She didn't just up and put that plan forward. She might have been too enthusiastic and vocal about it, especially at a time where there's a general apathy for the government, but she's got backers both within the party and outside who share the same ideology. They're going to come back, just watch out.
@hustla you remember this?

This is a bad idea and a trap. There's no way interest rates will stay the way they are now even up to 5yrs. If you get this, you're going to end up regretting when rates come down and you're left paying these absurd prices. November 2021 would've been a good time to fix, when there were still 1.x% rates in the market.

Hello everyone..I have a question to ask
I just got a job in nestle uk and they offer to pay me £47,000 annually plus tax..
Please considering the standard of living in Uk..can this salary offer make me a middle class earner in uk??..
Am asking because I have another offer here in Nigeria that want to pay me the almost the equivalent of that amount..
I want to use your opinion to make my decision..
Factor in Naija bad road, insecurity, power issues, flood and health care wahala. If you consider it all bearable, then take the Naija job.

My parents applied for the right visas. They came in and worked in the health and rail industry and bought multiple properties in SE London which now mortgage free and are rented out now on average for £3000pm each. Inspired by my parents I also have acquired my own few freehold properties which I rent out.
They didn't pretend to come in as students to abuse the system...Yeah be like my parents and get the right visa
So you complaining of a housing crisis in the UK is sitting on multiple rental properties while average families are looking to get on the housing ladder. You do realize that your faux patriotism is only just virtue signaling.

Stop defending nonsense.
The issue here is that Nigerians are taking advantage of the student visa route and bringing everybody in their family. The Student visa was not designed for that.

There is a housing crisis because student accomodation is supposed to house single people and not whole families. Most Nigerians coming in can not afford to pay for housing which is suitable for whole families that is the main issue.

Women are coming in heavily pregnant and giving birth for free on the NHS...can they try that one in America?

3-4 New immigrant children are being placed in schools and British born children who have parents who have paid taxes for years have to stay home.

As I said, The student visa was not designed for families but now the government is aware that Nigerians are taking the piss they will put a stop to it.
You're actually the one with a rubbish stance. You're saying Nigerian students are flooding student accommodations with their whole families, so why is there such a huge demand for 2-3 bed properties around the country, with the available properties turning into bidding wars, and properties going at 30-70k over asking? I really don't understand why you're crying more than the bereaved. If the UK government so feels that the net economic benefits of immigrant students is far less than the strain they're causing to the system, let them put a stop to it. Nigerians will simply go elsewhere; it has happened before.
If all your pain is because an immigrant child took your kid's spot in school, well, my advice is work harder, so you can send the child to Eton. Pele dear, don't be the village people, they pray against.

Those ones who pack themselves in houses are illegal immigrants.

We are talking about those Nigerians who are abusing the student visa route by packing their whole families to the UK. It is putting a strain on housing and schools. Please stick to the topic.
You can't have an omelette without breaking some eggs. The government thought about all that before deciding to open the scheme. There's strain on the system because the government isn't funding the system at par with the growth of the population. The issue with the NHS didn't start with the reintroduction of student visas with PSW, neither did the housing crisis or failures in other critical infrastructure.
Nigerian students did not benefit from the billions doled out during covid as furlough pay. Most students put their lives at great risk to feed their families because there was no recourse to public funds. Thousands of the lowest and almost demeaning of jobs are being done by these Nigerian students, jobs that Brits will likely reject, so don't come here and speak like they're the cause of the strain on the system.

Na now you talk the real koko .

That why I said over 90% of people wanting to get student visa , don’t have genuine intentions of really wanting to school.

But in a way , it helps the UK schools and economy somehow ,because if you take away the high amount of money International students pay as tuitions , Many UK schools will go bankrupt ! Fact !!

Because their own citizens care less about schooling for a masters certificate … lol grin
Oga which one is genuine intentions again? Someone coughs up millions of naira to pay fees, comes to the UK and goes to the school. Whether getting an MSc or PhD at 80 was the dream or using a student visa as the entre into the UK it doesn't matter. As long as they go to study all is fair and good.

Liz Truss will be more of a ceremonial prime minister going forward. I think she'd realise that she's made a series of major mistakes now, and no one really wants to hear whatever she has to say, so she's going to prop J.H forward as much as possible.

The comments are even more depressing!
I think the government simply wants to have their cake and eat it. Most of those commenting on the article have no idea how much raw cash immigrant students bring into the UK economy. International students are paying twice the amount of tuition fees as locals, paying visa application fees, IHS for themselves and dependants, ontop of that, some still end up paying thousands of pounds upfront to rent accomodation.
Most Nigerians coming to the UK, don't want to live just average lives. Everybody wants to "buga" and that is good for the country's economy in the long term, because it means we're willing to put in the work and go extra to get the money.
The government is looking at cutting down on low-skilled/unskilled labor, yet, if you look at most of those low skilled jobs, they're filled by immigrants. Wasn't it just a few months ago, farmers were complaining of crops going bad in the fields because they couldn't find cheap immigrant labor to harvest them due to Brexit?

Slowly, this talk is gaining traction and festering in their minds. I guess they're allowing it to stew, so when they finally make the decision the outrage and backlash wouldn't be so much.

Random Musings: What’s the largest amount you’ve heard a family has had to pay for their BRP?

Today I heard £18k and was completely blown! Family of 4. 5 years visa fee + IHS. That’s crazzzyyyyyyy!!! A whole mortgage deposit! Whew! You think your own is bad until you hear what other peeps are going through.
You have to pay if you want to play. No free lunch.

Good day elders.
I have been thinking to rent a 2/3 bedroom and use one of the rooms for Airbnb.

Assuming the landlord agrees for me to sublet (tough job), does it run contrary to the terms of my tier 2 visa?

For tier 2 I know we can have a second job in the industry for which our CoS was issued.

Subletting is not a job so it doesn’t count.

I'd like your opinions on this please. Will subletting have any impact on my future ILR?

É don happen....... Then don sack our brother....... grin
Two weeks ago in a TV interview they asked Liz whose idea the mini-budget was and she said it was within the chancellor's purview and so he was responsible. I knew from then that if someone was going to get axed, he'd definitely be the first.
It's unfortunate, because his sack will set the entire race back. I doubt we'll see another black Chancellor in our lifetime.
