alarinjo: When you say something like that, I come to think of A Chinese Business man offering to build rail-networks for free and keeping all the natural resources he comes upon during construction. We need to be very careful in analysing Chinese deals. |

Bossman: Thin client, yes a very good point raised there. But you forgot that there is a browser on each system accessing that Thin APP . Most Ideal in what sense, didn't get it? Well Cost efficient, yes in a way, beacuse they are small scale in nature, and maybe their Server Side interpreters could be Opensource, besides cheap Mind you, I am totally in support of Web based software, but my reason is just preference, due to the fact that I love Opensource. |

Politics / Re: Igbo President: What Will Nigeria Turn Into? by kazey(m): 12:07am On Jun 23, 2006 |
Every single human being has a spice of Tribalism or Racism in his actions or perceptions towards people of other races or tribes. We just express it differently. Its a human nature , if you disagree, then you are not being truthful. If you are hiding it, then you are being hypocritical, If you express it with wisdom, Then there is hope for a solution to supressing it. You can only solve an issue, when you know it is an issue, that needs treatment, but living in denial would just make it worse. Are we living in Denial, that we arent tribalist or racist? |

seeker: Good point, and Nigeria doesnt have such resources? Or are we applying a different conclusion in regards? In regards to the hongkong's citizen's, I think its better if we get one right here, : because nothing I would say would convince you. Drusilla: I think you should try to read on determinants of currency, trade differentials etc besides pegging, Come to think of it, Maybe I might want to invite Japan to tell us their currency power, so that I can judge their economical status. |
Programming / Re: Web Based Software Vs Standalone Solution by kazey(m): 5:40pm On Jun 22, 2006 |
When we talk of standalone solution, we shouldn't forget that, that also speaks of many enterprises that use network based standalone software. So the number of PCs etc doesn't really matter. Considering that most of the systems are dummy terminals and its the main server doing all the transaction. A good example is the bank. Now the question is does a bank for example really require a web based application to run its internal transaction? It all depends actually. As I said before, its about preference not really fullfilling a particular need. In regards to the scale of implementation especially on enterprise level, where the architecture tends to be more complex with lots of functionalities and models, besides departments, server based softwares are normally encouraged due to the nature of the multi-threading etc and its not that web based solutions wont work. Its just more convenient to have them on desktop. The culture of running a web based software on enterprise level hasn't really being adapted well yet. Preference is the factor, not really functionalities. |

Politics / Re: How Nigeria Got 'Independence'! by kazey(m): 1:33am On Jun 22, 2006 |
hehehe colonisation might not be a good thing if we look at what it entails, but in regards to African's current situation such as Nigerian's case, we would tend to be well better of being colonised, since we can't manage ourself properly. But in regards to what it entails, such as freedom to choose who to lead, then it might be question yet again. Look at the reason on why US invaded Iraq for example? Currently some people think it is a good thing, some fail to agree. It all depends on how it helped the citizens of the country. The effects of it does matter |

But that does not affect the welfare of the people? Poverty is at its minimal, people are ok, this is just plain politics. Nigeria on the other hand has economical and political problems, so what do we say to that? |
Programming / Re: Can A Skilled Programmer Make It In Nigeria? by kazey(m): 12:57am On Jun 22, 2006 |
If you don't do it, someone else would do it Nigeria is still an untapped market. Have any of you guys read on the Ghanian People Soft? that conqured all the M$ and other competitors market due to their tailored and local streamlined apps, and Microsoft had to partner with them? I heared they even have a Nigerian office. Well it is a very promising market, especially in the religious and industry sector, just be very good at delivering those softwares, build first and work on selling it, or even renting it out on a lease system. |

Normally those critical accounting applications are ran on an Intranet or an intranet network, hence the issue of downtime and slow response time is minimized due to the controls used to monitor them. I prefer web based applications to desktop based applications, especially if they are on an intranet network. |

By the way are we debating, or am I getting the whole post and I reply you wrong? I never said that we shouldn't learn from other people, thats why we go to school. What I do not agree with, is her statement on which she said; Many millionaires became successful from just reading testimonials or making other peoples success becomes their own success; Millionaires that is. I am still waiting for the list of those millionaires. Isn't that what she said? |
Politics / Re: Territorial Intergrity At All Cost by kazey(m): 11:09pm On Jun 21, 2006 |
Afeni: Hahaha, thats the fact . From my own perspective and understanding of African politics, The African black man is not a competent leader in a country that needs cross-ratial understanding plus tremendous economical growth especially from graze. That is still yet to be proven wrong. |
Politics / Re: How Nigeria Got 'Independence'! by kazey(m): 11:00pm On Jun 21, 2006 |
Drusilla: Thats not really true. Nevertheless I was talking in regards to the economical situation of such a country. A good example is Hongkong. It was a British colony from 1843, until its sovereignty was transferred to the PRC in 1997. Hong Kong has one of the least restricted economies in the world and is basically duty-free. It is the world's 11th largest trading entity and 13th largest banking centre. The dominant presence of international trade is reflected in the number of consulates in the territory. At USD $32,900 in 2005 (CIA World Factbook), the nominal per capita GDP of Hong Kong is somewhat higher than that of the four big economies of western Europe which is around USD $30,000. |

I do know Warren Buffett, and even if I didnt, I could have made a quick read on wikipedia or any online resource. Nevertheless here we go on Warren Buffet's success. We were talking about being successful from reading from other people's success or making other people's success work for us? Benjamin Graham (May 8, 1894 – September 21, 1976) was an influential economist and professional investor who is today often called the "Father of Value Investing" and the "Dean of Wall Street." In 1954, Graham invited Buffett to Graham-Newman. There, he worked closely with Graham and Walter Schloss. Graham, a tough man to work for, was adamant that a stock provide a wide margin of safety after weighting the tradeoff between its price and intrinsic value. Graham's demand that a stock be worth more than its price made sense to Buffett, but it also made him question whether the criteria were too stringent, causing them to miss out on some big winners that had more qualitative values.

Are we debating now? I was just trying to explain my post? @Darkchild Ok let me teach you how to read something in general, could be helpful in the future, before you start concluding to an OPINION. kazey: Above I am doing what exactly? Talking about what I found out, and below I am doing what exactly? Getting back to you and helping you and advicing you. This is exactly what I am doing. OPEN YOUR MIND LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. kazey: lcharm: They didn't teach you what was the meaning of OPINION in school, and that a forum is where you hear two perspectives of something, delivered in different ways? |

One interesting thing I found about Nigerians, is that they are only interested in an idea, concept or even model, when someone has gone through all the hurdles and pitfalls to become successfull in it. Forums is a very good example. You see Nigerians, all over the internet trying to start forums because Seun is acclaimed to make a fortune from his forum. What you forget to try to understand is 1. How much time, Seun has invested into Nairaland. 2. How much money, Seun has invested into Nairaland. 3. How much reading and research, Seun has been doing, to reach this level of achievement. 4. What ups and downs, Seun has undergone, to reach this level. And much more, and to be honest with you, I have not seen any other Nigerian yet, ready to learn by researching on their own and just asking one direct question or the other. Rather they want HOW TO MAKE IT QUICK 101 type of business, if it is one. A few words of advice is:- 1. If you are looking for a quick way to earn an income online, then forum is definitely not something you would earn a quick bucks in. 2. If you are not willing to learn on your own, then you would never be successful in a forum. 3. And lastly you must have the time and the money to run a forum like this. Consistency, Dedication and Content is the key to a successful forum, for this is the only secret behind the success of nairaland. Nevertheless Success to you might not be success to Seun and vis versa and hence I might just be ranting. 1 Like |
