacked, don't need some scientist to tell them that "it's all in their head" or some sciency way of saying "we don't know what the heck you're talking about so here sit down and take some random pills". Not all instances are demonic, and not all instances are "normal".

You have to understand, this is a state where you are essentially sharing consciousness with 2 different realms simultaneously, so it makes sense that that is the time to to see some interesting things.

The last one I had was one where I was sleeping on my belly (sleep deprived morning). It happened.
I was like "oh no, not this.well guess I gotta wait it out". I heard familiar music playing from one of my devices on my bed.
that was okay...but then I was hearing some things laughing in small voices at a distant corner of the room away from my line of sight.
Seemed like they were trying to mock me. My spirit wasn't having none of that.
it jerked up and looked at them and told them to "shut up!". They did. spirit then entered body again, and I was back in control of my physical body.

Ofcourse, there was no music playing from that device when I came to.
Lmaoooo@ small voices laughing in the corner.

Ok, I think it's time for me to go bed.

*runs off to go sleep next to my mum*

Lol!

I read about the sleep paralysis ages ago. Obviously you know there is a scientific explanation for it but if you're brought up with superstitions and people telling you it's demons. It's something you just say because it's the most likely explanation when you see a sex demon having sex with you whilst in that state.

There is a simple explanation(I think) for why I usually see such in that state but I go with demon because that's what I see.

seunajia: Scratch 9-2. I meant an early time. Ko to pa mi tongue
Of course it is. But because society encourages women to take less time demanding jobs, she spends more time with the children. More so, her nature/physiology is perfect for the task. If you look back well I'm sure you'll recall you spent more time with mum than dad and she practically brought you up single handedly. That's the strength of a woman. Dad should only come in once a while.

Kandi grin
Who are you, jor. You seem to know me more than I first thought.

Abegi, it's the same uselessness I was talking about. A man leaving his responsibilities because he feels like the woman should be the one doing everything, including bringing up the children.

It takes two to tango, my friend.

seunajia: I'm LMAOing here grin

Kandi and Toyin grin

Ladies, we can argue this till end time.
I didn't say exclusively that wives not cooking for their spouses makes their children derelicts. Instead I said abandoning gender roles (both male and female roles) entirely does.
I say that is bullshyt! 'Gender roles' is nothing but a societal construction in which to oppress women. Two gay men or women can bring up great children if not better than someone from the so-called 'gender role' family.

What are you driving at. That is an obvious aberration Kandi.
You are dictating and trying to tell me what women should be and shouldn't be. Who are you? Oh, yes! A man. That's how gender roles were constructed in the first place. Men!

Roles don't need to be forced. They are like norms, you're immediately seen as an outcast if you go against them and appropriate sanctions applied.
Goodluck with being in the kitchen when you want though smiley But a responsible woman understands her role and knows that taking care of her spouse's well-being including feeding him is primary and is not a duty to be exclusively left to maids. You're his wife and mother, behave as such.
See, what I mean? You are dictating to me again what I should be doing. My role is to take care of my spouse? Is that what I was born to do? To look after a man? Erm, what about his role? Explain to me, if my role is to take care of him what is his role?
Norms, well you are seeing aren't you? The so-called 'norms' of what a women should be are being broken because women feel and know who and what they are as individuals not classed in roles.

It's foreign to an extent even in the west. It gained prominence in America in the 60s. Women had led happy lives and had been successful before this time. Taking up roles just to prove: "what a woman can do..." is BS. It's not a competition dammit!
Now, this is what you call bullshyt to the highest level. You think if women were absolutely happy with how they were, we would have the suffragettes or the feminist movement? So, women were happy being told what they could be, where they could work, told all they are best at is sitting at home giving birth every year, no contraception, no voting, being seen as evil for mastur..bating or having an orgaasms, etc?

Are you serious?

The problem stems from here, women abandoning their roles (which cannot be over emphasised) for careers leave gaps in the home! It's ☺ķªª¥ for women to work, no doubt, but when they have to juggle or abandon entirely their roles in the home, then you'll have problems.
Pros; increased income, short-lived sense of pseudo-liberation (you were never a slave now huh)
Cons; decreased family time, exposure to undue stress, aggressiveness, less empathetic/sympathetic women, s.exual promiscuity and ultimately comprise of family values.
I'm sorry but which case study did you do to come up with all of this?
Again you list all of this where is the husband? Where is the man? Sleeping? huh

Come off this, majority of women who may be working more than normal are those without the man there helping or those breaking their necks to make sure their children have the best in life. Many of these parents will be single parents. Husbands or partners ran away because they do not want to step up to the plate and do anything because to them, the women should be doing everything.

Why would you wanna take up so much? Money? Do you prefer money to your family's well-being? Would you rather be rich than have responsible children? Absentee parents don't raise responsible children!
What in God's name are you on about? Again, which case study did you do which shows that a mother who works completely abandons her children? Again, I ask where is the father in all of this? What is he doing?

The lack of culinary skills is usually a pointer to major flaws in upbringing. If a woman/man doesn't know how to cook, an example is the OP's gf, then you should ask what she/he did with her/his youth.
Right, so who are we talking about here man or woman? He/she? huh

I guess to you a woman should be spending her youth in the kitchen right?

grin shocked
This is just an avenue for "mama put", house-maids and other women to destroy your relationship. Take your spouses for granted and other people would declare them wanted! It's your choice wink
Again with these cliques and stereotypes! How many househelps have you seen or met who have taken the husbands away from the wives? huh

Touche! There is no big deal in your spouse helping himself in your absence. Good parents bring-up their children to be responsible people who are not self-centred and egocentric. Good parents teach both of the sexes household chores. I cook well today kudos to this kind of upbringing --home training.
What about in my presence. He can't cook in my presence? Why?

I'm tired of repeating myself. Your mum was able to bring you and your siblings up because she was trained to do so. If she was trained to "take care of herself" we probably won't be having this discussion!
If a mum can train her children to be in-turn good mums and dads, she has achieved the ultimate-- "Surviving in life"
Don't twist things. There is a difference. The women who are taught how to cook for husbands they are yet to see are the ones who tend to have limited capabilities. They are the ones who see everything in black and white. They do not not see what they can achieve as individuals instead they see themselves as women with 'gender roles'. They are the sames ones who will come to nairaland crying that they are yet to have husbands because their mother told them they will have one by so, so and so time even learning to cook for him. When I made that comment about learning for yourself first, it's more about the mentality instilled in a child rather than the cooking.

These women are brought up with words like "as a woman, you should do this for the man, you should act like this for the man because he's a man." This is how they allow men to useless them anyhow and treat them anyhow because of the mentality they were brought up with. The same gender roles which allow the man to marry more than 2 wives because with gender roles, a man is superior and the woman is inferior.

There is no big deal:
1. When your spouse helps with household chores. Some roles should be subject to negotiation between individuals.
2. When he cooks for himself in your absence.
3. When he cooks because you're tired or indisposed.
Again, I ask what is wrong with the man cooking in my presence?
There should be no 'when' in household chores. Unless, there is a maid to do them for both to lay like kings without doing anything then the household chores should be done by both. Helping eachother. Each doing something to help keep the house intact, not having the husband or partner sleeping his lazy azz off whilst the woman slaves when it could be made quicker if both of them join forces to maintain the household both can rest.

A case where the woman has a 9-2, instead of the more rigorous 9-5 or higher is ideal. She'll have enough time to see, guide, correct and bring-up her kids properly. But in a case when dad and mum both leave at 6am and return 11pm/12 and their wards are left in the care of house-maids or neighbours. Kandi? grin
I rest my case![/quote]In which reality do we have both partners working 18 or so hours a day? Come on, na! Unless both are doing the exact same job then it's rare.
Even if that's the case, forget the kids in this matter because it's unlikely. which of them will even have the time to even eat at that time of the day after a longazz day at work? All they'll be thinking about is their bed.

Realistically, either the both come home around the same time or one comes earlier and this could be either the man or woman. Now, if he's hungry are you going to tell him to wait for the woman to come play her so-called gender role?

Plus, are you going to expect her to cook a meal everyday after work? If so? What's the point of the fridge?

Wait ooo! Before we go on to anyother thing:

I just noticed you saying 9 to 2 is ideal for a woman? Can you seriously see your mentally here? What about you as a father? Is it not your sp£rm which fathered the children? Why is it only the woman's responsibility to bring up the children correctly?

I will be back to break down that your long azz post.
Health › Re: Sleeping Paralysis: Share Your Experience by kandiikane(m): 3:10am On Sep 11, 2012
Mehn, my own isn't funny at all.

It's crazy, they say it's paralysis but the things I see ehn. Maaaad!

Ok, where do I start.

There was this dream I was in and I was been chased by a creature. In the dream, I knew I was dreaming so decided to look for a way(to wake up). I tried my best to wake up telling myself it was just a dream and when I woke up I couldn't move, I was just lying there in a dreamlike state but wide awake.

Another one, I was in my room asleep but awake(it felt like I was awake but also asleep). Crazy! I had this thing(creature) pressing down on me. I could see it but it felt like I was still dreaming(couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't). I was paralysed, couldn't get the creature off me. I struggled to move and I dragged myself(it was so haaard) out of the bed and on to the floor. I couldn't tell whether I was dreaming or in reality. I was screaming but the sound wasn't coming out. I was in bed awake but I was still in my subconscious world(that's where I dragged myself from the bed but my actual body was still on the bed paralysed).

Another one, I had my cat sleeping at the bottom of my bed and I also fell asleep. I woke up paralysed but still 'dreaming' huh

I saw the cat stretching in front of me, turning into a lesbian woman. It looks like a cat but still a woman but I was 'awake'

I tend to get these paralysis when I succumb to the lustings of those demons(I've been told it's sex demons) you dream about who come to sleep with you in your dream.

I hate those 'dreams' sha. I'm wide awake paralysed but still 'seeing things'. I tend to see myself getting out of bed(literally crawling because it's so hard to move a paralysed body) to get away from the thing but actual body is in bed.

It's crazy. It's like your dreams and reality merges together.

Oh, I tend to have them when I sleep in the afternoon but mainly when I get the succubus dreams.
