DDC Machines - Zinox Deploys 74 Workers to INEC

Mr. Echika Ezuka, the deployment of 74 supporting staff to aid INEC was simply an act of patriotism as that was not part of the contract to supply 80,000 DDC machines which was completed mid-last week.

He explained that Zinox had displayed two IT engineers for each of the 36 States and Abuja.
I can bet "Zinox Engineers" are mostly Nigerian University graduates and former corpers?

Now INEC will need their help to fix the voting machine.

I still want that silly INEC spokesman flogged, publicly!

Eko Ile, nice one. I think they should get rid of that red fence and just leave that space
Your head is surely screwed on right.

It will look better w/o the fence, more welcoming more accessible. I'll like to see the same done to those highway gardens, remove the obstruction so drivers and pedestrians can enjoy the view, there is no point caging beauty. (I know litter can be an issue sometimes, fine them!) Gotta give it to Fashola and Lagos though, they are putting in the efforts.

SMH @ Beaf and his "bullying". Walahi, you'll owe the whole "interweb" an apology after this election is over.

@Beaf, cjfavour is obviously disappointed in oga GEJ and his PDP government. As a Nigerian, I understand his concerns. It will be great if you can answer his questions.

Which one of those things did GEJ/ Yar'adua do? Which one did GEJ/PDP fix after Yar'adua?  It's unfair to expect cjfavour and millions like him to suspend disbelief and assume PDP will fix these things if elected again. Except if you've concluded his concerns don't matter and you'll win anyway.

BTW, what's this transparent PDP convention business I keep reading about? Are we so forgetful?

I recall watching the same convention last time. I remember watching the one that gave us OBJ, it was broadcasted live on AIT and NTA too, all into the wee hours of the morning right? we all counted the votes together then and the gullible praised the whole "transparent" show.

I guess the FB, NL and twitter commentaries made this one more glamorous for those who were not Naija conscious last time. I saw nothing new, just more of the same corrupt usurpers smiling behind oga Jonathan.

@isale_gan Yes the fight continues for the next election season.

As to the dual citizen thing, IMO, the more foreign passports you aquire the better your profile becomes among the clueless, that's how much some of our people love everything foreign. I won't be surprised if there are plenty dual citizens in the National Assembly.

I'm not sure about Remote learning at Nigerian Schools, but goodluck with the other things.
It was also discussed here, but no new updates: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=225044.msg7453827#msg7453827

This has been of greater concern to me at this election more than any other[.  Talked to my dad about it the other day.  He suggests continuing to harangue the Nigerian embassies and consulates wherever we are.  Even if it's just to call and ask them for updates, or the same questions all the time.  "How far with the legislation?" "Who's holding it up?" "For what reason," "What about the other countries," etc.

The Nigerian Consulate in my area is so close it's actually walking distance.  Gonna be on a first name basis. . .    wink
Unfortunately there is no way Nigerians-living-abroad can vote in this 2011 election. They fought the good fight very early and lost.

I agree with calling the embassy for updates, even if it's just to be a pest. Afterall, they do little to no work anyway, working for 4 hours/day and closing shop before lunch and shyyte undecided

IMO, The whole house of Assembly is guilty, except for a few representatives like Abike Dabiri (Lagos, ACN). They all failed to do their job.

Reasons  given:
The hopes of Nigerians abroad to vote in the country’s next general election were dashed yesterday as the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution said there is no immediate plan for that because of the enormous resources involved.

The chairman of the committee, Usman Bayero Nafada, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday.,

Mr. Nafada, who spoke at a press conference to review the activities of the committee whose report was considered on Tuesday, said the committee did the cost implication of allowing Nigerians in Diaspora to vote in next year’s election and subsequent ones and discovered that it would surpass the funds needed to conduct elections locally.

Nigerians in the Diaspora are not in one particular country, they are spread all over the world. And you cannot say because you have a large number in country A, you cannot say country A should vote and deny those in other countries from voting. And if you do the cost analysis, you will discover that it is highly expensive,” Mr. Nafada, who is also the deputy speaker of the House, said.

Stressing that the voting system is still manual, Mr. Nafada, however, said that the issue may be considered in future when voting is done electronically, during which, he remarked, the cost may be reduced.

http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/5561438-147/nigerians_in_diaspora_wont_vote_in.csp
Isale_gan, you probably know a lot about the US voting process, is it all Electronic?

Don't they have write in candidates and mail-in/manual voting?

Soldiers stationed outside the country vote, don't they?

Civilians in some States can choose to mail in their vote, right?

Also, note that Nigerians-abroad are expected to register and renew passports manually and through the mail, ain't they?

They send those document manually don't they? and recently they even had to travel to hub cities in their various countries to get the new e-passports, right?

So, you can see that the arguement used by that cluless chop-till-i-quench looter is just that; clueless.

Other countries:

Filipinos-abroad voted in their election; http://news.feetintwoworlds.org/2010/05/05/immigrant-filipinos-pray-for-peaceful-elections/

As I mentioned earlier Guineans voted: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/05/far-from-home-guineans-cast-their-vote/

There are several others, I used those countries as examples because one(Philipines) is a highly populated country with similar political issues as Nigeria and a very large diapora population. The other is a "poor" African country.

I see no reason why my representatives failed to do it,  except for their cluelessness and incompetence.

Isale, that is why we need folks like you to come back to Naija and put your knowledge to work, contest for office and chase these laggards out, we will ask Fstranger for permission cheesy

Don't ask me about my own efforts, I'm an internet warrior! a la Pat Utomi. (someone's gotta fight the cyber wars)    wink

People care if the schools are open. When a call comes from the high authorities that people INCONVENIENCE themselves in this way, they like to know that they are not being played for fools. Many of these parents have no babysitters to look after there kids and many have had to spend more as a result of the closure believing it is for the greater good. When they find out that even those calling for this break in their schedule do not respect their own ordinances, it is signs that these leaders do not respect them.

Either you are really ignorant or you are desperately trying to win one for team Goodluck here. What the heck? If you need me to be a spectator for you, at least endeavor to come up with more intelligent rebuttals than the trash you keep posting just cause you DESPERATELY want to win a brownie point for team GOODLUCK, which I think is absurd!

Politics › Re: Corps Members Disappointed Us – Inec by Kilode1: 4:56pm On Jan 18, 2011
As the voters’ registration continued on its fumbling note into day three yesterday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), attributed the inefficiency to low knowledge of the corps members who were deployed as registration officers. The Commission, while apologising to members of the public for the delay and general inadequacies attending the exercise across the federation, said “we are sorry but we will continue to improve.”

Featuring on a political programme, “Focus Nigeria”, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Publicity, Prince Solomon Soyebi, lamented that the commission was not happy with the development but explained that the commission took it for granted that the corps members would know the basic operations of a computer, a belief, he said, turned out to be misplaced.
So the best Papa INEC can do is to throw his children under the bus? shocked
