Why would you as a sport minister expect a team that has won the competition several times, still Africa's top ranked team and one of the favorites to go in there without winning it again possibly. It still doesn't make any sense. And as a sport minister, this shouldn't be coming from him, it's better to keep shut than say some pretty darn things.

No one claimed preparation is overhyped, rather you misunderstood a simple argument, preparation is necessary for success but doesn't guarantee all. Prepare all you want with friendlies and early camping, without some above average players in your team(at least) you would go no where.

Yeah you are right, sadly we were outplayed in this particular tournament but it wasn't always like that. In 2014 and in the other tournaments we were hardly outplayed by any team even when we lost. Africa is tired of seeing Nigeria win this trophy, so we may no longer outplay teams like before. Nigeria has an intimidating head to head record over all the powerhouses except Equatorial Guinea, but Equatorial Guinea team is not as consistent as Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa.

Injury was a problem for her at Liverpool and at Arsenal she has made some good assists even without goals.

If only Equatorial Guinea was here. Same Equatorial Guinea(only team aside Nigeria to have won it) stopped us from going to Olympics last year.

Congrats to the Naija side.. I was really looking forward to some victory celebration for my team Cameroon. I left Limbe this morning for Yaounde in high spirits. It is a shame to have conceded a goal 5 minutes to the end of the match. Anyway conrgrats to the Lioness as well for putting on a good fight.

Yeah tough luck. Both teams have a lot of work to do though to rank amongst top teams in the world.

Our glory days of 1990 World Cup and Roger milla, Samuel eto'o have never needed a helping hand from Mr. Hayatou and we really don't care if he is car president or FIFA president. In 2000 we could have been worried abt the ref as well because the finals were in Lagos. Instead we focused on our game and carried the day.

Lol, excuses again. Cameroon like Ghana and south africa have been interested in the women's game for long but Nigeria has just been too strong for them. Now they have all improved which is a good thing for Naija. Kudos to you guys, we need more of this competition in Africa to shape the super falcons.

Yeah it's just Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa and Equatorial Guinea in that order. The rest are still behind somewhat. Even Kenya beat some teams in Africa 4-0, 11-0, 8-1, etc and so their fans thought they had arrived and were good enough to storm Africa. Kenya went to Spain and thrashed some Spanish and Portuguese club sides, but in the AWCON proper there was no hiding place for them. This simply means that CAF cannot increase the number of teams from 8 until many other teams in the continent come of age. It's gradually happening tho.

Yeah but if Nigeria is good enough they should be able to carry the day. Cameroon usually have problem with their final crosses, and like the falcons could be very scrappy with their passes. They are not as tough as you think, just that we have some glaring weaknesses.

yeah coach omagbemi needs to up her game tactics wise. it was just our girls sheer athleticism and superior talent that saw us through. cameroonians will be baying for blood but God pass them.

That girl has style and she even dresses like a model sometimes. She is a good footballer and even plays basketball. Ordega and oparanozie are my favorite falcons, on and off the pitch.

I think it's because the standard is still on the rise in some small African countries, for example Kenya beat Zanzibar 11-0 in a certain cecafa championship. Imagine a Zanzibar in the qualifiers, it would be a walk over for most teams. With the way things are going though, the next tournament or the one after would likely have 12 teams.

Lol l believe so too. It is nice seeing the rise of Kenya and Tanzania in African women football, it would go a long way to help our falcons if more African teams become tough. Kenya showed great promise just like Tanzania in 2010.

Yeah, remember just a few months ago this team held host Brazil to a goalless draw at the Rio Olympics and only lost narrowly(1-0) to eventual finalist Sweden, this is not a bad team at all, falcons are really tough. I also give kudos to Cameroon and even Ghana.

Ikidi in this tournament has helped us several times with her attacking runs, and her set piece is usually good, that's why the coach still has faith in her for that position l think. If only she could hold her defence line in same manner.

Francesca ordega and oparanozie are both okay, ordega is not only beautiful but sexy. But l get you, African girls who play soccer are generally not attractive compared to those in the U.S, Australia, and Brazil.

Defending champions Super Falcons of Nigeria were in fine form as they annihilated Mali 4-0 to set up a semi final cracker with South Africa in the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.


Goals from Ngozi Okobi, Faith Ikidi, Asisat Oshoala and substitute Desire Oparanozie proved to be enough for the highly fancied side to defeat the Kenyans in Limbe on Saturday.


Falcons coach Florence Omagbemi made two changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Ghana, with Okobi and Uchechi Sunday the anointed ones for Osarenoma Igbinovia and Chioma Wogu.


The seven-time African champions took the lead in the 3rd minute through Okobi who turned home a brilliant effort from outside the area.


Ugo Njoku was also the provider for Nigeria’s second three minutes later, picking out Faith Ikidi Michael who headed home from close range.


The Super Falcons tried to score more goals in the first stanza but their efforts wasn’t enough.


Back from recess, the champions led upfront by Oshoala pressed for more and were soon rewarded.


The Arsenal Ladies star finished off a sweet move to make the scoreline 3-0.


Second half substitute Oparanozie put the icing on the cake in the 88th minute with the 4th goal of the game and her first of the competition, leaving Omagbemi highly satisfied.


The result ensured that Nigeria finished top of the group with seven points. In the other match of the day, Ghana defeated Mali 3-1 to also end up with seven points but they were edged on goal difference by the Falcons.

I'm surprised, because with the game against Kenya, we should have tried out the likes of ijeoma obi and Gloria iroka to see if they are more creative midfielders or better passers of the ball than Rita and Halimatu, but they were not used at all. We need players who can put the ball at the feet of oshoala and ordega easily, and l hope oparanozie would no longer sit on the bench at this stage of the competition, anyway let's see how it goes. Thumbs up to the coaching crew for the job done on the team so far after that poor latter era of 2015.

Tell me what makes you believe the falcons cannot stand South Africa? Even Cameroonians are scared, how much more south africa? Or do you think south Africa's bayana bayana play better than our ladies?

That's exactly what I am talking about. she was by far the outstanding Super Falcon in the World Cup.

The only good thing she did yesterday was that goal.

I just wish replicates that form in this tournament.

After the world cup, okobi was no longer herself really and even struggled in Washington spirits in the NWSL( ordega's club) before going over to Sweden. The good thing about okobi though is that she's a very good passer of the ball, she may have lost everything but definitely not her vision. Though Rita is more experienced and active, l still prefer okobi slightly, but then having any of them on the pitch is still fine by me.
