oz4real83: No matter what anybody says, one thing I know is that most of our leaders stole even more than Abacha. There is much focus on Abacha because he is dead. IBB's unaccounted for $12b, OBJ's untreacable $16B power spending and the rest are more than what Abacha stole. The school feeding programmes when pupils are on break, untraceable social investment programmes gulping billions in PMB's administration. We can't even talk about Gej and the missing oil billions. Some of those are sensationalized. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to change the narrative once but the facts, the exaggerated and the falsehood gets into the public space. |

In fact it was the profligacy that characterized much the Gowon years where public officials were using exotic high end cars (like the benz) that made OBJ make the directive. Better piking - spot on |

chozzy: You're just ignorant of how the rail projects work. It's not about PDP or APC.
Remember, these projects are not funded by Buhari's FG. The Chinese govt finances them directly from Beijing so, what will make them delay? China is not known to abandon projects.
The Ajaokuta - Itakpe - Warri line was over 75% completed when GEJ left office. Chinese CCEC were still working when Buhari/Amaechi took over in 2015.
The Abuja - Kaduna line was nearly 100% completed when GEJ left office. The only remaining thing Amaechi did was the completion of the Idu terminal which the Catholic Church filed a law suit against FG for forcefully taking over their land.
GEJ started the Kaduna - Abuja line in 2011 and by December 2015 it was fully completed. The Chinese govt did not delay that project. The project did not last 10yrs, you lied. GEJ also started the Ajaokuta - Itakpe - Warri line in 2013. It's been completed since 2018. China does not unnecessarily delay projects.
.
Did you just say GEJ started the Ajaokuta - Itakpe - Warri rail line. I don't know how old you are, but that line is probably older than you. |

Sports › Re: The Reasons Why Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua Will Always Be in Nigeria by kolexy(m): 5:03pm On Feb 22, 2020 |
Crispels: I have read a lot of comments on Nairaland and other social media platforms about the visit and activities of World Boxing Heavyweight Champion -Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua in Nigeria.
Most Nigerians who migrated abroad will understand how powerful one’s root and source are. For instance, I never knew how much I love Nigeria until after I moved to the United States for graduate school. It was then I began to miss the food, the music, the culture and uniqueness of Nigeria. In the U.S, I follow Nigerian news and listen to Nigerian music way more religiously than I ever did when I was living right inside Nigeria. There is no day I don’t remember and think about Nigeria because that is my root and source.
Anthony Joshua understands the important roles ancestors and roots play in the destiny of Africans. That explains why he even came to Nigeria with his son! He is also trying to make sure that his son(named Temiloluwa) also stay connected to his root and ancestors. Many Nigerians think things are terrible in the country(Anthony Joshua knows about all the problems facing Nigeria - he had his secondary school in Ogun State) but home will always be home; no matter what. No matter where you migrate to, they will always trace your roots back to Nigeria - so the country is forever your home. There are lots of strengths and inspiration that can be drawn from embracing one’s roots and ancestors. When the chips are down and things become tough, remembering the impossible struggles of your ancestors, the difficult stories of people in Lagos(or your local community) can inspire you to brave the odds and fight relentlessly until you win.
Even Deontay Wilder has claimed he is of Nigerian descent. This means he has gone through some self reflections and he has realized that his unusual strength comes from his ancestors who he has traced to Nigeria.
When Anthony Joshua wanted to reclaim his belts some weeks ago, he made his way into the ring with his favorite Fela Anikulapo’s music. He will always visit the Fela Shrine because it reminds him of his childhood in Nigeria. He will always visit Makoko(one of the worst slums in Nigeria) because that is where people fight with all their heart and soul - even though they are not paid to and they do so with enormous passion and risks. He will always claim Sagamu because that is where his ancestors hail from. With these stories, experiences and prayers - Anthony Joshua will continue to enjoy the blessings and goodwill of his ancestors, his source and his root. That is the spirit he wants!
When Joshua met with the Nigerian government, people complained. Now he has returned to his source to connect with his childhood memories and people are still complaining. To be honest, how many Nigerians can afford to fly to different locations to support Anthony Joshua during his boxing matches? In his last match with Ruiz, over 10,000 British flew to Saudi Arabia to support Joshua. How many Naija people go Saudi to support am? Many of you even stayed online to post nonsensical comments about his performance.
Yet, he is home to celebrate his success with Makoko children because their sprit, stories and memories keep him going.
Guys, don’t ever forget your root and source - it is arguably your greatest strength. Many wont understand your post, but i clearly do, even though i have never stayed outside Nigeria longer than 3 weeks. Schooling in Port Harcourt, far away from my secondary school friends was the first thing that brought me close to my roots. I never saw myself as Yoruba, i was just a kid. Here i was in PH, with totally different people. Even the ibo folks in my secondary school were just like me, none cared about who was Yoruba, Ibo or from wherever, we were just kids. Schooling in PH, i started developing interest in events in my state, i knew about events there more than my cousins back home. So much so that i was very involved in the 2003 election. We are indeed proud of AJ |

Kwanza: Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday said it has sacked over 600 members of staff over alleged irregular employment, overage and sundry other allegations.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edward Olanipekun, said the decision of the university council followed adoption on Thursday of the audit report carried out by a group of external auditors.
Olanipekun, who addressed journalists on resolution of the council meeting in Ado-Ekiti, said the sacking would save about N200m for the university monthly.
He said that the general staff audit “was sequel to the findings in the Report of the Visitation Panel as accepted by the Government White Paper to the university, which noted, among other things, that there were over-staffing, redundancy and personnel misalignment in virtually all the sections of the university and which astronomically increased the wage bill beyond its capacity to pay.”
Olanipekun, who did not give the exact number of affected workers, said, “228 members of staff could not produce or show evidence of Primary School Leaving Certificate.
“There were some ghost workers whose names were found on the university payroll without being on the university nominal role.
“Some members of staff presented falsified birth and educational certificates.
“Some of the members of staff lacked the required basic educational qualification.
“Some members of staff were illegally retained in the university services after having been due to retire. “There are other cases of over aged staff.
“The decision to disengage the affected workers was after due consideration of the issues involved and in the overall best interest of the university to be properly positioned for local relevance and global competitiveness.”

ryloy: JIM OVIA WITHDRAWS FROM THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM
Following the hypersensitivity of the issues surrounding the lives and well-being of Nigerian citizens living in South Africa and to contribute his voice against the poor state of security regarding foreign nationals living in Africa, the Founder/Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia has withdrawn from further activities at the World Economic Forum Africa 2019, taking place in Cape Town, South Africa.
Before taking his exit, Mr. Ovia stressed the need for youth empowerment and better government policies to curb continual attacks on persons living within and outside Africa. He belaboured that until positive change towards collective growth happens on this front, the continent would not reach its potential.
Mr. Ovia added that full support should be rendered in vocational education of the young persons living in not just Nigeria but Africa. According to him, the Jim Ovia Foundation has taken up a stance on this issue, having empowered over 3,500 students and entrepreneurs since its inception. He called on other members of the private sector to join hands and solve this menace plaguing the African continent. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/jimoviafoundation_youthempowerment-forafrica-activity-6575262599296897024-tnko The slowpoke chairman of a major bank |
