I love this thread. Heartfelt contributions from forumites and smart intelligent OP sharing problems and looking for solutions systematically. And respecting husband, putting family first even though she's the bread winner.

We're up all night to get lucky and we will be by the grace of Jah. Amen!

Obviously resigning would be a stupid as*s decision. Government work with all its uselessness at least brings job security, husband is a private employee that could be sacked anytime; then what?

All posters have given necessary advice. Let her work on getting a transfer down the line to join him. In the mean time they should both work out weekend and holiday visits.

How can the DRL's on your car irritate you? ...

it irritates me cos like i said earlier "i tend to associate it in my subconscious with unruly political/military escort drivers with blaring sirens."

My Volkswagen car dashboard was beeping yesterday which has finally led me here. Discovered it was the coolant warning.

and the good folks here here recommend the Volkswagen coolant additive, G 12 A8D

An instructional video is also available on the company website

Thank God for Google, so one can always research stuff and kill ignorance...avoid making a fool of oneself.

My "new" car came from the US and it has this feature. I totally hate it...think it's irritating. Battery life waste, plus i tend to associate it in my subconscious with unruly political/military escort drivers with blaring sirens.

This is a tribalistic rant and i think against the Nairaland Rules.

That being said with my first car i used Belgium tyres throughout. Repeated the same thing a week ago as i got my second car kicking with 4 tyres costing just N12k. All pockets are not deep and pros and cons i think my likes will be fine.

Car Talk / Re: Reasons Why Real Men Still Drive Stick Cars .....manual by kenyarttar: 4:15am On Jan 01, 2014
Ikenna351 you sound hot headed and boastful. Possibly because our Oga Siena said he liked manual. But may i remind you that he also said

Siena:

... stress is relative. I don't find driving a manual "stressful" in any way. Operating a clutch, and shifting gears manually can only be "stressful" IF you've conditioned yourself to believe getting to grips with a manual is hard work.

Meaning he's a super man!

Which also means Auto's were created to make driving more pleasurable, so yes they are generally a technological improvement on the average over manuals.

I say once again, life is short no time for long thing. "Learn with a manual then switch to Auto". Peace!

Its all about trust !!! If he relocates from his office after collecting your deposit, of what use was your principle ?
Nope, it's a very valid request. Trust is built not given freely. If he demands to know his office then by all mean send him the physical address and invite him over. This is strictly business no sentiments attached.

Autos / Re: New Tires : Death Trap?. by kenyarttar: 6:57pm On Dec 30, 2013
Exponental: Tire likely 2 be EXPIRED b4 purchase.
On one side of d tire, u see a set of 4-digit number cycled.
Eg 1206: 1st 2 numbers tells u dat d tyre was made in d 12th wk of d yr, dat shld be 4th wk in march while d oda 2 tells u d yr, 2006.
These numbers ONLY tells u d time of manufacture. The life-span of a tire is 4yrs, so add 4 to 2006, 2010, meaning if u buy such tire, u are buying an expired tire.
So watch out when buyin one.

Thanks for this tip!

My "new" car's a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, presently at the mechanics but should be released to me next week. Thanks to this thread took great curiosity in the tyres.

The original spare tyre (came with the car from factory...unused with sticker label and all) details are 205 55 16 91. Googled it and got a perfect match with RIM size advise http://www.sizemytires.com/vehicle/2001/volkswagen/jetta (I intend getting Alloy rims!) . Thank you so much everyone!

Siena: I prefer manual to auto, though one of my cars is an automatic.

Uhm, i'm surprised.

Personally like every Nigerian I learnt to drive with manual and extensively used one in my day to day job for over a year. But no doubts about it Auto transmissions makes driving easier and a pleasure. Life is short, why exert energy pressing the clutch and changing gears all the time, especially in serious hold up situation when you could save that energy for other important things. I think people should compulsorily learn with manual but switch to auto as soon as they're very comfortable on the steering.

Lexusgs430: A thought just crossed my mind. I presently use a Blackberry phone + Motorola Android Phone, I have whatsapp installed on both sim cards and are active.
When my Lenovo P780 arrives, would it still be possible to access Whatsapp on both sim cards installed in the Lenovo ?

Well said RED BULL. My two cents:

it means you presently have two whatsapp accounts, each tied to a different phone number/sim and one on each phone. But you can only use one whatsapp account on a phone at a time, so you will have to make a choice between the two accounts.

I understand there are various 3rd party apps that claim to be able to solve your problem but you stand a risk of being blocked (see http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/general/21009863) and i don't think it's worth it.

The day (about 2 months back) i wanted to do a welcome back in Abuja and did so under an hour at MTN HQ, while Glo HQ kept posting me our link is down, come tomorrow etc is the day i knew alll was not well. MTN HQ was neat, bustling with customers Yet orderly and they even photocopied my Id card for me free while Glo HQ was dirty, scanty, disorganized with water leaking somewhere and streaming on the surface, the worst was them asking me to go Photocopy outside with a vendor. Totally looking like some run down government parastatel.

I have a friend too who changed jobs from Glo to Airtel plus you talking about dwindling sales is an eye opener.

My postulations now: Glo is a Ltd company run by The Adenugas unlike Airtel, MTN and Etisalat which are like PLCs with no core controlling power calling shots at a wimp/based on mood feelings. And as such the other Telcos are more organized.

Still i would take a Glo job offer as i need to advance from where i am. Possibly be at it for a year and then switch to something much better. So help me God in 2014. Amen!

The flint: I hear say glo dey on board, sum1 should help with modus for DAT one

Glo works...

1) using your blackberry OS7 phone as a modem and connecting so you browse on your laptop

or

2) Tethering with your phone ONLY ON A BLACKBERRY 10 device using any BIS OS7 or OS 10 plan.

So in essence Glo works only with a Blackberry phone .Other than that manage Airtel or make do with the MTN 2,500 night plan.

Lexusgs430: Based on the write-ups and recommendations on this thread, I have just placed my order for my Lenovo P780. Total cost $225.00 comes with original lenovo leather case, car charger, screen protector and card reader.
I also did my own personal read-up. And realised not all sellers have the Lenovo P780 rooted and have ROW rom (rest of the world) and not all have the google playstore pre-installed.
Of course, mine has all of the above pre-installed and I have told seller to delete all chinese apps and test throughly !!! (I learnt some devices have wifi connectivity issues )

Wonderful, i love this. Congrats. Wish i could order one myself but i'm tight got some projects on my hand. maybe in january...if there isn't anything better than. Do keep us posted on how the delivery goes wink

P/S: we're very interested to know where you placed your order. Link if possible.

willyfrench: Finally this thread is up. Didn't wanna start it up cos I know the phone isn't that known. To my knowledge no one else uses this phone except me. I've had mine for a couple of months now and I've finally laid my smartphone search to rest. This device's battery backup is too amazing that you actually try hard to kill the battery so you can charge it up. A professional's dream come true in a smartphone I must say.

Nah, i know someone who bought it last week, online though, like i said for less than 45k.

How/where did you buy yours? Any cons so far?

Battery is the main driving force for this phone and i must say it's a very valid one.

At Li-Po 4000 mAh it can last for at least 2 days with average use.

Costs is less than 45k and it can be ordered online.

I highly recommend it!

This is a stupid question...no brainer. You should knock yourself on the head.

The husband resigns and learns to become more homely. Could start a biz from home, or something less demanding, while wifey stays earning the big mullah to keep family comfortable and happy.
