Nairaland / General / Hello Nairalanders I Need Help On How To Recover Money I Invested With A Person by kaykad: 11:37pm On Sep 10, 2021
Hi Guys,

I need help in recovering 1 million Naira excluding the ROI which is about 1.5 million total of 2.5 million Naira. Am willing to forgo the ROI and just get my 1 million naira back. The recovery process should be legit and should follow a due process.

How did I get into this:

Saw a watsup status of a friend stating he has a friend that does Forex trading and crypto, he is legit, trustworthy bla bla bla made enquires about it and the introduction was done. I invested 1 mill and the return each month will be 150k, Documents and agreement was signed the only mistake i made was not to get a guarantor from him all i did was just get a witness to sign. He was only able to remit just twice and since November last year 2020 he has gone incommunicado all effort to reach proves abortive.

I do have the initial document we signed and another promise note to refund my money. I have tried reaching out to the person that made the introduction, and he also stated that he had been looking for him too as he also introduced other people to him too.

I know he is somewhere out there and can be located, I need help on how to recover my money using due process and the law. Am willing to pay 10% after we have recovered the money.

lesson learnt:

never lend people money you cant let go
never invest in all this juicy return investment and with money you cant part with
only give out what you can afford to family and friends
investing the money yourself might have been a better option

no blame games please only solution

nice one give it to them, Yeye they small very insensitive people
PetroDolla2020:
You cannot have fun at the expense of what other people treasure. That is the insensitive attitude of most Nigerians. They badmouth, denigrate other people, their beliefs, norms and culture in the most insensitive, offensive manner. And yet these same hypocritical Nigerians will be up in arms when they see or hear other say the least offensive thing about them or their country.

Fufuo is a great delicacy in Ghana. I eat it and I love it. Yet look at all the stuuupid comments I’m reading from people most of whom don’t even know anything about the food. Common sense tells you to respect other people’s preferences. It’s not by force to comment about something you know nothing about, right?

Hi PotentialNurse and anyone in the house that can help answer my question, I finished secondary school in 2008 and am trying to apply for bsc in accounting am worried about the gap between as i have been working in accounting section for Lagos state education for over 10 year now, do you think the gap different btw when i finished and now applying will cause a problem?
PotentialNurse:

Scrap the conference ideas, there is a pandemic, most conferences has a virtual option. No VO will be convinced that you want spend lots of money to attend a conference abroad while you can attend it at home.

Secondly, applying for a visit visa with your previous student visa denials won’t even fly, it screams I want to japa by force.

Use your BSc, apply for a masters program. That’s the best route for you to take.

Hair cut nko? The least you'd get then was £10 (N3,000), hair wey I dey cut for N300 in Naija.

make i put small mouth, abeg if you get chance to go USA or any other developed country Japa ASAP. my 1 dollar
bloggerblogger2:
YOU MAY AGREE OR DISAGREE.

A 100K monthly salary earner in Nigeria is better than a 400K monthly salary earner in the United States.

The luxury lifestyles some of us live here with 100K, cannot sustain us a day over there. We can’t try such in US and save a dim.

Some of our annual rent here is weekly/ monthly rent over there. Can you pay over 100K naira monthly house rent with 400K monthly salary here in Nigeria? You can’t do that, but you don’t have a choice over there. You pay or kicked out of the house.

Some of our people over there are becoming wiser now. They don’t mind sleeping on the streets, work for at least 5-10yrs, move back to Nigeria with their savings. You cannot survive with 100M living comfortably a year over there. Tax go finish you up. But you can live large with 100M for 5yrs or more here in Nigeria depends on your lifestyles tho.

You don’t pay unnecessary tax here. But in foreign countries you pay almost everything.
In naija you can own 10 cars..not in the United States because you pay for packing space for each car. You get the point now?

Some of our people in diaspora, once they earn $10K in a month or so, depends on the job, they’d send $9K down to their Nigeria account and keep $1K for their upkeep. Some would buy lands and build houses for rent or some other businesses.
If you don’t do that, you’d work all your life and come back with nothing. Those of you on this method are wise. But becareful of the people you send your money to here. Trust no one! Get a trustworthy lawyer involved.

U can make unnecessary noise or play loud music here. You can’t try such over there and not find yourself in police cell.

So you see….We are privileged here. We only need to get bad political leaders off the way. By getting involved in politics, national, state, LGA and community affairs. That’s how American youth you admire, do.

They don’t just fold hands, wailing and waiting for a miracle. They debate, disagree, challenge, involved and create. You get the point now?

Sense no go kill u. Lol
nextstep:
He should go. I was assuming he already had the job. If that's the case then, after tax, he should have 70% left ($84k). If he is wise he should:

1. contribute fully to a retirement plan (e.g. 401k), up to the $19kmax pre-tax, and usually employer will add in up to 4%
2. save half remainder salary every year. $32k. This can buy/build property in Naija after his first year abroad, which he can rent out.
3. live frugally. Do not start living like other middle class Americans - that leads to perpetual wage slavery
4. buy a good used car, like a Camry, not more than $4k in cash. Let your friends laugh at you. You're buying US stocks and Nigeria real estate.
5. don't flex girl.
6. ideally, stay there for 4-5 years with an eye to settle back home. Your investments will be earning for you even if you have no job in Naija.
7. only when you're back in Nigeria should you start a family. Wife and kids in US will wipe out all your earnings.
8. I say don't flex girl. You're not there to fall in love and spend 20 years of your life living to feed others.

Dont mind the ignorant people like him.
If you work, live and earn $5K in the US, you will pay your Rent in Dollars (maybe like $1500), you will buy food and dress in the US in Dollars, you will pay insurance in Dollars, phone, internet, electricity in Dollars. At the end of the day, you will spend about $3,500 in a month of costs.

All those things, in Nigeria, do not cost more than #200K, so #450K will just do you good, with a lot of change left over
must you rent a 1500 dollars apartment. Rent a room with no shared amenities for 600 dollars or less and you will be fine. If you are married start small u till both of you have something to bring to the table. Use half of your paycheck to settle bills save the half. Dnt be like most american that depend on pay check to pay check.

A quick question I want to ask and know hearts of peeps.

I have a badass programmer pal. Full stack engineer. Recently did a job for someone, and made some real good cash. Like up to $120,000. The money came from building software for 3 microfinance banks in the country.
He earns over 450,000 Naira as salary here in Nigeria as well. We got talking yesterday and he's telling me he cannot stay in Nigeria, that he's resigning immediately after lock down for airports are over. I dnt just understand hw people will still be asking this kind of question in this age. Wr are no mire in the 70's and 80's anymore if you are single Oga find your way, if you are married Oga still find tour way. When you settle come back and pick your family. Even with 50k USD you will be fine if you do not spend anyhow. Be prudent and frugal with money you will be fine

His argument is 450,000 Nigerian Naira equals
1,162.97 United States Dollar, wheras in the US / Canada for instance, the salary is way higher.

Question is what do you think ?
Family / Re: Why Your Diasporan Friends And Family Do Not Send You Money When You Ask. by kaykad: 5:15am On Jun 05, 2020
omo them really get you no be small. change you phone contact, if you don't give them dey won't die, deactivate your social media account and go incommunicado. only sort out your parents and use the next 3 year to work on your self.
johhnnie:

I almost cried reading this. I made a fatal mistake of giving my contacts out in the first two years.

Please believe this, after about 3 years, I had a cause to send my bank statement to my account officer and she said I could get my statement my the bank app on my phone. I never realized this was possible.

So, out of curiosity, I decided to download my statement for the three years prior. What I found out brought tears to my eyes. I was weak. In three years at that time I discovered I had transferred at 27m ( twenty seven millions) in naira to my account in Naija over that period. And at least 96% of that money given out to friends and families.

No new investment whatsoever.

I also remembered that during thesame period, at the earlier stage, I needed money. So, a cousin helped me to sell my uncompleted (80% completed) student mini- hostel on a 4 plots of land unluckily at that time when $ was 500. Only a fraction of that money got to me here. A lot of hands dipped into the money that he became useless by the time it for here.

I work alot here. Sometimes, 3 straight days observing just an hour long rest from driving ( by the highway or anywhere the need need Forrest met me on the road). There was a time I slept in the car for a month. Before then, I dish washed for two days, did security for another month; having to stand up for 8 hours straight on etc.

Sometimes, going on for days without eating or bathing. All I would do was to enter a McDonald etc early morning to use my inner shirt to wipe my body. Smelling like rat. So haggardly looking and insane. Brushing by the side of the road.

It was really bad. Phone calls from my Naija kept coming with all sorts of demands; friends, families both know and unknown. Worst part, nobody contributed a dime for my travel. I had to sell my plot of land behind my personal house in ibadan to add up money.

It became crazy when I see people I send money to celebrating birthdays online with friends and family. Some take to club floors for celebrations. I also discovered that people I was sending money to in support of their businesses were building their houses without my knowledge. Here I am living in one room apartment. Sharing toilet, bathroom and tiny kitchen compared to what I had in my private residence in Naija.

I didn't know that all those 5k 100k 3k, 200k etc and even airtime top-ups from my boss revolution to Naija phone numbers were grossly adding up.

It's a lesson I learnt the hard way. You would think that the request would soon stop. It never will. There would always be requests. Some genuine and some made-up.

correct, better pikin. I don't know why people are still asking this kind of question self. except you earn 1 mill in a month Naija is a NO NO. with the 1 mill still try and relocate your family ASAP and you stay in naija with 1 leg in 1 leg out.

You can do both bro. Pursue another federal job bro, secure the job, at least collect two or three months salaries before u migrate bro. But before u migrate bro, do not resign from the job, I repeat do not resign, just drop them a letter that you dey go for medical treatment abroad by that way 3 or 4 more months salaries fit drop before their eyes go clear. Nigeria na scam, so if you fit scam Nigeria scam the useless country.
