The Department of State Security (DSS) has released a list of 24 items it recovered from its raid on the on the All Progressive Congress (APC) data office in Lagos.

In a statement on Monday by its Deputy Director, Public Relations Marilyn Ogar, the DSS insisted it acted on a petition that alleged an ongoing cloning activities of INEC Permanent Voters Card (PVC) by some unscrupulous persons with intent to hack into INEC data base, corrupt it and replace them with their own data at No. 10 Bola Ajibola Street, off community Avenue, Allen Avenue, Ikeja LGA, Lagos State.

The statement read: “Consequently, the Service placed the premises which had no Signpost under surveillance and was convinced that unwholesome activities were ongoing within.

“On 22nd November, 2014, a search operation was executed at the above address were a Search Warrant obtained from the Court was executed. The search was carried out in the presence of one Onuchukwu Chika AUGUSTINE and twenty four (24) others, while and the following items were recovered: One server, Four hard drives, One external hard drive, One HP Laptop, One Server switch, Fourflash drives, One Samsung tablet, One Apple computer system without CPU and thirty one Ghana-must-go bags containing hard copies of already captured data.

“All items recovered were documented at the back of the Search Warrant signed by the Service team leader and was witnessed by two occupants of the premises; Onuchukwu Chika Augustine, an IT personnel and Olaposi Fayemi, a supervisor on duty.”

The statement also disclosed that photographs (still and video) of service personnel entering and exiting the premises in an operation that lasted for two hours were taken.

“Exploitation of some of the recovered items has revealed that one particular individual had his data captured eighteen times with different names and addresses but yet the same photograph. However, further investigation is ongoing and findings shall be made public,” it added.

Dr Adekunle Idris, Chairman, Academic Staff
Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State
University, Ojo (LASU) chapter, on Monday
called on the State Government to urgently
address some burning issues in the institution.
Briefing journalists in Lagos, Idris urged the
state government, university council and
management to address the lingering issues to
forestall looming crises.

He said that the ASUU congress in the
university had mandated the executive
committee to explore avenues of dialogue to
resolve the contending issues.

The union leader, however, said that they may
be forced to declare an industrial action if the
dialogue with the government failed to achieve
the desired result.

Shedding light on the issues at stake, Idris said
that the state government had not
implemented the Universities Miscellaneous
Provision Act 2012 in LASU.

“This law was passed by the Federal Republic
of Nigeria for effective running of universities
and we were part of ASUU /FG 2009
agreement.

“One of the provisions of the agreement is that
academic staff on professional cadre shall
retire at age 70 and non-academic staff at 65.
“It also says that principal officers shall serve
for a single term of five years,” he said.

Idris said that the state government had,
during a deliberation with the institution’s
four unions on Dec. 31, 2010, promised to
implement the agreement but failed to do so.

According to him, the government also made
some promises to the union at a meeting held
on Nov. 29 but has yet to keep them.

“The union had consistently called on all the
stakeholders of the institution to intervene and
resolve the pending issues in LASU during the
five and a half months ASUU strike,” he said.

Idris also urged the government to review the
tuition fees in the university, noting that it had
become the most expensive public university
in Nigeria, making it unattractive to applicants.
“The 1416 candidates who applied for the
2013/2014 Post-UTME used to be just two
arms of the accounting department when the
fees were N25,000.

“There is an assurance that the number of
candidates short-listed for admission will drop
when some of them finally know the total
amount they will be paying.

“It is exorbitant for a student in the faculty of
education to pay N197,000 while other
departments pay N250,000 and the medical
students pay N350,000.

“The founding fathers meant that education
should be made available and affordable to all
citizens of Nigeria especially indigenes of Lagos
State but the current school fees has defeated
that objective,” he said.

Idris noted that the Senior Staff Association of
Nigeria Universities (SSANU), LASU chapter had
been on strike since Sept. 29, while the non-
academic staff suspended theirs on Dec. 3.

I used to think just like you until i met one of my lecturer; an Associate prof, she had no Ph.D by the way.
So I still maintained that it has to do with your journals, seminars and researches.
We have this prof in finance dpt in unilag, he'd been a Dr since 1993 or there about, guess what? He just became a professor in 2011!

and do not forget that in NIGERIA politics dictate most of our destiny , you may be shock that those who are better hardworking than that, may never get that Prof or even be frustrated out of the system. my program is a one year intense and tedious masters program, if I'm not taking it simple or easy it may affect my whole system, that is why I'm saying it as if it's nothing. that is the spirit.

You just committed a big blunder by saying prof is just a chieftancy title and on e can't earn more than PhD. Have you had about Post-Doctorate? You think it stops at Just PhD? A prof earns far above what an ordinary PhD holder will earn.
For those claiming to go through university it will be better you stopped claiming what you didnt do because i see no reason after graduating from the poly you further proceed to the university for a degree and now shouting Poly graduates are practically oriented than university graduates. I want to ask '' Who are these lecturers that taught the Poly graduates these practicals? arent they degree holders? or do polytechnics now recruit HND holders to lecture in the polys? You cant compare a Specialist/ Professional (University graduate) who dishes out instructions on how you go (Poly graduate) about a problem. Its enough all these lies of poly students bn better practically than university graduates because i wonder how many equipment are working in those polytechnic. if you talk of entrepreneurial skills i give it to poly graduates because they are faced with so many inferiority complexes that they tend to do well in business.
