The money allocated to the states from the federal account is more or less the governor's money or how do you explain N2 billion withdrawn from Ekiti state's account just b4 the verdict on Oni. It means that if they want to withdraw every single penny they can. We might as well make it legitimate.
Politics › Re: Final Solution To Corruption In Nigeria by KnowAll(op): 12:12pm On Mar 15, 2009
Nigeria's is a peculiar case that requires its own peculiar solution, most public officers cannot seprate the public funds from private funds, that is where the assets register will be useful.
Politics › Lets Legalise Corruption ! by KnowAll(op): 11:28am On Mar 15, 2009
Since we are as a Nation have decided to give 39 % of our income to our senators, House of Reps, Govenors, Ministers , state house of Assemby, LG Chairmen, councillors, ambassdors, e.t.c. The solution to Governors embezzleing huge sums of money from their states despite all the perks they already enjoy is troubling. And having analysed the Nigerian sitiuation, where most Governors does not even know the difference between public purse  and private purse in fact they are linked. If a proper audit is carried out on each of the 36 Governors of Nigeria one will realise that a Governor that has been in post for say 6 years, the last time they actually make any private expenses will equate to the number of years they have spent on that seat. The state takes care of all expenses even if the Governor sneezes and one of his aids buys him something to clear his nose the state will bear the cost of such mundane expenses.

That is why I have come to the conclusion that the state allocation from the federation account should be credicted to Governor's account, and from there it gets disbursed to the different ministries, departments, LG's e.t.c The reason behind this radical thought is the Governor of a state must be seen as the father of the states, and the citizens of the states seen as his children. How many fathers will delibrately let their childern starve to death. The Governor will play a more philantropical role which is how real African demoracy works. There is every likelyhood that the Governor will perform much better under this arrangement than the adopted western styled democratic method which was shoved down our throat by the colonilist. Elections cannot be rigged because it will lead to mau-mau style uprising like what happened in kenya during the colonial days.

What the Governors get away with today with the present status quo.

1. A Governor in northern Nigeria bought 2 lions to act as guard dog. How does a Governor do that in the current sitiuation, why was the expenses not queried by state house of assembly. Another example showing us that most Governor's can just wake up decide they want 2 giant mambas in the state house we might as well legalize their power. By legalizing we are practising African democracy.

2. Peter Odili accompanied OBJ to the UN a few years back, the story went as this OBJ in introducing Odili to Kofi Annah OBJ said if the UN needs fund this is the  Governor to see, he might be of help. This might just be a humourous joke, but the facts are clear most Governors have a carte blanche on expenses in their states and nobody really questions them. We might as well legalise it thats the way we have been practising our brand of democracy even b4 the white people came to africa. That way no hide and seek, some Governors having fake companies in other to defraud the states, the money is already in their account they can do what ever they like with, the tendency will be the reverse of what is happening today.

3. Ayo fayose went back to goverment house to claim about 5 luxury cars that he claims are his personal cars, we all know those cars where bought ekiti's money, but to let sleeping dogs lie, the current speaker of the house who is the acting Governor agreed to Fayose's demand. Another case of where does the public fund stops and private funds starts for Mr Governor its one big conumdrum that cannot be separated like siames twins. Another reasons why African Democracy as a solution to western styled Democarcy.

4. We should go back to what we had in 60's in the western and Northern regions there used to be 2 houses, the house of assembly and the house of Chiefs and it worked fanstatically. Just look at all the projects completed during the time. Adopting American styled democracy causes confusion than any progress. Even in the UK they still have the house of lords whose members are heridotory peers more like our Kings, Obas and Cheifs. There duty is any law passed by the house of commons will be reviewed by the house of lords for it to become law. If its not agreed by the house of lords it will not become law although the house of commons can always modify the bill and and pass it to the lord for a second reading.

5. LG Chairman builds Governor's lodge in his LG HQ, this might sound rediculous but when you have an August visitor in your area, we Africans we rather sleep on the floor than for our visitor to have any dis-comfort. But to those practising western democracy this is sheer waist of public fund, did western democracy stop the project from going ahead no, so whats the point practising it. We might as well practise African democracy if the Governor feels he needs 40 Governors lodge in his state thats what he gets, it is even acheivable under current  model anyway if any Governor so desire.

Looks like PDP can fight back with what Bukola Sarak's is doing in Kwara state.

Lets see what the Permutions will be

Yaradua is not feeling too well, decides Bukola should run for presidency, Duke sees his chance decides to stay put with PDP,

Bukola / Duke / Ngozi Iweala - would the Northerners really accept Bukola as a true northerner ?

Bukola / Ngozi Iweala / Nuhu Ribadu - this is a tight combination and a match winner the opposition will have come up with something stronger.

"You insist on solving this problem from the periphery, you'll fail. The same law that says LGAs are entitled to cash payment from the federal government, also makes it impossible for the LGAs to generate their own funds. This law was made as an attempt to "spread development" in the north just like the south, the result is that the south is being retarded, and people like you don't even know it.
Osogbo LGA is blessed with hard working people, and if given the opportunity, they will self-sustain, and even pay their tax to the state and federal governments. Instead, we now have a situation where a whole LGA quibbles with the state over fund allocations, while the state in turn fights with the federal governent over it's own share of the cake.
It's not a question of the figure amounts involved, but the principle."

This thread is not about internal generated revenue, If u want to talk about internal generated revenue then I suggest u open another thread. This thread is about the LG's getting what the FG has promise to give them. In a laymans example is If your dad promise to give u N10.00 and he actually gave it to someone to pass it on to you, the person now decides to take N6.00 thereby giving u only N4.00 how are u going to feel. The LG's should not allow this kind of day light robbery they should seek jurisdiction in the courts unless the Nigerian Constitution allows for this kind of transaction.

For someone called KnowAll, you ironically know nothing! You're not only treating the symptoms of this disease, you have shown total ignorance of its pathology.
The idea of sharing money at the LGA level begins at the federal level, down to the states level. Along the way, people and processes interfer with the idea, and the result becomes quite different from the intention.
Smart people have kicked against the current revenue sharing formula in Nigeria, because it breeds and nurtures corruption, laziness, and violates basic human rights of the oppressed. They know that the revenue is the reward for winning the civil war, unfortunately it has turned decent Nigerians into thieves, liars, and cheats.
Let me break it down for you: If the LGA, and state governments earn money and pay taxes to the federal government, it's harder to embezzel that money, because there're many checks and balances along the way.
However, if the federal government somehow doles out money, they're unaccountable to anybody. If they give the state #1000, they have prbably unjustly kept #10,000 for themselves. The state then gives the LGA #10, while unjustly keeping #100 for themselves, so there is and will never be any accountability anywhere. The water is polluted upstream, so don't waste your time at the state level.
There're many states that could sustain themselves finacially, but for opposing federal laws introduced after the civil war. So get to understand the problem before trying to solve it.

You are missing the point here b4 u start ranting about corruption along the distribition line, the point is if LG is entitled to N10.00 let them have their N10.00 it is wrong for the  FG govt to publish a monthly returns and u know u are expecting N10.00 and only N2.00 hits your account. Data does not lie I will suggest u go through the data at the top of these post. For example Osogbo LG was giving N89 million by the FG in actual fact they might have been entitled to N120 million but that is not the issue here, the state govt kept N62 million giving the LG only N27 million that is wrong and needs to be challenged.

The saraki's are only paying part of what they stole from the people through Societal General, 17 billion naira disappar over night from Societal General. What he has given the people of Kwara state is a small token of what they stole from that bank, at least they did something with the money and I am sure they will still claim anymore spent on this project from the FG.

Why should this be the scenario in a country that says it is a federal republic?

How can we say we have a federal democracy if one level of govt can hijack another level's money, we all knew how Tinubu was sreaming all over the place when the FG withheld lagos state's money. So the LG's should be up in arms and not keep quiet when they are short change month after month.

"A nation that spends 90% her talent/manpower planning how to share money, steal money, sabotage others, and neglecting all other means of livelihood has no chance at all. Gone were the days people woke up planning how to go out there and work hard; raise ground-nut pyramids, produce thousands of tons of cocoa, and export millions of tons of palm oil/kernel. Today, thanks to oil, our people wake up with only one thing in mind: how to share the national cake. There's no way of slicing the cake into 36 pieces without someone complaining. "

Thats not the essence of this thread, the essence of the thread is LGs should get their entitlements, they dont need the state goverments to embezzle it for them, what they do with it is down to them at least let them have it. Give ceasar what is ceasar's. LG's are treated like kids by the state goverments.

If the FG promise you N1000.00, and u said to yourself if I received that money I will invest in recharge card business and I should be able to make N2,000.00 every month. Which money would u be chasing 1st, the N1000.00 that will make the N2000.00 happen or the N2000.00 that cannot happen without the N1000.00. Ultimate means maximum, top, anything that has a maximum will surely have a minimum and anything that is the top punishment will have a bottom punishment.

We deserve more, I think now is the right time to raise up our expectations a little bit higher; just because your husband comes home every night doesn't make him a great husband.

Let us give Fashola a chance to continue to develop and continue to deliver great things. This is what he's there to do, it is his duty to serve the people and make Lagos state shine.

There is nothing stopping diasporans from going home to be part of the politicking ( which is another word for horse trading ) but they should play politics the way is done in the west. One can still be a millionaire as a politician playing it the proper way. for example If u give your wife some money for food at the beginnig of the month, and u get home that evening, no food for u to eat, where is the money, no money, wont u be infuriated. But what we are saying is u can give her N100.00 for the month and she manages to spend N80.00 and keep N20.00 for herself yet the food last till the end of the month that is what is called effective management.

Does the constitutionof Nigeria allow State goverments to deduct from LG.

Is Mimiko new Governor of Ondo state right in freezing LG accounts in Ondo State

Do we not have a true Federal structure, whereby the state is independent of the center and the LGs are independent of the state.

How come the states can freeze LG''s account to me that is like one's father freezing a son or daughter's account that cannot be done, so how come state Governors get away with it.

NL with very sound knowledge of our constitutions please constribution.

Poverty politics leads to poverty all over the land, it leads to a depress economy, Fashola can award a contract that will cost billions of pounds, without laying a brick but he chose not to.

What will be the effect of proper poltics

1. The propose blue and red line will lead to large scale employement
2. The state will probabaly be making a billion Naira if not more a month.
3. Because there will be large scale employment, social malices like armed robbers will reduce.

Do we choose this kind of politics or the other kind of politcs whereby nothing gets done but the governor/minister/ president gets fat on the peoples money.

Nigerians should be tasking their leaders asking them u have been there for 4 years tell us one thing that u have done.
