Bankalert: Toyota camry 08
Hi guy, i am in Abuja...my car battery keeps draining. I bought the battery three months ago. I cant seem to say what is causing the drain. My electrician checked it too but could not solve it.
I dont know if its alternator. I had replaced the battery because of the same issue some months back. The alternator produces about 13.4 voltage. I am having to jumpstart the car more these days. The car is a 2008 toyota camry.
I have also learnt online it could be a parasitic draw. But i can see any lights on that could be causing it. I really dont know what is the problem.
I am torn between replacing the alternator and or the battery which be any of the cause of the problem.
Also, i recently washed the car engine about a week ago Before this problem started. I think the guy did a bad job, Because i had several issues like replacing fan engine and cleaning the carburetor.
The car before now usually stalls on idle say in traffic one in a while. I didnt think it was a serious issue since it starts immediately.
Please i need help on this or a referral to a good electrician in Abuja or Lugbe specifically who can diagnose the issue. 07034581213 |

nitt: Hi, I ran a scan on my 2005 4cylinder accord and these codes came up.
P1157 - Manufacturer Control P0011 - Camshaft Position Timing Over - Advanced or System Performance Bank 1 P0134 - O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity detected Bank 1 Sensor 1 P0141 - O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2
The symptoms noticed are; 1. poor fuel economy. 2. leaking engine oil via the oil solenoid @ passenger side of engine 3. Random over cranking/hard-starting when starting engine. 4. Delayed gear shifts while driving.
Work done so far; 1. For P0011 code, We tried to stop the oil leak, cleaned the oil switch, reinstalled & the mechanic adjusted the timing but this just reduced the oil leak & cleared the code but it returned after short trip.
2. For the P0141 code, I bought an o2 spacer from a nairalander in Lagos, it was sent down to my location, was installed by the panelbeater, cleared the code but code returnned after short trip.
3. For the P0134 code, I checked the Sensor it is still connected.
4. For the P1157 code, I think it is connected to the other codes but not sure.
Kindly advise further.

Heavenlybang, nurey, Diportivo, there you have it. It’s one of the many reasons why cars are so so expensive in Nigeria. Prearranged agreement to have cuts for long chain connections of car agents and dealers. This will naturally mean everybody who has a link in this chain has an interest in it thereof and this will in-turn drive the price up considerably. I’m not concerned with your counter claims or argument but this right here is part of what gets an average Nigerian prospective car buyer frustrated. |

papiTwist: Good day good people of Nairaland,
My 2012 Jeep Wrangler had an engine problem. It was throwing code P06DD (Engine oil pressure circuit performance problem) with a ticking sound on the engine top. It sometimes refused to accelerate past 3500RPM, while it moves perfectly other times.
After several mechanical interventions including changing of oil pump, oil cooler, tapet valve and rocker arm, the engine didn’t get so much better.
We decided to get a tokumbo engine which was mounted yesterday. The new engine accelerates well, however it has a small ticking sound coming from the right top of the engine.
When I complained about the ticking sound, the mechanic and other people around tried to convince me that the engine may have been parked for long, that the sound will clear when I drive the car and oil circulates well.
I have driven the car yesterday and today, but the ticking sound is still there. Should I start pushing for am engine change or will the sound eventually clear?
Please people with experience of tokumbo engine I need help. Your mechanic should call the attention of the engine seller to this ticking sound immediately since he sold the engine to your mechanic. Let him call his mechanic to check the engine and revert back, but if they want to open and repair the engine, disagree to such, and insist on an outright replacement. |

Asquare84: good evening all, my car smoke after parking and sometimes after accelerating in a traffic hold up, the car also start having low RPM. i noticed the smoke after my mechanic services the car last two month. my question is could my mechanic used a fake engine oil to service the car thereby resulting in the smoke and secondly, another mechanic advised me that i should change the valve seal, change top gasket and grind the top cylinder and the car will be fine. i am just confused on what to do now. experience peeps what your take on this. the car is Mercedes e320, 2004 model. Have someone else who’s very experienced in Mercedes repairs physically examine the car very carefully then give a recommendation. I can’t recommend what you should do because physical inspection and diagnosis isn’t possible remotely. |

Shinieder17: Thanks for your response boss.
The exact compressor was fixed, my previous car had the same engine as this one and the same compressor I changed that with is the one I bought for this one too. I have bought a new throttle body, settled for this after changing 5 and it's still the same issue..
I don't know if there's anything else I can have them check for me. Plus I mentioned the car was converted to automatic transmission, I tried different places to scan it to know what the problem is but the scanners didn't communicate with the ECU at all. This is where your challenge lies, it’s either you keep managing it as it is, you butcher it, or you go thru the hassle of getting an automatic Yaris wiring loom for this car. This last step is a very long uncertain journey |

Shinieder17: Hello,
I don't know if this thread is still active but I'll give it a try. So I just bought a 2008 Toyota Yaris but unfortunately I didn't know it was converted from manual to automatic transmission. AC wasn't working when I bought it (compressor issue) so I fixed that. I noticed that since I fixed the AC, the car idles well in park or neutral with or without AC but vibrates the moment I put it on drive and AC is on. I have changed the throttle body but still persists. I decided to go scan it but unfortunately it didn't communicate with the OBD readers used. Has anyone had a similar case or any suggestions on what could be done? I'll really appreciate your contributions. Thank you. Get the right compressor meant for the car, you may also have to check your throttlebody and IACV. |

How best should engine oil shortage issue with Toyota Camry 07 be managed? *Is it by topping the oil whenever the level goes down and check engine light comes on? * Is it to change engine oil completely when the bolded above occurs?
Kindly help. Change to thicker oil weight if you’re using lighter oil weight, or keep checking and topping frequently, if you want to take it a step further, get the pistons rings, PCV valve and valve stem seal replaced or buy a tokunbo Japanese Camry engine. |

after reading, it showed "solar noise". was quite surprised it wasn't a code.
also another twist now is that coupled with the previous issue, currently, it doesn't change gear.
it just remains at gear 1.

holysaint1: Wow.. What a community.
Pls a car of ours is giving us a serious issue. Toyota Corolla. Its driving well. But has refused to reverse when initiated with the gear. You match throttle but it just keeps revving without any backward movement.
Mechanics have tried but i find it hard to trust all these kazeems... blame that on past experience.
Although we intend selling it but a second thought is telling me to scan the car and see what the real issue might be.
But pls if anyone here has previously encountered this issue, or you have any idea as to what the actual issue might be, pls kindly help before i make any drastic decision.
Thanks in anticipation What year is the Corolla? Ever tried scanning it and also checking under the transmission sump to observe if it has an impact or even to check the colour and smell of the transmission fluid? |
