DubaiLandLord1:
There was a mild drama at the Senate, on Tuesday, as two lawmakers walked out on the Committee on Army over alleged lopsided recruitment in the Nigerian Army.

The panel had invited the Commandant of Nigerian Army on Training and Doctrine, Major General S.O Olabanji, for an interactive meeting.

But senators Ibrahim Danbaba (PDP, Sokoto) and Barinada Mpigi (PDP, Rivers) staged walkout when they were prevented from grilling the senior Army officer over allegation of lopsided recruitment carried out by the Army recently.

The acting chairman of the committee, Senator Abba Moro (PDP Benue), who presided over the meeting, ruled Danbaba out of order, saying “this meeting is not for such enquiry”.

Another committee member, Senator Barinada Mpigi (PDP, Rivers) raised the issue again, saying “lopsidedeness in recruitment is not an issue to be put aside or ruled against”.

But Senator Moro again ruled against the enquiry, insisting that the session was not for review of recruitment made by the Army but on tactical training and doctrine of men and officers.

“The questions being raised by my colleagues on alleged lopsided recruitments are being thrown to the wrong person. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Farouk Yahaya is the one who can do justice to such allegation or enquiry,” he said.

Irked by the insistence of Abba Moro that questions on recruitment should not be entertained at the session, Danbaba and Mpigi walked out of the meeting in anger.

Speaking to newsmen after, Senator Danbaba said he walked out of the meeting with Senator Mpigi because of dictatorial action of Senator Moro.

“He shouldn’t have ruled us out of order since the military man the question was directed to did not complain.

“The issue of marginalization in recruitment has never been responded to, it is part of the oversight process of the committee to ensure that whatever is to be done should be done to ensure Justice.

“The Nigerian army like any institution of government in Nigeria is supposed to comply with provisions of the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and that constitution has made it very clear that the issue of federal character and representation is paramount is a constitutional issue.

“I’m not blaming the army, the army has been performing very well, but at the same time the issue of recruitment is very important.

“I left the meeting, I stormed out with Mpigi because we were angry,” he said.

Reacting, Moro said he had no any regret for ruling Danbaba out of order as far as the issue of alleged lopsided recruitment was concerned .

“Danbaba and Mpigi’s questions were directed to a wrong person. What explanation were they expecting from Commander, Training and Doctrine Command on recruitment.

“Besides, the committee had tabled the issue before the Chief of Army Staff few months ago with response bordering on physical and medical reasons for those recruited and those who failed in the exercise.”

Part of the Nigerian problem is the depth of ineptitude that pervades our elected public officials.

Then add to that ineptitude, open and brazen corruption and outright fraudulent appropriation of public funds. This is the same Abba Moro that stole near £2 million of funds from the fake recruitment exercise for the Federal immigration service.

Now multiply the situation with a current government that refuses to uphold and respect the rule of law. And carries out its anti- corruption war with media spin not concrete actions.

And you can see why we are in this position.

Nonsense as usual...
Didn't Dennis struggle in the Budesliga? Is the Budesliga now tougher than the premier league by your logic?
Salah has also found it easier in the premier league than he did in the Serie A.. how about that??

You better rest... You have been exposed big time here.. You have no straws to cling on to anymore ..
You lack understandingand make a lot of arrant noise.

The attributes required to make it in the EPL are essentially technicality fused with strength and speed. These are NOT essential requirement for the slower, less Physical and less competitive La Liga, Seria A, Bundesliga and French league one.

As a consequence that attribute will not be put to the same use and with the same outcome delivery in Lesser leagues with less emphasis on speed and physicality.

Dennis is in a much better team that complements his attributes, technical ability fused with speed and strength. Don't forget it is still a team sport, you need better players by to get the best performance.

There are many more player's that didn't cut it in the EPL and found fame and outstanding commendation in the less competitive Bundesliga, Seria A, French league and La Liga.

There will be more EPL teams in the last 16 round of the Champions league and the Europe cup . Chelsea just flogged Juventus like small children 4-0.

So the matter is not for debate.

It be will be interesting to see Leicester Vs Napoli and see how far the EPL has progressed. Considering that Napoli is on the pinnacle of Italian football currently. If Leicester win ( which I doubt) then the matter will be settled.

Dennis Is Not Osimhen But He Can Do A Job For Nigeria
Tobie

2 days ago·5 min read

It was the 97th minute and he had just been shown a yellow card but he didn’t care too much and you couldn’t really blame him this time, nor would any Watford fan who was watching. It was a price too little to pay for how brilliant Emmanuel Dennis had been for 90 minutes and more. He was booked for celebrating excessively but who wouldn’t? Not after an excellent performance that culminated when he burst past Diogo Dalot a minute before and fired past David De Gea to earn Watford a deserved 4–1 win.
The ball had just hit the net when Dennis took off his shirt in front of a sorry De Gea. Sprinting towards the corner flag, he flung his black GPS tracking vest before sliding on his knees across the turf. Josh King, whose goal he had assisted met him and held his face with both hands. Still shirtless, Dennis performed briefly in front of the home fans. Minutes later, his coach Claudio Ranieri, with both arms spread was moving towards him, he was doing the same too and they locked in an embrace. Adekunle Gold stood in the stands, gloomy but watched on as his compatriot rounded off his team’s misery. Not just him, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wore an awkward smile, his time at Old Trafford was also rounding off, too. Dennis was bouncing and he was enjoying it but life hadn’t always been this way.

Dennis Emmanuel was sensational against Manchester United
After a dominant performance in the UEFA Champions League game in 2019, where he scored a brace against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and imitated Cristiano Ronaldo’s popular celebration two seasons ago, things had soon started to go awry for the 21-year old at the time. “The last year and a half weren’t easy for me,” Dennis admitted before joining FC Koln on loan in January. But life was going to become even more difficult in Germany. After nine appearances, including just six starts and no goals, Koln had begun to regret bringing him to the Bundesliga. “This was a bad transfer, that is my responsibility,” Horst Heldt admitted. Heldt was the sporting director at Koln. Indeed, when Watford announced the signing of Dennis, Goal.com published an article with the headline, “Why have Watford signed controversial forward?” Yet, at this time, Dennis has become the toast of Watford. He has scored four goals and assisted five more in 11 games and, more importantly, there are no problems with his attitude.

Dennis is one of the many Nigerian forwards excelling in Europe. The Africa Cup of Nations begins in two months and he would expect that his performances can earn him a call-up for the tournament in Cameroon. His door to the National team had been mostly shut by Gernot Rohr. But now, the German coach appears to have been shown the door by his employers. Beyond making the team, is Dennis good enough to start?

On Sunday, Victor Osimhen was taken off after 55 minutes by Luciano Spalleti after a clash of heads with Inter Milan’s Milan Skriniar. He left the pitch with a swollen eye and a black patch. His cheekbone looked fragile, too. Osimhen’s club had announced that he had left the pitch straight to the hospital for checks and scans. Then, they said he would need to undergo surgery. Many Nigerians had begun to fear the worst, and validly too. Osimhen had almost single-handedly helped Nigeria qualify for the World Cup playoffs, scoring four goals out of nine. Not just the goals, but he appeared the most passionate Nigerian player in those matches.
On Tuesday, Napoli announced again that the surgery was successful but he would be out for at least three months. Aha! Every fear had now been confirmed. Osimhen is effectively out of the Nations Cup. What happens to the country’s hopes of winning a fourth title?
There are Nigerian forwards in outstanding form at this moment but none has proven to be close in quality to Osimhen. Not many have been tried, to be fair. Even then, there is the country’s peculiar problem of a lack of inventive midfielders- with the ability to create chances. And yet, if there is any player with a style similar to Osimhen’s, it’s Dennis.

Dennis had admitted to being able to play “anywhere in a front three” and he has continuously shown that- at Club Brugge and Watford- especially this season. At times, he has switched positions with teammates, Ismaila Sarr and Josh King. It’s not just the goals that stand Osimhen out, but the work rate- the willingness to chase lost causes tenaciously and grapple for crumbs. This is a quality Dennis shares richly with Osimhen.
While his late goal against Manchester United last Saturday from a hopeful Foster goal kick proved just that, Dennis has recorded an average of 22.68 pressures this season, reminding you of a certain Roberto Firmino. The 24-year-old gives plenty in defence and his tackle rate of 2 per 90 minutes is also a testament. Dennis also wins a very good percentage of his aerial duels, winning at least 2.26 per 90 minutes- more than Osimhen’s 1.67. Dennis has shown to be able to link perfectly with teammates. On his Watford debut, he struck a fine partnership with Sarr. “I know the combination (with Sarr) will be very important for me if I am going to be the № 9 for the team, so I am really happy with the combination,” Dennis said. And against Manchester United, he combined effectively with King.

Dennis adds an extra quality of being able to go past players in tight spaces. He can go past players on the inside and on the outside. So far, this season, he has completed 2.07 dribbles per 90 in the Premier League. And while Osimhen edges him out considerably in shooting and accuracy, Dennis’ ability to comfortably retain possession, bring teammates into the play and create chances makes him a competent deputy.
The modern Nigerian forward has to be able to adapt. There are no meals to be served on a platter. And that, probably, makes Dennis special and important to the Super Eagles, now more than ever. Dennis can play football and Dennis can score.
Do you doubt it? Just ask Solskjaer.
The bold is ASSUMPTIVE not established or proven.

The EPL is the fastest and most competitive league in the World. What you my be able to do in Seria A you may not be able to replicate in the EPL.

You can ask Moise Keane .

Nacho has the 'touch' players like Salah, Messi, Ronaldinho etc have. The problem was that he became lazy. Refused to develop his fitness, work rate, pace, etc.

Osimhen is as gifted as Nacho, but in a different way. You don't have to have the touch to be gifted. Ronaldo doesn't have it, yet he is a GOAT.

One thing though I have noticed with Osimhen is that his ball control, especially with aerial balls, is special. Guy can trap any ball, no matter how high. However, his first touch is surprisingly poor, which is weird with someone with excellent ball control. Also, his crosses are pinpoint accurate, but his short passing is also poor. That is usually the difference between kids who have been playing from academies at 9 years and guys like Osimhen who grew up with street ball. Some of the simpler things like short passes and first touch are missing in Osimhen's portfolio because they weren't drilled into him when he was very young. However, he is better at the more natural things that only talent can help you with like ball control and crossing.
100% correct I've alluded to this observation but with almost the obligatory dogs abuse and claim s you hate Nigerian players birthed from local football.

What is we lack in technical ability we use natural attributes of to overcome, it works but not all the time.

So you must be wise and choose a team that will complement ones attributes.

I put it to you that you have never been constructive when it comes to Iheanacho.

When KC was doing well towards the back end of last season you first downplayed his efforts by saying he was only doing it against smaller teams when his form proved you wrong, instead of humbly saying he has done well exceeding your expectations as of then you still took little shots at him complaining why it took him all these years to perform conveniently forgetting your here and now mantra. Even to ordinarily congratulate him on winning the FA Cup your bias and ego wouldn't let you.

Awoniyi is the 3rd highest goal scorer currently in the bundesliga a top 5 league behind great strikers like Lewandoski and Haalaad. Taiwo is currently the highest Nigerian goal scorer in all of the top 5 leagues a feat worthy of commendation.

Dennis has done well and deserves commendation from everyone including you but using him as an excuse to attack other players is really beneath you.
I put it to you that you are emotive, prejudiced and seeking animosity where there is one. Essentially you are fighting with yourself and your FALSE NARRATIVE.

You make a strong claim based on outright FALSEHOOD, to quote you verbatim HAVE NEVER. A screenshot of a previous post from me early in the year says you are WHAT ❓❓

Awoniyi has done exceptionally well without doubt. But keep things in perspective, you are implying comparison with Lewandoski and Haaland.

Awoniyi from 12 games is third among 3 players all on 8 goals in the Bundesliga, Lewandoski has scored 14 goals from 12 games. Haaland has scored 9 goals from 6 games half the games of Awoniyi.

Bundesliga to is not as competitive as the EPL the best and most competitive league in the World this is not a debate but a proven fact. Timo Werner will confirm.

Then you make another false claim that I am attacking and by implication denigrating other players in favour of Dennis. I don't know how you came to that conclusion one again self birthed perception led balderdash.

Amuneke can't be classed as a Rookie Coach. He has managed Clubs in Nigeria before he took charge of U17 National Team.

Your premise, comparing his Situation with Pep and Zizou, was wrong from onset but I responded to your Query cos you're an intelligent and a respected Fellow here.

Amuneke first senior managerial job was with Julius Berger of Lagos 2008 - 09. Later he coached Ocean Boys of Porthacourt from 2009 - 11.

What did he achieve with both Clubs? Both Pep and Zizou moved up the Ladder from Academies of their Clubs and rest is HISTORY.

Everyone is pointing at his success with U17. Guess we forget late Tella, Manu Garba also won us same Competition before him?

He qualified Tanzania for AFCON (not their first ever), but what did he achieve with them at the Tournament?

After Tanzania Job, he managed a Club in Egypt and was dismissed (sacked) for poor performance of the Team. Prior to Tanzania Job, he also managed a Sudanese Club and was fired.

Let's critique his CV objectively and stop building his Reputation and tactical know-how on his U17 success. Cos the Competition is for Boys not Men.

Danish frigate kills four pirates in Gulf of Guinea
Written by Reuters -25th Nov 2021341

A Danish frigate has killed four pirates in waters south of Nigeria in an operation to protect shipping in the Gulf of Guinea, the Danish military said on Thursday.

The Esbern Snare, deployed last month to the Gulf of Guinea amid heightened security risks from pirates, on Wednesday spotted a fast-moving vessel carrying eight suspected pirates near a number of commercial ships, the Danish military said.

The incident took place in international waters, 25 to 30 nautical miles south of Nigeria’s territorial boundary, a spokesman said.

The motorboat, spotted by a helicopter deployed by the frigate, was carrying equipment associated with piracy, including ladders.

After the frigate fired warning shots, the pirates opened fire on Danish navy special forces, who in turn shot and killed four pirates and wounded one, the Danish military said in a statement.

The remaining four pirates were taken on board the frigate, and no Danish personnel were hurt in the incident, the military said.

It was the first time the frigate had opened fire during its current mission to the Gulf of Guinea, the spokesman said.

The Gulf of Guinea has been a piracy hot spot for years, but incidents have decreased since national authorities stepped up security efforts aided by foreign naval ships.

American, British, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese navies have also sent assistance, ships or training forces over the past year to tackle piracy after a record 130 sailors were taken from vessels in the region in 2020.

Piracy and armed robbery incidents dropped to 28 in the first nine months of 2021, compared with 46 in the same period in 2020, according to the International Maritime Bureau.

Separately, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and opposition lawmaker Jakob Elleman had both planned to visit the frigate during a visit to Ghana on Wednesday and Thursday.

They were not on board during the incident, which Frederiksen said was likely to have averted attacks on commercial ships in the gulf.

The frigate will operate in the region until April next year.
There were quite a few misguides contributors here , who claimed piracy is on the decline. Some suggested that it was outside our territorial waters the engagement by the Russian Navy. Othersa said the international intervention force is just here for training, etc .

I even got called ignorant by some.

This year l had a quite a few things to do in the DELTA and from my estimation only about 30% of incidents are reportedly particularly at local level and not all incidents vwith international vessels are reported. Piracy is absolutely rife and booming in the area.

Reports from the ICC (see below) incidents recorded are up until March 2022 and we have already exceeded number of incidents in 2020.

But to some we are progressing and doing well.

Imagine the state of affairs if the international intervention force was not deployed in the Gulf of Guinea.

The mere fact that you will have very limited freedom on the use of the helicopters makes the whole deal a stupid one.
My approach is always BEST VALUE and greatest IMPACT from very limited resources.

So l tend to look at things holistically not individually.

In this context what do we need the most ,is it over priced attack helicopters linked to expensive maintenance schedules , as well weapon systems and ammunition that is USA & NATO sourced STRICTLY.

I in the past have GIVEN a cost anylsis using certified NATO published data that shows how stupendously expensive the 25/30 mm ammunition is. Particularly in in comparison to Eastern block ammunition that can be sourced from multiple outlets ( even in Africa ) of at less than 10% of NATO cost.

My friends often say in Nigeria, it is not buying a Range Rover Vogue that is always the problem but MAINTAINING IT.

I watched how the NA cannabalised a HMG and stuck it on a BTR 4 in mish mash rudimentary way like road side mechanics ( kazeem).

Rendering the once excellent RWS with thermal imaging and night vision literally USELESS. This once near IFV becomes a tin box on wheels with a HMG attached to it. It's offensive superiority sacrificed on the alter of misguided thinking and ineptitude.

The RWS is probably armed with a 30mm ZТМ-1 automatic cannon, 212 ‘Barrier ATGM system, a 7.62mm MG and the KBA-117 30mm automatic grenade launcher.

I noticed that not surprisingly the BTR4 has fallen into enemy hands . I don't think we had more than 12.

It may seem like I digressed what l am saying can we maintain this over priced and unfamiliar USA attack helicopters and is it what we need now.

The war will be WON on the ground not in the air.

Gareth was appointed manager of Middlesbrough without any coaching badges. The badges were done after the event. And following that he met the official requirements to be England manager. Anchored on his performances as Middlesbrough fc not his football coaching badges.

How many people in Nigeria have actually done a driving test before bring issued a driving licence. Yet we still have some very excellent drivers.

I got my driving licence in Nigeria " No Test" as a teenager even then l had been driving for a 2/ 3 years.

When I returned back to England with my Nigerian drivers licence " no test" I took my UK driving test with one lesson and passed. The instructor said to me quite clearly you are clearly an excellent experienced driver and this test is a formality.

The term apprenticeship comes to mind learning by practice and association. Someone who has been at an elite football academy from the age of 6/7 then goes on to the first team then trains and works with some of the best manager's and facilities in the world for decade's.

In my opinion, 100% will know far more and have a better understanding of modern football than any coach who completed his badges in Nigeria and has been coaching Warri wolves and Enugu Ranger's ,etc for the past decades.

oga dont use your desire for some equipment to judge military operation. baga 2018 was overun because of reinforcement move out of the base with a lot of ammo leaving a small amo and equipment for base defence. many thing playout during operation
Sometimes you talk arrant nonsense.

The social media is awash with huge caches of ammunition being carted away by Boko from the attack and seizure of Baga . We could clearly see the heavy weaponry abandoned ( ERC 90, Gun boats, etc ) not used against the enemy. Initially the NA even denied that Bafa had fallen into the hands of Boko at the time.

Every sector of public service delivery in Nigeria is bediveled with Nepotism, Incompetence, Maladministration, etc, etc, all to different degrees of crass ineptitude.

Why then do we think somehow the military is going to be totally different ❓❓❓ And be the epitome of efficiency, let's be real, this is Nigeria.

Tell me one sector not two just one in public service delivery that meets expected international standards by comparison.

Look at how our soldiers behave in public and they are supposed to to be highly trained. You can't show in the public domain, ineptitude, incapacity , indiscipline and then somehow in the battlefield become the quintessential perfect soldiers. It does not work like that , sorry .

Yobo is simply not qualified he doesn't have any coaching badges till this moment.

Would you allow an air hostess to pilot the plane you are flying in just because she observed how the pilots operated the aircraft for donkey years?
Your analogy is wrong .

The disparity between being a coach and a player is more symbiotic than seperate.

Southgate had zero qualifications ( coaching badges) before he was made a manager.

Coaching badges are like passing your driving test, it doesn't mean your a great driver. Just legally allowed to drive.

Finally, l admit to Nepotism with regards to Yobo.

Was checking the map recently and looking at the possibility of creating a temporary airstrip in Northern Borno for quick insertion of troops and weapons of a mechanized strike force that will have an unpredictable pattern of attacking various terrorist camps in that axis. The airstrip does not have to be too fancy, just something that can support the landing and take off of C-130s and some other medium lift aircrafts, the terrain will make the construction of such a strip very cheap but then, considering that maiduguri is just about 200km away from any location within Nigeria's borders in that axis, doing that may be a bit redundant.

The distance between let's say Biu and Doro Gowon/Mallam fatori is more than 2/3 the distance between Lagos and Abuja as the crow flies.

A cheaper alternative may be to just have between 8-10 battalions of such mechanized strike force located in various parts of the theater amply supported with aircrafts for CAS and logistics.

Contemplating this because of the knowledge that some Nigerian soldiers are receiving special warfare trainings in a few countries and knowing that it will be quite sad to see them being used as we did the AFSF and others.
You are talking like our deranged and murderous adversaries, are fighting conventional warfare.

How many foot soldiers do Boko , ISWAP and (Bandit terrorists) have that's the first question.

My projections in total not more than 20 000.

The enemy is fluid, highly Mobil and not necessarily stationed in permanent structures. He has taken up permanent abode in different clearly identifiable areas .

We need to be highly expedient, quick to respond, more elusive and fluid than the enemy. That means search and destroy units that go right into supposed enemy territory to seek an and destroy. Those units have to be properly equipped.

Currently we largely set up huge forward bases and stay within the base in a false sense of control and be security. A few km from the base and we are not in control and in some cases terrified to leave the security of the base.

For this to succeed you need an up to date and far better communication infrastructure.

I cannot over emphasis the efficacy of UAV's, like the Wing Ling 2. It means if we have a good number at least 60 . You can then have complete over watch of areas of contention 24/7/365. And also thats an IMMEDIATELY available resource for units on search and destroy missions, far away from forward bases.

The Nigeria Vicker mk.3 mbt is shit, and needs urgent upgrade.
No it's not.

It's ABSOLUTELY fit for purpose, we are not fighting Egypt or Algeria.

Our present and continuous threat that we are mitigating against is rag tag terrorist bandits, ISWAP, Boko Haram, etc.

None of these groups have heavy weaponry.

Sometime ago some Boko technical invaded a forward bases. Our response we abandoned our Vickers MK3 tank in the face of rickety battered soft skinned pick up trucks mounted (not stabilised) with HMG.

There is something wrong with our combatants training and tactics as well the moral of our guys.

We get equipment and we ae so quick to abandon it intact to the enemy. I saw a video of Boko with our latest MRAP's in the background.

how many troop does uk as have. lie with sense please
I really don't mean to belittle you, but you CLEARLY lack the capacity to engage, understand and respond commensuratly, in a substantive discourse.

Let me reiterate, there has been a deployment of over 150k soldiers in Afghanistan over the past 20 years.

It's quite clear this has gone completely over your head , you simply have no idea. My suggestion to you, remain in the NCO uneducated boot camp. This level of discussion is above your grade level.

When making comparison and trying to be the smartest in the class, you need to consider density of troops and total mission encounter.
The total amount of troops deployed to fight the insurgency in bornu may be higher than the total amount the UK deployed to fight in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Common knowledge is the the rate of encounter and density of troops is directly proportional to the amount lost. Take it or leave it
Do not make brazen, emotive led assumptions from bias, which have zero substance.

To present your proposition you have to state the number of troops deployed. And indeed number of operations and engagements.

For your information on over 150 000 UK armed forces personal have been deployed in Afghanistan alone over the plus 20 year period.

Now give us the Nigerian armed forces deployment over the last 10 years. It's only then we can make a substantive comparison not sentiment based assumptions.

If your call European and American referee's biased as some have suggested, well let's just have 10% Nigerian referee's and in you can imagine the outcome.
