Politics › Re: If You Become Naija's President What Will You Do To Ensure Nigeria's Development by kcjazz(m): 7:37am On Jan 03, 2010
Assuming I am elected without wuruwuru grin

I will focus on 7 things, this is partly because I believe that having a focus on some strategic aspects would create a ripple effect rather than been everywhere and achieving nothing.

1. EDUCATION - First and foremost abolish the NYSC program! Review and possibly change our academic curriculum in view of changing times
The minimum education would be a secondary school cert. In secondary schools students would learn the western education and choose a technical field to focus on. Polytechnics would focus on industrial arts and sciences.
Fund research in areas of agriculture, energy, science, leadership etc, through collaborations with international schools and organisations
Create libraries in every community. Any private school willing to have a license must show that it has a library and children's playground No more 2 bedroom primary school buildings.

2. HEALTHCARE - Free healthcare for ages 1-12 and 65+. Why? to save our future and reward our old people thereby creating a patriotic atmosphere that after your labor the government will pay for your health care. Fund medical research and collaborate with organisations to create accessible generic drugs. Community hospitals. Fund medical, nurse, midwife schools through collaboration with WHO.

3. SECURITY - Bring sexy back to the police cheesy. The police and military would be funded and held accountable. Free health and life insurance for officers, create effective and efficient judiciary, it is important to have a society where people trust and feel that even if the trust is violated they can seek redress in court

4. COMMUNAL INVOLVEMENT - every society must have a plan for its people. Hold local leaders accountable for infrastructures and youth development. Churches and mosques must play a huge part in the fight against corruption. Also grass root sports development

5.AGRICULTURE - We will set a plan to self sustain our nation in 10 years. Research to improve farming techniques, irrigation and loans for farmers would be a priority.

6. ENERGY - This is strategic cos every other depends on it, search and develop alternative sources of energy. Energy savings would be a part in developing new roads, creative energy efficient architectural designs (eg Build cooler buildings thereby reduce need for AC). Have a new national policy for energy

I would revitalize the Bureau of Statistics, they will play a huge role in the way money is spent. Projects that have no business in improving lives will have no chance. If you want an airport then show me the money, this applies to states collecting loans. Our flags and national anthems would be everywhere grin
Family › Re: Do you ever think Marriage Is Overrated? by kcjazz(m): 7:49pm On Dec 30, 2009
Marriage is not overrated, anyone who thinks so just happen to be listening to the wrong person

So what is the alternative? Live with a partner or exchange partners? That too does not guarantee peace and success
However I think its not for everyone
With cultural change and technology things that seem easy before are now difficult

If you ask me I think Marriage is a lot of work; so if you cant stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen

Christianity Etc › Re: How Do I Come To Know What God's Plan For My Life Is? by kcjazz(m): 7:31pm On Dec 21, 2009
For marriage- What is your heart telling you to do? I suppose you have prayed; it depends what you want out of your life. However marriage is an important step in life, you want to be with someone who will be sharing your vision as well as you sharing theirs and making it to happen. So who among this three shares your vision. I doubt they all do, so pray and make your decisions based on that.

Career, the same principle applies whats more important, do not be pressured to get married if you are not ready. If you have the money and you believe this training ties into your future then pray and make the decision.

I wish I could give you a formula, but none to give. Just talk to God about it, lay out your fears and make a decision. Some decisions might seem like a mistake today but they turn out well in the future and vis versa. Remember David's adultery and Jesus lineage.
Christianity Etc › Re: How Do I Come To Know What God's Plan For My Life Is? by kcjazz(m): 11:44pm On Dec 20, 2009
Sincere prayer is needed
Read the bible
Study other Christian literature like "The Purpose Driven Life" Rick Warren, "Experiencing God" Henry Blackaby, any book on spiritual gifts etc

Take it easy, its a journey as you grow it becomes clearer. What is important is that you take the first step.

bounce22:
I have been asked to help open an amusement/entertainment business for kids and families in Nigeria. As, I research more about Nigeria, I fin the country is rich in culture and pride considering how far the country have come. As it makes find it's own identity and become one of the finest countries, I feel it also need attractions the children of Nigeria. My understanding from many Nigerians I have meet is that there are currently nothing to do for kids.

I don't live in Nigeria and wanted to get your honest opinions about the idea. I am grateful if any of you can offer the following inside into the following questions that I have:

- What is the best city to put such a business for kids and families?
- Some suggested Abuja, Lagos, and Owerri. Which city is best?
- Does the middle class make enough income to afford such service?
- Would this business be received by Nigeria?
-
Lagos could be your best bet - Its a port city, the growing middle class reside mostly in the city because of its population. Abuja would come in second basically because of its road network and political presence. Basically be mindful that the biggest issue could be power to operate the park. Growing up I used to visit some in Lagos but as time went on they weren't fun any more, I don't know if they exist anymore though.

Middle class income- The issue is, Are you bringing quality? It has to be a place of fun and food, so expect to make a huge investment that would yield returns in a few years

Reception- The business would be received as long as you understand the Nigerian mentality of doing business, we are a bit different grin just a cultural thing. Adaptability and cultural intelligence would help.

Goodluck!

Sports › Re: Amodu Invites 32 Players To Final Super Eagles Camping. by kcjazz(m): 7:44pm On Dec 18, 2009
FBS:
Babayaro Takes Amodu’s List to the Cleaners

The majority of players invited by coach Shaibu Amodu for camping ahead of the 2010 African Cup of Nations have been described as below standard and will not make a successful team in Angola, former youth international Emmanuel Babayaro has decleared. Speaking in an interview with THISDAY in Kaduna yesterday, the former player-turned movie actor said apart from failing to meet the expectations of Nigerians, the list has done a great disservice to home-based players who 'are 100 percent better than some of the foreign based players who play little or no role in their various clubs abroad.'

Babayaro who was in goal when the Golden Eaglets beat Ghana 2-0 to lift the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Japan in 1993 said he was disappointed just like several Nigerians because Amodu, who went to the national team based on his credentials as a local coach, has misused a big opportunity to inject fresh blood into the team and also boost the rating of the Nigerian Premier League.

"I am disappointed because the same Amodu Shaibu, whose CV is Nigerian and got the national team job based on what he did with local sides like BCC Lions and Shooting Stars, does not believe in the same league that produced him. He now wants only the players who have been trained by the same foreign coaches he said he is better than.

http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=162229
There we go again with "inject new blood mentality". 2002 remember? What is Babayaro saying? Are the foreign based players Chinese? The home based players might be said to be dedicated but the game also needs technicality. Look at TP Mazembe at the world club soccer, it shows a difference that the game is down to a science not just "I sabi play"

Amodu has chosen his team, wait and see if he succeeds and if not fire him. The problem of Nigerian football is not Amodu Shuaibu
Politics › Re: Why Is Nigeria So Difficult To Develop? by kcjazz(m): 12:46am On Dec 16, 2009
The idea that the government is solely responsible for development is faulty. Who are the government? Who voted or in our case who enabled rigging? The fallen values and leadership is everyones responsibility. When I say leadership I don't just mean political it has to do with family, religious (churches and mosques have to promote values), professional (teacher, police, entrepreneur, lawyers)

Here are some key indices that would foster development

Equality- For all tribes.
Zero corruption- Someone has got to say no. The government must create an efficient legal system, as citizens we must promote a culture to be ethical in our business, someone has got to say no. No legal system is perfect in the world but efficiency will give reprieve to those who feel trust has been violated.
A sound education system- Government enable the field by investing in research, scholarships, infrastructure etc Citizens who invest in this sectors must show a dedication to excel.
Culture of merit and creativity- We must do things differently
Discipline of dedication and hard work

Everyone has a role to play
Politics › Re: Why Is Nigeria So Difficult To Develop? by kcjazz(m): 10:13pm On Dec 14, 2009
Nigerians and their economists  grin

For me it is a values problem; until we as individuals, families, religious bodies, professionals respect and value each other, our development would be slow and hard.

This is why a leader loots blatantly without remorse
A teacher who is suppose to impart knowledge threatens to fail his students if they don't pay for handouts in cash or kind

Social capital will improve business; Like Depilot or someone mentioned we need to do what we can to make things work, make our leaders accountable.

Sports › Re: 2010 Worldcup: Suggestions For Amodu by kcjazz(m): 7:09pm On Nov 26, 2009
Well ANC should be a rehearsal for the WC with the goal of getting to the finals
He should admit that he needs help, convince the FA to add back room coaches and staff. I see Mali firing Keshi after ANC except he wins a medal which is highly doubtful. For the good of the country let him be called to help either as a trainer or scout, match reader. Same goes for Siaone, Oliseh and Kalika.

These are all Nigerians (except Kalika of course), Amodu should imbibe the virtues of a true leader by getting the best to achieve his goals (add value to the team). Together it would be hard for any team to crush them.
yea u have salient points u raise

one thing u should remember about soludo is that he seems to have good relations with yar adua at the centre, which is very helpful to expedite approvals

like i said,if u check out a world bank estimate on how much nigeria and africa needs for infrastructure,u will see it runs into hundreds of billions of dollars

the only way to get that money is to borrow it

dubai the world class city owes $80bln as we speak,

debt is not a bad thing per say,if it is put to good use,or else we will just keep recieving 10 to twelve billion naira a month from abuja federation account and use it to pay salary and tar one or two roads

that is not good enough

as for tinapa, well the film studio is being used now,the only thing holding up the take up of the shops is the dredging of the calabar river to allow big ships to berth at the calabar port

by the way i am from anambra state so i also want the best for our state
Thanks bro,

I am actually from Imo State but again those visions are actually what is needed for Imo too grin
Soludo is a smart guy, I know debts run big governments, I like the fact he talked about the oil in some parts of the state, he should create an effective tax system to generate internal income and implement a good fiscal policy.
Dream big, Start small and move fast. I am tired of the suffering based on lack of effective planning. Good luck to Anambra!

abuja vision was started not by one person, look where it is today, same thing with a lot of things going on in lagos, started by tinubu and continued with fashola

one thing about nigerians is that we tend to stick with something as long as there is a vision and a masterplan

the problem is when there is no vision, then the politicians tend to lack direction

p.s,tinapa is already on from what i heard, the hotels and the film studios is already being used, plus the calabar carnival will also bring in patronage this december
I spent four years in Anambra 2001-2005, I am asking questions as a citizen of Nigeria. What is the timeline for this plan? It is good to have visions like Obama but you and I know that is is a different game when he is elected (As Obama is currently experiencing). Tinapa has not lived up to its potential yet the beautiful state of Cross River is indepted heavily. Was Tinapa built to host carnivals? Was it not for a bigger vision (business and entertainment)? What role did it play at the recently concluded U17 world cup?.

I believe Anambra is already indebted now as we speak. So he should give a timeline showing actions and results before we run with the vision. He has stepped on toes already, so he should expect a fight from the political cabal from day 1.

I don't have a problem with visions, I just need to know the how to the vision.

name me a better leader, just one?

soludos bank reforms helped quadruple nigerias gdp in just 8yrs,if he can do it for nigeria,he can do it for anambra

he is going to borrow it by floating long term bonds,u do know that dubai is indebted to the tune of $80bln dollars?

of course anambra wont borrow that much, but even a $5bln-$10 bln dollar bond with a 10 -20yr lifespan is enough to kickstart growth

the good thing about growth is that once it starts,it keeps going till u can pay off your loans relatively easy with tax reciepts
Thanks for the info.
This is my problem with the blueprint. Dubai was not built in one day Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum the ambitious PM of Dubai is living the dreams of his father, he is the executor of the long term vision. This plans are not going to be addressed in 8 years hence I don't see no difference between him and others in the past. Remember Cross River state and the Tinapa project. undecided
I dont seem to agree with you here. 1998 was not a disastrous outing. We won 2 matches and lost 2, same as what happened in 1994. A poor technical team would not have seen us past 1st round.

Secondly the 2002 team did not fail because Amodu was removed but because of the very relevant members of the team that were forcefully dropped without ready replacements (Oliseh, finidi,Babangida et al).
In 1998 we hired Bora after we qualified with one game in hand, we had the opportunity to blend the best of 94 class and the Olympic 96 class, at least everyone agrees that our best outing is 94 WC, we lost to Denmark 4-1 in a match we could have won but the coach could not handle the disunity in the camp. Beating clueless Spain and losing to Denmark is disastrous at least the coach was fired after the WC. The same Troussier took a less fanciful Japan to round of 16 @ 2002 WC.

In 2002, the relevant members you said were dropped, were they not dropped by a coach? Amodu would have taken them to the WC

Amodu should be given an ANC mandate. My feeling is even if he wins it, he still won't be supported. We need to get over the fact that we can't dominate soccer in Africa without adequate and systematic planning.
Sports › Re: France Vs Ireland :the Importance Of Technology In Football by kcjazz(m): 6:21am On Nov 19, 2009
FIFA is backtracking on this cos of the costs for poorer nations. It needs all country to be on board. Imagine our last match with Kenya, they used a manual board for substitutions.

This technology thing can only be implemented by regional bodies UEFA, CAF, CONCACAF etc and hopefully then FIFA will make the move, but they should consider adding more linesmen especially behind the posts
Sports › Re: Who Should Coach 9ja @ 2010 Wc? by kcjazz(m): 6:12am On Nov 19, 2009
Amodu Shuaibu + improved technical crew.

We should learn from history, this happened in 98,2002, we qualify, we change coaches and we perform disastrously.

Amodu should reap the fruits of his labor, we should add someone to the technical crew (Nooji, Kalika, Oliseh, Okocha). He (Amodu) comes across as a person who works alone and that attitude must change.
Meanwhile can we pay a Hiddink? With planning he couldn't qualify Russia.
That's a waste of money for a country that needs better roads, hospitals etc.

ALL WE NEED IS PLANNING

We must start thinking of life after 2010, hire a coach by August 2010 Siasia/Kalika, Oliseh/Amunike gve them a 5 year plan to raise a team for 2014 WC.

Adokie's timing is wrong, where was he when the team list was drawn?

Someone asked about Opabunmi (u17 2003), well in that same 2003 Sinama Pongolle was MVP, the fact that he is not a world best player today doesn't make him an age cheat. My point is there are many variables that determine the success of a footballer not just age. In this business many fail, so the chances for Nigeria is to create a large pool for talents to cover the margin of error.

Adokie said Fortune was in his feeder team 7 yrs ago, ok where are the other members of the feeder team? Are they world stars today? My thinking is judge a teacher by the quality of the students.

That brings me to my other point which is create an effective system for our league (u10, u12, 14, etc), this year has been a good year for the league, football is big business. Our young boys fail in Europe not because of their age but because of they compete with other kids who have gone through a better system of training, just kicking the ball on the streets of Mushin does not qualify you to be a great candidate for Man United feeder team. A tournament is totally different from a league. (Heard that from Jose Maurihno).

With effective use of investments each team should have such a system, each local government, state etc.

Politics › Re: Fg Approves Construction Of Anambra Airport by kcjazz(m): 8:25pm On Nov 04, 2009
Does Anambra deserve an airport? Yes!

Is the airport going to solve its transportation crisis? No

The main city of Onitsha needs more than an airport to ease the transportation of cargo in and out of the city.
Why is the government not thinking of a rail way system to move this heavy goods, its cheaper in the long run.
Why is the state government not thinking of the rail system? Is it not sexy enough to buy votes?
The rail tracks are there just make them functional, that is cheaper for business people, saves the destruction on our roads caused by 911 cargo trucks, lives are saved, Onitsha bridge gets a lifeline (I fear it will collapse soon).
To solve traffic problems we must be thinking of moving more people efficiently using either the sea or rail.

It depends on what you mean by the term "political value"

Nairaland cannot support political candidates openly (that defeats its purpose), however future political candidates can use this tool to reach out to people. I am even surprised that companies are not using this medium to engage in conversations with their customers. I would like to see an MTN page, a PHCN page, Nigerian Police page  grin etc and along that line a political candidates page.

I am enlightened by comments and views of people here and if I have to think of governance differently the insights here really help. It brings a balance with the news media coverage. As time goes on this forum will grow and remember it would even be better with rural access to internet
