hopefulLandlord: The purpose this thread was created for is that atheists finally become theists since OP just discovered a "groundbreaking" discovery that would FINALLY prove to any doubters that god exists
But what this thread would succeed in doing is making certain theists to become atheists
Reading the arguments with clear mind does that
The dilemma that Nairaland theists go through is that in trying to PROVE their god exists, they infact prove he doesn't or at least they're not sure
They're making doubting theists turn atheist
And making atheists stand firm At this junction, I move the motion that the thread be closed. It has fully served its purpose. Any other addition by the OP is just merely going round in circles just to save face. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Catholic Priest Prays For A Dead Man And He Comes Back To Life by kevoh(m): 7:41am On Jul 11, 2016 |
1. Modestus Chilaka is a fraudster.Showing us a picture of a man in what looks like a coffin is not proof of anything. No death certificate, no interview of real life attendants at the morgue where he was, no verifiable history of the ''so-called'' dead man. Heck, even Christ Embassy does a good job of getting their backstory right with a good video . Anyway, the link below contains a video that exposes Modestus Chilaka in one of his usual fraud actions. https://www.nairaland.com/2314872/fake-miracles-reverend-father-modestus#337495122. Modestus Chilaka is not a recognised priest of the Roman Catholic Church. http://www.odogwublog.com/2015/08/how-chidozie-chilaka-was-exposed-as.htmlhttp://thesagenewspaper.com/?p=97483. The present day Roman Catholic Church is naturally cautious in declaring matters of miracles. There is a strict and rigorous process of authentication involving medical experts and scientists. Here is an excerpt from http://www.economist.com/node/304212 concerning miracle claims at lourdes. Pay attention to the phrases in italics and you will realise why most miracle claims in Nigeria will not pass any of these scrutinies. Patients are first examined by Dr Theillier, in consultation with their attending doctors, since most of the sick come in organised pilgrimages complete with their own medical entourages. Dr Theillier also consults the patient's regular doctor, back at home, for a case-history.
Next, the patient is sent packing, to return the following year with his full medical records. These are then considered by Lourdes' international medical association, made up of doctors in town for the pilgrimage who take an interest in the case. Up to 250 different doctors will pore over the records, and poke and prod the patient, for three years running. If the cure still stands up to scrutiny, the case is passed on to the international medical committee—20 experts, not all Catholic—who meet annually to decide such matters. One or two doctors who specialise in the condition will take charge of the patient, calling him in for further tests and re-examining the records. They then present the case to their peers for a vote.
Neither medical body is in the business of declaring miracles, according to Michael Dulake, who belongs to the medical committee. That is left to the bishop of the patient's diocese, along with his own theological counsellors, who determine if the cure has any special spiritual significance for the beneficiary and his witnesses, reinforcing their faith in God. The doctors' job is merely to determine if a cure surpasses normal medical expectations in its speed or magnitude, in ways which cannot be accounted for by scientific understanding. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Question To The Catholics. by kevoh(m): 2:24pm On Jul 08, 2016 |
The Catholic Church strives to stay relevant with doctrines that stylishly agree with modern scientific theories rather than argue against evolution and big bang theories all day with the 6 day creation story like their protestant counterparts are doing and not making headway. Just checkout the comment from the Pope below, emphasis on the italics:
“Francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator – arguing instead that they “require it”.
“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said.He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment.
This is more like sitting on the fence in the matter. |

I've benefitted once from Ymodulus (and shinaf) importation group. This was back in 2014, just said I should commit 20k as a trial in case I got scammed but Ymodulus shocked me with his honesty with the amount of money (from a group of 40 or more people could be more) that was placed at his disposal to import wristwatches. I can't say the exact amount that was committed into Ymodulus (and shinaf) but trust me I am certain I was among the people who committed least amount into the business venture as some people would have been in the range 70k,80k or more but I made a hell lot of profit out of the sales and dashed some people as gifts. This guy despite younger than I am opened my eyes to business opportunities though I have not taken any serious move after then, thanks to salary job.
I have seen him help people, I have seen him drop his business experience selflessly something that some others would hide and package and then sell at outrageous amount to those who do not have the knowledge. I have seen him been of service to humanity at little or zero cost. That is being human and what we should strive for.
Now why my long epistle? I don't care about heaven, I am sure he does not care too but one thing I care about is this one life that we are actually living right now. This one life that we can actually confirm exist not some afterlife myth. This one life that we can actually be humane (not for some silly afterlife reward) but to make it an Utopia for those that are not as privileged as us. I am here right now, OP is here right now, Ymodulus is here right now, We can all help this world be a better place with our little actions rather than dream of some golden mansions somewhere in the sky why the people who really need our help are suffering and dying. |

Pavarottii: Keep on blaming governors that don't determine how much dey receive from the dullard himself buhari. Buhari is the lazy one that can't generate enuf money to disburse to them likee GEJ did. I've always blamed governors right from the time Amaechi and his co-conspiring governors stubbornly forced the government of the day to share our money. Nigerian governors are just lazy to think on ways of generating internal revenue to their respective state. If it is always about sharing of allocation generated by crude oil proceeds, then there's no point having gubernatorial elections to elect governors. Any figurehead can do the job of collecting state allocations and spending it on salary alone and complaining its not enough. |

joseph1013: SOUTH AFRICA TAKES AN IMPORTANT STEP
South Africa’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned the Christ Embassy church from airing its claims of faith healing following a complaint from the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC).
The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) advocates for increased access to treatment, care and support services for people living with HIV and campaigns to reduce new HIV infections.
TAC spokesperson Nathan Geffen said on Thursday that the claims were aired during the church’s regular early morning slot on e.tv on Sundays.
He said the church claimed to use faith healing to treat several diseases, including heart disease, and had run adverts on its website claiming to treat HIV/Aids.
“Quackery of this nature is not merely misleading. It is life-destroying,” he said.
He said TAC knew of a woman infected with extreme drug resistant TB who stopped taking her medication because she believed the church had cured her, and died, after infecting her own children with the disease.
Geffen also criticised e.tv for continuing to run Christ Embassy programming even after it was alerted to TAC’s concerns. @Joseph1013 seems this happened back in 2011 or so but still has more than enough juice to expose the dangers these so called faith healers pose. damogul: You are so wrong with this analogy.... . It is not an analogy. I am not doing any comparisons here,so saying it is a wrong analogy is out of place. My comments are the exact words typed by Seun himself. I am merely repeating what the man says he wants for his forum. Let's go over it once more: Seun: If I had my way, there would be no Islam section. It was created just to protect Nairaland members. I want different faiths to interact. Seun: Non-violent interactions. Seun: Due to the religious diversity of the Nairaland community, it's impossible to come up with policies that will make everyone happy. Point 1: We can't give everyone what they want, even if we try, because some people want the opposite of what some other people want. Point 2: We do not seek to favour or help or disfavour or harm any religion; our priority is the Nairaland community as a whole - what's best for Nairalanders as a group. If you have complaints about our policies, or questions about why we're doing this or that, please send your complaints to the supermods via the home page. We'll respond to your complaints as quickly as we can and update this thread with the answers to your frequently asked questions. damogul: how can Seun offer protection to Christians on an online forum? Why doesnt facebook or other social media create separate facebook pages specifically for muslims? If Seun feels there is a genuine threat to Christians here on nairaland then the easiest solution would have been to totally delete the islam section and ban all manner of islamic comments rather than doing so he rather supported and encouraged their action by providing them a legal platform to further perpetrate such vices. You are not Seun. You are not the owner of Nairaland. You were not there when threats were issued. Majority, do not know the types of violent threats issued, it could have been as worse as meeting the person physically. Nairaland(Anonymous platform) is not Facebook(identified users). The owner of NL does what he feels is SAFE for his NL business interests and every user which he has stated in the above quotes, if you do not like it simply move to another forum that is conducive for you, create yours or ****.Its that simple. damogul: Now no Chrstian is Privy to their posts or plots as the only way to have access is by first accepting to be a muslim and then by ensuring their mods are 100% muslim as well is dangerous if he genuinely felt they posed a threat because a true muslim would always support anything islamic even if it means death as long as the quran says so. At the bold, This is just unnecessary wailing. Seriously, what is there in accepting that declaration? Why are you guys so worked up at a mere pointless declaration that goes a away in a week?Does it in any way reduce your CHRISTIANITY? Except, you want to tell me that you truly believe you are a automatically turned a muslim once you click the button. The muslims themselves are already doing a good job of demarketing themselves with ISIS, Boko-Haram,under age kidnap e.t.c so what new stuff will I learn if I want to stroll to the Islamic section. Nada! |

Nairaland members including christians are already well protected through the isolation of Islam section. You probably are unaware that some violent threats were dished out by the regular violence mongers of the mohamedan faith back in the days when their faith was critiqued. |

There's no organisation. I don't believe the average atheist sees himself as categorised or tagged in one box the way muslims, christians and people of faith do in general. I see myself as human and the actions of any other human will be commended or reprimanded by me regardless of his belief or lack of.
And if I'm desperately in need of help, I simply ask my family, friends, colleagues or business partners whether atheists or not. I see it as human A helping human B |
