JanegirlN: Compliments of the season everyone. So I passed my driving test yesterday with 3 minors. I remember when I came here to complain some months back about my instructor (whom I did change) and driving in general.lol. I had never driven before, had between 35- 40 hours and passed first time. I'm not a motivational speaker or anything but if I can drive and pass the test, Anybody can! My family still can't believe I passed. They couldn't even believe I was learning cos I can fear for Africa. Congratulations and safe travels. |

Guess I will have to wait a bit longer to try again Have you tried getting American Express or Amazon credit cards? Those are fairly easy to get. If not maybe CCs from Tesco or John Lewis. Try those, as long as each one isn't doing a hard search against you. |

Ralphlauren: You guys need to stop pitching credit card.
You can survive in the UK and leave a very comfortable life without them. What are you saying? In a country where literally everything is credit based, why will you shortchange yourself by avoiding credit? If you’re so risk averse, you set up protections to ensure your payments aren’t late. Having a credit card isn’t a passport for uncontrolled spending, so I don’t know what your problem is. |

eniola1010: My sister. Want to ask u something. Is it possible for one's credit score to increase without having to devise the cc or borrow and pay back on time method.
Cant someone just live his life normally, earn his salary, and use his card to buy something with the money in his card. Wont this also increase credit score? Even if her goal is to relocate, I believe there are ways to leverage your UK credit history to get better credit in the US or EU. Why not get a CC, use it for regular shopping and just setup direct debit to pay it off? |

My sister told me to come straight because I am still in Nigeria and I won't be in UK till January 2023. I am really confused because the offer is good but I really do not want to be seen as a cheat or liar which will affect my future in uk.. please big bros and sis your advice is needed. If you’ve booked your flight, put your arrival date to present on your UK address, e.g January 5th 2023 - Present. (10 Downing Street, SW10) let the recruiter untangle it. If they’re unclear they’ll likely come back to you for further details. |

I accommodated a guy who is becoming difficult for me to handle just because I don't like wahala. We lived in the same house in Nigeria and during those period we were never friends. This story strong!!! This guy needs to go, but more importantly you have to be very vigilant for the safety of your family between now and when this fellow leaves. I hope some renters or lodgers rights won’t be an issue here though. Don’t let this situation stop your being kind sha, God no go let your good work against you. |

japhethGold: I am not surprised at your comment because this is how Africans and blacks behave. They do not believe in any services offered by their fellow blacks here; rather they believe in the quackery services offered to them by Indians, Parkistani and the Easter Europeans. So keep up with this mentality and lets see how it will lead to the growth of the black community in the UK. No offence, but the optics of what you did here is very very bad. You surely aren’t against a prospective client doing their due diligence are you? And yes, like the OP said, even in Naija you don’t have tax consultants and accountants advertising services around. |

Pogracious: Hello Ancestors, Please help I have a tenancy agreement of 6 months renewable every six month.sometimes in October ,agent sent me mail for renewal to which I told them that am not signing another six month because I may be moving out.The contract expires on 17th December,Am I still supposed to give any notice as I am moving out on expiry. The agency are saying I should give one month notice and that means one month payment which I thought is not required at expiration of contract.Pls help me understand what I should put thro to landlord or agent ooo.
TIA If the contract said one month notice and you told them in October you’re not renewing, that should suffice as notice. If someone failed to pick up on that and do the needful to re-advertise the property, that’s their problem. |

dustydee: Yes. In fact there was one time I asked if I could claim a certain expense, the accountant said ultimately I am the director and the final decision lies with me but then added a caveat which I interpreted as "you shouldn't be doing this" but I later found out it was perfectly legal. I used one of those "big" accounting firms online partly because they were recommended by my agency then plus I did not want HMRC wahala. Wow, can you imagine. What a waste, they need to sue the stupid accountant and firm. |

yolkman20: Hello ancestors,
My wife's about to finish her study so we're planning to relocate to outside of London. I was planning west midlands, anywhere commutable to Birmingham city center, but my uncle is against it because we have no one there to help with our baby, this is because we normally drop her with his wife when our shift clashes.
More so, He advised we get sponsorship first before securing a house, but we really want to leave because we're currently living in a shared apartment and our neighbor is really crazy, I had to call the police on her last week. We can't wait that long as we're still looking out and london is out of it. I believe we should be able to get care or support worker sponsorship within Birmingham or anywhere close, (if anyone can help with plugs, I'd appreciate.)
Another challenge is the house thing, most agent insist because I'm not on full employment and my self employed isn't up to a year, they won't be able to proceed with me. Please, any tricks or ideas to bypass this will be appreciated.
We wish to move in before xmass.
Looking forward to your comments. Your uncle can serve as a guarantor for you to secure the accommodation. The alternative would be paying rent over a long term, but I'd secure an employment before moving homes though. |

Gloriouscrown: Hi Mimi, someone I know got an offer with a particular trust, band 2 but 10.10£ per hour. He tried to ask for sponsorship but the Hr said they don't sponsor unless his line manager endorses him. He is yet to start the job but his tier 4 visa expires mid next year. He is keen on this job because it's a stone throw to his accommodation and he is not planning on moving anywhere else for now. Any advice regarding sponsorship?
Cc rayralph, everyone with any pointers.
Thank you He likes the job, it's close to his home, there's a possibility of sponsorship if the line manager likes his work, so why not take the job and start working out how to get the manager to endorse him? He's not tied to the job, while there, he can continue to look for other options incase this one fails before that time. Mid next year is 6months away, that's enough time to get his/her ducks in a row. By the 3-4month, the manager should know if they want to keep him/her, the manager might even sponsor because they don't want to go through the hassle of another recruitment and training process with a new starter. |

I will be waiting for your reply. Learn barbing. If you've got a lot of black students in your uni, you can make some cool money cutting hair. Just so someone does not quote me as advising rule breaking, I have to inform you that any "side business" is technically against the self-employment restriction of the Tier4/student visa scheme. |

Amarathripple0: It’s complicated because he/she is looking to cut out the middle man (the agency) and earn way more than they are currently earning Lol. That’s the undertone of the whole dilemma. Lol that’s funny though, considering it’s only the agency that can offer him/her sponsorship. |

Fourcade: Hi everyone,
I have a friend who works with an agency. he's a 24hrs support worker. he has grown to be a hard worker to the client and the client loves the companionship and emotional support he offers. The wife of the client also loves him. They prefer him to the other support workers who work there.
Now the issue is, the wife wants her to be the main support worker along with one other worker she choses. They want to employ her directly and stop the agency from sending workers there.
The wife of the client isn't aware of her visa status as a tier 4 student. The agency has also promised her tier 2 sponsorship. There is so so much uncertainty about the tier 2 sponsorship.
This is a situation of not biting the hands that feed you. She doesn't want the client to withdraw from the agency and wants to also continue working for the agency. Her fear is that she may lose on both sides. Not getting the sponsorship and also losing the client.
What are her options? Is there any visa that she can apply for to work with the client directly? She's confused. Why is this a complicated issue though? The patient (or persons being cared for) can not sponsor your friend without a license so that's out of the question. The agency also would not want to lose out on having them as a client either. Since both sides are apparently happy with the work he is doing, your friend should simply tell the client to approach the agency and discuss their preference of having him/her being the main care worker. It's a win-win for both sides, I don't see how they'd have an issue with it. |

Have got my amex card sometimes ago now and recently spent around £500. Wanna pay back and something came to my mind like instead of paying directly using my Lloyds, can't I use my GTBANK master card. It'd be cheaper.
But I don't know if it makes sense cos I'm still new to the whole stuff. Anyone with adequate knowledge of this should please educate me. Thanks How is using £ to pay £ more expensive than using Naira to pay £? Is GTB no longer charging at near black market rates? |

Why doesn’t she start the application and find out. If a current passport is required she can pause the application and restart when the passport arrives |

Just a quick question
Is it possible to get sponsorship and still remain on 20 hours per week while still studying?
Can one switch visas based on that?
Thank you! The 20hr/work restriction is a Tier4/Student visa restriction, if change visas, you're no longer bound by the rules of the former visa |

I need insights from the experienced peeps on this forum. I got a job offer from NHS to work as a Data Analyst accompanied with Tier2 /sponsorship visa. I currently work as an IT service desk technician in a private company and I must say, it’s wonderful working here (my current company). My boss put in a word for me and the company is ready to sponsor me so they intend to put in an application to the home office to be a sponsorship licensed employer so I can be sponsored. Also, I’ll move to another department to work as a Data Analyst. I really have no Idea how the NHS works but would like to hear from experienced folks. If you were in my shoes, what will you do? Thanks Take the NHS job. Private sector might pay better, but could also drop you at short notice especially with the current economic situation. With NHS you’re like a tenured professor, na you go tire. |
