Thousands march in Turkey to demand ban on LGBTQ groups

An anti-LGBTQ group marched Sunday in Istanbul, demanding that LGBTQ associations be shuttered and their activities banned, in the largest demonstration of its kind in Turkey.

Several thousand people joined the demonstration dubbed “The Big Family Gathering.” Kursat Mican, a speaker for the organizers, said they had gathered more than 150,000 signatures to demand a new law from Turkey’s parliament that would ban what they called LGBTQ propaganda, which they say pervades Netflix, social media, arts and sports.

Hatice Muge, who works as a nanny, came to the gathering from Bursa province.

“People are here despite the rain for their children, for future generations,” she said, urging the Turkish government to take action. “They should save the family, they should save the children from this filth."

The group held banners that read: “Protecting the family is a national security issue.”

LGBTQ parades have not been allowed in Turkey since 2015.

Ahead of Sunday’s demonstration, the organizers circulated a video using images from past LGBTQ Pride marches in Turkey. The video was included in the public service announcement list of Turkey’s media watchdog.

The video and the demonstration prompted an outcry from LGBTQ associations and other rights groups. The organizers of Istanbul Pride called on the governor’s office to ban the event and authorities to take down the video, arguing both were hateful.

ILGA Europe, which works for LGBTQ equality, tweeted it was extremely concerned about the risks of violence.

“The Turkish state needs to uphold its constitutional obligation to protect all its citizens against hate and violence,” it said.

Amnesty International’s Turkey office said public service announcements listing the event violated Turkey’s equality and non-discrimination principles.

Top Turkish officials have called LGBTQ people “perverts” who aim to hurt traditional family values.

Note that it is only during the time of speaking words of God that the soul is receiving divine life from God. Hence, how often words of God are spoken as words of faith determines the rate at which the measure of the Spirit in a person grows.

Speaking words of God is the charging cable for the soul. God is the charging power source. Whenever a person speaks words of faith based on words of God, the soul is being fed with divine life, which is the fruit of the tree of life--food of the soul.

All these are not mere theory. Put them to practice and see yourself becoming more and more like Jesus Christ.

If you belong to God, as you speak words of God (words of faith based on words of God), God gives you His Holy Spirit. The more you speak God’s words, God continues to increase the measure of His Spirit in you. There is no limit to this increase, as speaking of God’s words connects you to God Himself. It is just like charging of a battery or capacitor using a voltage source. The battery voltage continually increases towards the voltage of the source, until the battery voltage becomes equal to the voltage of the source, at which point the charging completes. The rate of increase of the battery voltage is proportional to the charging current.

Speaking words of faith that are based on words of God connects the soul of the speaker to God. The Word is God (Jn. 1:1). Once the soul is connected to God this way, divine life or the Holy Spirit flows from God to the soul. Divine life is therefore the charging current that charges or builds up the soul. Since the spiritual level of God is infinite, the charging never ends.

In Jo. 1:8, God revealed to Joshua how to perfectly keep His commandments. It is by always speaking words of faith based on the commandments of God. For example:

Word of faith:

As a person sends back God’s word to Him by speaking word of faith, the word gets fulfilled in the person’s life. The reason is that speaking God’s word connects the speaker to God so that the Spirit flows into the person’s soul. The Spirit thereby fulfills what God’s word says. Through constant speaking of words of God, a person’s life becomes filled with peace and joy.

Ro. 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.

Speaking words of faith based on words of God brings salvation. It frees a person from the power of sin. It also saves a person from all manners of problems.

2Pe. 1:3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
2Pe. 1:4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

Through constant speaking of words of faith based on words of God, a person builds up the divine nature in her/him and can receive everything that is needed for life and godliness.

Re. 12:11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

The way to overcome Satan and his works is by the blood of Jesus Christ and by constantly speaking words of faith that are based on commandments and promises of God. This will be especially important during the great trial that will soon envelope the whole world (Re. 3:10). The great trial will happen very close to the rapture. Angels of God will war against Satan and his angels and push them from the second heaven into the world (Re. 12:7-9). They will then use all their powers to try and make Christians to fall away from faith in Jesus Christ, so that that they will not make the rapture. The Bible says that too many Christians will fall away from the faith (Mt. 24:10,12; 2Thes. 2:3). The only way to overcome Satan and his works is to make sure that one is baptized into Jesus Christ in water and in the Spirit and then constantly speaking words of faith based on words of God.

The Federal Government should pay the university workers the backlog of salaries. ASUU is right in demanding that because the lecturers are going to cover up the work for 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions. If the Federal Governemnt allows the strike to enter September, ASUU will accept to lose the backlog of salaries, but then throw the students into a hell of a situation, as students completely lose 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions. University workers will definitely work for the backlog of salaries.

Nowhere in Scripture do we see invitations being given to raise our hands if we want to follow Jesus. Could these superficial ways people are now being called to follow Jesus have something to do with the superficial ways many Christians are now following Him?

As Bonhoeffer said, “When Christ calls a man, He bids Him come and die.” They are to die to their former life and no longer live for themselves, but for Him. In the New Testament, when someone made a commitment to follow Jesus, they were immediately water baptized, which represented a total commitment and change of life. Could this supplanting of the biblical way to commit to Christ with easier ways to “accept Jesus” be why believers today live far more casual, superficial lives? There is a great contrast between the radical nature of believers in Scripture and what is acceptable today.

This may also explain why as many as 95% of those who “make a decision for Christ” are not “added to the church” today. In the New Testament, 100% of those who committed to following Jesus were “added to the church” (see Acts 2:47). In the New Testament, to be water baptized was a bold public statement of their commitment to die with Him, so they could also be raised with Him.

It’s not about the water; it’s about the most important commitment of our lives. Just as a wedding is not about a marriage but about a commitment to be married, so is baptism. It is a commitment to die to this world and be raised to a new life in Him—to follow the King, live for Him, and do His will, not ours. We should make big deals out of weddings because the marriage commitment is so important. How much more important is being joined to the Lord?

This is not to judge anyone’s salvation by how they made a commitment to the Lord. As the Apostle Paul said, “The Lord knows those who are His” (see II Timothy 2:19). However, we are also required to judge others by their fruit. Can we really believe someone “gave their life to Jesus” when there is no change in their life or lifestyle thereafter? Could it be that shallow messages that lead people to make shallow decisions lead them to think they are “saved” when in fact their eternal lives are still in jeopardy?

Jesus asked, “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord’ and not do the things which I say” (see Luke 6:46 NKJV)? If we really believe He is the Lord and Creator of all, what can possibly eclipse our devotion to knowing, following, and obeying Him in all things?

The Scriptures declare that those who believe in the Lord Jesus will be saved. The Greek word eis translated as in here literally means “into.” Eis means to be transferred from a position outside to a position inside. The knowledge of who Jesus is, is a start, but as we are told, even demons believe this, and demons are obviously not saved. Believing in Him, or that He existed and exists today as King of kings is not the same as believing into Him. To believe into Him will result in a radical change of life and will be attested by the fruit in our lives.

If we are one who has come to Him by a shallow message that only required a shallow devotion to Him, then “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart…” (see Hebrews 3:7,15; 4:7). Those who truly believe in Him, not only occasionally visit with Him, but they also live in Him. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Knowing Him as the Way is how we start and knowing Him as the Truth is how we continue, but neither of these are real to us if He is not our Life.

The Somalia of the 1970`s did not look anything like the modern Somalia. Somalia at the time was nicknamed the Switzerland of Africa.

Siad Barre ruled Somalia during this period. He managed to succesfully introduce core Socialist tenets into Somalian clan based society, like initiating a massive literacy campagin and expansion of education.

The Somalia of 1970s had everything going according to plan. Somalia was achieving real economic development, and inter-clan conflicts were minimal since Siad Barre managed to satisfy the needs of clan members. It had one of the best militaries in Africa, and had the support of Soviet union and key Arab states. As shown below in those pictures, it had well kept and tidy urban centers.

So, now is the opportune time for a war.

Somalians of the time had a mini-imperialistic aspiration which they called ``greater Somalia``. They believed that neighbouring countries own a land that rightfully belonged to them because there are ethnic Somalis living in the area. According to them, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya all owned lands belonged to Somalia.

By the 1970s, Ethiopia, unlike Somalia, was a troubled country. A famine swept throughout the nation and killed countless number of people. Ethiopia was in a midist of a chaotic socialist revolution which involved a lot of violence. Its military was largely disorganized, and it did not have the foreign support Somalia had.

In 1977, Somalia`s Siad Barre invaded Ethiopia without much of a warning. Somalia`s had a superior army, and initially controlled large swathes of land in Eastern Ethiopia.

However, since God always listens to Ethiopia`s prayers at the worst times of its history, Somalia`s allies like the USSR and Southern Yemen betrayed Somalia and sided with Ethiopia. Cuba`s Fidel Castro personally sent troops to Ethiopia , and with the combination of allied help and Ethiopian valor the Somali army was eternally crushed at the battle of Kara-Mara in 1978.

The failure in this war marked the start a dramatic and rapid downward spiral for Somalia. Somalians wasted large amounts of manpower and resources in the war, and many within the country blamed Siad Barre for the loss. The country became politically divided. Siad Barre, realizing that he can not enjoy the support he had in the country in the past, instead sought support in his own clan. The clans to the north of the country supported his rebels, and Siad Barre bombed his own people in Northern Somalia and killed countless number of people there. Soon after he was ousted from power.

ASUU leadership didn't consider the state of Nigeria's economy before embarking on this strike. Embarking on this kind of long strike at a time when Nigeria statehood is facing all manners of problems is not a wise thing to do. Radicalism should be counterbalanced by realistic reasoning.

Right now the Federal Government borrows to pay salaries. We'll soon get to a point where the Federal Government starts laying off workers. And ASUU is radically asking for salary increase; after all Senators are receiving huge money. If every Federal worker starts reasoning that way, what do you think will happen?

The Lord has called His church to be the salt and light of the world to preserve the world from corruption and help people find answers to the world’s ultimate problems. As the world enters this great time of trouble and the crises in the world increase, the One who lives inside His people will shine ever brighter. God’s people will also stand out brighter as darkness increases. We will see the greatest miracles and wisdom come through God’s people. However, the prophecies concerning these days are clear: God’s people will not be appreciated or celebrated by the world. It will be just the opposite.

As evil grows and gets stronger, so will the witness of the Lord. As we have said many times, Isaiah 60:1-3 is clear, when darkness covers the earth and “deep darkness” the people, the glory of the Lord will rise and appear on His people. Always remember, the result of this will be nations coming to the Lord and His light, as stated in verse 3 of this text. The darker the darkness, the brighter the glory.

As both Jesus and the apostles stated, these things will come on the world like labor contractions on a woman. We now clearly see this pattern. As a woman gets closer to birth, the contractions become stronger and more frequent. Such contractions are now apparent in our time. Every day we get closer to the birth of a new world over which our King will rule. As the apostle Paul explained in Acts 14:22, “through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom,” and the whole world will enter the kingdom through the “great tribulation.”

Of course, we all want to hear there will be nothing but peace and safety, but His peace will not come on earth until we have gone through the “great tribulation.” The whole earth must go through this to enter the kingdom. Still, those who are walking with God can have the greatest peace and safety even amid the greatest tribulations. The peace of God and joy of the Lord on His people are greater than any trial. This is our heritage in Him.
