@Must a far his big kwashioko belly begging for food. There are some historical facts in life that one cannot distort. Its a fact that six million Jews in during the 2nd world war. Its a fact a million Biafran kids suffered Kwasikor just after the war. I do not know how old Ojo Mad is, but if he was between the ages of 5 and 13 then there is a very high likelyhood that he might be one of the 1 million kids with Kwasikor. War is no child's play u see it on TV everyday in sudan and places like that. |
And what is there not to respect people? Are they your heroes? Dont u respect your dad, Is your father your hero- If u see your pap just knack am for head ![]() |
Knowall i like you because you are not a closet tribalist There is nothing tribalistic about it if a grown up man has cock up we should let him know. You think Yardua as he is the president of Nigeria will disrespect Babangida or even Buhari. |
@Must a far you say this as fact, can you please show proof of this 'fact' of yours? Are you not an African man we respect our elders in Africa, Ojo Maduake would have been in primary school when the Ambassodor was the Govenor of Western State and that calls for respect no matter how u look at it. |
I am 100% sure when the ambassodor in question was the Governor of Western State Ojo Maduaeke would have been in one of those refugee camps in Biafra with his big Kwasioko belly begging for food. The man is total disgrace. |
How he became our foreign minister amazes me. Foreign Ministry is about diplomacy, If he cannot get along with one of his Ambasssdors that says a lot about him. Whether the Ambassodor is right or wrong he should be able to handle the situation like a true diplomat. Not sending an attached letter written to you to the presidency. That act is Childish to say the least. That man needs to grow up some primary 5 kids have more diplomatic tact than that minister we have. |
@Debosky The final solution to prevent ocean surges at the bar beach was conceptualised and was completed. wasn't it? When I was in Naija in March 2007 bar beach over flow abi e get another bar beach we de talk about here. Nothing has been conceptualise neither has anything been completed, the only thing that has been completed is a healthy bank balance for Tinunbu. |
@KunleOshob To be fair to Tinunbu BRT Buses were his idea, and he had already bought the buses from Brazil, was about to embark on the bus route thing when he handed over to Fashola. Fashola now tackled it as if his life depended and brought it to fruition. it took Tinunbu 7 1/2 years to come up with a brilliant Idea. I will have to agree with u that is a moumental failure in anybody's book. Fashola should not let the fire in him die or else those ideas of his will die. |
maybe you should read more and attack less. it was during tinubus admin that the bar beach solution was finally executed Bar beach that has been going on since militatry regime b4 I left Niaja more than 15 years ago that project has already started. |
@Debosky, were initially conceptualised during the Tinubu administration. Fashola is continuing in line with the initial vision and shows you what can be achieved with continuity in government. Na conceptualizing we want chop. Fashola should get his hand dirty and start digging and laying those tracks for his light rail I read somewhere that he wants that project up and running by 2011, otherwise it will be one of those conceptualise theories that will never see the light of day like Jakande's lagos metroline. Come to think of it are you seriously saying 8 years of Tinubu was spent conceptualising, even a lazy dreamer can do that. |
Eko Atlantic City will not happen. Fashola wants to do all these things in 4 or maybe 8 years 1. Eko Atalntic City 2. Lekki Free trade zone incorpoating an airport in Lekki 3. 10 LANE Motorway to Badary so that development would move from the Lekki corridor to the Badagry corridor. 4. 4th Mainland Bridge 5. 2 Light rail blue and red line 6. New Lekki City The man should just do one and leave the rest, he has not got the time to do all these projects and I doubt if he has the money, which means all these projects might be a pipe dream. |
@JJYou nigeria would have been better with ibo man at the helm. too many lazy people have ruled us. Since the new civilian dispensation tell me one Igbo Governor that is worthy of the presidency, Sam Egwu embezzled 80 bIllion out of 150 billion, tell me one none. When u trust people with little and they perform then you can trust them with more. Look at the List of Archeivers Yardua - Left enough money in the goverment coffers. Donaald Duke - Even if he embezzled any money we are all living witness of what he built in Cross River State. Fashola - His Acheivement is there for all to see. I will not support any of the Yoruba Governor for presidency becos they have not done anything - the likes like Akala , Gbenga Daniel, Oni, or Agagu. The bottom line is when you are given a little job and you perform people will support u. Souldo did a good job at CBN and will definately get my vote. It is not about tribalism but about performance. |
Basically Igbos are the spare parts seller all over Naija, Hausas are the bureaux Change dealers, and unfortunately Yorubas are the Taxi drivers even for abroad na Yoruba cab drivers plenty pass dem swear for us we know see better job . On the other hand Igbos like that parapo thing (togetherness) my brothers freind is my brother. The only Igbo man I will support for president is Soludo and I go dey watch am with one eye make e no go sell me. |
Another Internationalised Naija word Akátá is a word derived from the Yoruba people of West Africa and it simply means 'fox'. It is widely used loosely by African immigrants to the United States to describe African Americans and their descendants, and over time it has come to have derogatory connotations due to tensions between African immigrants and African Americans. I can remember Wesley Snipes telling 2 Naija guys in that movie cant remember the name " cut out all that Akata shit " |
Another word the International community is aware of is " Mugu " Dictionary definition of “mugu” mugun. a fool; (hence) a person who falls for a scam. Subjects: Nigeria, Crime & Prisons, Derogatory Editorial Note: Outside of Nigeria, this term has become associated with the victims of the advance fee, 419, or money-cleaning scams. A similar term is magha. |
Another word Naija has given the International Comunity is " 419 " The 419 scam originated in the early 1980s as the oil-based Nigerian economy declined. Several unemployed university students first used this scam as a means of manipulating business visitors interested in shady deals in the Nigerian oil sector before targeting businessmen in the west, and later the wider population. Scammers in the early-to-mid 1990s targeted companies, sending scam messages via letter,[4] fax, or Telex.[5] The spread of email and easy access to email-harvesting software made the cost of sending scam letters through the Internet low. In the 2000s, the 419 scam has spurred imitations from other locations in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe, and, more recently, from North America, Western Europe (mainly UK), and Australia. The number "419" refers to the article of the Nigerian Criminal Code (part of Chapter 38: "Obtaining Property by false pretences; Cheating" dealing with fraud.[6] The American Dialect Society has traced the term "419 fraud" back to 1992.[7 |
Nigeria's 'Baba-go-slow' one year on By Andrew Walker BBC News, Abuja Even oyinbos are using Nigeria words to describe our president Mr Yar'Adua vowed to carry out reforms Some critics of Umaru Yar'Adua have given the Nigerian president a new nickname: "Baba-go-slow". Most people called his predecessor Olusegun Obasanjo "Baba" - in reference to his fatherly style of governing. Mr Yar'Adua has inherited a less-than respectful name after a year of seemingly little progress. But is that really fair? When he came to power in a flawed election last year, President Yar'Adua promised reforms, and lots of them. The electoral system would be revolutionised, peace would be sought in the oil-rich Niger Delta, the murky oil industry would be reformed as well as the woefully inadequate power industry. |
Courtesy of Wikipedia Area boys (also known as Agberos)[1] are loosely organized gangs of street children and teenagers, composed mostly of males (but with a few females), who roam the streets of Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. They extort money from passers-by, sell illegal drugs, act as informal security guards, and perform other "odd jobs" in return for compensation.[2] The groups are based in Lagos Island, a Local Government Area in Lagos |
Nigeria word wahala now internationalised, see extract of how an English lady is using the word. What other Nigerian word is also popular, I think go-slow is another one, and another one is area boys, can you think of others What's 'Wahala'? Just watching or rather listening to Call my Bluff on BBC 1 this morning. The word Wahala pricked my ears - surprised it's now in the dictionary. It's one of those convenient words that saves a lot of talking - can be used on it's own as a slang or exclamation - as a verb, noun, adjective etc - I still use it without thinking. Originally a Yoruba word but now generally used in West Africa (mainly Nigeria) - means complexed, mixed up, difficult to sort out, confusion, trouble, problematic, argumentative. It's one of my favourite words - descibes so many people I have to deal with (especially some Lib Dems). Had an email enquiring if I received my replacement vacuum withing two days - amazed such interest and pleased to say yes - by special delivery. Now to return the old one is 'Wahala'. Got to follow their long-winded procedure - waiting for special packaging so I get my refund. Until then it's stuck in a box on the landing in front of my flat door. Don't have comments on my blog - have a special email box so anybody who wants to contact me can. I do reply (unless they're 'Wahala' rude or sarcy) but it sometimes takes me time to get round to them. Some of the emails are interesting. Noticed that the number of hits (and emails) depends on the subject matter. The days I write abut my life always get many hits - noticed that the two postings that generated the most hits. Liberal Democrats own Cyberman and Islington - Gunners' new home - enough said. Argos has just solved the problem of taps for my bathroom refit. Looking for them has been another 'Wahala'. Decided to buy my own taps with a shower mixer (washing my long hair is 'Wahala'). Unfortunately the bathroom walls are all plaster-board and old (sure they're not within the current standards guideline) so fixing a shower on the wall is impossible. Had to find the old fashioned cradle type with matching taps for the wash basin. Couldn't find them anywhere except way above my price range. The new Argos catalogue came out yesterday - my friend Robert found just what I was looking for and brought them round. All the hype about the new 'The Big One' catalogue (it's certainly heavy). Robert said that yesterday the Argos store in Holloway Road (superstore) had balloons everywhere like a childrens' party with special bags for the new catalogue (very sensible - it's 'Wahala' carrying it). I'm presuming that now Index has closed down, Argos will get all their business. Well everythings ready - I'm expecting 'Wahala' when they come to strip out my bathroom next Wednesday - they claim it will only take two days - we'll live to see. I'm concerned about having no loo and how they will get everything up and down stairs. I'm very curious to see what they find under the floorboards (a property over a 100 years old must have some secrets). My son Sule called this morning - he's definitely a 'Walaha' person when it come to his and my relationship. Always wonder why he calls ( he's not one for quick chats) - usually involves needing me to do something at the last minute or picking my brain for something. Since being made redundant he went to America and bought an embroidery machine (franchise arrangement). He set up a small business designing and making logo's and badges which is now taking off. I've kept out of it because I didn't want the 'Wahala'. It started via the so called 'Black Brothers network' with caps, tee-shirts, sweat shirts and hoodies. He created his own website 2cold - exciting to see his caps on MTV and his jackets on the Budget car adverts. Now through word of mouth he's developed into supplying some impressive corporate clients. The standard of work is first class. He even produces for Lib Dem Image (Lib Dem shop) - all above board so no conflict of interest for myself as a party member. Sells to a few local parties who contact him so they can make some profit toward their campaigning funds - some members in Southwark where he lives (Simon Hughes's constituency) also phone him for gear. Now he's creating a corporate website - important so the two worlds don't clash. As he rightly says he can hardly put Lib Dem caps, Budget jackets and Mayfair clients on the same website as MTV - it sends out the wrong message. His corporate business will vanish overnight. Now back to another 'Wahala' - the back garden. Going to put down the weedkiller but don't want to mistakenly poison the neighbours dogs. Update - 20 Feb 2009: I stand corrected by those who know it is originally a Hausa word hijacked by virtually all the languages in Nigeria. It literally means suffering! If you are using the 4 cardinal points then cities like Yola , Calabar, Jalingo should be eastern Nigeria, that is why jos and bauchi are regarded as eastern nigeria in the western media recently. The East as we know it in a 4 cardinal point will qualify as southern Nigeria, why most yoruba state will qualify as western Nigeria. States like Kwara, Niger and Abuja will be qualify as western Nigeria if u use 4 cardinal points. The North will be for Kaduna, kANO, jIGAWA, and Katsina. You will be suprise that Sokoto is also western Nigeria when using the 4 cardinal point. For Clearity the 8 CARDINAL POINT IS BETTER, Because Sokoto, Niger, becomes North West . And cities like Yola, Jalingo,Maiduguri becomes North East and most Igbo state can be called eastern Nigeria. Although Imo Anambra and Eboyi are not really eastern par se, the true eastern states is Cross River state and most Igbo states are actually east central. By using the word east central ones is now coming out of the 8 cardinal point and entering the territory of the 16 cardinal point. it depend om what compass u want to use. |
"The only basis we can presently charge them is for breach of Section 183 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria" I thought Abuja is immuned from laws of Northern Nigeria or laws from any part of Nigeria. It looks like the administrators in Abuja are informing all of us Nigerians that Abuja is a northern city and not a neutral city as we all thought. I hope the next thing that will happen in Abuja will not be religious riot. |
Been a tribalist is like been a racist there is nothing to celebrate about it. All of u who are tribalist u should all cover your faces in shame. |
What we do not have at the moment is a dedicated Agency tasked with the sole purpose of documenting assets of intending political office holder. for example Gbenga Daniel claimed he is worth 3 billion Naira b4 he became Governor. For you to worth 3 billion you must have been making 5 billion before tax. Can Gbenga Daniel show us his tax returns before he became Governor. 3 billion does not grow on tree you must be generating more than 3 billion somewhere for u to be worth that amoint of money. How many people did Gbenga Daniel employed, for how long did he employed them for, what was the nature of his business, is the business still operating till date, what was the company's profit/loss account over the last 5 years. This are the kind of question the Federal vetting Agency will asking b4 issueing u with a certificate that will enable u to run. At the moment people just stand up annouce they are worth this or that and nobody is asking questions. |
@B1 CCTV is just an anaology, What I am proposing is completely different. If you want to run for Govenor of Oyo State for e.g The Federal Vetting Agency ask you what are your assets, u say u have one house in Agege, and another one in Ife that u inherited from your dad. You have two 10 year old cars. You have N5million in a Nigeria bank and thats all. All these assets will put into center register which any Nigeria can assess. If it happens that u now became Governor u now have house in Abuja, VGC, London. It will be the job of the Federal Vetting Agency to ask you how did you acquaire these new assets we all know that Governors are paid N500,000.00 a month ( this is assumption but the Govenors salary will be public knowledge )how did u manage to acauire all these assets in a short time. If no valid answer is forthcoming all those assets will be confisticated and sold and the money put back into the coffers of the state. The Govenor will also be sacked., since he did not declare the new assets 4 years ago b4 he came Governor. Serving as a Govenor should be seen as a civic duty rather than an avenue to enrich oneself. |
@B1 When you put a pot full Gold in a room and a big search light trained on the pot, with CCTV also covering the pot, tell me which Governor that will have the nerve to take even a Kobo from that pot. Trasparency that is all we are asking for here. |
@Lagosboy, EFCC is somebody's idea, do you think it was baba's Idea. A good policy will see the light of day no matter how long it takes. |
The Federal Vetting Agency's job is not to clear corruption in Nigeria. There Job is to collate the assets of would be public office in a center registry which is open to the public. If you declare that you have one house and 3 years down the line it was discovered you have 2 other houses those 2 houses will be confistacated. Its a no brainer. You have ABC and all of a sudden it was found you have DEFG this undeclared assets will be confisticated and sold and proceeds put back in the coffers of the state or LG as the case may be. |
@I_Laugh Come home first, dont stay away and offer solutions, solutions that obviously will never work, dont be like others, come home, see for yourself, and then offer practicable solutions, and not text book solutions. Thank God we live in a Global Village now. I dont have to be on Ground for brilliant Ideas to be implemented. I stand to gain nothing from the above proposal I am just passionate for my people. It makes no sense for man to embezzle N80 billion in this day and age. If a Governor has no desire to to do any meaningful project in his state he might as well divide the allocation giving amongst its citizen. |
@Pennywise Even then they stand a chance of being corrupted themselves Vetting Agency workers will be the 1st person to be vetted as they are employed. There salary is in the public domain If an Agency worker on say N50,000.00 a month was found to have N2million in his account he will not only be sacked he will also serve time inside Jail. |
@El Razur I remember years ago a freind of mine was working for a shop in central london, the shop had a policy of each staff should have a maximum of £10.00 in there pockets which the shop beleif is more than enough for lunch expenses. This freind of mine was going to work one morning and met one chap that was owing him £20.00, so he asked for his money, the chap paid up. But my freind had forgotten about the company policy he just shoved the money into his pocket and went to work. Checks are not done everyday but routinely, he was unfortunate checks was carried out on the day he had this extra £20.00 on him. He explained to his boss what happened that morning, his boss told him you know the policy, its either you keep the £20.00 and consider today as your last day with us or give up the £20.00 and still have a Job with us, he had to forfeit the £20.00. What you do not declare does not belong to you and it should be confisticated. If you are fronting for some corrupt Governors no your bosses days are numbered. Its the people's money and not any of the 36 Governors. |
We want dedicated officers, if Obasanjo can wake up one day and establish EFCC, I see know reason why Yaradua cannot set up the Federal Vetting Agency with a dedicated task of vetting all politcal office holders plus heads of Goverment parastalas like customs, Ports Authority e.t.c |
150 billion was allocated to each of the 36 states ( this is a conservative estimate ) during the 8 years of Obasanjo. When you take stock of what has been achieved in each of these 36 states and 477 LGs there is nothing to writes home about. We cannot continue to allow the ship to continue sailing aimlessly on the high seas. Rules have to be established. When there are rules there are is some form of orderliness. |

dealing with fraud.[6] The American Dialect Society has traced the term "419 fraud" back to 1992.[7
