I am looking at my MBNA card, and it is strictly MC. It does not have anything to do with the stare one is in. I have had many MC's in my life, none had a maestro logo. Dude it is not an American thing. MC,Visa,Discover,Amex are the big four. Then there are smaller cards! Ask someone else.

I hereby nominate an "aggresive natured" Donald Duke for presidency, which means that he needs to be more aggressive and stern in his policies and approaches but nevertheless he is a perfect candidate for presidency.

Donald Duke (born 30 September 1961 in Calabar) has been the Governor of Cross River State since 1999. He has been at the helms of affairs of the State since the commencment of the present democratic dispensation in Nigeria. He received LLB degrees from Ahmadu Bello University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Spearheading the incumbent debt of Nigeria, Duke pushed for democracy and against military control. He stated; "What got the military out of power was not democracy but the dreadful state of the economy. If we, the democratic government, cannot deliver food for the mass of people we can forget about democracy.(1)"

In six years of intensive reconstruction hinged on unflinching commitment, the governor has not only tidied up some of the projects he inherited from preceding governments, but has also delivered almost to the whole on his infrastructural, tourism, health, agricultural, environmental and social agenda. The result being a new emerging Cross River State, enviably repositioned among the must-visit states in Nigeria.

Delivering vision has always proved difficult in governance. With various governments either failing to embark on promised projects or being unable to successfully complete those already initiated. Thus leaving a back-log of uncompleted and abandoned projects. An untidy situation that eventually takes a toll on the fiscal policies and the smooth running of succeeding governments. Today in Cross River State, the present Donald Duke-led administration has redefined service delivery by effectively bridging the gap between visions, proposals, targets and realistic programme.

The State Capital, Calabar and the other urban centers of Ugep, lkom, 0goja and Obudu are being positively transformed from mere towns to true Urban centers with accompanying improvement in their aesthetic, environmental and social statuses (regular pipe borne water, good road networks, clean and green environments and effective health are delivery). The non-urban towns and communities have equally accessed the developmental impact of the government. Over 90% are electrified.

The education sector also got commendable attention. Model schools were re-established and renovated across the State; textbooks are being provided at subsidized rate for public schools, while various levies and fees are either waived or subsidized by government.
The major impact on this sector has been the renovation and upgrading of the Okuku Campus of the University of Calabar and the total tum-around of the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH).

Health wise, the life expectancy of the average Cross Riverian must be seen as improving. This is achieved by the presence of a healthier living environment on one hand and government's comprehensive health policy on the other. General Hospitals, health centers and other such. For example The fight against HIV AIDS in Cross River State is the most intensive in Nigeria.

The administration of justice in the State is worthy of note too. Renovation of courts and the welfare of judicial officers have been a prime issue in government priorities. The working conditions and the prompt remuneration of Civil Servants are equally commendable.

The achievements of Donald Duke's administration are endless. But the total restoration of the Obudu Ranch Resort and the complete installation of the able car have been heralded the world over as over achievement in the tourism sector, which has seen the repackaging of tourist sites in the State. Accordingly attracting an appreciable infuses of tourists.

On the heels of these tourist landmarks, the Governor is capping it up with the TINAPA project which has been disucssed in some threads in Nairaland. The project is gradually emerging a reality with the set delivery date of 2006 becoming more and more realistic. Having actualized this much of his vision for Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke must be commended.

A rarity in governance with all his diverse achievements, and the best candidate without any doubt for the presidency coming 2007.

You see, a service like interswitch needs to be very thorough, open and transparent to the people in order that trust is attained at the highest levels.

I am with you in relation, their cost breakdown, merchant and client policies, APIs are highly classified.

Not necessarily in respect to feeds. My opinion in regards is pretty simple, you would never find any country where ATM cards are used for shopping online. The issue here is, is it safe to use an ATM card that is directly attached to your bank account to shop online? Are there charge-back policies to safeguard customers ? What current protocols are used to ensure that your ATM card are not subjected to theft or even misuse?

Interswitch would not survive with a high usability status, why? Visa and Mastercard would testify that even with their CCVS (Credit Card Verification System), Phone number, Billing address, and expiry date, authentication protocols in place, it is still susceptible to massive identity theft and fraud purchases.

Now how would an ATM card with just a pin number as verification be safe from fraud or theft? Especially in a country like Nigeria? Considering that I wouldn't dare use my ATM card on an online Nigerian shop.

I heared that Interswitch has about 1.8 million card subscribers, but thats a small figure in comparison to a country with about 170 million or more population where about 60% have active bank accounts.

You need to get the service delivery right first, reduce the number of complaints, speed up the card issuing process and many more that I will not go into here.

Not necessarily. 2checkout for example and even paypal face a lot of complaints daily. There are even dedicated websites developed to criticise them. Lets be honest, even NETICASH is not up-to it, I just don't want to hit on it, its not a nice thing to do.

Service delivery, you don't really know, because you have not tried them , One thing I know is their support response time, sucks, it takes weeks.

I am a businessman, and 2-5 years is not a short duration for me to get the amount I invested back in hand. The primary idea of investment is profit. 1 year is quick, 6 month is, but not 2 years or 3 years or even 5 years.

But 10years or 20years considering the possible risk of fire, distruction of assett, damages etc is a very long time. Such a venture is not something I am interested in investing in.

One thing I would like to add, IF the investment is based from LOANED MONEY, and you can be able to service your loan for the duration and be able to pay back, minus earning a reasonable profit (income) monthly in 10 years. Then it is a very lucrative investment.

It is best in a Nigerian scenario.

Still the ROI takes too long, not really lucrative, from my own perspective and business sense. A reasonable ROI rate for a self financed investment should be about 2-5 years, not more than that. Most Nigerian real estate investments for rent takes about 10years+ or even 20years+

They can pay triple times more. Go to LAUTECH, Iree Poly, etc. All those schools without hostels on campus. They practically hustle for rooms in town.

Scarcity can be a determinant to an investment opportunity, but should not be a constant reliable factor, in ROI calculation. You can't use the demand of today for a long time investment plan, you have to always accomodate to the possibility that the scarcity would be fullfilled in no time , since it is a visible opportunity, hence your forcasted return would be affected along the line.

Nevertheless, I don't think the returns is something to strive for. Rather I would prefer the mortgage or buy-renovate-sell concept of real estate investment.

You can make desktop based application using php/mysql, and even CD database application that would be runned from a CD. But that would require that you install the main program unto the machine.

Sewa, In case you are going to build a house, consider looking at some higher institutions and build it in form of a hostel. Tiny rooms go for real high prices in most schools. Infact some landlords chase out their 'non-student' tenants to accommodate students. Hostel business is lucrative.

Hostels could even be worse in a Nigerian scenario. Who would rent your hostels during strikes and holidays? What happens to the income during that duration? Or students still rent during holidays? I really don't know,

Besides how much more can students pay, in comparison to people with jobs? Or are we talking about low cost hostel blocks?

- If you are a long term investor, you won't mind the steady income for life.

A long time smart investor, would never inject his own cash into a venture that would take about 10years to break even.

1. you can never go wrong with real estate, i have dabbled into it here and there. two reasons (A) You get rental income, (B) the value of you property will always go up on the long run. Use financing to stretch your money or mortgage.

When we talk about investment, we tend to sometimes forget the opportunity cost for the amount been injected. And yes you can go wrong with real estate, ask Donald Trump . But the idea of implementing a mortgage concept would be able to make it more feasible. Anywayz, I am yet to see a Nigerian that is very successful through using the "Invest in Real Estate for RENT" concept in Nigeria.
