Hello guys...
No be say I lazy o but overtime at work to meet up no allow person to read through from the beginning
The thread is so informative...

Like WhatsApp, are there starred pages with very vital information to avoid stupid questions and as well repeating answers over and over again

Like this now, nah only monzo account I get and have been operating with since
Please i want to open a regular bank account... don't know which to go for... read a little about nationwide and Halifax being good for mortgages, is this correct abi na which bank go make sense pass for every every?

I don't even know about this CC stuff until now... nawa o...
Any basic information on how to successfully progress nicely without issues in this youkay will highly be appreciated

Open an account with Barclays if you're concerned about mortgages in the short-mid term. The offerings from most banks are fairly similar and you can open more than one bank anyways, but try to keep your very first account in the country open even with any other account you choose to open alongside.

Still on the mortgage issue, if you're considering that soon, now is the time to open a LISA and start making contributions. More about LISA's here https://lifetimeisa.campaign.gov.uk/ and no, it's not public funds. Moneybox app would be easier to use here.

Use a credit card like a debit card, don't spend more than you can pay within a monthly cycle. Pay it all completely within the month, don't carry any balance over so you don't accrue interest. If you want to make big purchases and spread the payments over time, then maybe go for purchase credit cards with 0% interest for 12-18months though these are harder to get these days. You can use the Credit Karma app, to see your scores and cc offers.

Or you can get an American Express card, usually lower bar for approval than most others. If the spirit leads, you can use my ref https://americanexpress.com/en-gb/referral/dESMOEYJEX?XL=MIANS

Hi guys,

Please after you max the credit score (999/ does it remain there of you have to keep working to maintain it?

I'm at 903 and I've been here for 6 months. I'm afraid that it would drop when I change address and all that

Use the credit karma app to recheck your score. Frequent changes in address, loans, credit applications etc. affects your score but often the changes are small. As long as you're not maxing a credit card and/or you don't have any missed payments you should be ok.

There's nothing to take here for the ordinary man. When it's a buyer's market, you can make small shakara, but when it's a seller's market there's nothing you can do, you'd be outbid and gazumped even at the 11th hour. If not the ex-staff that leaked the information, the buyer wouldn't have known what went on internally.
During our home purchase, the estate agent came back after our offer was accepted that the seller had gotten a ~8% increase at that time, houses were being snapped up even before they were advertised, we went back and forth a couple of times but didn't want to deal with going back to the market, so we accepted it and went ahead.
I still don't know if there was ever another offer being considered or the estate agent just wanted to fleece us, but after the purchase, we found out the estate agent was the seller's sister so......

Og's in the building, please how do you answer the below question?

Will you now or in the future require company sponsorship to be eligible to work for the company?

Some of us have started our job search and wouldn't mind working in the company as we search for sponsored opportunities to gain experience.

In addition to that, I think/know this is a filtering mechanism.

I already clicked "No", anything otherwise, na rejection mail go just follow.

Will appreciate your replies and insights in case of next time.

You’re going to need sponsorship at some point so why not just answer straightforward. Any company that’ll employ you wouldn’t bother too much with sponsorship requirement, it’s less than a 30mins task for the admin staff. If they filter you out because of sponsorship they’re probably not worth it in the first place.

Please I just got to UK recently as a student. I still trying to get a part time job. It's not been easy. Now, my phone has been showing "no service" on both sim cards since yesterday. Potential employers might not be able to reach me, because some took my number and promised to call back after, and the ones that have told me to be on standby for shifts. Please, if anyone that can assist me with a small phone to receive calls as I can't afford to buy a phone for now. I already exhausted the cash I came with on transport for job hunt and dbs.
I live in Liverpool. Please I really need this please.

If your phone worked here before, I’m guessing with a UK sim, it shouldn’t suddenly stop. Maybe get one of those free Lebara sims, you should be able to receive calls on them.

Hi guys, please I would like to get your opinions on a subject. From past experiences, is the bill generated from a smart metre cheaper than the bill generated when you send your metre reading to the electric company? So in other words which is better to do? Install smart metre or send metre readings monthly to the energy company?
Go with the smart meter, the rates are the same the meter does not influence what rates your supplier uses. At least with the smart meter you'll can monitor and manage usage.

You don't have to turn the floor heating on....... But it's a good feature.........😂

Imagine not having to wear slippers/socks indoors, because your floor is always warm .........😜

You might not even require the use of a microwave, just put your plate on the floor. .......🤣😂😭

[quote author=geekseventplace post=120333947]Hello friends,

I am looking for an immigrant in UK who is ready to take a job as a full time nanny for my two kids. Accomodation, feeding, utilites, internet, phone bills will be all taken care of. Monthly pay is 300-400£ depending on a few other details.
The lady/woman should be less than 50 yrs and already residing in the UK.
Location is Basildon in Essex.

£400/month? Even with all the “perks” I this isn’t a good deal.

Hello guys. Please what is the average gas cost for a 2bedroom flat. EPC rating E. I topped up £30 2days ago and now it's remaining just £9. Is this normal or is something wrong with the meter. I own the heater for about 7hrs 2days ago, 5hrs yesterday and barely 3hrs today.

That your EPC rating is the problem. All your heat is leaking out as you generate it

I went and re-read his/her qustion again, there was only a mention of savings. We were not given any information on their personal circumstance. What if they have everything sorted?
The single biggest expense is accomodation. What if that's settled? I had my accommodation settle for the duration of my course so did not have to worry about that. The only utility I paid was electricity which was just over £50 a month. It was a student accommodation so no council tax, no broadband subscription etc.
Again I say, haba now?? No need spitting hairs, but your case is 1% exception. We can't give generic advise on the exception. That said, abeg show us the way now, let us line up all our village people.

Nothing like setting a target. As u can see I said I'm making 6 digits.I just want to have idea how much we can be saving considering how much am making in Nigeria. So that i won't regret my move. Thanks

Six digits is a wide range. N100,000 is 6d. N999,999 is also 6d so maybe if you go over/under a figure it might help others. However, speaking in general terms this system doesn't allow you to have that much disposable cash unless you're extremely frugal and earn way above average. Based on ONS stats median weekly pay is £640. That's before tax and NI, if you factor those in your weekly take home would amount to c. £512. Factor in your rent, utilities, council tax, childcare costs(if any),travel costs etc. and you'll have an idea what's going to be left.
Obviously if you're earning senior manager levels salary, you're a software developer, IT consultant or maybe a GP, you'd be far above the median pay, but just coming from Nigeria you're not going to earn near such figures. You have to look at UK with the "whole-package" perspective, to make it make sense i.e. better security, generally better standard of living, better prospects for your kids, ability to use the UK as a launchpad to move to other countries etc. If you make a like-like comparison solely on the basis of pay or savings I don't think many would make the move.

Education / Re: 300-L Student Discovers His Name Is Not In School Register by kode12: 7:17pm On Dec 31, 2022
People with their names not on the register is often as a result of fake admission, admission via man-know-man method where the process wasn't duly completed or the student didn't pass either first or second year and was then withdrawn from study but was not communicated the information.
The truth is, most students with their names not on the register have a fair reason why, but they will not open up for fear of embarrassment.

Compliments of the season everyone. So I passed my driving test yesterday with 3 minors. I remember when I came here to complain some months back about my instructor (whom I did change) and driving in general.lol.
I had never driven before, had between 35- 40 hours and passed first time. I'm not a motivational speaker or anything but if I can drive and pass the test, Anybody can! My family still can't believe I passed. They couldn't even believe I was learning cos I can fear for Africa.
Congratulations and safe travels.

Have you tried getting American Express or Amazon credit cards? Those are fairly easy to get. If not maybe CCs from Tesco or John Lewis. Try those, as long as each one isn't doing a hard search against you.

You guys need to stop pitching credit card.

You can survive in the UK and leave a very comfortable life without them.

What are you saying? In a country where literally everything is credit based, why will you shortchange yourself by avoiding credit?

If you’re so risk averse, you set up protections to ensure your payments aren’t late. Having a credit card isn’t a passport for uncontrolled spending, so I don’t know what your problem is.

My sister. Want to ask u something. Is it possible for one's credit score to increase without having to devise the cc or borrow and pay back on time method.

Cant someone just live his life normally, earn his salary, and use his card to buy something with the money in his card. Wont this also increase credit score?

Even if her goal is to relocate, I believe there are ways to leverage your UK credit history to get better credit in the US or EU.
Why not get a CC, use it for regular shopping and just setup direct debit to pay it off?

Hi Elders, I got my visa last month so I stated applying for jobs in UK using my sister's address in UK on my cv while in naija. fortunately, I got a job with a good coy in UK but I got a mail today to furnish them with my addresses in the last 5 years. My sister told me to come straight because I am still in Nigeria and I won't be in UK till January 2023. I am really confused because the offer is good but I really do not want to be seen as a cheat or liar which will affect my future in uk.. please big bros and sis your advice is needed.
If you’ve booked your flight, put your arrival date to present on your UK address, e.g January 5th 2023 - Present. (10 Downing Street, SW10)
let the recruiter untangle it. If they’re unclear they’ll likely come back to you for further details.

Are you good with manual transmission?
Can you do Uber, Deliveroo, Justeat, Ubereat etc? Check these out online to know their requirements and prepare accordingly.
Download indeedFlex.

Has the restriction on being self-employed on student visa been removed? Or is deliveroo, uber etc no longer being classed as self-employment?

Now I am begining to understand why most Nigerians here don't want to accomodate newcomers who are Nigerians. I accommodated a guy who is becoming difficult for me to handle just because I don't like wahala. We lived in the same house in Nigeria and during those period we were never friends.

This story strong!!! This guy needs to go, but more importantly you have to be very vigilant for the safety of your family between now and when this fellow leaves.
I hope some renters or lodgers rights won’t be an issue here though.
Don’t let this situation stop your being kind sha, God no go let your good work against you.

I am not surprised at your comment because this is how Africans and blacks behave. They do not believe in any services offered by their fellow blacks here; rather they believe in the quackery services offered to them by Indians, Parkistani and the Easter Europeans. So keep up with this mentality and lets see how it will lead to the growth of the black community in the UK.

No offence, but the optics of what you did here is very very bad. You surely aren’t against a prospective client doing their due diligence are you? And yes, like the OP said, even in Naija you don’t have tax consultants and accountants advertising services around.

Hello Ancestors,
Please help
I have a tenancy agreement of 6 months renewable every six month.sometimes in October ,agent sent me mail for renewal to which I told them that am not signing another six month because I may be moving out.The contract expires on 17th December,Am I still supposed to give any notice as I am moving out on expiry. The agency are saying I should give one month notice and that means one month payment which I thought is not required at expiration of contract.Pls help me understand what I should put thro to landlord or agent ooo.

TIA

If the contract said one month notice and you told them in October you’re not renewing, that should suffice as notice.
If someone failed to pick up on that and do the needful to re-advertise the property, that’s their problem.

Yes. In fact there was one time I asked if I could claim a certain expense, the accountant said ultimately I am the director and the final decision lies with me but then added a caveat which I interpreted as "you shouldn't be doing this" but I later found out it was perfectly legal.
I used one of those "big" accounting firms online partly because they were recommended by my agency then plus I did not want HMRC wahala.

Wow, can you imagine. What a waste, they need to sue the stupid accountant and firm.

Let me save this by quoting it. Dashed HMRC money when I was contracting until I realised after almost 3 years that I could have saved a lot more. To make matters worse, I paid the accounting firm thousands yearly for the priviledge.

I am not understanding. Do you mean, you were paying tax consultants and they still allowed you to pay all that excess tax?
