NewDigitalWorld: This graphic ranks the 15 largest countries in the world, by land area. Data is sourced from the World Bank, last updated January, 2025.
It also includes the share of forest and agricultural land per country. We explain how these metrics are calculated in later sections.
Canada Loses Out in Land Area
Russia is the largest country by land area (16.4 million km² / 6.2 million sq. miles), nearly double the size of second-ranked China (9.4 million km² / 3.6 million sq. miles ). But hold on, isn’t Canada supposed to be the second-largest country in the world? The answer is: it depends.
As previously mentioned, land area is a very specific term that doesn’t include area under lakes and rivers. As a result, Canada—where 9% of the total area is covered by freshwater—loses some ground to peers.
Per the World Bank, land area is an important estimation of a country’s agricultural ability and is used to track the environmental effects of human activity.
Most Countries Are Forests and Farmland
A benefit of measuring land area is seeing how much of a share forests and agricultural land take up.
In Russia, for example, nearly half of its entire area is covered by forests.
In China and the U.S. most of the land available is used for agriculture.
Speaking of agricultural land: Saudi Arabia has it listed at 81% of the land area. This is odd, since most of the country is a desert, with little precipitation, and not exactly suitable for farming.
A quick check of the metadata reveals that agricultural land is a self-reported figure and includes croplands, pastures, and land devoted to the rearing of animals.
In short, the country may have zoned or declared land as agricultural, even if it’s not used as such.
Also, Where Do Humans Live?
Over the last century, more and more of the human population has moved to cities.
As a result they’ve become hubs of economic growth, in turn attracting more people, and many of them are more populous than entire countries.
But cities don’t take up much room, especially compared to forests.
In the top 15 ranks, China has the largest share of urban land (5%), as well as the most area built into cities.
Australia has the least share (0.16%) but Sudan has the smallest total city area (3,790 km2), as its people live mostly in the rural countryside.
China’s Marriage Decline Sparks Fresh Demographic Concerns
China has recorded a sharp 20.5% decline in marriages, the latest signal of worsening demographic challenges as the country struggles to boost birth rates despite economic concerns among young families.
According to data from the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs, only 6.1 million couples registered for marriage in 2024, down from 7.7 million in the previous year. This significant drop aligns with China’s third consecutive year of population decline, following India’s overtaking of the country as the world’s most populous nation in 2023.
China’s Aging Population Crisis
China’s 1.4 billion population is rapidly aging, with nearly a quarter of its people aged 60 or above as of late 2024. This shift places immense pressure on pension funds, healthcare systems, and workforce sustainability, raising concerns about the country’s long-term economic stability.
For decades, China’s economic growth has been fueled by its vast workforce, but demographic shifts are now threatening this advantage. The country has been implementing pro-family policies to encourage births, but these efforts have yet to yield significant results.
Why Are Young Chinese Avoiding Marriage?
Despite subsidies and incentives to promote family life, many young Chinese are reluctant to get married due to:
1. High cost of living – Rising housing prices, education expenses, and childcare costs make family life unaffordable for many.
2. Job market uncertainty – Young graduates face a tough employment environment, leading to financial insecurity.
3. Changing societal attitudes – More young people are embracing singlehood, citing reduced financial pressure and greater personal freedom.

The Legacy of China’s One-Child Policy
China’s one-child policy, imposed in the 1980s, was aimed at curbing overpopulation but has now contributed to a shrinking younger generation. Although the policy was relaxed in 2016 and couples were allowed three children in 2021, the effects of decades-long population control remain deeply rooted in society.
Government Response: Raising the Retirement Age
To address the aging population and declining workforce, Beijing announced in September 2024 that it would gradually raise the statutory retirement age, which had been one of the lowest in the world at 60. This move is aimed at extending the working years of older citizens to help sustain economic productivity.
Future Implications
With fewer marriages and an aging population, China faces mounting economic and social challenges. If the marriage and birth rate trends continue downward, the country will have to rethink its policies on workforce sustainability, retirement planning, and social welfare.
The question remains: Can China reverse its demographic decline before it becomes an irreversible crisis?
Islie: A notable case involving Nigeria was the 2009 prosecution of officials of Kellogg Brown & Root (KBR), a subsidiary of US oil and energy contractor Halliburton, for bribing Nigerian government officials.
With the exception of a few posters on this thread, the rest of the responses right (from the first 2 posters) clearly show a lack of deep thinking and low-self-esteem in hurriedly accepting ing what Trump is doing!
How can any poster be openly defend fraud here? If they had used the term "business lobbying" NOT "bribery" and that would have been a better way to convey the message.
Leobankx: The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has said they are ready to offer Russia a straightforward land exchange in a bid to end the three-year war between the two countries.
Vixlot: Tesla stock’s steep losses in early 2025 have cut tens of billions of dollars away from the net worth of the world’s richest man, the electric vehicle maker’s CEO Elon Musk, whose outspoken role in President Donald Trump’s administration draws questions about what it may mean for Tesla.
Shares of Tesla declined 6.3% to $328.50 in Tuesday trading, closing at its lowest share price since Nov. 15.
Catalyzing Tuesday’s drop were advancements in autonomous driving from its Chinese EV rival BYD and a skeptical note from Oppenheimer analysts led by Colin Rusch warning Musk’s “political activity risks consumer backlash.”
The Oppenheimer note, which referenced “concerning” January sales in China and Europe, comes a day after Stifel analysts led by Stephen Gengaro similarly warned “the negative downturn in consumers' perception of Elon Musk could result in a ‘headwind to sales’ for Tesla,” which inspired a 3% loss in Monday trading for Tesla shares.
Tesla stock is now down 18.8%, or more than $76 per share, in February, declining almost 32% from its all-time closing high of $479.86 set Dec. 17.
Nobody has been affected more on a gross basis by the Tesla slump than its largest shareholder, Musk, who owns nearly 13% of the company and a further 9% equity award pending legal appeal (Forbes discounts Musk’s 9% bonus by 50% in its valuation to reflect its legal uncertainty).
In the light of alternative newer technologies in the automobile ecosystem and Elon's somewhat erratic political comments and posts of X, Tesla share prices will become volatile.
There have been public protests this week by some Americans for Elon to be "deported" in protests against "American fascism."
LegendHero: Bashir Ahmad no too wise. The guy no understand wetin he dey talk.
Technology is so advance that astronomers can predict when (date) the moon will appear. They already know the moon will appear and that Ramadan will start by March 1st even in Gulf countries.
Just that people will only start when they use their eyes like this korokoro to see the moon. But you can know with 98% certainty when it will show.
Well said. Technology has also made it possible for accurate or near-accurate weather forecasts to be made in realtime as well using advanced satellite imaging systems and super computers.
Mrfeel: I can't read this long article, Yoruba fought no wars the ones they fought was between themselves which is costumary of every ethnic group attacking pretty weak tribes or clans around them to unify them as one people, Fulanis still have illorin today as a conquered land , and their is no such thing as Yoruba meaning OYO OBA
I'm a veteran of advanced world history since the early 1980s with a large body of historical materials in my archives and home library. So, you are communicating with a man who is very vast in history and geopolitical relations here. You are deliberately fabricating and spreading highly volatile disinformation about the Yorubas who are over 70 million worldwide (which is clearly a VIOLATION of several rules of Nairaland) and you are deliberately DEFLECTING when FACTS have been pointed out to you with several CLEAR sources of books and evidence such as the globally and historically known heavy DEFEAT of the Fulani jihadists (and a few of their Ilorin-Yoruba Muslim collaborators) at the famous Battle of Osogbo in 1840 and at Odo-Otin by the gallant Ibadan Army led by Aare Latoosa, General Oderinlo (who were both practicing Muslims) and other top war commanders from Ibadan with allies from the Osogbo Army using modern weapons got from Europe via Eko Island (Lagos Island) and Ijebuland such as the Shneider guns and more. There are many Weblinks online to easily read about these.
Ilorin is NOT a conquered land. More than 90 percent of Ilorin is of Yoruba lineages and the lingua franca in that capital city is pure Yoruba language. Even the Amir speaks Yoruba language in his daily activities. Before the British Colonialists left Nigeria in 1960, they agreed that it was necessary to have an Oba in Ilorin for the indigenous Yoruba population after a referendum gets concluded. All these are in the archives. The Justice Ekundayo Panel of 1978 also reaffirmed what the British Colonialists said about having an Oba of Ilorin with Chieftaincy upgrades as well.
Nowenuse: My brother. Eggon and Mada people made a very big mistake! They thought they were being dominated and marginalized in Plateau state, then they joined those wolves in sheep clothing (Kambari/Kanuri of Lafia) and others to agitate for their own state. See where it has landedd them, let them produce the governor of Nasarawa state let us see na.
Immediately Nasarawa state was created, the Kanuri and hausa fulani emirate minorities joined forces with the tribal muslims to hijack the state. All the stake holders agreed that the capital of the state should be in Akwanga, only for Abacha to turn around overnight and carry the capital to Lafia (where his kanuri brothers are).
Eggon/Mada people were clearly deceived and manipulated. They thought they would get the capital in Akwanga.
To worsen the case in Nasarawa, the muslims have set the Eggon/mada christians in enimity against the other Christians in the state using tribalism. Aren't you surprised that Buhari has never won Nasarawa state? This is because when it comes to FG elections, all the christians in the state unite, but when it comes to state elections, they are divided along tribe.
Well, let's see how the next election will be, I hope the eyes of all Nasarawa christians will open this time around to see that they are being played. Governorship is to be zoned to Nasarawa north where the majority are christians (Eggon/mada people). Let's see how they will manipulate it this time around.
As for that Gbagyi king of Karu, I have never heard anything as such, but even if i did, I wouldn't be surprised! Gbagyi people have a slavish mentality and high inferiority. Can't you see how hausas are dominating them on their lands in Minna, Suleja and other parts of Niger east?
Gbagyi people are the reason why christians lost domination of Kaduna city. Infact, if not for other southern kaduna tribes who joined forces and have managed to influence the Gbagyis over there, it would have been a completely lost case.
Gbagyi christian political leaders used to support Hausa muslims in Kaduna state over southern kaduna people in the past. Not until Sharia 2001 crisis when thousands of the Gbagyis were killed by hausas, did they realize that hausas are the enemies and not their fellow Christians. It is just very sad. Gbagyi people act as if they are under a curse by hausas. Anyway, let me stop here.
And you are very correct, if not for the proximity of Karu to Abuja, Karu would have been no different from Keffi, Toto and Nasarawa LGA where most of the gbagyi towns are now dominated by hausas. It is just very shameful.
As for the Ebiras and Barubas, take them serious at your own peril. Most of them are pro caliphate and are no different from nupes and even hausas to an extent. They are tools of the caliphate to destabilize the unique middlebelt identity and struggle.
Konquest: Over 90% of Ilorin indigenes are of Yoruba ancestry. The so-called Fulani being referred to in Ilorin are actually of mixed bloodlines (Yoruba/Fulani) and Yoruba is the language that is spoken in Ilorin because it is part of Yorubaland - right up to Jebba on the banks of River Niger where there is an Oba of Jebba, Kwara State.
Abdulfatah Ahmed the Governor of Kwara State is a Yorubaman from "Share." Even Sen. Bukola Saraki's grandfather who was the leader of Nigerians in Côte d' Ivoire in the early 1960s was originally from Abeokuta before migrating to Ilorin for Quranic studies! This is an open secret in Kwara state. Bukola Saraki's mother is from the Royal family in Owo, Ondo State. I mean the Olagbegi Royal Family!
The late Dr. Olusola Saraki's mother is from Iseyin [Agarawu Compound, which is a Royal House] in Oyo State. I have an August 15, 1998 Saturday GUARDIAN, page 12 interview where Dr. Olusola Saraki said if the majority of Yoruba of Kwara and Kogi choose to join their kith and kin in the West in a boundary adjustment, he is in support of it because he considers himself a part of the West. He even made reference to his ancestral link with Abeokuta in that interview... But he only made reference to his father's grandmother [Dr. Olusola Saraki's paternal great grandmother] as being the daughter of Baase in Lafenwa, Abeokuta!
Even the British colonialists indicated in the colonial records and archives that Ilorin is a Yoruba town! Sir Allan Burns ALSO indicated this FACT in his book "The History of Nigeria" so there is NO need to fight or kill anyone.
The battle should be a LEGAL and intellectual battle by using the historical documents that the British left which clearly indicate that Ilorin is a Yoruba town! A referendum will be done and the Yoruba Oba will come into being. This is what the Ekundayo Panel suggested. You can Google the results of the Justice Ekundayo Panel on the Ilorin Chieftaincy struggle online.
Sir Allan Burns was the Acting Governor General of Nigeria and also the Governor of Gold Coast, so, he was saying the right thing.

masseratti: This is the problem I have with people who are literate but act ignorant in the name of religion...even calendars in Saudi Arabia has the date of the start of Ramadan stated already...the calculation on sighting of the moon in any region of the world is 100% correct..no Muslim need anyone to tell him or her when to start fasting..nor did the Quran say someone has to see the moon and tell you when to fast ..the Sultan has no authority on that, technology has taken over that..heck Bashir we have satellites up there and man has been to the moon.. knows it's velocity, knows it's trajectory, Islam and the Arab world were the leaders in astronomy but wahabiss type of Islam killed it because someone want to claim know it all in Islam..also when i was young northern Muslim starting day of Ramadan or ileya was a day different.. didn't know how it got to be same day..even kanuri don't follow sultan announcements.
Very illuminating.
The Kanuris have practiced Islam for over 1000 years while the Yorubas have had Islam for over 500 years with the FIRST EVER mosques built in Iwoland in the current Osun State in the 1600s. All these were long ago (even before the birth of the direct great grandparents of that Fulani guy called Uthman DanFodio who was born in Niger Republic).
The entire Fulani population randomly scattered in 15 Sahelian regions of countries in West Africa are around 25 million (the population could even be less because some of the same Fulani or Fula people move around claiming different countries), while the indigenous Hausas of Nigeria and Niger Republic are around 80 million.
The Yorubas who are indigenous to Nigeria, Benin Republic and Republic of Togo with others spread worldwide in major population centers are over 70 million, so, how can any Fulani Muslim leader who comes from a people with a smaller ethnic population than Yorubas and Hausas be dictating to others on social or religious matters? That's irresponsible feudalism, it's shameful and makes absolutely NO sense at all.
Indeed, technology has become so advanced that global weather forecasts have become accurate or near-accurate. So, the pathways of the celestial bodies such as the sun, the moon, etc, can EASILY be mathematicalky calculated with advanced computers.
Mrfeel: Yoruba's fought no wars , the only war you fought was still between yourselves and afon-ja prostrated before his master like a typical Yoruba man and went and joined Fulanis to fight his master at the price of illorin
Hey! STOP that irresponsible disinformation on this thread, you are making yourself look absolutely unintelligent here. Several famous and credible books such as: "War and Peace in Yorubaland 1793-1893" (The four sections in the book deal with War, Peace, the Yoruba Generals and their War Tactics), "Yoruba Warfare In The 19th Century" by Ade Ajayi and Robert Smith (It provides a comprehensive analysis of the military conflicts and strategies that shaped the Yoruba states during the 1800s), "The History of the Yorubas" by Reverend Samuel Johnson, "The History of Nigeria" by Sir Allan Burns (who was the Governor-General of Nigeria and Ghana), books written by Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther (whose mother was a direct royal descendant of Alaafin Abiodun of the Oyo Empire) all from the 1800s and 1900s containing documented evidence from White and African missionaries, historians, British and French Colonial officers CLEARLY state these facts of history in Yorubaland about wars and Yoruba military forces ruthlessly DEFEATING the Fulani jihadists (and the few Yoruba Muslim traitors among them from Ilorin who pointed the way for them) on multiple battlefields such as the famous and decisive "Battle of Osogbo" in 1840, which prevented the entire Yorubaland from becoming Fulani emirates today and also definitely saved Benin Republic, modern Edo and Delta States, etc, from falling into Fulani hands.
Second, the "Yoruba" name and etymology is NOT derogatory like you have irresponsibly tried to infer BUT it evolved and was introduced officially for modern use in 1843 by the first ever African-born Anglican Bishop who is of Oyo descent, Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther to represent the entire Yoruba Country of today which extends from Nigeria, to Benin Republic and Togo. The name Yoruba is derived from "OYO OBA" meaning "OYO is KING" affirming the supremacy or primacy of the Oyo Empire among other Yoruba subgroups who are related to one another. The name "Aku" was also considered because it was already in use by some foreign writers in the 1800s especially in Sierra Leone, and the name "Olukumi or Lucumi" was also in use in Cuba with the etymology derived from Yoruba salutations among Yoruba folks. But FINALLY the name Yoruba gained official recognition with the usage by Ajayi Crowther in the FIRST EVER Yoruba-English dictionary of 1843 and the Yoruba Bible. So, it is NOT a derogatory word coined by Hausas as being falsely concocted and pushed around the Internet by insidious young Igbos in YouTube comments and those imbecilic ipob Websites. NO such silly word called "Yoruba*za" exists among the Hausas. That satanic word Yoruba*za having "banza" in it was coined in recent times by highly irresponsible ipob Igbos as an "ethnic slur" NOT Hausas! "Yarubawa" is the Hausa way of simply pronouncing "Yoruba." For centuries before Nigeria existed, Yorubas of the Oyo Empire and the Hausa city-states traded together via the Nupe country bringing in regular supplies of horses and Yorubas exported woven fabric, kolanuts, etc, WITHOUT any use of derogatory language. Historically, Hausas have NEVER used "ethnic slurs" against Yorubas.
A few of the exonyms the Yoruba are known by across West Africa include: "Alata" in Southern Ghana, "Eyagi" in Nupe which produced terms such as: Ayagi (the pre-modern Hausa word for the Yoruba people) and Iyaji in Igala.
The Hausa too were named "Afnu" by the Kanuri and "Gambari" by the Yoruba, only that the exonyms for Hausa did not catch on.
In the book written by R.O. Olaniyi in 2007 entitled: "Hausa-Yoruba Relations 1500-1800: A Historical Perspective," he states that: "Contrary to widespread accounts, there is NO material to show that the term Yoruba was originally used by the Hausa to describe Yorubas derogatorily."
Some of you young Igbos foolishly allow ipob propaganda to mislead you all and you go on posting fake news all over the place. I have visited many of those Igbo secessionist platforms and all the fake histories written on Yoruba folks and other Nigerian ethnic groups that you all post here on NL are copied from those evil sites.
While it is historically TRUE that a series of Civil Wars took place in Yorubaland due to the fact that there was a power struggle in the Oyo Empire leading to other Confederate Kingdoms under Oyo Empire to seek for independence from Oyo Empire (which extended from modern Nigeria to Benin Republic and Togo). It was these internal divisions that gave the opportunity for the outside enemies like the foreign Fulanis to use treachery to strike in Ilorin in the 1830s just like they had done to the Hausas, Nupes, Kanuris and others starting from 1804 when their fake jihad started (which also involved capturing entire people from their communities and selling them as slaves).
It was the bravery and eternal vigilance of the Ibadan Army led by Aare Latoosa, General (Balogun) Oderinlo [who were both practicing Muslims, other military commanders and Ibadan soldiers] including Osogbo soldiers and military commanders that led to the resounding defeat of the combined Fulani (some Hausa and Yoruba Muslims of Ilorin) jihadists invaders at the Historically famous Battle of Osogbo in 1840. The Ibadan Army also defeated another Fulani raid into Yorubaland at Otun in Ekiti and the Fulanis NEVER dared to invade the interior of Yorubaland again. The Fulanis suffered other defeats in the hands of combined forces of the Yorubas thereby leading them to flee from the environs of Ilorin right across the River Niger into parts of the current Niger State where the gallant Yoruba soldiers pursued them to. Unknown to many of the younger people, as of the time the British Colonialists forces got to Ilorin in the 1890s, Ilorin was effectively 100 percent in the hands of Balogun Alanamu and his high ranking Yoruba generals but because they chose to fight the British and as punishment, they got deported from Ilorin ONLY for the stupid British people to mistakely bring a Foreigner who was NOT an indigenous Yoruba man as the Amir. This person was of Gambari descent (Hausa descent). Later the British agreed that Ilorin is indeed a Yoruba town and restated that a referendum should be done so that a Yoruba Oba can be installed for the Yorubas of Ilorin as of the time the 1960 independence was approaching.
In order to transform from an Oyo Kingdom into and Oyo Empire (just like the Ashanti Empire, Benin Empire or the much larger British Empire) you have to militarily conquer other Kingdoms, towns and communities and incorporate them into your territory and that's how the Oyo Empire came into existence stretching from modern Nigeria, to Benin Republic and Togo.
benuejosh: How about South East or has IPOB spoilt the good will?
The new Abia Airport construction that was flagged off last month by Festus Keyamo is a Federal project (with some input from the Abia State Governor who said that Abia will construct the runway). I also read that the Nigerian Minister for Works indicated that a Coastal Road link will be connecting from the Lagos-Calabar Highway end to Abakaliki in Ebonyi State as well and much more.
zero8zero: The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the concession of the Kashimbila Integrated Cargo/Agro-Allied Airport in Taraba, under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
A statement issued in Abuja on Friday by Ifeanyi Nwoko, Acting Head, Media and Publicity, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), said that the projects were approved under the regulatory guidance of the ICRC.
The statement said the project cuts across agriculture, water resources and aviation sectors.
It said that on one hand, it featured the upgrade of an airstrip in Kashimbilla to a Cargo/Agro-Allied Airport.
“On the other hand, it has a combination of no fewer than 3,000 hectares of farmland, fish farming facilities and a ranch for livestock farming.”
The statement quoted Jobson Ewalefoh, Director-General (D-G), ICRC, as commending President Bola Tinubu for quickly approving the project whose facilities are expected to enhance Nigeria’s agricultural export potential.
“The processes for this project were started and completed in six months, in fulfilment of the charge given to me by President Tinubu to accelerate PPP projects’ procurement.
“The Kashimbila project includes the concession of over 3,000 hectares of farmland for irrigation farming and the upgrade of the airport for agro-cargo services.
“It also includes the development of an aerotropolis and Free Trade Zone with business parks, logistics hubs and residential areas.”
The D-G said the project located in Taraba, aimed to enhance agricultural logistics, improve market access and stimulate economic development.
Mr Ewalefoh said that the concession would among other things, boost agricultural productivity by enabling year-round irrigation farming and create employment opportunities.
He said that the concession would also attract investment in agribusiness and stimulate local and national economies through trade and exports.
Mr Ewalefoh said that with the Kashimbilla project, regional integration would be enhanced as Taraba would be connected to the national and international markets, facilitating trade, as thousands of direct and indirect jobs would be created.
He said that the project was expected to generate N4.1 trillion in revenue from multiple sources during the concession period.
If there is any truth the the claim that the mother of the student involved in that fracas alleged that her daughter suffered from mental illness, the speed with which the confrontation escalated to wrestling is less of a mystery in light of that new revelation.
Be that as it may, I would like you to consider how things would have turned out if the lecturer simply IGNORED whatever rude comments were made by that student, and continue walking along that hallway without showing any sign of having taken offence to what he heard.
In my opinion the entire storm in a teacup ONLY began when the lecturer laid hands on the woman and tried to grab her phone. That is where he crossed the line and put the student's tolerance of being manhandled to test. Regardless of whether the student had a history of mental illness, she would never have been placed in a position of having to physically defend herself, if that man had not attacked her spontaneously and in the absence of any direct PHYSICAL provocation.
The RIGHT thing that the lecturer should have done would have been to pull out his own phone and PHOTOGRAPH the student, so as to identify her for disciplinary action later. Instead of that rational approach, the lecturer descended into frenzied animalistic behavior by attacking a woman, which is COWARDLY and shows the man to be a bully who is NOT in control of his temper and is thus a danger to innocent people in his vicinity.
That lecturer deserves to be sacked immediately and blacklisted so that he can never lecture in any Nigerian university for as long as he lives.
I understand where you are coming from. In an ideal scenario all that you said right ABOVE is logical sequence.
However, there's ALSO CLEARLY another key point I didn't include in the last reply to you. After the girl nearly bumped into him while walking backwards filming herself with her mobile phone, he had to lightly tap her in order to call her attention to that situation. Now, just as he moved on after lightly tapping her, she spoke condescendingly and insulted him to the hearing of her friend and the male lecturer, so, he came back to know why she said those things.
I understand the perspective of simply walking away because things could have panned out differently and badly for the male lecturer if the whole scenario had NOT been recorded live (voice and audio). She even tore his cloths and accused him of touching her BOOBS which turned out not to be true based off of the video evidence. That's how bad things can quickly spiral out of control.
In any event, right BELOW is a link to where it was indicated by someone in the comments section of that link below that the girl's senior lecturer mother said she ISN'T "mentally stable" BUT another guy countered that allegation claiming that "proof" must be supplied by the girl's mother to indicate that she indeed had mental issues.
Excerpts of Some Comments BELOW: HRH Williams said: "According to her mum. She said her daughter has mental issues and isn't mentally stable."
Blaq Beautee reacted: "It’s a big lie. It’s probably a way to get her away from being disciplined. No matter how mentally unstable one is, they can’t go this far. Trust me, the mother is lying because she doesn’t want her child expelled or she losing her position."
Black Caeser added: "She will have to prove it with a prescription to show their board. I mean, this is unacceptable behavior. Yes, there are lecturers who have assaulted students in the past but the reverse is usually unheard of. You can tell the girl is ill mannered from the 1st video."
[quote author=COFFINSELLER post=134147941]The League of Imams in Yorubaland is supposed to know that this is not how it is done in Islam, even if they don’t want to obey the Sultan’s orders. In Islam, the commencement of Ramadan is not determined by fixed calculations or predictions. No one can precisely predict the exact date in advance, as it depends on the sighting of the new moon.
The Islamic lunar calendar is based on the phases of the moon, meaning the start of Ramadan can vary each year and even differ between regions.
While astronomical calculations can provide an estimated date, the final confirmation relies on the physical sighting of the crescent moon.
There are no videos or pictures here giving out more specifics. If there's an element of truth in overzealousness on the part of those sent to demolish the structures, then it should be looked into. But if it's another of those cases of unlawful or illegal acquisition of lands for property development like the case of Festac Town extension (where violators were told by the FHA to officially stop construction work years back and video evidence to that effect was clearly uploaded here on NL in 2023)OR the case of encroachment (from the boundary of Ajao Estate) on the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) lands with residential buildings illegally built very near potentially flammable aviation fuel pipelines, then they have to go! This is the reason why the illegally built buildings in both locations (Festac Town extension and Ajao Estate) were demolished leading to the insidious emotional blackmails we saw then, but these folks didn't realize that video evidence of prior warnings to STOP construction years back existed. In any event, the appropriate Lagos State agency OR a Federal agency such as the FHA would give warnings ahead of time for you to desist from further construction but these folks think they can always bribe their ways out until the big sledge hammer strikes hard.
Do your due diligence always before getting leased lands to construct any building anywhere in the world. Even Ghana experiences these sorts of things and leases are only given to foreigners in Ghana for 50 years max and you have to surrender the land and anything built on it to the original land owners who have the absolute prerogative to use it for other purposes. Period.
SamuelOamen: Afenifere Chieftain Pa Ayo Adebanjo is dead.
He died on Friday at his Lekki residence in Lekki.
He was 96.
A statement by the family said he died peacefully.
It reads: "With a heart full of gratitude for a selfless life spent in the service of God, the nation and humanity, we announce the passing on of our beloved patriarch, Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo.
"He died peacefully this morning, Friday, February 14, 2025 at his Lekki, Lagos Nigeria home at the age of 96.
"The foremost nationalist, elder statesman, distinguished lawyer, very distinct politician, apostle of true federalism, former organising secretary of Action Group and the national leader of Afenifere is survived by his 94 year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
"We will forever cherish his commitment to fighting for truth, equity and justice. His belief and struggle for a truly independent and progressive Nigeria was total and this he fought for until he breathed his last breath.
"The family is consulting with Papa's friends, associates, numerous interest groups across the length and breadth of Nigeria and beyond, to fine tune plans for a befitting funeral details which will be communicated in due course.
"Iroko to wo." That's the end of a era for one of the greatest colossuses ever to walk the sands of time. He was indeed an ardent Awoist and went to prison unjustly alongside Pa Anthony Enahoro, Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, and other great heroes on largely trumped up charges back in the early 1960s. Whatever he did or spoke from his 90s (especially in the lead up to the last election in Nigeria) to me was largely due to the effects of the ageing process, so, a lot of enlightened folks just had to cut him some slack despite feeling stunned and angry by his moves.
His wife is also 94. They've indeed got longevity in the immediate Pa Ayo Adebanjo family.
Jakumo: The following response was posted among others addressing this WRONGFUL and ILLEGAL dismissal of a university student who was forced to fight off a lunatic lecturer on a violent rampage and hellbent on groping a woman's breasts under a suitable pretext .
"Women's rights apply selectively in Nigeria. This female university student was minding her own business chatting with friends and using her phone while standing in a hallway exactly as all college student are prone to do when outside the classroom.
For reasons that simply do not matter from the standpoint of legality, this lecturer decided to grab the student's phone, thus committing a violent assault since the student resisted that attempt to grab her property. It is noteworthy that this lecturer decided to physically grapple with a female student despite the fact that she never made any initial attempt to touch his person by way of provocation.
It is obvious that this lecturer derived perverted sexual gratification from physically assaulting the female student, REGARDLESS of the flimsy excuse the man offered to explain his being the INSTIGATOR of that physical confrontation by his action of trying to grab a phone that was NOT his property, REGARDLESS of the excuses he may cook up to try and rationalize his momentary departure from sanity.
The lady who has been WRONGLY dismissed from university should now engage the services of a reputable and competent barrister at law who will then prepare a robust civil lawsuit demanding substantive monetary damages from the university that carried out this rash dismissal, AND from the sexual predator lecturer who used the color of authority to cop a feel and grab a woman's breasts because he was unable to control his animal instincts. An example MUST be set of this opportunistic bully who parades himself as a lecturer yet cannot control his raging lustful urges. "
@Jakumo, how's it going?
In a reaction video posted here on NL that I watched over again on this issue of the teenager (I assume she's still a teenager since she's only in her sophomore year) attacking the lecturer who also has a son in that Uni, her lecturer mother did claim that her girl has some mental health issues. So, if that's the case, it explains why she quickly unraveled like that in a vicious manner in public. Regardless, she should be taking her treatments from professional therapists to stabilize her and NOT be in an academic environment just yet filming herself on her mobile phone for social media uploads.
Fortunately, the male lecturer's spouse is a legal practitioner and that probably explains why he was VERY calm during the needless assaults (the hot slaps and a deep bite on his skin) on him by that girl knowing full well the legal implications.
I'm even in awe that a lot of the well-known females (who would have verbally savaged any man in this kinda situation) who use this discussion forum were in total support of the lecturer maybe because of the overwhelming video evidence against that girl. NOT just the females on this Website alone, but LARGELY most young and middle-aged women online and offline who saw the full video were in full support of the male lecturer. I hope that gives you fresh perspectives on this situation.
God1000: UNIZIK Student Who Fought With Her Lecturer For Passing While Doing TikTok Video has been expelled from The University
She got served hard on the eve of Lovers' day. Her lecturer mother allegedly did say the girl had mental health issues, so, they can head on over and take care of her properly if that is the case.
RabbitGuy: Thanks for watching. Note Rivers State is safe, the area his farm is located too is safe. So no issue of Fulani or kidnapping in this area
My pleasure. Is the Ghanaian gentleman based in PH? I too once lived and worked with a multinational corporation in PH from the 1990s to the 2000s and Rivers indigenes are GREAT folks (and I had wonderful memories as well). But I do remember a couple of kidnappings for ransom as well back in the day so this is why I made those suggestions about keeping a low profile. I guess things have truly changed now like you said.
Ah! That's brilliant. That's why your geopolitical analysis showed clarity in that post. I've a couple of friends of Kd origin as well from a few decades back... Great folks.
You can watch a few of the videos I saved a few years ago on my laptops (and posted again earlier on this thread for people to get a hang of the sequence of issues that occured in Kaduna for documentation or record purposes). Watch the FIRST video from the timestamp 8:00 minutes to see what Nasir El-Rufai said in February 2017 about the money paid by his government to foreign Fulani herdsmen to stop the revenge killings in Southern Kaduna (for an alleged 2011 killing of foreign Fulanis). I think that payment was highly irresponsible when the so-called foreign Fulani killers were known and should have been arrested, brought into Nigeria with the help of Interpol, and summarily prosecuted.
ADAMUdaCOWBOY: You are funny my guy! What exactly do you know about Kaduna? Do you think it is just divided into north and south? Kaduna has three electoral zones; Kaduna north, Kaduna central and Kaduna south. Kaduna south is completely a southern Kaduna enclave, Kaduna central is made up of several constituents and Chikun, Kaduna south and kajuru constitute about 49% of the voters in that zone. In the north, there are tribes who have not been treated nicely by the hausas even though they are Muslims. the hausas call them "Yare" meaning tribes because they feel they aren't like them. the truth is their vote never really counts. What gives the predominant northern hausas in Kaduna the political power they have is the division among the SK people in the past and the SK people are seeing their folly already. The composition of Kaduna state is not one that is easy to analyse.
Those are very analytical and insightful extrapolations from you. Are you originally from KD?
Tbh, this is what Nasir El-Rufai should have done for Southern Kaduna folks. It shows that real governance isn't rocket science but involves genuine emphaty for others.
The vicious mass killings and takeover of Southern Kaduna lands by foreign Fulani bandits with the subsequent confession on a live February 2017 "Sunrise Daily," Channels Television program with Gimba Umar (and Chamberlain Usoh) that payments of millions of compensation money was made by Nasir El-Rufai back in the 2010s to the foreign Fulani criminals (who came in illegally from Cameroon, Mali, Niger to wreak havoc and death on Southern Kaduna folks instead of getting those criminals arrested and prosecuted) is one of his undoings (though he probably may have meant well with the payments he made to the bandits) which led Southern Kaduna and other some parts to reject him and APC for the PDP. The former Governor El-Rufai though is well read, lacked deep emotional empathy and TACT tbh!
femisplash: Nigeria has signed a pipeline deal which would transport billions of cubic metres of gas 4,128 kilometres (2,565 miles) from Nigeria in West Africa through Niger and on to Algeria.
Officials from the three countries on Tuesday signed the deal in Algiers, Algeria’s capital, aimed at accelerating the development of a vast natural gas pipeline toward Europe.
The Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) deal would also see the gas pumped through the undersea Mediterranean pipeline, Transmed to Italy, or loaded onto liquefied natural gas tankers for export.
The contracts centred on “an update of the feasibility study” and other issues, including non-disclosure agreements among their state energy companies.
The feasibility update will lay out the “required means for accelerating the development of this major project in a timely manner and at competitive costs,” Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab said.
It's a very significant move here for the gas industry though. But with Trump's moves and what Zelensky of Ukraine said two or three days ago about a potential plan to let go of parts of Ukrainian lands to Russia in exchange for peace, the global crude oil price will definitely drop this year and Russian gas would potentially sell again to a wider European market if the EU choses to let in more Russian gas.
Realguyman1: But in my hometown in Edo State there is also Fulani herdsmen menace everywhere. My dad was into large farming b4, but it was this same Fulani herdsmen wahala that made him stop the large farming business and him decided to be making just little farms close to our house just for his personal usage only.
Fulani herdsmen came with their cows to my father's farm back then and destroy all the crops in huge hectares of land and nothing we could do about it other than to report the matter to the Community head then complain complain untill till matter died off. So many people in my hometown also had same experience many times and most of them decided to stop large farming because of that. They only makes little little farms on their backyards just for personal use only.
Even me here, I have called my people so many times that that I want to come home and invest in farming because I can't get enough land for farming over where I'm living, but they kept telling me that there is no huge space close to our village where I can farm because the whole villagers have pile themselves on the lands close to the village because they are all afraid to go to the reserve area. They told me me that the only place I can get huge space is at the reserve area, but if I dear going there, anything wey my eye see there make I take am like that.
What you wrote above made my heart skip some beats. How is this going to boost the local economy and ensure that Edo State gets back to the standards that Sam Ogbemudia left behind and even super exceeds it! Omoyele Sowore's younger biological brother who was then a student was kidnapped and killed in the same Edo State during the later part of Buhari's tenure and since then, I noticed a negative change in his personality ever since with him making occasional erratic and bitter comments online and offline (which wasn't like the Omoyele we used to know). That kind of situation and loss of a loved one can really mess the human mind up.
Edo and Delta States are bad cases here. I originally thought with the exit of the last Fulani President Buhari, things would have normalized. It's time for you the Edo folks led by Governor and community leaders to rein in the inflow of these illegal foreign Fulanis coming in from Kogi and Kwara States by ensuring that Kwara and Kogi States keep them out so, that Edo, Delta, Kwara, and Kogi States can have peace and big time farming can commence again. A poster on NL from Edo State also complained on one of the threads on kidnappings and killing that hit the NL frontpage that Edo State was witnessing highway kidnappings and house raids for the purpose of kidnapping by criminals in the Esan areas and along the Auchi-Ekpoma road with about 70 people kidnapped for rituals. So, internally, some Edo indigenes are fully involved in criminality as well.
Just 2 years ago towards the end of the former President Buhari's term, I listened to a major Victoria Island-based radio station online and the caller who is of Yoruba descent based in Lagos with roots in Ogun State said he invested millions on his large commercial farm in Kwara State and some bandits in form of Fulani herdsmen came there, but fortunately because he has a DRONE that he uses on the large farm, he was able to spot them on time while they invaded his farm. He said they had to abandon the farm in Kwara and relocated because of the persistent disturbance. He radically proposed on that radio program that people should go back to their "ancestral roots or villages" and "fortify themselves" against these Fulani invaders. That was coming from the mouth of an Ijebu man of slightly over 50 who was educated in the United Kingdom and had lived for years in the UK. It showed how serious the situation was.
I have seen 2 videos online this year of Hausa people complaining that Fulanis are illegally crossing into Nigeria and taking over Hausa lands after killing and chasing them away. They even said NO single Hausa man has ever been a Nigeria President or Head of State but the Fulanis had always produced their Governors and Presidents, but now vowed to resist the Fulani invasion. So, the porous borders have indeed led more Fulanis from the Sahel countries of Mali, Niger Republic, as far as Mauritania who are fleeing from wars and the Jihadist groups (JNIM and others) invasion of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso to flee into Nigeria with their families and this is causing a spike in their presence with the attendant competition for land. The Intelligence Agencies and the Nigerian governments at all levels (with a non-Fulanis as President and Vice-Presidents of Nigeria) have to really deal ruthlessly with these illegal Fulani aliens because Nigeria CANNOT be turned into the headquarters of all the Fulanis who aren't more than 20 million in the whole of West Africa compared to let's say the Hausas who are 80 million in both Nigeria and Niger Republic.
