A retreat is a retreat. The optic of this war us very bad for Russia. This war only shows that Russia is not the super power they claim to be. They have a vast array of weapons but they have shown very poor strategic capacity.

Whatever he claims are now his objective are simply after the fact. you don't send thousands of troops and hardware deep into a foreign country only to have them retreat after taking unexpected losses and try to hide under a negotiations point. The position from Ukraine is retreat then we proceed with talks. Missiles can only do so much damage but then that's it.

Putin has also seen that Western defence weapons are extremely effective and that is without the big guns yet. His crase never reach.

The west always play the long game. Everything he opposed against NATO and the west is exactly what he is getting. NOW "NATO" is poised near him. What stops Ukraine from building a massive military after this. And the new arms race that has begun.
Russia will be outspent out developed and worn out due to sanctions. The gang up already going on will only grow.
He has exposed himself and Russia to Western manipulation. It will be hard to get out of this. Russia may form alliances with the likes of Iran,china, Syria etc but they are already countries very prone to sanctions and have no sure footing or long term strategic influence.

My take is that you focus on getting your life back on track. At this time I feel you should let off on the children for now and take periodic visits if you are allowed to.
