What baffles me each time I go through this thread and the other is the audacity with which people who have zero idea or knowledge about military operations give their ill thought out, half baked opinions about military issues.

I can never understand how people who can’t even say properly what a rifle is, think they know better than a commander, on the field, with several years of experience in combat, all from a very short video shot from one angle.

How do you even do this?
As a man thinketh so he is.

You have made a very wide assumption based on what , your own self birthed assumptions.

First of all everybody is largely anonymous on this thread so you have no idea about anybody's background, knowledge base and transferable skill set in reality.

If you do not know , talk for yourself not anybody else.

As they say "Ignorance is bliss"

You can have several decades of long standing ineptitude and incompetence that doesn't by longevity transfer to knowledge and outstanding ability, because you have the designation of commander. This more true of very tribalised, politicized garnished with nepotism armed forces as we have in most African nations.

My two pennies.

My question is why is the Nigerian army always repelling and not attacking?
Very pertinent question, the narrative from our NA is predominantly reactive not proactive. As a consequence we seem to have a defensive posture always repelling.

However, to some asking that question in itself is unpatriotic as you will come to notice.

But please keep asking the right questions that see through haze of emotive bias.

I quite recently put in a fairly substantive post on this subject of UAV, but it seems to have gone missing.

That's a first for me.

I have often said the first casualty of war is the TRUTH.

Versions of the truth to suit each party become widespread and very difficult to corroborate. More so when you don't have independent unrestricted news media covering events sometimes live.

Drones, UAV'S are shot down all the time it is a contest between air defences counter technologies and the capacity of the enemy. So which is the best UAV it's a question of who your enemy is.

In the case of Nigeria, Boko is a rag tag army without the capacity to hit a UAV particularly one flying above 5k feet. You probably can't see it or even hear it.

The UAV war is really a technology war played out on essentially PS4 consoles, sometimes 000,s of miles from the actual battlefield. It's almost virtual but with a real life impact.

So as much as we like to rubbish keyboard warriors and game players. These are the nerds being recruited for the next level of modern warfare.

FYI information before you even fire a ATGM hand held or otherwise system you will spend hours on a console same thing for tank commanders. The amount of computer based simulation for combatants these days is astounding.

Again l admit to complete ignorance as to the training methodology in the Nigerian armed forces. The British and American yes so forgive my latent bias.

Attached a few reports on UAV in Libya according to USA, UAE and Egypt supported Haftar they have shot down 50 Turkish UAV"s.

Who will you believe, like l said first casualty of any war is the TRUTH. Which means you have to dig deep to find it, if you or anybody really wants the truth. And many people just want the fantasy not the bitter painful truth.

Honestly speaking, Nigeria is one of the most armed forces in Africa and the world at large, but I think Nigeria is taking a long time to wipe BH.
The service chiefs should change their tactics and approach.
Also Nigeria should allow ECOWAS form a coalition force including Ghana, Senegal and i'vory coast, these countries soldiers are not facing any insurgency threat for now.
And honestly, Nigeria's service rifles are very poor...the AK's are old, at least Ghana and Senegal use M-16 series.
The battle is not only Chad's.
The M16 first came out in the early 60's,however in its current multi faceted modernised format is it better than than the AK47❓

It's a matter of debate it has less recoil and is far more accurate with a longer effective range. But it's not as resilient as the AK47 and or reliable and needs too much TLC.

However there are so many different licensed and unlicensed makers of the AK 47 and as such there are huge disparities in quality.

You are right and wrong. The drone you are talking about is multi role too. It can carry either armaments or surveillance equipment. So, when the Boko issue is gone, we can use the drones to keep an eye on our borders, or loan it to the police to track bandits. And in case of invasion, these drones can do a good job of either bombing the invading army to bits or performing a reconnaissance mission.
The airforce doesn't have much aircraft. But can you ask them what happened to the Jaguar aircraft we bought a few decades ago and why they were allowed to rot. And why maintaining platforms here is incredibly difficult.

However, they are buying the JF-17 and that is multi-role enough.
People should not get stuck up on definitions they are fluid and are determined by the use you put the particular asset too.,

If something can be modified then it can be used for whatever you decide too use it for, that makes it multi use and therefore multi role.

With regard to Sepecat Jaguar , probably the best set of air craft the NAF have ever acquired in recent times all 18.

However, our military has always from inception been cursed with political wranglings, tribalism and religious discrimination, the British started it as a means to prevent the south from agitating for independence.

But back to recent times, the suspicion of coup and counter coup created deep mistrust as well as undue paranoia with the senior officers. The NAF as well as the Navy required a certain degree of academic excellence and knowledge for progression. As a consequence the ability to flood the NAF and or the Navy with your own kinsmen in the past was limited.

There was a coup planned against Babangida in which NAF officers was heavily involved. They were in their positions by merit. Babangida could not control or manipulate the NAF. So he essentially rendered it impotent and the first victims were the Jaguars which they feared so much. A group of technicians came from India years back to do some assessment in civilian times and were shocked at how the aircraft were in such good condition. The all had very flight hours comparative to their ages. I expected the NAF to revive those airframes (for small money) which are still better than those Chinese rebadged Mig 21's we bought for stupid money IMO. Thankfully we are leaving those dark days behind. Unfortunately have not been able to deal with corruption completely.

It is the same historic mentality that has plagued the NPF, it seems the only weapon they have are assault rifles. Police forces across the world are equipped with MRAPS, HMG , Grenade launchers and multiple heavy to light weapons. But the fear that the NPF would therefore be equpped to stop the NA from carrying out coups or limiting the NA influence has seen that tent continue.

Because in all honesty the Mobile police force should be equipped with HMG, LAV, RPG7, Multiple light weapons Sniper rifles, and should be able to contend with BOKO. The police many a time are outgunned by criminals and why have their weapons not been upgraded to reflect the current threat levels bot with bandits and terrorists. That would free up the NA to concentrate on its core task.

The WING LONG II is in the same class as the Anka-S.

All military vehicles in the same class have similar costs
.

The Anka-S is the most recent drone foreign military sale, that's what you would use to gauge.

Until you know the total cost of the Saudi deals you cannot use to compare.
Consider the proposition you have presented in bold. I have to be brutally honest with you it's nonsensical without any substance whatsoever.

Every country sells it UAV hardware at different prices simply because they can.

But there are huge disparities in price and indeed difference in quality which is open to never ending debate.

Nonetheless, currently BOKO don't have high end technology in terms of anti aircraft mitigation then a Chinese UAV will be more than sufficient.

Actually the Wing Loong II is classed with the USA MQ that costs $30 million but costs a fraction of that price at $1million.

It's something you hardly do.

According to your wild claims, 50 million dollars would be enough to purchase 50 armed UAVs.

I mean, so why is Tunisia paying $240 million for 6 units of Anka-S drones from Turkey.

I am using Turkey-Tunisia UCAV deal as it is the most recent foreign military sale of UAVs today.

Anka-S is the serial production variant of Anka, shown here, which is a medium-altitude, long-endurance UAV. (Turkish Aerospace Industries)
ANKARA, Turkey — Tunisia has awarded a contract to Turkish Aerospace Industries for the supply of six Anka-S drones, three ground control stations and an unspecified level of technology transfer.

Turkish procurement officials said TAI had been awaiting a deal with the government there for more than a year to sell its Anka-S drone. Industry sources said the contract is worth $240 million.

In essence Nigeria purchased 12 Super Tucano for 329 million dollars, 496 million dollars when you add infrastructure, training of 100 personnel, ammunition and ISR capabilities.

Tunisia purchased 6 units of Anka-s from Turkey for 240 million dollars including GCS, training and ammunition.

Yet this clown wants us to believe that 50 million dollars would get Nigeria 50 armed drones.

Some of the guys who comment here dream up fantasies and pass it off as facts. Really amusing.
I want to presume that you went university at least. Having that thought in mind, you should transfer the basic methodology that underpins research.

Albeit this is not academic but even if you were presenting before a corporate board. You would approach matters with objectivity, substantive deduction and projection under pinned with rational.

First of all why all the insult and degradation. This is supposed to be a forum.

Why don't you do some basic open source investigation to prove me wrong.

You completely evade the topic, you do not address the issues directly, you dismiss substantive deduction but with nothing of substance. You are emotive and not objective

Your approach is to you use comparison by conjecture to make a conclusion. However, it has zero weighting in method or logic. The variables you use do not converge for inferences by comparison to be made.

Then you call me a clown with delusion based fantasy, that's derogatory.

I will use your own confused irrational unit of measurement to address your misguided response.

Turkey are doing a transfer of technology agreement with Tunisia as well as building 3 ground control stations. The 6 Drones are part of the package of the $240 million contract. How much does it cost to build one ground control stationhuh ❓ ow much does it cost per unit for each drone.❓❓

There are a number of variables you would have to consider in the Turkey to Tunisia UAV contract. For instance the existing communications infrastructure and if Indeed if they have any.

The next thing what value has Turkey put on, intellectual capital and how that relates to the contract sum. Before you can make any projections on unit cost of the actual UAV. However you do none of these things and yet you call me a clown.

I talked about unit price per Chinese UAV these costs are well documented on the global UAV market.

Ukraine bought 12 UAV'S from Turkey for a unit price of $4-5 million, the contract sum for the 12 UAV's was $69 million. I am using specialist global consultancies as my reference point. Although l do not have the full report that could cost upwards of $5000. I have the basic information which is suffice for our purposes here.

So using your unit of measurement in which it is implied by you that each UAV cost $40 million. That's about 10 time or more the actual cost of Turkish UAV. As you are quite obviously wrong.

What than does that make youhuh ❓ Does that make something much more than a clown❓❓❓

So because Turkey sell thier UAV for $4 million and the USA sells thier for $30 million and China sells thier $1 million. It must be untrue and a fantasy.

It seems you are one of those people that take comfort in ignorance of the truth and rather support the lie to feed your emotive based prejudices and misguided sense of patriotism.

Expecting an apology from you would be too much, I guess.

Let us take like 200m USD and invest in armed military drones

We can have 24 hour coverage of the ne/lake chad axis without breaking a sweat or risking the lives if our service men by sending them out all the time

Our Intel agencies (at least when it comes to this matter) are embarrassing the country.
There are a few who have been shouting very loudly that the A29 is the game changer in COIN warfare. And even quite a few who have erroneously agreed.

My approach is very simple, "Best Value" and greatest impact / outcome delivery from limited resources.

I said the future is " Attack UAV'S" that give you 24 hour endurance without the enemy even knowing and then you can eliminate him clinically with almost zero risk to air force personal. They are now the game changer.

Wing Loong II is an attack UAV that has some impressive statistics. 24 hour endurance, 1500km range and a 500kg payload of multiple smart and precision ordinances, missiles, etc There is no hiding place daytime or nightime.

How many UAV 's do we need to have total and complete 24 hour coverage of the NE theatre and with over watch of our very gallant soldiers.❓❓ ❓.

My projection at least 35 Wing Loong II UAV will do the job. But to be absolutely sure l would procure 50.

Now some of you not all will even shocked at the procurement cost.

$1million per unit, that's $50 million for 50 Chinese Wing Loong II attack UAV
now compare that to the total per unit procurement package cost of one turboprop A29, which is $50 million.

Now with your eyes open which would you rather have.huhhuh l find some of our decisions baffling and the allegations of zero will to end this cash cow war, begin to have some credence.

With 50 UAV or effectively 20+ combing the skies at 8000 ft, at any one time, unknown Boko. Not one of thier gun trucks will be able to operate without being roasted, indeed they will have not be able to have any. It means where 2/3 Boko gather we will know. There will be nothing like suprise attack on any NA base or convoys and or convoys of Boko gun trucks running with reckless abandon across the NE. That's for the entire NE theatre.

That and more, the soldiers were lying down because lots of bullets were being fired towards their positions, it is normal human nature to avoid danger, it can also be used against the terrorist. If they are given the notion that those soldiers won't stop resisting, they will reconsider their strategy. If enough bullets is fired towards their positions too, many of them would seek cover.
That is exactly the reason why one of the soldiers was asking why they haven't fired RPG. If about 50 RPGs were fired by the troops towards the position of the terrorist, trust me it will have a psychological effect on them and they might retreat.

It's is not fair on my part to comment on an event based on a short video clip . I will not be able to do justice unless I get to see the video of the entire event. Possibly fail even then.

And also it is easy to pass judgements on others in dire life threatening situations while I may be no better when caught in the same situation.

So hopefully you understand my corundum.

In a generalized context let me point out something's.

When a convoy comes under a ambush , the drivers are taught to disperse even under fire and only then they are supposed to dismount and take cover. ( In the video the vehicles are all bunched up )

The soldiers are similarly taught not to bunch up together . Only buddy teams in 2/3 nos are meant to be at one location. ( In the video everybody seems to be converging at one point and all bunched up )

This is to divide the enemies firepower and allow the defending teams widely dispersed better opportunities to pinpoint enemy fire and take it down.

Infact some teams are assigned ( rather the contact teams themselves ) to purposefully draw enemy fire on themselves so that other teams can pinpoint the enemy location and take it down.

In a given situation why that is not being done is something those in charge must take note of , since they are the ones who are in direct charge and in the know.

I myself was caught in an ambush which I mentioned long time back .

Personally I believe NA needs to revamp it's CT training and lay more emphasis on drills relating to contact drills , immediate ambush drills, counter ambush drills
Agreed.

They are not acting like trained soldiers what you see is complete chaos, confusion and disorganisation. Even with the very limited clip.

You could easily see these guys running away in fear and terror forgetting many a time your best defence is in attack.

Time will tell about the new contract. I think it is real though, cos the claim was made by a reputable Twitter source. I am however unable to find further proof for it online.
Why I said perhaps Algeria intends to face off against Egypt is that the two are the most heavily armed nations on the continent. The amount of tanks, arty and air support these two countries have could make an alien have a heart attack and sh1t itself!

I honestly don't see NATO attacking Algeria. They have learned their lesson in Libya and the Algerian military is not the hopelessly incompetent buffoons that was Qaddafi's army. But again, time will tell.
When Gaddafi was around he probably started the arms race in that region. Egypt and Algeria had the resources to try and keep up.

Every nation was very weary of Gaddafi's Libya. Now he has gone the competition is between Egypt and Algeria.

Have not confirmed but it seems they both support different factions in the never ending Libyan crisis. With Egypt fighting a proxy war with General Haftar.

Joebie Mugu ... He is not Igbo , he is your papa Abi ? Yeye okpakata yarns purveyor
The civil thing to say is ask to be enlightened so he can explain why he Joebie has come to that deduction.

He may know Omeruo's family background and or know him in person. You do not know.

For example l know people from Cote De Voice who have Nigerian surnames from thier Fathers but have lived all thier lives in Abidjan and don't consider themselves to be Nigerian.

Consider the Ali, Barkley and Solanke they have Nigerian origin and parentage but have no affinity with Nigeria whatsoever.

So abuse and insult is not a sign of wisdom please try and be a gentleman.
