"Come try, it tastes like biltong" said the grinning waiter at the Boma restaurant in Victoria Falls. It was the right enticement, I happen to absolutely love biltong. But chewing on a grub? As fortune would have it, I had been wanting to taste a Mopane worm (Imbrassia belina) for some time, and it looked like the time was now. The mopane worm is not actually a worm, but a caterpillar. It's a delicacy in some parts of Southern Africa and considered a bush food in others. But everyone agrees, it is highly nutritious and some regard it as truly delicious. What Did the Mopane Worm Taste Like? The Boma restaurant is a classic tourist venue set in the lovely grounds of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Dinner at the Boma is a legendary affair, with what looks like literally hundreds of local dishes served in buffet style, including impala terrine and sadza. A witchdoctor is available to tell your fortune by throwing his bones; dancers entertain with Shona and Ndebele acts; and then ... there's the vat of Mopane worms. The worms were fried with tomatoes, onions and garlic, none of which really disguised the black head from the grubby, grey body. I popped it into my mouth and began to chew, and chew, and chew, and chew. The sucker was difficult to swallow and I had forgotten my water. The waiter beamed, his teeth were almost blinding in the light of the big braai fire that was roasting a tasty looking warthog. The initial taste of the Mopane worm wasn't so bad, hidden by the garlic and onions. But as I continued to chew, the real flavor became unmasked and I detected a blend of earth, salt and drywall. It wasn't very good. I did manage to swallow it finally and because this was a touristy affair, I even got a certificate to prove it. I value this certificate above the one I got for bungee jumping off the Victoria Falls bridge. More Facts and Fascinating Information About the Mopane Worm Most people who enjoy Mopane worms obviously do not get certificates when they eat a solitary grub. Normally, you'll see huge bags of dried and/or smoked Mopane worms in local markets throughout rural Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and Namibia. They're greyish looking when dried (after their green guts have been squeezed out) and at first glance you might think they're a bean of some kind The Mopane worms like the Mopane tree, but they also feed off mango trees and other bushes. He doesnt deserve a secon or third chance. This man is going to marry his ex. Not you. Get out now and maintain your sanity. Nonsense. Hes playing you and your eyes are wide open. *singing Love is Blind by Eve...*" love is blind, and it'll take over your mind. What you think is love, is truly not you need to elevate and find ".. |
You've invested so much in this relationship. I really do feel for you. Either way it may not be a win-win situation cause what if she changes after graduating ...what will you do? And what if you leave her now... .after all the effort to make a better life for y'll as a couple, then you'll have to start over. ![]() Maybe you should have a serious talk with her and find out if she really loves you with or without your money. The last thing you need is a primadonna for the rest of your life. You'll be choosing a life of misery. Money's a serious issue and relationships based on money often end badly. ... Goodluck ![]() |
I often wear make up, but there's days when I don't feel like wearing make up. And because I use products that take care of the skin overnight I don't have a problem going to work without make up. The thing is one of the reasons women wear make up is self esteem issues and secondly at times your face may have spots cause by the scarring of pimples most people get during puberty. I used to just cover it all up until my boyfriend encouraged me to get a product that'll remove the spots so that I don't have to wear make up all the time. Point is there's often a reason why women end up looking like clowns... When you're a heavy make up user you reach a point where you feel "naked" without the make up. ![]() ![]() ![]() Different strokes for different folks. |
I know you meant well, but you need to rephrase your opening posts on threads. . . Use someone else as case study, else, it will keep looking as if you are blowing your trumpet even though you are not. . . Hey, you may be rich or whatever but on a faceless forum where you are not even bold enough to upload your own picture, no one gives a what? No one gives a fcck!
True that ![]() |
I feel that government positions should be treated the same way as in the business environment. If a manager / minister doesn't perform then he or she should placed on poor work performance management for 3 months until the situation changes, and if it doesn't then the disciplinary procedures should commence. How in the world would you give someone who cannot manage they're own currency to lead in international finance? That's like giving a failed president a position as the leader in a global organisation such as the UN...it doesn't make sense. Check the value of the Naira to any other currency..would you allow someone who's responsible for managing those economics to lead the world? ![]() |
Well let's hope they're marriage lasts. I have a lot of gay friends and they often attract lots of drama because they often over do the acting-like-a-woman thing , and as a result even their marriages don't make it past 5 yrs. Hope its different in Ghana. |
