tbaba1234: I did not label Ekpo and Oliha as 'mediocre' . They were more of the hardworking type of midfielders not creators per se. We still got goals in spite of that. That does not make them mediocre.
Thankfully, you acknowledged his ability to convert half chances to goals. It is something we lack in our team.
A prime and on form Yekini will still score in this team because his movement was good, created spaces for himself and could run with the ball if he needed to.
Yes, we need creative players or we need to learn to play to the strengths of our current attackers. We do not cross the ball enough from the wings. I love your last paragraph, why not Kalu Samuel or Peter Olayinka cos they are good crosser |

95% pass accuracy 5 tackles won 3 clearances 2 interceptions
Solid performance, we need him to transfer this kind of performance to the super eagles because his friendly performances was not good enough. Yes your last paragraph said it all. |

tbaba1234: This is not true..
Did you see the kinds of runs Yekini made? You do not need a great midfield wizard to find him.. Yekini did not always have a great midfield. Friday Ekpo and Oliha were more of the hardworking types. Our forward line right now is fairly static and does not offer those options. How many times do you see runs behind the defence? Look at cristiano's first goal against Juve, did you see his run to the near post.. The movement is lacking. It is those little things that create opportunities. Put better movement and the midfield does not have to be great as the striker is giving them a plethora of options. Sir i disagree,I watched Yekini from 1983 till he left eagles in 1998 and using Ekpo and Oliha to butress your point on Yekini not acceptable to me. Rashidi Yekini at 1984 Afcon had Muda Lawal,Ademola Adeshina and Henry Nwosu with Humphrey Edobor doing it for him. In the mid 80s Samson Siasia came into the scene and contributed a lot to Yekini goal prowess with Ademola Adeshina and Henry Nwosu in the midfield with assistance from Folorunsho Okenla,Wole Odegbami,Sam Okwaraji,Bunmi Adigun,Augustine Igbinabaro especially during qualifier for Seoul 88 and Maroc 88 and proper tournament. In the 90s when Yekini had glorious career, players like Daniel Amokachie, Finidi George,Emma Amuneke,Austin Okocha and Sunday Oliseh contributed immensely to Yekini rise. Rashidi Yekini had the best of midfielders in the 80s and 90s even Ekpo and Oliha are not mediocre as you portrayed it,pls try and watch Ekpo against Senegal at Senegal 92. Truly Yekini was a very prolific goalscorer who has the witt and power to outpace any defenders and very good in converting half chances and Ighalo goal against Cameroon remind me of great Yekini. Sir the solutions is given Ebere Eze,Ajagun,Kelechi Nwakili, Alhassan Muzzam chance to slug it out and complement Mikel in the team instead of all theses DMs we are carrying about, except this is done our strikers we continue to struggle. |

Mujtahida: You hate reading about link up play but you want goals. Okay oo Thank you,I don't know why we keep on deceiving ourselves cos i don't see any striker out there better than Nacho and Ighalo for now but instead for us to address the main issue which is our midfield we keep on hammering our strikers, forgetting that what happened against Poland and Serbia happened against South Africa and someone was missing which is Mikel and instead of addressing the issue we are suggesting strikers and where are the strikers? |

Joebie: While the argument can be made that Umar has improved, Ajagun has been quite consistent and I would support his inclusion in the 35 man list as well. The question should be who are his competition, and can he give them a good fight? It will definitely raise the standard in camp irrespective of whether he makes the final cut or not. Umar will bring good competition as well. Onyekuru will. Dessers might.
Modified And we need to focus on recent form in our discussion, unless of course a player can borrow his form of 5 years ago. Agree |

andrew444: What defender did he take ? Are you suggesting or you watch him play or you even saw his stats ? Someone that was not given chance to play so when did he take on defenders ?
He managed 7 match in bologna for a full season and no goals,in Torino only 3 match in a half season? That chance is not enough to take on defenders or even get a goal
And times I m surprised by this thread by the caliber of players you will call to be invited, son because at nac Breda 3 goals in 5 matches he should be included? There is one thing that keep on baffling me here, double standard, just checked Umar Sadiq professional record so far, really surprised that some believe he has something to offer than Ideye and funny enough better than Ighalo?fallacies Cyril Dessers started his professional career in Belgium with a lowly club where he had good youth football before moving to Lokeren with 25 appearance with no goal for two season and moved to Nec breda in dutch division two with awesome performance and snapped up by Utrecht, but so far couldn't tie a regular shirt though 7 goals in 17 appearance but some believe he is the answer,no issue he can be a good option. But telling me Ajagun at 25 has passed his prime but Dessers at 25 still has a lot to offer, why double standard in passing comments on our bona fide players who are doing well. |

My point is that I really don't care about what happened 8 years ago. What has Martins done post kenya match till date in the GWG? OK getting your point but how many calls did he get post 2010. I remember he got one during Kesh' s erai and was not convincing enough and Oliseh as a manager. But i think Martins and Yakubu did fairly enough in their eagles career. |

Mikel was a boss in that game but then, of course, it's Mikel the bad guy. He wasn't Okocha... Bla bla bla... Remember Yakubu had a goal in that game but they both turned out lame duck at the WC. tbaba1234: For the kind of team, Kayode played for, he should have had more games. He had a lot of opportunities but for a striker, if you are not scoring, you will be benched.
I think, Dessers and Umar could have at least gotten one goal if given the number of games Kayode had. Sir i disagree,Stuani is having a good run in la liga and no coach would bench such player. Kayode case was similar to Nacho at Leicester not getting playing time cos of Vardy and till today Nacho is finding it hard despite his quality, are we going to say Nacho lacks the pedigree. Kayode had two start for Girona with two assists and MOTM.I remember watching him against Deportivo with Uzoho in goal and am very happy as a Nigerian seeing two of them doing it,Kayode was awesome in that match. On Umar and Dessers i don't want to use 'IF' so nothing to say cos i know the quality of Dutch league. |

Humility017: I think you should say that to yourself... if you think that Ighalo and Martins who could barely pass the mark of 20 goals a season despite the game time in a Chinese league with mediocre Chinese players....could do same in netherland then you have to think again....
I still remember how Wolfsburg under 23 team whipped mikel's team....during preseason...you can Google the Chinese teams preseason result with small European clubs to see how they were grossly beaten...and you think so old legs can replicate same performance of old in the dutch league.... you are currently living in the past....
the dutch league defenders might be very poor...but not as bad as those Chinese players...... Sir you are getting it wrong on Martins and Ighalo, pls give them little respect they deserves. These guys did not start from Chinese league, better for you to look back before they moved to Chinese league. Try and ask yourself why we couldn't get a good AM to slug it out with Mikel who also play in China. Did you know Brazil qualification to WC involved China based players. Sir you mixed things up that are not justifiable in analysing Martins and Ighalo and try to always balance things up. |
