Given the time the christians developed their idea of God, they didn't know much then. They were steep into ignorance. Today's knowledge nullifies such a god

frosbel: whatever rocks your boat is fine with us, you can bow before a stone or choose not to, you can believe in the foolishness of atheism, again this is your prerogative, whatever you feel is good , just do it.

One life is all you have , get the most out of it , we are all marching to the same place of silence where our boastings, noise, nonsense talk will be silenced forever until that great day of judgement. We might not be here tomorrow, who knows.

It is your choice to de-contextualise scripture to your own liking, fine with us.

We Christians are also on a journey , therefore while we have life, the name of JESUS will continue to be proclaimed to anyone who wants to listen until the end comes.

Get over it !!
We are still victims of hedonistic cravings. You want to buy your ticket to heaven by servitude on earth and that's the diff btw us.

But the Quran is largely subject to interpretation, also its rules of interpretation are not in the Quran, therefore the paramount authority is the reader.

With that in mind, its not difficult to be very flexible in interpretation, pardon the ancient language and its difficulty in expressing modern terms and display a glowing picture of extensive knowledge.

The embryology details in the Quran don't exactly match what we know of embryology nor its delicate details which are mindblowing.

1. As long you can rejuvenate a heart or a kidney to work and repair fast dying cells. But this a distraction.

2. You didn't address my point, physical laws make things determinate, like boiling water. I didn't talk abt chance at all. Also by stating design is a mark of intelligence, then mountain formation is definitely by an intelligent designer

3. What suggests a spiritual/supernatural source.

Its a miracle if a miracle means impossible.

That's why its a discussion. At the very least God exists as a fantasy, yet we'd have something to discuss. Atheists do get involved in talks about eternity, spirituality, divinity, the problem of evil. Etc.

Let's not insult ourselves, at least that's too cheap.

On the Quran and the Big Ban.g theory, most muslims don't agree with the big ban.g because it is not clearly explained in the Quran, neither is it a supernatural creation of the universe

No one apart from Deepsight and uj has addressed my OP, what is our purpose to God and how does that affect his essence.

If God is indescrible or unknown, is that this question is irrelevant or eternally unknown?

lekibraky: God used Muhammad PBUH as a sign to reveal the Quran. It was recited to him through the angel since its a first hand knowledge coming from God he never forgot anything. When God said read Muhammad said I cannot read God said read in the name of your God
As I said earlier, you were not a witness and you don't know nor vouch about what took place. Its hearsay, hence unreliable. If God sent you a revelation, better. But he didn't, so you can't speak for the Prophet.
Irrespective of the religion u practice pla try read the quran English version you will know its from God when you see where God was asking the prophet if he was present at the past events he taught him in the Quran.
He never knew who Jesus, Moses, Jacobs teal were until he was made a prophet at age forty and untill the Quran was recited to him
Of course reading the Quran isn't harmful. I do whenever I get the opportunity
Christianity Etc › Our Ultimate Purpose And God's Nature. by Kay17(op): 9:43am On Oct 28, 2012
Whenever I think about the personality of the Judeo Christian God, I feel the awe of his impressive and superpowerful being. An omniscient, omnipotent, all great, self sufficient, selfexistent, perfect being. And he is accepted by most as the best explanation for the world.

But I'm struck by his person, he is too perfect and too satisfied and too independent to create us, our creation would not add any more of his essence, it wouldn't make him any happier or any more perfect. Rather we'd be purposeless toys with zero value.

We'd be a waste of love, care, concern. We'd be insufficient. He wouldn't have created us at all.
Islam › Re: Scientist Analysis Of The Quran by Kay17: 9:30am On Oct 28, 2012
@OP

You were not a witness when the Quran was revealed to the Prophet, neither were there any witnesses. So you don't know if they are from God for sure.

Can an unlettered man write, no its not possible. Therefore, if you claim Mohammed was unlettered, how then could he produce or read a book of such literary value?!

You said it yourself, the Quran is a not a scientific book, and neither should be given any attention as far as scientific truths are concerned.

The Greeks and Chinese accummulated lots of precious sophisticated knowledge, I would be tempted to say its from God.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christ The Creationist by Kay17: 9:13am On Oct 28, 2012
The difference btw a dead baby and a living one is the continous functioning of its organs.

The problem with the design and your God is: you are unable to explain how design is neccessary to an omnipotent being creating the world from a void. Why does water boil at 100 degrees, why not 2 degrees? Why is there gravity on earth? Why isn't man totally resistance to radiation and intense heat? Why is there cold?

Until you can adequately explain how design is compatible with God, there is nothing to say. Because a being who can will anything to exist, doesn't need a design.

Also by admitting an intelligent designer, you also admit pre existing physical principles/laws which the designer contemplates before designing and creating his creation.

But whenever I watch plants as they grow and died and continue such a cycle, I'm fascinated. I experience this principle in ourselves, in life in general; in the water cycle. This must be an immutable principle which the Universe works with. Its beyond a mind, beyond space, beyond time.

chukwudi44: The main question here is @ what point does a human being becomes entitled to his/her fundamental human rights.Does a foetus in the mother's womb have the right to life or should simply depends on the mothers wishes?

If a child should be killed simply because it is undesirable I wonder the hypocrisy of prosecuting teenage mothers who smothered their kids like the one I read recently happened in the US.why was the mother arrested and charged for murder? Or is it simply because the baby has already been born?

If you can't kill a new born 'unwanted baby' I wonder what moral justication will you ave to kill the same baby in the womb
My reasoning is this: the foetus is entitled to a right to life, if its a person recognizable under the law. Being human isn't enough, it must be able to hold and assert at least the minimum legal powers, in order words capable. For personhood to accrue on the foetus, it has to have attributes of personality especially consciousness or in a state seperable from a vegetative one.

On the other hand, the mother has as much right to life and privacy which would include reproductive rights. She is entitled to decisions that govern her reproductive capacity and shouldn't suffer compulsory pregnancy. Whenever her life is endangered,or her source of livelihood is at stake, she is entitled to abort.

Also note that, insisting a foetus is a person and thus entitled to fundamental rights, in no way is inferior to the mother and therefore where a mother's life is in danger, her right to life doesn't supercede the foetus'.

Also Nigerian Law, doesn't regard an abortion as murder
Christianity Etc › Re: Where does Satan currently live? by Kay17: 5:29am On Oct 23, 2012
Or probably Satan referred here is an angel of mischief like the angel of death is. A angel/servant of God doing God's wishes. The Old testament doesn't paint much of the Devil picture we have now.

God did both good and evil all by himself.

Christianity Etc › Re: Christ The Creationist by Kay17: 1:10pm On Oct 22, 2012
Ola, what do you mean by design? My definition of design is a conformity with physical laws, therefore physical laws themselves can't be designed or constructed. And all functioning entities developed by Nature or man necessarily conform to physical laws.

If we go by your suggestion that all life comes from life, then the origin of life isn't a valid question. And that no theory can exist to explain it.

What we understand by life changes everyday, viruses and priones defy our common definitions for life.
Christianity Etc › Re: Christ The Creationist by Kay17: 12:13am On Oct 22, 2012
OLAADEGBU: Let me introduce you to real scientists whose scientific laws stands the test of time.

Louis Pasteur, who formulated the law of biogenesis which has not and cannot be refuted: He says:

"The more I study nature, the more I stand amazed at the work of the Creator"

These bonafide scientists could observe that both nature and living organisms exhibit design and any rational scientist will conclude that there must be a designer and this designer is God.

Isaac Newton who is also a father in the field of scientific discoveries said:

"The most beautiful system of the sun, planets and comets could only proceed from the counsel and dominion of an intelligent and powerful Being"
When did personal religious beliefs of scientists become scientific authority? Theories are what matter.

Intelligent design is a fraction of all we witness and its very difficult for you to prove design is necessary.
You missed out "everything." Everything with a beginning is something and something requires a cause. The Cosmos has a beginning and therefore requires a cause. That cause is God and God is no thing. He is the infinite uncreated Creator. cool
The present Universe is what has a cause. A singularity from which spacetime arises is uncaused so far.

^^

First of all, we know man made objects by our experience. And that all complex objects aren't man made. That's why its easy for me to know a house, car, plane, rocket is made by man. However other complexities like snowflakes, water cycle, mountains, rivers are formed by Nature's workings by our experience. And man made, intelligently designed objects are a tiny bit fraction of complexity we know.

Second, how do you answer the question, why there is something rather than nothing?

You were talking about the constancy of information.

How do you determine the personality of God without the Bible.

In your explanation for the diversity of species, you said information was always constant. That would contradict the fact the TAB is different from BAT.

frosbel: Anyone who says there is no GOD despite the evidence is a big FOOL !!!

Let's not mince words here .
First of all, christianity doesn't rely on any evidence. Its by faith one becomes a christian.

Two, its impossible to prove the Bible is the word of God.
Image123: evil fools, that's a new one. anyway, faith and reason go hand in hand. They are not mutually exclusive, it again shows that you lack proper understanding of what you fight. you're just jumping up and down like some cricket. Again, may i ask you, what is the reason or purpose for good or evil? why do you want so hard to be good? what is the purpose of life?
As illogic said, its eternally unknown. I say its subjective. For me, defining a purpose of life for man limits man to a merchandise and dehumanizes him.

Faith is trust in God.

The decline of rap as a genre, a legitimate and creative channel of expression; and the dulling repetition of boring subjects by most rappers, leaves the question, Is there any hope for Rap??

And my answer is YES, I recently discovered stimulating and surprisingly complex, intelligent lyricists/poets. Talents, I had never imagined for rap. I have only being able to come up with 5 rappers. Here they are:

1. Illogic

2. Saul Williams

3. Immortal Technique

4. Aesop Rock

5. Lupe Fiasco

Pls do comply yours.
