I believe I was the one telling everybody that Shehu has no business in a 3-5-2 except as a DMF remember? So of course teams change when tactics change. I mean Spain came to the Euro final and decided to play a 4-6-0 and changed one or two first team players in the final oh. I also remember that in Luis Enrique's first classico he decided to field Xavi who was no longer part of the first XI, it backfired sha but I get your point totally.

However, I am not ok with the fact that everybody has been pointing out that we need the best from Ndidi etc etc. What about getting the best from Onazi? I mean getting the best from Onazi gave us an Afcon winners medal as well as a world cup round of 16 berth. Getting the best out of Ndidi gave us a stalemate against Senegal and one of the poorest first period in recent memory against Argentina
Thank you Mike,Ndidi sentiments outshine our beautiful discussion cos it centred on how Onazi has been limiting Ndidi performance in eagles which is uncalled for.

Spain line up changed in Euro cup final due to injury

The question is do we need to change our team due to our opponent tactics even if they are performing or do you think beating Croatia then Rohr would change his lineup against Iceland barely any unjury.

Thank God you can see that that combo doesn't work.

Nobody is beating or blaming Onazi. Not at all. I have harped on the fact that the best combination is the one that brings out the best in the both of them. Whether it's Ogu combined with Onazi or Ndidi and Ogu or even Etebo. What I do know is that that combination doesn't work seamlessly and we cannot for the sake of doing the done thing or that this is the way it's always been never try something different.

Let me ask you a simple question:do you think that playing the same tactics suits all the players? And can or should we play the same players with the same tactics all through the tournament?
As a player you must be able to adapt to all tactics if you want to succeed as a player.

My man we are not saying using the same set of players all through, pls try and read icon4s comment.

I don't think it would be advisable beating Croatia and cos Iceland brings different tactics then we distort our performing lineup, again beating Iceland and Argentina brings up another tactics,we changes our team again, it's not done that way.

Would you field Shehu in a 5-3-2 formation just because you cannot change a winning team?

The point is simple: your first eleven remains SUBSTANTIALLY the same. One or two players just for dynamism doesn't change it if you have a good bench

Age issue again, pls don't let us go nto that cos i can tell you those who really used good age are the likes of Christian Chuckwu,Muda Lawal,Segun Odegbami, Adokiye Aimesemeika, Felix Owolabi,Stephen Keshi,Peter Rufai,Austin Eguavoen.

On marriage, married older lady is not a point to determine someone's age, hope you remember someone like RMD married very older MEE of defunct classique in the 90s,Ali Baba married older Patrician Leon in early 2000,Darey Art Alade married older lady,so not a point

Pls did you know the age Ahmed Musa got married even those with real age like Keshi,Eguavoen,Rufai married after secondary school so sometimes it depends on individual decision.

I would give you a classic example sir, would you be using 100% of the same personnel if we played our 1st 2 games with a 4-2-3-1 and we switch to a 3-5-2 for the Argentinean game, this is part of the dynamism and unpredictability we have been talking about..

Keep your opponents guessing what your approach would be..if they know all we are good at is 4-2-3-1, they would have planned well before game to neutralize this..
Sir it's possible using the same set of players for different formation, pls go and do your research very well on teams formations during tournament.

Definitely nothing is cast in stone. It is no law that you must execute all your 3 group games with 100% same players. Neither is it law that you must make changes to the starting list for each game.

A team goes into a tournament having first choice players for each role.

But several factors can lead to alterations in the starting line up.

1. A regular performer might get injured in the first game and may not have recovered fully for the second game.

2. A first choice Striker may fail to hit the back of the net only for the second choice striker to come in and score goals. In several of such cases the original first choice will not start the next game. Just also like another outfield player may not have a good game and his backup comes in and the game changes.

3. A first choice goalie may have a bad day in the office and the second choice brought in to replace him in the next game.

4. A team may get whipped and the coaches may need to sacrifice 1,2 or 3 players just to switch tactics.

5. A player may get suspended. Or a key player may be at the risk of missing a potential crucial next round game. That player may be rested in the 3rd group game and another player starts in his place.

6. A team may have qualified for the next round with one game to spare. It may be time to rotate the squad.

Typically, for national team coaches, when you execute your first game with your first choice players and none of the conditions I listed above took place. And your team played well and won handsomely. You may want to start that next game with the same players and same formation 100% irrespective of the strength of the next opponent . One of the basic rudiments of coaching is "you don't change a winning team".

As you rightly quoted football is dynamic. There is a high chance of one of the 1-6 situations above happening in a team which means teams hardly execute the games with 100% the same lineup.
Thank you for this, may they willl understand bettter now

Well, we'd see. I hope you read what I wrote about Gerrard and Lampard following Asha80's cue? To me it's easy to see why Ogu brings in balance. Onazi and Ndidi are basically the same kind of players. So if Rohr decides to go by his WCQ approach good and fine but just remember that African teams during qualifiers no be WC oo
Definitely it would be different ball game at WC but remember we have seen great performances from Africa teams at WC,Ghana missed Semi final by whiske, thanks to Suarez intentional handled goal bound ball,Senegal against all odds beat defendiy champion France and reached qtr final,Cameroon made Italian 90 a memorable one and Nigeria was fantastic against at US 94.

My man we have a team to shake the world, its left for Rohr to get it right and give us a good team to watch, nothing more.

England never achieved much with Gerrard and Lampard despite the fact that these were two of the greatest midfield Generals of the modern game. England almost always fielded the two of them. I presume their thinking would have been like: 'yeah we have the two best midfielders, we must use two of them all the time'.
Maybe if they had the courage to drop one for the other as sub it would have given room for a different kind of player with different ability to add something to their game rather than Gerrard and Lampard who were basically the same kind of players.
Now you are talking.

If you want to base it on similar style, fine one can be dropped and absorbs a player with different style that would give the team balance, meaning Ndidi-Ogu would be our starting combo irrespective of opponent.

Football in 96 is not the same as football in 2018. Ask Mourinho, he will tell you. There was no in depth data analysis of players in 96. Now they study how you nod, how you run, your pace, your total body structure, movement, how you shoot, etc.

Oliseh Okocha combination was good and doesn't fit the situation we are discussing. Oliseh and Okocha are two different types of players.

Did we ever combine Okocha and Oruma? If we ever did then that's the kind of combination you should use to mirror our discussion on Ndidi and Onazi combination. We are talking about Ndidi/Onazi combination that if we really want to be truthful limits Ndidi. It's clear to see. The best combination is the one that brings out the best in both players.
Truly football has changed but the basic factor about football will never changed,so try and read my comments all over again may be you would understand me better cos my point is simple,.

It's either Rohr settled for Ndidi- Onazi or Ndidi - Ogu/Etebo but changing the combo based on opponent not ideal and till today in any competition serious coach don't toil that line, pls do you research.

The major issue now,we have seen Onazi-Ndidi during WC qualifier and Ndidi- Ogu in friendlies and Algeria match but some believe better to have Ndidi- Ogu cos Ndidi seems to function well but Onazi limiting Ndidi.

My man it's left for Rohr to decide but i can bet it with anyone that what i happened during WC qualifier would repeat itself, maintaining his team irrespective of opponent except bad performance occurs.

Did we ever combined Oruma and Okocha? No cos it's either Olishe - Okocha and others but mind you it happened against Argentina when Bonfrere Jo brought Oruma in,this is the type of changes am talking about,it can only happen during matches.

Are you saying Rohr is not getting it right using Ndidi and Onazi together

I disagree sir..In a world cup that is a tournament, there is always best combination to neutralize your opposition..and that's also part of the unpredictability in a team..

If your team is really good, you can only have probably 90% sure bankers for first 11..one or two players can be injected for tactical reasons..this is how u know a good team..

That is the reason why I'm really hopeful for this team because of the competition in the team
Pls try and read my comment very well then you will understand my point.

Pls go and do your research on our Atlanta 96 team of Olishe - Okocha combo,it took a card before Lawal came into the picture, pairing Okocha in the semi final

In the final Olishe came back and paired Okocha, meaning Okocha - Olishe was the first team combo irrespective of the opponent formation.

Throughout Atlanta 96 our combo was Olishe-Okocha except semi final when Olishe was ruled out.

Do you know how many players Italy used in 2006? Do you know how many players Brazil used in 94? I think first eleven means you have substantially the same players in every game. It doesn't mean you must use the same players for every game.
No,first eleven mean your super regular irrespective of opponent.

The team can only be tampered with due to poor performances, injuries and card related issues but changing one or two players due to opponent is not realistic.

Using many players by Brazil or Italy at WC might be due to tactical changes from the bench during matches cos their starting eleven remained unchanged except for injuries or card related issues, pls go and check it.

My man for efficient,Rohr must either settled for Ndidi- Onazi or Ndidi- Ogu but changing the combination just cos of opponent, not that way.

Being professional does not mean a player can play just about everywhere or that a player doesn't have a position that brings out his best.

I disagree too that Ndidi has had a slow start. He flourishes when he is allowed to rove. And incidentally that's the same position Onazi plays. How can Ndidi be the tackling machines if he sits to cover the defence?

I deliberately raised the Ndidi/Onazi debate cos the thread was threadbare as if we are on holiday. We are just robbing minds.

I don't think anyone's blaming Onazi. It's clear to see that that combination doesn't gell. Recall in the friendly against Senegal. Ndidi came alive when Onazi was injured and Ogu came in. Again in the friendly against Argentina he really posted a superb play. In fact I used to be like this Ndidi is holding back his Leicester game when he plays for the Eagles but in that game I saw how good he is. I am not by this blaming Onazi or saying he should make way for Ndidi. It's about having the best combination for each opponent and it's been opined here that for some games Ndidi-Onazi combination might be the best.

This is not a for Ndidi or aga Onazi debate. It's a debate about our best midfield combination.
My man there is nothing like having best combination for each opponent, your first eleven must be able to withstand any opponent,so no need to distort team just based on opposition,it's not done that way though sometimes it might be necessary, just like joker.

Yea that is true, too be honest, I don't want the coach to set up a formation that would limit Ndidi..the guys work rate could unbalance any opposition..popping up in every areas that need personnel..

In fact against some opposition that might even just sit deep and not really attack through the centre, I would suggest a double pivot of Mikel and Ndidi...mikel sits deep and dictates the pace of the game, Ndidi roams as usual and Iwobi or Iheanacho does his thing has an amf or ss...but I don't think Odogwu would wanna play dmf..he has been enjoying that amf so much, its hard to take it from him..
....meaning Onazi is a problem and Ogu is a solution to Ndidi level of performance on the field but national team is not a place where one player determine the functionality of other player.

They are professionals and no matter what they must be solid irrespective of whom they are paired with,so the issue of Onazi - Ndidi combo is becoming over flog and we need to take it cool on these guys especially Onazi.

Ndidi had a slow start in eagles and Onazi is not the issue,no need to blame any player for others, even in Leicester we are seeing greatly improved Ndidi, let's see what would come out of upcoming friendlies, then Rohr would decide on his team but for now it's Ndidi - Onazi combo.

Pictures would not be a good yardstick to use in judging. If anything the 85 set looks 'older'. But this is because a 17 year old in 1985 had more muscular build than a 17 year old of today. A better or safer way to judge by duration of the players in a set in the game notwithstanding the fact that not all of them go ahead to have professional football careers. Look at the 93 set. Kanu, Oruma, Celestine played top flight professional football for long which underlies the fact that they were very young as at 93. Even at Atlanta 96, they looked young.
Sometimes age doesn't determine the longevity of a player but the opportunity and development.

Kanu had a great opportunity than the others and this was made possible by Westerhoff who really fell in love with Kanu's game right from Mauritius 93 U 21 team that had the likes of Andrew Aikhomogbe,Taribo West,Emma Teberen, and Austin Okocha

If it's today a lot would questioned Kanu inclusion in U 17 team after participated in U 21 team, remember Kanu and Emma Babayaro were moved to U 17 team to save the team after very bad result. The two belonged to failed U 21 Mauritius team.

Honestly i don't want to go to Kanu's age cos i watched the same Kanu playing for Iwuanyanwu Nationale against Ranchers bees in FA cup match in 1991/92 but Kanu's talent not age gave him longevity in the game.

Talents also pushed Wilson Oruma not age but i can tell you Celestine Babayaro was more younger than the rest of 93 squad.

Yes o bros,I will consider onyekuru ahead of ideye and nwakaeme,I also don't see kayode going to the World Cup talk less of taking him as 3rd striker, the guy is not playing for a girona team so he can't be at the World Cup,even osimhen is having little game game at Wolfsburg he even started last weekend and came as a sub against Bayern yesterday,as for ideye suddenly he is back in the radar, lol,as my guy don join malaga come score yesterday,I trust me peeps in this thread.
My comment is based on strikers available for us not even based on their club performance and best way for me is to.pick those that Rohr extends invitation to during qualifiers which i think were Brown Ideye,Nwakaeme,Kayode Olarewaju even Aron Samuel.

This is the way i analyse my point cos till today i still consider Akpeyi as Rohr player irrespective what people are saying,so considering Ideye or Kayode for third striker position in 23 man list is still in order.

Pls tell me any Nigeria top striker(No 9)painting Europe with goals

Oyekwuru over Ideye and Nwakaeme as top striker or what?cos Rohr will never consider such, hope you remember when he came in for Nwakaeme,Iheanacho need to move to Nwakaeme position and Oyekwuru to left side, this is to tell you Rohr doesn't consider him as top striker.

I think you want to absolve Oyekwuru without dropping any of Victor Moses,Simeon Moses, Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa, not possible,he just have to slug it out in camp with these aforementioned players.

The third striker is for grab and the best in camp and during friendlies would surely take it and it can be anyone but Nwakaeme and Ideye are in forefront,5 months to go the Aaron Samuel,Kayode,Olarewaju, Onuachu Peter,Victor Osimhen, Junior Ajayi even my fat Isaac Success can grab it.

My major point is third striker which i don't think Rohr would consider Oyekwuru for cos you mentioned him.

So Oyekwuru have Victor Moses,Simeon Moses,Alex Iwobi and Ahmed Musa to compete with meaning that one must be dropped for him to make the team, huge task.

The third striker apart from Ighalo and Iheanacho have to be from Nwakaeme,Ideye and Kayode, mentioning Nwakaeme,Ideye and Kayode was based on being part of Rohr team during qualifier nothing more, hope you read my line on Martins,i said i don't see his calling happening.

He need to loose kilo if he want to get into the Malaga team, and for your information rohr 2 sure strikers are already on the plane which is ighalo and nacho...I repeat my self success will not go to the World Cup,if success go to the World Cup then what will you say of onyekuru because he will be fit before then,we cannot carry a player who has not been serious all season to the World Cup,this is not 2014 where a Gabriel Ruben that lack match fitness makes the cut,I will rather pick a Samuel Kalu of gent than success.
Yes Ighalo and Iheanacho even Oyekwuru we need to fight for his place with Simeon Moses, Ahmed Musa,Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi but third main striker remain a battle between Ideye,Nwakaeme, Kayode if possible Martins which I don't see is happening,Success making it is a very huge task but need to get into shape first.
