[color=Blue]The only issue with water ingress when an engine is steam cleaned, is compromised electrical connectors. If they have been "modified", then these connectors won't be water proof. Water in such areas can cause short circuits, partial or total.

Alternators are seldom waterproof, and are designed to operate even if water gets in under normal operation conditions. When driving in pouring rain, the engine bay does get wet, through the front grille, as well as from underneath the car. The fan also throws water over all components, including the alternator, ignition coil etc. If this will put a car out of action, then there's a problem.

Even with my mom's old Peugeot 504 GL, I washed the engine regularly with a hose and stiff brush, the only vulnerable area was the distributor, which I protected with a plastic carrier bag. This car never had any issues stemming from regular engine washing, and the engine bay looked mint. We lived in Benin City, with it's red dust, so I washed the engine and the bay once a very 2 weeks.

My Audi A4 Quattro engine is steam cleaned / pressure washed on a regular basis, I have been doing this for over 20 years, and I'm yet to suffer any catastrophic failure. On occasion, I have had a misfire, which has cleared itself as the engine warmed up, but this was in the early days. Now I run the engine till it's warm, then proceed to steam clean it while it's still running. Which is a similar condition to driving in heavy rain conditions.[/color]

Your car had multiple codes, and that 1diot said your car needs spiritual healing or something, then I said no, I believe the problems is a vacuum leak, then both he and his 1diotic friends went berserk, don't listen to them, what I understand is the these may be parts dealers, and they want you to buy parts from them, even without testing if it's really the part that is bad or another thing that the ECU it reacting to so throwing codes, that sometimes may throw you off if you are not careful, then I said if it were me who is diagnosing your car I will check for vacuum leaks first, using to scan tool, the computer is programmed in a way that it reacts in a certain way in a given situation, so if you know what you are doing or how it works you can easily know what is going wrong, or what the computer is reacting to, it takes just a few seconds , if you find nothing there you move to another thing, then they just hanged their throaght on knock sensor, forgetting that you said you car was consumming too much fuel,
You see, I would ask, why is this car guzzling fuel like this? okay here is a list of things that can cause it.
Vacuum leak (for me easiest to check)
leaky injectors
bad MAF
Then check these three, if nothing then I am missing something, and what can that be? Then I go into research
but they want you to go and buy and make. them rich, and I am an obstacle to it then they turn on me.

lol guy some people do use water, but it works in same theory as you use water to check air leak on a tyre tube when you imerse it o n soup water, U know how we dey do bike tube back in the days, but in this case U just spray soapy water o n the suspected areas and watch it bubble, but for me that's hard work.So its grandfather method lol probably B4 the smoke test.

I think you should get more than 50m of depth there, but be careful o cos there are lots of things to consider which you don't know.
