Christianity Etc › The Possibility Of Natural Intelligence. by Kay17(op): 8:38pm On Nov 05, 2013
I got this off the frontpage, and it draws an interesting conclusion.

1-Google developed a neural computer network that learned what a CAT was without human interaction!
This fact may leave you scratching your head wondering what the heck that means, and while the technology is extremely advanced, the concept is actually quite simple. Besides reinventing the world as we know it with new gadgets such as the Google Glasses and the Google Car, they have now created one of Earth’s largest self-learning “unsupervised” neural networks, which roughly translates to a robot brain.
The computer is so sophisticated it is able to perform tasks considered impossible using traditional algorithms, such as finding cute cats on the Internet. To test the network, a team fed the machine 10 million thumbnails of random YouTube videos. Without telling the software what to look for, by itself the program sorted the data in a hierarchical fashion, forming groups of similar videos.
After “watching” the YouTube videos, scientists asked the program what a cat looked like, and amazingly it created its own image, shown on the side, from prior data that looks almost exactly like a cat! In other words, this proved that the software is able to think for itself and recall images just like a human brain!

Bidam: I said a line of thought crossed my mind when you talked about groping in the dark,is that an incomprehensible English huh and will it make any difference, what if your opinions doesn't count?

It is like saying what if the sky is blue, i disagree that i can watch arsenal live in Nigeria. Does it make any difference?.So much intelligence from an atheist.SMH!
Whatever thought you express here, has to be releveant to the thread, you are not expected to drop any and everything that goes on in your head here! If everyone does, Nairaland would not have a purpose.

You definitely did not display your intelligence for all to see.
Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened? A Big Bang? ;D by Kay17: 9:38pm On Nov 04, 2013
Bidam: A line of thought just crossed my mind.Man has always from time immemorial been probing in the dark without finding solutions to the problems he created for himself.
Some of these problems are terrorist attacks, war, crime, hunger,AIDS,Flu epidemic and economic instability to mention a few.
Individuals, nations, and even corporations are trying to tackle some of these problems, but it is often difficult to make substantive changes.

The united nations is limited in its authority and power to carry out its resolutions and programs, and it is currently under scrutiny for a lack of effectiveness.

Deep down in the hearts of men, when problem like these arises, they want to know who is IN CHARGE..They want to find out who has the ability to solve the problems, bring stability, and maintain a peaceful and prosperous life. Definitely not the big bang theory.

Man is so fearful and uncertain about what tommorrow holds,no wonder he creates cartoon superheroes like superman, batman, wonderwoman, fantastic four,x-men,etc... To fufill a deep psychological fantasy that he can be IN CHARGE of his circumstances and situations.

But even funny as it is..he is not.It is interesting to note that the superhero cartoons he created always have their origins in another world or distant planet and not planet earth.

It all boils down to one fact: Man is groping in the dark for a God to take care of his problems.
What does this have to do with Big Ban.g and the certainty of Faith?

What if I outrightly disagree with you, what makes all what you said true?!
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 7:38pm On Nov 04, 2013
Olaadegbu, you didn't address my concern for suffering.

What do you have to say about Job's sufferings?
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 10:20am On Nov 04, 2013
You didn't discuss Job at all and the examples I raised, including that of rape.

If a baby is deformed and dies painful as a result of the deformity caused by its mother's addictions, there is no sin of the Baby to justify its suffering, so he suffered for no reason other than God chose it suffer.

So it throws out your argument that the sins of others on us is justified since others suffer from our sins.
Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened? A Big Bang? ;D by Kay17: 10:01am On Nov 04, 2013
Ok what does sin have to do with our knowledge.
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 9:49am On Nov 04, 2013
^^

You could visit every orphanage, hospital, poverty ridden cities, and tell the sufferers that their sufferings are well deserved, that they are not suffering from injustice. Tell raped women, that they are not unjustly raped, that they deserved it and shouldn't bother going to man made courts to find FALSE justice.

I purposely tried to ignite indignation, because indignation only righteously arises from injustice.
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 9:42am On Nov 04, 2013
Why is Job's case different?!

Didn't he suffer from the theft, misfortune, diseases, sinful wife, sinful friends? Why didn't you simply say adam's sins made job suffer, just as an innocent foetus.

An innocent child suffers from the hand of the mother doesn't deserve it because he suffers from forces beyond his control.

You don't seem to appreciate the wide ranging effects of suffering, I believe Suffering is a more fundamental issue than sin, because undeservedly suffering from sin is suffering too.
Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened? A Big Bang? ;D by Kay17: 9:33am On Nov 04, 2013
Sin has nothing to do in this thread, we were discussing the nature of knowledge, and you seem to believe the big ban.g theory is entirely false
Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened? A Big Bang? ;D by Kay17: 8:57am On Nov 04, 2013
Joshthefirst: no ma'am.
The disease is sin. Man in this day and age chooses to ignore this disease that has sunk into his very nature. He chooses to ignore this disease that has ravaged the world with suffering and grief. He refuses to acknowledge or even treat this basic problem in this so called modern age, and he prefers to waste much of his resources tackling the symptoms. He calls those who recognize this problem and look for a solution foolish and unenlightened.

I do not debunk curiosity, but let man be curious about the right things.
What has sin and knowledge/Big Ban.g got to do with sins?! You seem to derail your own thread.
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 8:52am On Nov 04, 2013
Joshthefirst: no ma'am, this is Gods curse:

He cursed the serpent and proclaimed mans salvation.

He cursed womankind to have sorrow in childbirth.

He cursed the ground because of man, and made him reap in sorrow and die.

These curses God put because of mans sin, but man didn't look for Gods ways of salvation.
Man instead became exceedingly sinful and commited murder, lacked love and became greedy and covetuous and started wars. All we see is because of sin, not God. Gods duty is to punish sin, this he will do. And cause repentance and salvation, and a change in mans nature. This he has done.

That one year old did not suffer because of God's curse, its because of mans sin
Assuming you answered Job of the Bible in this same way, "why am I suffering", do you think Job would be satisfied that he is condemned for Adam's sins or the sins of others?! Rather he would further ask "why the injustice of suffering for the sins of others" which is a form of Suffering!
Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened? A Big Bang? ;D by Kay17: 7:07am On Nov 04, 2013
Joshthefirst: does man seek knowledge in the wrong place? Does He not misunderstand his problem?

Is the problem not basic? Man tries to deny and ignore and justify this problem, this disease that intertwines itself in his life.
How would he know that, if he is probing about in the dark.

Wouldn't more questions promise more answers?

What disease? Curiousity?!
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 6:59am On Nov 04, 2013
Joshthefirst: this is a very good question ma'am.

We were not at the garden of eden, we did not commit the original sin, so why do we suffer for it?
God will not hold a man in judgement and punish him for adams sin. He will punish him for his sins.
Of course, adams sin still affects us today. Peoples sins affect others. The reckless driver's sin causes others to die in a crash. I mean, we inherited the sin nature. We are by nature sinners, in a sinful world. Some people use this oppourtunity to be bitter against God or criticize adam, but what about our sin? What has this knowledge of the terrible thing sin can do to a man done to us? Has it made us to look for a salvation from it(Jesus Christ)? Or have we kept commiting sin that affects others also more than we can imagine. We were made imperfect, God made us perfect in Christ Jesus. The curse God placed on the earth was a result of sin. He drove adam out of his prescence because of sin, he pronounced death because of sin. How could man be trapped in this fallen nature forever?

Ma'am. The consequences of adams sin(which is simple reality, not complex stuff, sin is the simple problem that causes man suffering every day) should not make you bitter against God, but should make you appreciate and embrace Gods way of making us perfect again through Christ Jesus.
Put yourself in the shoes of a one year old in war ravaged area, she is starved, deprived of parental care and love, and close to death. Now you have provided your answer for the cause of suffering, saying it is a curse from God against Adam and his offsprings, and that God also made subsequent Adams imperfect.

The child's condition is solely as a result of God's curse, she suffers physical pain as well as injustice, which she does not deserve. She is at the mercy of wicked warmonging dictators and mass killers.

So I will recouch my question, why is there injustice?
Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened? A Big Bang? ;D by Kay17: 6:40am On Nov 04, 2013
Joshthefirst: question, questions, questions. I paticularly love the bolded statement.

The psychological demand for certainty.

Could it be that man has been shooting himself in the foot? Could it be that he's been asking the wrong questions in trying to decipher reality all this while? Could he have been looking from the wrong perspective? Could he be making the wrong conclusions time and again?

Is he in a never ending cycle to find the certainty of objective truth?

Are you focusing on the correct thing ma'am? Are you asking the wrong questions and blowing up basic conceptualism?

Could man have gotten the wrong idea? Could he be wanting "complex answers" as he sees the universe's complexity? Is the answer to the many questions quite simple?

What are you looking for?
What is man looking for?
Has man been distracted from basic reality because of his longing to understand infinite complexity?
By travelling to the stars man seeks knowledge!

Can a question pertaining to knowledge be wrong? No
Christianity Etc › Re: What Happened? A Big Bang? ;D by Kay17: 9:19pm On Nov 03, 2013
The Big Bang Theory is the forefront of human knowledge, it burst a bubble of questions, we only have more questions and questions. We ask questions even of ordinary meanings and try to redefine them. Such as time, space, beginning, nothing

We are faced with a proposition of vertical time, which blow our minds as to its conception. We ask questions about time travel, distances, even the human psyche, our observation bias, causality.

And above all the psychological demand for certainty.
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 8:53pm On Nov 03, 2013
OLAADEGBU: We have Mr. Adam to thank for that. wink
Yet to suffer for someone's else sins is injustice, hence injustice comes prior to committing sin. And injustice is a form of suffering, so my question still stands. Why the suffering and injustice in the world, why do we suffer for Adam's sins?!

Christianity Etc › Re: The Tree Of The Knowledge Of Good And Evil by Kay17: 5:55pm On Nov 03, 2013
Very interesting topic.
The OP must have been tempted to add extraneous materials and implications from his general understanding of his religion. For example, he believes the snake has to be the devil, given that the devil is the opposition to the Christian.

But I want to keep my interpretations pure, without any additions. I will read only within the relevant passage and nothing more.

The opening verse goes: the snake is the cleverest animal in the Garden. This introduction describes an animal, the snake. A peculiar characteristic of the snake is its intellect. It speaks to Eve. The snake is held responsible for its actions, as God cursed it.

The snake being clever/smart (deceptive does not necessarily follow these words in my opinion) informs/educates Eve. That the fruits of the forbidden tree (under the express command of God) does not cause death, rather gives enlightenment and wisdom which is the attribute of God. Enlightenment and Knowledge transforms one to a God!

Thereafter God confirmed it with his Host. The snake did not lie, rather said the truth. The woman saw the fruit, noticed it was pleasant and good, she desired to be wise!

God is angered by their newfound knowledge, especially awareness of their unclothedness.

In verse 22, God says man has become one of us, and upon eating from the tree of Life, he shall live forever! However God does not permit them to eat of the tree of Life. I believe ordinarily that is in bad faith. That ought to be a gift from God to us.

However the curses God rained on Adam and Eve are the cause of suffering in the world today.

Christianity Etc › Re: Do Atheists Believe In Nothing? by Kay17: 10:17am On Nov 03, 2013
^^

You are encountering language issues. What does belief mean?

Straight from wikipedia: a psychological state wherein an individual holds a premise to be true. The atheist suddenly seems to be a believer, by holding the premise God does not exist. So alos, a premise is not limited only to topics of God, rather vast unrelated topics.

My conclusion is your question is misconceived and has a misconceived effect.
Christianity Etc › Re: The Philosophy Of Truth Through Pictorial Arguments by Kay17: 9:04pm On Nov 02, 2013
@DS

As is frequently said the ever present eye of the camera which sees all and is not seen.

My thoughts are my projections, my property, my whole world I form within. My world wherein my existence, essence, my knowledge is expressed both inwardly and outwardly. This self created inner world is a stolen idea from the outer universe, is a necessity of our projected/percieved self.

In other words, an elaborate perception of one's self. For a blimd person - - blind from birth, his thoughts lack pictures, rather filled with sounds and sensations. Reason being that he is unable to steal from the outer universe, he is limited.

Just as our thoughts and ideas are limited by our ignorance. And this has more to say about ourselves more than the world out there.

debosky: SMH. . . .y'all should go argue with your mates instead of picking on Josh. He clearly doesn't know how your crew operates hence his stumbling into your traps. grin

Slavery was acceptable to God in the OT - there's little or no reason to consider otherwise. However, the question is whether this was a 'situational' acceptance (based on prevailing circumstances) or universal acceptance. That question has not been addressed here.

Slavery is bad in whatever guise, brutal or otherwise - subjugating another human being isn't acceptable even if you treat them 'nicely'.

What I'll say is this - for a time only Israelites could legitimately worship God, eventually all can if they accept Jesus. I believe a similar principle applies to slavery - for some time it was acceptable, but not eventually has become unacceptable since all can now worship Christ - therefore there is no more division between 'foreigners' and 'Jews' - all are acceptable to God.
We should be able to enslave atheists, since they willingly refuse to worship any deity; they don't constitute "the everybody that worships God now"

@josh Bondservants are uniquely of English Law. Bondservants is rigidly formed by a bond/deed with the peculiar characteristics. I strongly doubt if the ancient Israelites and their neighbours used deeds in the first place!
Christianity Etc › Re: How To Become An Atheist by Kay17: 11:30am On Nov 01, 2013
Joshthefirst: sin, not necessarily your sin, but sin all the same. God has promised a world without sin and death where righteousness and life and peace will prevail.
This does not answer the question because Injustice itself is an evil and suffering. We suffer from the sins of others, and we are not fairly dealt with, we don't get rightly compensated for the wrongs done against us, we don't get rewarded for the good we have done; hence our sins are different from Evil/Suffering.

Evil/suffering can not be a consequence of Sin.

Thank you for correcting me, so there exists no tradition among Jewish clergy on celibacy. In that case, there isn't a tradition for Jepthaph's daughter to follow, thereby being a celibate as dedication to God!
Family › Re: Should A Woman Sacrifice Her Dreams For Her Marriage? by Kay17: 7:47am On Nov 01, 2013
Lordlexyy: A million like. The whole issue seems to be a rat race just for material acquisition at the detriment of family value or stability all in the name to attain equality with the man. Women should identify what makes them happier. If career other than marriage that catches your fancy, then pls, do men a favour and stick to it. Every man values the stability of his famility above all things and as such, he prefers a woman that is prepared to make sacrifices to that effect. The primary responsibility of a woman is to ensure the excellency of her home, any other thing is secondary. Many men appreciate a career woman that can also support the family but not the one that gives no room to family development.
In the alternative, the modern world opens doors for women, confirms their equality and value to the society. The modern world sees a marriage as a healthy partnership with the participants having equal respect and rights for themselves with no room for abuse.

Isn't the proper step to take against curses, a reversal of such curse?! For a reversal step taken against a curse to be evil, then the curse must be good then!

Also everyone assumes the human sight/mind is perfect to capture the message from the pictures. Why shouldn't we believe our perception could be impaired, by bias for example.
