Nairaland / General / 30 Foreign Countries Where Nigerian Languages Are Spoken by KingOdart(m): 11:59am On Sep 22, 2020 |
We take a look at the international countries where the three major indigenous languages can actually come in handy. -Nigeria has three major languages - Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. - Over the years, these three have spread to several places around the world. -These countries include Brazil, Sudan, United States, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. Nigeria is a diverse place filled with various tribal groups and indigenous languages. Buzz Nigeria reports that this West African country holds the third position on the list of nations with the most languages. These include Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. Over the years, these languages have managed to travel outside the country. This is due to several reasons like the trans-Atlantic slave trade, immigration, and cattle grazing. As a result of these factors, languages that were primarily spoken by just Nigerians are now being spoken in communities all over the world. Here are all the foreign countries where Nigerian languages are spoken: Yoruba - Togo Benin Republic Sierra Leone Liberia Ghana Gambia North America UK Europe The Caribbean Islands Brazil According to Wikipedia, Yoruba is the most widely spoken language outside Nigeria and Africa. It's been estimated that there are over 40 million Yoruba primary and secondary language speakers across the globe. These Yoruba speakers are found in Togo and Benin Republic. Smaller Yoruba-speaking communities are located in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ghana and Gambia. It has also spread to North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Caribbean Islands and Brazil where it is alleged that Yoruba could become one of their official languages. Hausa - Sudan Benin Burkina Faso Cameroon Central African Republic Chad Congo Eritrea Ghana Niger Togo This is one of the major languages of Nigeria where it is spoken as a first language by an estimated 30+ million people. Outside the country, the SOAS University of London says it can be heard among Muslim scholars, diaspora communities of traders and the Blue Nile Province of Sudan. About World Languages adds that it is also spoken in Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Eritrea, Ghana, Niger and Togo. According to Fluentin3months, there are 150 million Hausa speakers worldwide making it the 11th most spoken language across the globe. Igbo United States Cuba Dominican Republic Jamaica Belize Barbados Bahamas Equatorial Guinea In Nigeria, it has been reported that this language is spoken by over 40 million people. It managed to spread overseas years ago as enslaved Igbo people were traded throughout various slave colonies. These colonies were in the United States, Cuba, The Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Belize, Barbados, and the Bahamas. Apart from these countries, Igbo is also spoken in Equatorial Guinea where it is regarded as a minority language. Overall, people who speak this language reportedly make up 0.36% of the world population. https://www.pulse.ng/bi/lifestyle/30-foreign-countries-where-nigerian-languages-are-spoken/wcqbeyt Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44

Culture / Re: Female Inheritance: Supreme Court, Igbo Culture In Head-on Collision by KingOdart(m): 11:04am On Sep 08, 2020 |
LaboPolitics: Yoruba have had a female Ooni and Alaafin in the past. And Yoruba are not discriminating against their females from attaining those position but a king suppose to be a male character just like in most part of the world. Same way it is difficult for a woman to become Nigerian president, same way it is difficult for a woman to become USA president and most part of the world. That's also same way it is difficult for a woman to attain those position in Yoruba Land Yoruba women are not ban from those positions because we have had female monarchs in the past but it is just difficult to find a woman that have the leadership qualities for the position. Christianity and Islam is one of the major reasons stopping women from competing for those positions in Yoruba Land. If a woman feel cheated she can take it to the court to fight for her right, there is no law that ban a woman from becoming a king in Yoruba Land. 1 Like

This food sharing was the one the governor said he would implement last week as part of the measures to curb the hunger in the state and he finally implemented it which prove Sanwo Olu is a man of his words. When did Abia Government distribute foodstuffs like Lagos did some weeks back? Since you want to compare Abia to Lagos 1 Like |

Nairaland / General / China Angrily Reacts After Germany Sends N62 Trillion Bill For COVID-19 Damages by KingOdart(m): 3:47am On Apr 21, 2020 |
- China has reacted in anger after Germany sent it a bill of N62 trillion (£130 billion) for damages resulting from the outbreak of the coronavirus - The act follows similar condemnations from the United Kingdom (UK), France and the United States of America (USA) - Bild, a German newspaper, which prepared the bill, claimed that Beijing hid details of the virus from the rest of the world China has reacted in anger after Germany prepared and sent a N62 trillion (£130 billion) invoice for damages resulting from the coronavirus outbreak. Germany’s move comes after the United Kingdom (UK), France and the United States of America (USA) descended on the Asian nation for its role in the global pandemic. Legit.ng has learned that the bill was prepared by Bild, a major newspaper, amid reports that Beijing hid the true details of the coronavirus from the rest of the world. Bild’s list includes a €27 billion charge for lost tourism revenue, up to €7.2 billion for the German film industry, a million euros an hour for German airline Lufthansa and €50 billion for German small businesses. It added that this amounts to €1,784 (£1,550) per person if Germany's GDP falls by 4.2%, under the title "What China owes us." This comes as rumours of an intentional spread continue to spread all over the world and the source of the outbreak remains a mystery. www.legit.ng/amp/1322523-covid-19-china-angrily-reacts-germany-sends-n62-trillion-bill-damages.html Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44 |

Redcrafton: It seem you lost your sense out of desperation to the extent you even bring churches into the discussion. How many Igbo pastors open their churches in South West? And how many churches founded by Igbo can you even list like you listed those founded by Yoruba? Firstly we are not the ones trooping to South East to open vulcanizing shops like Igbo troop to our region to opens 2 by 2 shops for their businesses, we opens the shops in our region and most of the customers are also Yorubas from our region. Lastly churches are religious institutions not business institutions unless you want to call churches business institutions lol. The churches you listed their names majority of their members are also Yoruba but you make it seem as if Yoruba don't go to those churches and it is only Igbo that pay their tithes and offerings lol. 2 Likes |

Redcrafton: Your IT company employs more Yoruba than Igbo because Yoruba dominate IT in Nigeria and an IT company is different from a typical 2 by 2 shops that most Igbo usually opens in South West and I am sure there are also Yoruba companies and establishment that also employs Igbo. I have spent some time in all the six states in South West and I know what I am saying, you can hardly see a Yoruba work in the 2 by 2 shops most Igbo usually opens in South West. All we does is patronize your businesses but some stupid one among you comes online to spit trash that they are feeding their forefathers, when in reality we are the one feeding you by patronizing your businesses. 3 Likes |

Without South West to troop to Igbo would have been extinct because your land is Barren. 3 Likes |

Nairaland / General / IPOB Kicks Against 5G Network In Anambra, As Isuofia Youths Protest by KingOdart(m): 6:26pm On Apr 19, 2020 |
Isuofia youths in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State, yesterday, protested the laying of cables suspected to be for the controversial 5G mobile network in their community. The protest by the youths of Isuofia, coincides with an allegation Thursday night by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, that there was ongoing laying of 5G technology network cables in Anambra State as people are forced by the government to observe stay-at-home to avoid spread of coronavirus. An eyewitness from Isuofia, who did not want his name mentioned, said “the youths confronted the firm laying the cables accusing them of laying 5G technology network cables in their community to put their lives in danger, but the company whose identity is yet to be known, claimed that it was rather 4G technology network cable.” However, the protesting youths were said to have insisted that they must stop work and leave the community for peace to reign. Contacted on the development, the traditional minister (Onowu) of Isuofia community, Chief Ndubisi Osele, said “some miscreants misinformed the youths in the community that 5G technology network is being installed in the community.” According to him, “what is being laid under the ground is fiber cables not 5G network, 5G technology network is a band placed on the mast, it is not laid under the ground. We are having a meeting now to resolve the matter and I will like you to call me back in an hour’s time, so that you will get the decision of the community.” Kanu had in his statement Thursday night said: “As the lockdown against the spread of coronavirus is going on everywhere even in Anambra State, they are busy installing 5G technology network cables that weakens the immune system of people. People have been asking what is the connection between 5G technology network and coronavirus. “The correlation is this, 5G technology network weakens the immune system that allows viruses and even common cold to invade human system like the coronavirus which is a cold virus. What do we need 5G technology network for? If 5G were to be beneficial, will they bring it to our Biafra land? That is the question you should ask yourself first. www.sunnewsonline.com/ipob-kicks-against-5g-network-in-anambra-as-isuofia-youths-protest/amp/ Cc Lalasticlala Mynd44 Seun
