The Nigerian army has repeatedly claimed that insurgency had been largely defeated and frequently underplayed any losses.

Militants from the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihād, have released pictures of four soldiers including Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu killed by the group during an ambush on troops in Bulguma, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

ISWAP had in a statement on Sunday claimed 17 Nigerian soldiers were killed during two attacks on the LGA.


According to the group, 13 soldiers were killed when its fighters attacked troops at a military base in Askira town while four others were killed during an ambush at Bulguma, a few kilometres from Askira.

However, the Islamic terror group on Wednesday released a picture showing four bodies of dead soldiers including that of Brigadier General Zirkusu killed in Bulguma.

Zirkusu, until his death, was the commander of the 28 Task Force in Chibok.

He was said to have mobilised his men to provide reinforcement in Askira, which was under attack but his team was ambushed on their way to provide support for the soldiers battling the insurgents.

The insurgents also displayed a Saurer 4K 4FA armoured tank and Isotrex Phantom 2 APC captured from the army.

The Saurer 4K 4FA is an Austrian armoured personnel carrier with caterpillar tracks while Isotrex Phantom 2 is a new version of the 4×4 B6 armoured personnel carriers. Other than a 5-door configuration, with a 360° gun turret and with two or three escape hatches, the Isotrex Manufacturing allows customers to customize the vehicles for the special client's needs and requirements.

SaharaReporters had reported that ISWAP fighters on Saturday engaged Nigerian troops in a gun battle at a military base in Askira, Borno State.

Some civilians had said they sighted the terrorists in a long convoy of gun trucks along Ngude axis towards Askira. The civilians added that they reported the movement of the terrorists to security forces but no action was taken before the deadly group stormed Askira town hours later.

Since the death of JAS leader, Abubakar Shekau, ISWAP has been consolidating its grip in locations around Lake Chad.

There are different configurations for MRAP's sometimes mission specific. But I have NEVER EVER seen where you have specific specialty designed MRAP for senior officers your diction a commander.

Will we ever know the aTRUTH one TRUTH that is irrefutable is that the NA is very capable of telling bare faced lies.

I remember years ago when they abandoned there MRAP and other vehicles and ran into Cameroon. It was explained as a tactical retreat I guess to outflank the enemy.

At the very least any Armoured vehicle should have HMG. So why didn’t the gunners on the MRAP take out the enemy’s MRAP with the turreted HMG it’s stabilized and our trained soldiers should be able to have far better accuracy against ISWAP.

Someone suggested that they ran out of ammunition. That seems highly unlikely as they were going as reinforcements to assist there comrades already engaged with the enemy.

One thing I notice about the NA they go on the same roads day day out in long convoys in the belief of strength in numbers.

In Afghanistan and Iraq in general allied forces never if possible go on the same routes regularly. Mostly yet go off road and travel at night no lights. Just thermal imaging and NVG.

If this is true and Rohr has been sacked .

These events put to question the quality and efficacy of our battlefield strategy and management in the first instance.

Then we begin to wonder about the level and quality of our equipment.

Getting ambushed should not be a surprise because it's expected you are therefore prepared with an offensive strategy to mitigate against your adversary.

NOTHING these days surprises me about the NA. Not too long ago I watched how the NA attached a HMG to a BTR4 APC in the most rudimentary way. It was claimed we couldn't get the ammunition required for the 30mm guns on the RWS. That rendered this once near IFV a mere tin box with HMG.

To be told that a Brigadier General had to ram the enemy's MRAP to stop it. That sounds very desperate Dan, It beggars belief. So we did not have the basic weaponry to stop an MRAP.

To name just a few , then you have club managers we who are signed to particular agencies. That gives players signed to those same agencies first choice undue advantage to that club. It is a conflict of interest but people in football accept it as normal.

Then you have the players who are in football clubs who have agencies themselves or by proxy. They then create a situation where they are the preferred agent for the club.

Youth players not signed to the " preferred agent" may find themselves at a distinct disadvantage. Particularly for opportunities in the first team.

How long are we gonna wait or make politicians see the need to fund the military especially the Army? Exploring other options shouldn't be out of the table, it's a matter of national security. It is useless recruiting/training thousands into the military w/o plan to properly cater for their welfare and equipments. The edge Israel have over Arab nations is nothing but cutting edge technology and equipments not really numbers though if we have both it would be excellent.
I won't be surprised if we later get to hear that the Brig.Gen that was KIA was going for that reinforcement in a convoy of Toyota Hilux .

Phil Foden was part of the squad for over two seasons without reasonable playing time. Training under a top coach and with top players. Now he has exploded into a very top player. That is the point.

He trained with U23 mostly to be honest, but even then he was not outstanding. Strong yes, super fast and technical I am sorry No.

There were better boys and younger than him there.

Those boys who were outstanding got promoted to the first team. Two defender CB went from U23 to the first team , when all three first CB got injured.

It's what you do in the youth teams that gives you a bridge to the first team. And then when you get the opportunity or chance do you utilize and make a name for yourself.

Saka got a chance at Arsenal as a 16 year old and claimed a permanent position he just turned 20 a month ago . And he has played 3 competitive season s in the EPL already and is a key player for Arsenal and England national team.

So your proposition about endless training and drills doesn't really cut it for me .

If l look at Liverpool Youth team , my prediction are for a certain 18 year old midfielder James Balagizi, to be the next big thing. It may not happen but that's my view .

A lot of the U23 players will train with the first team and if they impress they get in. Some do it immediately by some needs lots of drilling ( according to you )

In my opinion it's not so deep, managers have preferences and that shows in their selections.

The point is training and growing in a big club. Not getting bought by a big club and shipped on loan due to lack of work permit.

Actually Awoniyi trained day in and day out at Liverpool , I saw him and talked with him. Technically speaking he was not outstanding and not rated highly .

Nwakali trained with Arsenal youth teams but once again wasn't outstanding.

Omeruah was relegated to training with U18 at Chelsea at one stage .

I wish I could take you round the English football elite academies. And you will be very surprised by at the level of the technical coaching that is put into 9/10 year olds . The days of kick and rush are completely over. Look at the level of technicality of young English players now is very different.

I think a lot of our boys are technically deficient on arrival at elite academies and have a lot of catching up to do. As a consequence are at a distinct disadvantage.

Awaziem has good passes, crosses and defends excellently. He has the eyes of an eagle and the ruggedness of a lion.

Your continuous , consistent and outstanding club performances is what should get you noticed for national team selection.

Awaziem couldn't cut it at Porto and was an add on for the club relegated to Porto B.

He then gets a move to Nantes in the French league,he was such a Lion � and so eagle eyed, nobody, not even PSG could afford him. He then as a reflection of outstanding performance went to the highly esteemed Turkish league with Caykur Rizespor.

After outstanding performances he was rewarded with a move to a top side in La Liga with Leganes unfortunately relegated. Once again he exceeded all expectations and went back to Porto who felt he was too good and sent him to Boavista.

He was so exceptional he has been rewarded with another move back to the esteemed Turkish league with Alanyaspor.

I did Balogun a disservice , by saying the Scottish League is not so competitive. However,this esteemed Turkish league by quite a few here is 9 places below the Scottish League rated no 18 in Europe.

The question is why if he is good he is continuously rewarded with moves to Turkey.

In the flatlands that the northeast is, elevation isn't much of an advantage when you can see kilometers away while on level ground. Both sides will see each other several minutes before they can engage each other. Except of course the highlands near the mandara mountains.
Also, as long as you have a clear line of sight and your aim is true, you will hit your targets conveniently.

I just saw the movie "The Outpost" and I wonder, can't we have something like that for defence perimeters. Jumbo jute bags reinforced with webbed iron nets and filled with dirt.

Over the years NOBODY digs trenches anymore not in this modern day. It's like comparing DOS to WINDOWS 10, they are world's apart. And particularly not for forward operating bases.

The HESCO container system see pics below. Very easy to manufacture locally it's a combination of of of wire mesh around , steel framework ( easily collapsible) and synthetic fibre bag ( very thick Ghana must go bag )

You can place them on top of each other and get up 6 metres of elevation and even higher very easily.

For the thermal imaging camera to be really effective you need Elevation, just two metres elevation and you increase greatly your spatial view all round .

Second thing, it's night time and you don't even have a optic sights, laser finder , it's pitch dark you will see nothing.
