Hi Everyone,

I need some guidance, please. A friend is starting a master's at Brunel University London this September. He plans to go with his wife and two kids. The problem he is facing is accommodation. The minimum two-bedroom flat we have found online is 1600 pounds. This is around Uxbridge. We are shocked that the houses are too expensive and wanted to find out if that is the going rate around Uxbridge or would he find a cheaper one if he went to the city rather than searching out on the internet from Nigeria?

He/she can look for properties in Slough or Langley. There's a bus that runs from Slough town centre to Uxbridge town centre. Slough also has a good Nigeria/Black community so that might be a plus. Avoid accommodation around slough high street and Chalvey, most other areas are alright.

Yes but I got no response yet. I am asking to know if anyone got similar issue and has rectified it and how they did.

This isn't a common problem from my knowledge. Regardless, if your BRP number is incorrect somehow, reporting to UKVI would be your only recourse.
Just to confirm you're checking via https://right-to-work.service.gov.uk/rtw-prove/id-question ?

Please house, I just got my brp and I have this issue when I try to verify, I used my passport and the same thing. I have also entered the correct details what could be the problem and how to rectify.

The bottom of your screenshot says if you're having problems, contact UKVI. Soo......

Going to Nottingham

From Gatwick there's a bus that goes to Nottingham every few hours for less than or about £20. But its a 6-7hr trip. From Heathrow it's between 4-5hrs.

Train Heathrow - Nottingham about 4hrs.
Train Gatwick - Nottingham about 3:30hrs
If you're traveling with lots of luggage it might be more convenient to use the bus as there's less changing. Or take a taxi from airport to final dest.

Hi CheesyTee I’m also waiting for a decision on my tier 2 application, mine is 12 weeks already. Do you mind sharing the email used in contacting UKVI? I also sent you a pm

If you're switching Tier 4 to work visa, you're better off using the biometrics app to take the photo and do the BRP scan. It's a lot faster.

It depends on where you're going to i.e final destination in the UK. You may might have to travel a bit longer to reach your final destination

Please can somebody share with me from the experience. Family of 4 will be coming to Uk second week of August through Heathrow London. Meanwhile, main applicant has entered UK since January 2022. My wife She has not travelled outside Nigeria neither facing immigration officer for reason she is herr . I want to know how possible it is If I accompany them to immigration counter/ checking point when they landed. I will be waiting for them at the Heathrow, can I give a response to some questions from immigration officer, I don't know whether is permitted for someone to reach the arrival checking point.

She's not going to write exam. If she can speak English she'll be ok, if she can't they'll get a translator. She has your address, she knows what you're doing in the UK, she has original documents. That's all that's needed. There's nothing to it, as long as everything is in order, you don't need to stress about it, Stop bothering yourself.

Yes you are right many of these universities are aimed at making money from international students, and this isn’t helped given the average Nigerian youth here in nairaland is looking for a cheap university that has easy entry requirements.

It’s like someone I know doing MBA at Northampton then wondering why he is not getting good job offers like the better schools like LBS etc, well that’s the price when you seek cheap school with no gmat etc entry requirements so just quick and easy.

Many times these students do not understand the way recruitment works, and by the time they figure it out it’s usually late with recruitments programs closed and filled up.

While I agree on the importance of attending a good quality university, the Office for Students and QAA monitors the teaching standards and quality of universities in the country. A university maintaining its license for an academic session indicates it meets whatever benchmark has been set by the regulatory body.
Getting a job doesn't solely depend on the university certificate a student has, especially in post-graduate education. Many have the certificates without the proper skills to back them up. Some might have the skills but are unable to confidently portray and defend such skills in interviews.
Most of the learning done in post-grad education is self-study with guidance from tutors, and this is the same regardless of the "quality" of the university. Many Nigerians coming to the UK come with the sole purpose of "japa" and study courses that are either irrelevant, with low demand, or where they have no prior background.
While they might struggle and pass tests and exams, it's much harder to get past a skilled recruiter or a panel that knows exactly what to look for in the candidate.
Most recruiters will look past a degree and go for a skilled candidate unless a role explicitly requires the candidate has a degree. Where a degree is required, a BSc with skills would probably rank higher than someone with just a masters from an Ivy League university.

If you work for an agency 37 hrs, can u work for another agency more than 20 hours without needing sponsorship since it’s not Nhs?
If you're on a skilled work visa, (and/or health and care visa- not completely sure), if you take up a second job, and you're working more than 20hours, you need sponsorship. REGARDLESS of the employer

Hi gurus, just to get clarity, I have got a tier 2 work visa. Working in the NHS, 40hrs/week.

Recently, I got a second job (care job) doing 36 hrs /week.

Seeing this updates from gov.uk website, hope I'm not breaking any rules?

https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/second-job

Your second employer will need to offer you sponsorship else you're limited to 20hrs.

Haba....... Look on the brighter side ........

- Deposit would be minimal
- Repayments would also be very minimal

It's called, shared generational debt responsibility payment ....... No point rushing, you have 50 years to pay it all up ....... grin

Interest payments would put a very big smile on the lenders face.......... But they are robbing your back, you have to rub their back too ........... grin

Yes now, for a 50yr mortgage just imagine how much interest you'd have to pay on that. Instead of focusing developing more affordable housing and preventing all these shady investment practices that drive up the price of the remaining housing stock, the government is instead ensuring its coffers remain topped up to the brim.
This scheme is designed like almost everything else, to take advantage of the poor, though it seems like it's meant to help them when considered at face value.

Does this mean Ekweremmadu is not guilty of any offense? If yes, congratulations to him, and his critics should rest. But if he is guilty in any way, why so much concentration on the boy's age?

Also, why has immigration quickly confirmed the boy's age but may spend eternity trying to confirm the authenticity of the passport used by the boy?

I am not making any claim in favour of or against Ekweremmadu. I am just pointing out the errors in Nigerian system. Why is the confirmation of the boy's age what is making headlines as an achievement of the immigration? It is not bad for immigration to help in confirming his age. But verifying the authenticity of the passport, which is the core duty of the immigration, should first make headline about the immigration's effort in the case. Confirmation of his age is the core duty of the population commission.

The boy's age underpins the whole case. Organ donation is not a crime, but an underaged child cannot give such consent. The parents of the underaged child also cannot consent to the operation.
If he's indeed above 18, the only standing charge for I. Ek will be money laundering because reports say he was arrested with $20k. I believe you can only travel with $10k cash max, and must be declared

Revolut isnt a bank, and I dont think it has signed up to the voluntary fraud protection scheme some UK banks have signed up to which is what enables them to refund money when people are scammed.
All UK banks are generally equal in terms of services offered to depositors.

There you go! That's something for those using Revolut like a regular bank to take into consideration when making transactions
