Christianity Etc › Re: Why True Christians Do Not Use The Cross In Worship by KGBEAST(m): 8:53pm On Nov 26, 2017 |
lovingJehovah: THE cross is loved and respected by millions of people. The Encyclopædia Britannica calls the cross “the principal symbol of the Christian religion.” Nevertheless, true Christians do not use the cross in worship. Why not?
An important reason is that Jesus Christ did not die on a cross. The Greek word generally translated “cross” is stau·rosʹ. It basically means “an upright pale or stake.” The Companion Bible points out: “[Stau·rosʹ] never means two pieces of timber placed across one another at any angle . . . There is nothing in the Greek of the [New Testament] even to imply two pieces of timber.”
In several texts, Bible writers use another word for the instrument of Jesus’ death. It is the Greek word xyʹlon. (Acts 5:30; 10:39; 13:29; Galatians 3:13; 1 Peter 2:24) This word simply means “timber” or “a stick, club, or tree.”
Explaining why a simple stake was often used for executions, the book Das Kreuz und die Kreuzigung (The Cross and the Crucifixion), by Hermann Fulda, states: “Trees were not everywhere available at the places chosen for public execution. So a simple beam was sunk into the ground. On this the outlaws, with hands raised upward and often also with their feet, were bound or nailed.”
The most convincing proof of all, however, comes from God’s Word. The apostle Paul says: “Christ purchased us, releasing us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse instead of us, because it is written: ‘Accursed is every man hung upon a stake [“a tree,” King James Version].’” (Galatians 3:13) Here Paul quotes Deuteronomy 21:22, 23, which clearly refers to a stake, not a cross. Since such a means of execution made the person “a curse,” it would not be proper for Christians to decorate their homes with images of Christ on a cross.
There is no evidence that for the first 300 years after Christ’s death, those claiming to be Christians used the cross in worship. In the fourth century, however, pagan Emperor Constantine became a convert to apostate Christianity and promoted the cross as its symbol. Whatever Constantine’s motives, the cross had nothing to do with Jesus Christ. The cross is, in fact, pagan in origin. The New Catholic Encyclopedia admits: “The cross is found in both pre-Christian and non-Christian cultures.” Various other authorities have linked the cross with nature worship and pagan sex rites.
Why, then, was this pagan symbol promoted? Apparently, to make it easier for pagans to accept “Christianity.” Nevertheless, devotion to any pagan symbol is clearly condemned by the Bible. (2 Corinthians 6:14-18) The Scriptures also forbid all forms of idolatry. (Exodus 20:4, 5; 1 Corinthians 10:14) With very good reason, therefore, true Christians do not use the cross in worship. * Jehovah's witness |

dominzy: Things You Didn’t Know About Those Commissioned Into the Nigerian Army
This article on the different commissioned officers in the Nigerian Army, will help clear the confusion lingering in the minds of civilians that want to take up a career in the Nigerian Army.
There are 5 types of commission in the Nigerian Army (NA) – Not Armed Forces.
They are:
1. Regular Combatant (RC). Training takes 5 years.
2. Short Service Combatant (SSC). Training takes 6 – 9 months.
3. Direct Regular Combatant (DRC). Now attained on conversion from DSSC.
4. Direct Short Service Combatant (DSSC). Training takes 6 – 9 months.
5. Executive Commission (EC). Training takes 2 – 3 months.
Details of such commissions are to be found in the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service (TACOS) for officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces but a summary goes thus: RC and SSC are combatants, trained to fight battles. Others are not meant to be combatants.
Both SSC and DSSC are of relatively short duration (not more than 12 years I think, excluding extension of service) and must convert to RC and DRC respectively to enjoy a longer career. Theoretically, RCs and DRCs can rise to become generals i.e Brigadier Generals, Major Generals etc. Remember the pyramid structure? The higher it gets, the smaller it becomes. In other words, many are called but only a few are chosen.
DRC’s are mainly professionals – surgeons, pharmacists, chaplains, surveyors etc. and are usually not found in the core combat arms of Infantry, Armour and Artillery but are to be found in the Army Engineers and Signals. EC’s are made up of former soldiers and do not usually exceed the rank of Major.
There are varying criteria for the various commissions. In reality, the advantage is more on the side of those who were originally RC,s than those who were originally SSC,s in terms of age, rank in the Nigerian army, numbers etc. However, anything can happen, for instance Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd.) rose to become Chief of Army Staff (COAS), even though he wasn’t originally an RC.
Although DRCs may never become COASs or General Officers Commanding (GOCs), they can apart from being Staff Officers also hold command posts in corps or services in which they predominate. These include Education, Medical and Finance among others.
Life in the Army here in Nigeria can be promising, particularly now that efforts have been made to consolidate emoluments, but achievement of success or wealth in the Army (here in Nigeria as well as is in other countries) is a product of motivation and determination. If you want to live well, you will. If you don’t, you won’t. The choice is really yours! For RC or DRC, minimum years of service is about 15 years and life as a cadet can be quite strenuous.
Generally, training is in the Infantry Corps Centre and School (ICCS), Jaji, Kaduna State. As for the DSSs and ECs, their training is usually less strenuous, not as in NDA where RCs and SSCs are trained. Cadets are usually humorously welcomed with the euphemism, “Unfortunate Nigerians, you will nearly die but you will not die!” But you should survive if you are physically fit after all, many have gone before you.
As a cadet, you are entitled to allowances which may not really cater for your family if you have one but could go a long way to help you sustain yourself.
If you wish to obtain more information on the Nigerian Army and the types of application forms available, you can check with the Army Public Relations Department in any military barracks near you.
For RC, you need at least 5 credits including English and Mathematics. For SSC, DRC and DSSC, you must be a graduate. Lawyers in the army are usually found in the Army Legal Services and the Military Police. They can also be found in lesser numbers in other corps and services.
As for your private practice, it all depends on what type but you won’t be expected to have your private practice as a lawyer alongside your military career.
Lastly, it is also noteworthy to say that the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) now offers some post-graduate courses for those in the military as well as for those not in the military.

circler: The Dollar vs. Bitcoin The U.S. government will pay $474 billion in interest on its debt this year. And that's with rates around 1%.
Total debt is now $19.845 trillion, and it just exceeded annual GDP. Their unfunded liabilities top $100 trillion.
I believe that eventually they're headed for a financial reset. I don't know exactly when or how. That will depend on the whims of bankers and politicians.
But I can't picture any long-term (20-year) scenario where the dollar does well. There appears to be zero chance of cutting federal spending anytime soon. It should have happened long ago, yet the spending seems destined to keep rising until the whole thing implodes. The $100 Retirement Plan
There's only one place where $10 could fund your entire retirement...
See for yourself here. whatsapp me, get my number from the signature. Eventually the interest on the debt will become unsustainable, and they'll have to start monetizing the debt on a massive scale. I'm not saying they'll default on the bonds. I'm simply questioning whether the dollars they're paid back with will have much value.
When this happens, they'll have an opportunity to choose a new system. I would vote for a cattle-based monetary system over the current one, personally.
But luckily we have bitcoin. The rise of cryptocurrencies like bitcoin may prove to be a catalyst that speeds the transition.
Reboot A system where the money supply can be hard-coded. One that doesn't require middlemen... and that vastly increases efficiency. It's no coincidence that bitcoin is rising now.
Bitcoin was launched amid bank bailouts in 2009 by a guy who thought the financial system was broken. Fortunately, Satoshi Nakamoto was a genius, and he created a brilliant piece of software.
It's growing exponentially now because people are looking at the current system, shaking their heads and then looking for something else.
And bitcoin is transforming the financial world with blockchain because the technology is superior.
People want this. They want a way to store value and trusted transactions that doesn't suck.
If this crazy monetary revolution does happen, don't you want to own at least a piece of it?
Cryptocurrency ownership rates are still well under 1%. If you do buy, you'll still be doing so extremely early.

fuckmeharder: Contrary to the pledge made in January that there would be no strike action in the near future, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced that it could embark on a strike again in July over the non-payment of N128 billion arrears of allowances..
ASUU National President Biodun Ogunyemi hinted at the strike action during a news conference held at the University of Abuja on Wednesday.
According to him, the federal government owes academic staff in federal universities unpaid allowances of nearly N128 billion. Mr. Ogunyemi said that the ASUU insisted on a framework for paying any part of the “Earned Academic Allowances” (EAA) arrears.
He said the union has decided that the particular issue of the EAA cannot be meaningfully addressed unless it is within an agreed framework.
“Hence the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ASUU resolved that all outstanding arrears of EAA should be paid not later than July 2017,” Mr. Ogunyemi stated.
The president also observed the non-release of the Operational Licensing of Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO).
Mr. Ogunyemi said that the company had met the minimum requirements for registration as a Pension Fund Administrator (PFA).
He said that the failure of PENCOM to release the operational license of NUPEMCO as a PFA had created the feeling of insecurity and loss of confidence among retirees in the system.
“The PFA cartel appears determined to abort the process of NUPEMCO licensing which started more than four years ago,” Mr. Ogunyemi said.. This is against the right to choose, he added.
The president noted that the 2013 memorandum of understanding signed with the federal government on funding for the revitalization of public universities had not been released as agreed.
“The MoU stipulates that N200 billion would be released in 2013 for massive injection of funds to reposition Nigerian public universities for global competition.
“Thereafter, N220 billion is to be released for subsequent five years, adding up to N1.3 trillion by 2018, not a single kobo has been released up till date,” Mr. Ogunyemi said.
He concluded by announcing that the union’s decision has been communicated to the government.
