Meti99:It's the controversial "Toruebe State" proposal which I first heard of in the 2000s when the Ilaje-Yorubas, Bini-Edos, and Itsekiris jointly denounced in the media, the plan of the migrant Ijaws to annex their lands into the so-called Toruebe. The Ijaws of Arogbo were accused of being migrants from the Arogbo area of Bayelsa who came through the inner river or water was and were offered temporary fishing settlements to stay in these above ethnic areas only for the Ijaws to turn around and start claiming the lands to belong to them. So, "Torumbe" is a typographic error which has been wrogly published by the media. |
GistMedia0:That's rather cute... She's a daddy's girl. That's the kind of bond a lot of girls don't get from their fathers till they reach adulthood and then start verbally demeaning men including their fathers. Most marital breakdowns are partly caused by the lack of a father figure in a girl's life from childhood. The father would obviously have taken permission from the teacher or school to bring a cake over to appreciate his daughter and celebrate the occasion with her classmates. This is for some of those obviously bitter posters who cannot process things logically. It's clear from the video that the girls classmates were happy with her for the brief moment the father came in with the surprise birthday cake. Period. |

aswani:@aswani, I just saw your mention. Indeed, you're absolutely right. The Yewas (formerly called Egbados) and Aworis of Ogun State are two different Yoruba sub-ethnic groups. Thanks for pointing that out. So, that makes largely Egbaland and Yewaland in the new Ogun State. The remaining state would largely be an aquatic and agricultural community with already existing industrial and manufacturing hubs as well. There's also some crude oil and gas findings on Tongeji Island in Ipokia which is in Yewaland. NNPCL To Begin Oil, Gas Exploration In Ogun State https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwhUyOir-Vo?si=6i7U05HXQW7npK7R TVC News Nigeria • May 31 2024 Yewa people Live in the western part of Ogun State, including Yewa South, Yewa North, Ipokia, and Imeko Afon local government areas. Awori people Live in Lagos State and some parts of Ogun State, including Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area. Last but not least, remember that Chief Obafemi Awolowo became the Premier of the Old Western region (in the early 1950s till 1960 when he became the leader of the opposition in the Federal parliament) which included Yorubaland and the entire people of the current Edo and Delta State (Edos, Aniomas, Ijaws, Itsekiris, etc) who used to be the Old Mid-West after the 1963 referendum, to the Mid-West State created by General Yakubu Gowon among 12 new states on May 27 1967. The testimonials of Chief Awolowo's free education programs and new schools built in the entire Old Western Region from the current Yoruba States, to Edo to Anioma in Delta are still remembered till today. The former of Delta State, Governor Ifeanyi Ikowa's octogenarian father was interviewed some years back in Sunday Punch and he gave a history of how the institution that Chief Awolowo built enabled him to attend higher education. Comrade Eva, an Ijaw activist from Delta State also paid glowing tributes to Chief Awolowo for helping to bring education to people in his part of the Niger Delta. |
Josepholome:That's impressive. Polo... The game of royalty, big spenders and the military. |
Pickup8:That's impressive of you. You are part of ONLY 5 out of the identified posters here by me that made a LOT of sense NOT these other half-baked random posts based off of the herd instinct! I carefully read a vast number of this thread pages and was just going to also give my opinion about the high levels of semi-literacy OR lack of comprehension, and unnecessary emotive posts among a VAST number of NL posters here. Decision-making is serious business NOT these childish rants from some. The 31 states were simply PROPOSALS from the past decades of which ONLY the most VIABLE states would be created and even boundary adjustments can be done to bring closely related sub ethnic and ethnic groups or people together into an already existing state from another state in order to reduce discrimination and lack of development. |
aswani:You made some absolutely valid points here. The Aworis (Aworis are descended from Olofin Ogunfunminire of Ufe (or Ife) royal lineage and he migrated from Ufe (Ife) centuries ago with the "Awo" OR sacrificial plate hence the Yoruba name "Awori" meaning the "floating sacrificial plate sank" in the river according to instructions from Ifa divinition. His direct male descendants are the current White Cap Chiefs of Lagos Island who are also the titled owners of the lands on Lagos Island. His other direct descendants are the royal custodians of the tradition of several communities on Lagos Mainland and the other Islands of Lagos State) are indigenous to 17 out of the 20 LGAs of Lagos State. So, Aworis aren't that small BUT I absolutely agree with you that the Awori-Yoruba folks should be merged with their Awori kith and kin in the industrial town of Ota and other Awori towns in Ogun State, but this time to form the larger Lagoon State OR Eko State as in indigenous name if they want to do away with the Portuguese derived name called Lagos. The new state would be very economically viable (just like the proposed Ijebu State) because both states would have direct access to the Atlantic Ocean, they both are connected to international business hubs, they both have bitumen deposits alongside crude oil and gas deposits as confirmed in discoveries from Lekoil and Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum since the late 1990s, etc. In all these boundary adjustments, it suddenly stunned me that Egbaland Abeokuta and other Egba towns) would largely be left alone to form a new Ogun State if the Aworis of Ogun and Lagos States are merged to firm a new State alongside the proposed Ijebu State! Did you know that when Lagos State was created among a total of 12 new states by General Yakubu Gowon on May 27 1967, 95% of the total land mass of the current Lagos State was carved out of the Old Western Region? Many towns in Lagos State today such as Ikeja, Agege, Badagry, Ojo, Mushin, Iganmu, Ilupeju, Isolo, Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, the entire Lekki Peninsula, Apapa, etc, were ALL administered by Chief Jeremiah Obafemi Awolowo, GCFR, SAN, and his fellow Action Group team thereby creating the famous Ikeja Industrial Estate, the elite Ikeja GRA, Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Iganmu Industrial Estate, Isolo Industrial Estate, Oluyole Industrial Estate in Ibadan, and more. Apapa port was the direct point of shipment of goods manufactured in the Industrial Estates of the Old Western Region (before and after the Mid-west Region was created in 1963 through an act of referendum). Of course other river ports such as Warri, Koko, etc, in today's Delta State were used to export rubber, timber, oil palm, and more from the current Edo and Delta States (then located in the Old Western Region). As for the Ilaje-Yorubas of Ondo State and Ijaw living in Ondo State, the Ilaje folks emphatically claimed with historical evidence that the Arogbo Ijaws are migrants who came from the Arogbo area of Bayelsa State. This was the same accusation the Benin-Edos and Itsekiris alongside the Ilaje-Yorubas made in their joint 1-page newspaper press release back in the late 2000s indicating that a popular Ijaw historian by the name Alagoa and even the iconic freedom fighter of the 1960s, Jasper Adaka Boro all clearly stated in their separate books on Ijaw and Niger Delta history that the boundaries of Ijaw people ended at the Forcados River (since Forcados is part of the larger Ijaw community). ALL Niger Deltan ethnic groups have a culture of migratory fishing and temporary settlement in one another's fishing settlements for decades. So, the 3 groups jointly wondered why the Ijaws would have the audacity to jump right over Itsekiriland into the current Edo State through the inland rivers and the Ondo State axis as migratory fishermen living in temporary settlements ONLY to start claiming years later that the fishing settlements given to them by their hosts belongs to Ijaws. Hence the REJECTION of the so-called "Toruebe State" by the Ilajes, Benin-Edos and the Itsekiris in the late 2000s for stealing their ancestral lands. |
abbey621:Lagoon State (after the Ijebu-speaking parts of Ikorodu, Epe, and Ibeju-Lekki LGAs including Ajah have been excised from Lagos State and merged with the rest of Ijebuland right across the border in Ogun State to form the new Ijebu State) is what was proposed in the Ijebu and Lagoon States maps that I first saw back in the late 2000s. It's definitely going to be a very viable state with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean and an international business hub. I sort of favor Eko State as an alternative if if the Portuguese derived name "Lagos" is finally dropped with the administrative capital still located in Alausa, Ikeja. The Yoruba folks have for decades now (since May 27,1967) officially referred to Lagos State as "Ipinle Eko." So," Governor of Eko State" should suffice. |
Christistruth02:NEVER! I'm a "blood brother" as well. With a deep knowledge of advanced history and the ability to detect patterns used by people with very dishonest intentions, there's NO way we're gonna let the dark-minded, outside entities to create chaos. Thanks to the historically gallant Ibadan army and other military generals such as Balogun Oderinlo of Ibadan (Oderinlo and a few Ibadan Yoruba military commanders were Muslims as well who defeated the so-called Fulani jihadists) who conclusively defeated the Fulani jihadist invaders (and some of their Ilorin Muslim Yoruba collaborators who pointed out the way) at the battle of Osogbo in 1840 and also at Otun-Ekiti where the jihadist invaders faced another bloody defeat, and they never tried invading core Yorubaland again. Another great war where these Fulah jihadi invaders were conclusively defeated was the 1878 Jalumi War in Ikirun, Osun State and the Offa War of 1886 to 1890, not far from Ilorin. My positive thoughts go to the thousands of Ibadan army personnel and other Yoruba military forces from the 1830s and 1840s, and beyond, etc, who gallantly defended the Yoruba homeland against these foxy jihadi invaders right up to Ekiti otherwise several Yoruba cities and towns would have been under a minority foreign Fulani rulers (and perhaps including significant parts of modern Edo and Delta States). In 1840, Ibadan army defeated the Fulani at Osogbo. From there, they began retaking Yoruba settlements conquered by the Fulani (Akinjogbin 1998; Johnson 1921). This victory encouraged Ibadan to extend the campaign to Ekiti and other towns in the north that had been threatened by Ilorin since 1835.You can read my original post that you quoted on the previous page of this thread which is just right above your post to see the re-edited version. I added just a few comments and corrections to it for more clarity. Enjoy your day. |

Rebuker:Kemi Badenoch, in a press release, stated: "Britain is our home. It's not a hotel..." "Were gidi ni 'omo' Kemi yi sa.".. ![]() She made valid points though. Kemi is fully married to a White British investment banking guy (with Scottish Jewish roots who's also her age of 45 as of 2025), and she has kids for him, so, logically, she has stronger ties with the UK than if let's say she was married to a fellow male British-Nigerian, then her tougher immigration comments would have seemed really crazy. It's some of her past very careless comments that got many UK-based Diaspora folks that I know including myself really pissed off. However, this is a major call to action for Nigeria and other Commonwealth countries (including several countries of the world) to immediately decentralize governance at the Federal levels to the States and local governments, free up more funds from natural resources, add value to agricultural and mineral products instead of exporting them raw to Europe and Asia, teach financial literacy on a massive scale for free (or for a fee), etc, so as to rapidly stimulate growth and development. Hence, this would STOP the drift of those who absolutely have NO business migrating to the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, South Africa, etc. Most folks should only be traveling to those places for occasional holidays, some further education, and to wrap up business deals. Christistruth02:*raised eye brows* My friend, I just saw your mention. Did you read my post properly at all? It seems you wanted to reply someone else on this thread and MISTAKENLY replied me. From the bolded last paragraph of your post, you seem to think I'm a Muslim and of far-Northern Nigeria descent which I'm NOT. Go right back and read my full post again then you will get a proper hang or thrust of my post. For decades now (right from 1981), I've gained a deep knowledge from reading advanced books and materials in the field of "comparative religion," so, I know a lot about the secrets and origins of Islam (and the contradictions and dogmas of other major world religions such as Xtianity as well). I don't need to be told by anybody about the dichotomy, laws and schisms that exist in Islam for centuries as it relates to "Muslims in predominantly Muslim communities or countries NOT allowing their daughters to marry non-Muslims for instance," and the other detail you stated in your second paragraph. |

Zulu11zulu:It's highly DISHONEST of you to post misleading information here on page 1 of this thread WRONGLY claiming that the Adegoke family (Kemi's maiden family name) were illegal immigrants who entered the United Kingdom Illegally! Many Diasporans I know including myself are NOT fans of Kemi's talkativeness, BUT Kemi's parents were highly educated and lived comfortably with her father being a medical doctor and her mother a professor who taught in the United States where Kemi also lived with her professor mother. She spent about 8 year of her life in the United States and about that same number of years in Nigeria before going to do her A-levels in 1996 in the United Kingdom where she was born at just the impressionable teenage age of 16! As of 1979 and 1980 when Kemi's parents were in England and she was born, it was very EASY to get visas and fly into the United Kingdom for a lot of Nigerian folks and I can confirm this as someone who was alive at that time. The iconic British Caledonian Airways and Nigeria Airways were the major airlines that regularly flew to and fro Lagos to London. We folks who could afford it traveled to London and NY regularly for holidays, business, and studies. Stop defaming people you don't know with lies and misleading hundreds of ignorant and gullible readers on this thread who have already given you over "100 likes" right on page one of this thread for your misleading post. aswani:@aswani Just for some more clarity... The Aworis are indigenous to 17 out of the 20 LGAs of Lagos State (and this includes parts of Badagry LGA). The Ogus are also in Badagry LGA and parts of Ogun State leading right into Benin Republic. Lastly, the Ijebus have 3 LGAs of Ikorodu, Epe, and Ibeju-Lekki as stated earlier (including Ajah). I once saw the maps of the proposed Ijebu State years back in the 2000s and the plan was to have the Aworis and Ogus remain in the new Lagoon State (after the excision of Ijebuland from Lagos State). So, the plan was to delete the name "Lagos State" and replace it with Lagoon State. I also think that to cut costs, boundary adjustments can be done to bring subethnic groups located in different states of Nigeria together such as the Tivs in Benue, Nassarawa, and Taraba States. The Okun-Yorubas can be merged with the Yorubas of Kwara State. If the Oba of Benin doesn't stand in the way like the Palace was alleged to have done in the past, the people of Usen and 2 other towns in Ovia South-West LGA of Edo State had long requested to join Ondo State because of their Ufe (Ile Ife or Uhe) ancestry. You know the greet one another with the family salutation of "delauhe" OR in English "how is Uhe (Ife)?" The Igala communities in Anambra and Enugu can be merged to create a state for them if they are big and viable enough or simply merge them to join the Igala folks of Kogi State. The Nupes of Kwara North can be merged with the Nupes of Niger State, the Ijaws of Delta State can be merged with Bayelsa, etc. These are just examples right off the bat. |
aswani:In addition... Ikorodu, Epe and Ibeju-Lekki being Ijebu indigenous Local Governments in Lagos State should also be part of Ijebu State OR they should simply forget about creating any Ijebu State and Lagoon State from Lagos State. [Ajah on the Lekki Peninsula is also part of the larger Ijebuland stretching right into Ogun State]. With the planned Epe-Lekki International Airport right on Ijebu soil in Lagos State, I'm still wondering how Ijebu State will now pan out since Lagos State Ijebu in the Diaspora and in Nigeria have long requested for their merger with the Ijebus of Ogun to create a distinct Ijebu State. Administratively, Ijebu State would be viable because of access to the Atlantic Ocean and international business hubs. In any event, the Awori-Yorubas straddle both sides of the Lagos and Ogun States borders just like the Ijebu-Yorubas also straddle both sides of the Lagos and Ogun States borders, so the status quote can just simply remain. |
Infoguy666:The section of the article that caught my eyes is the so-called "Toruebe" from Ondo State. That one is already dead on arrival because I remember back in the 2010s, the Edos, Ilajes, and Itsekiris had jointly place a 1-page advert in the print media denouncing the attempt by the Ijaws to forcibly take their ancestral lands by carving out land from Ondo, Edo, and Delta States to create the "Toruebe" State. The Ijaws were accused of being migrant settlers from the Bayelsa area in the fishing communities located in Ondo, Edo, and Delta States only to turn around decades later to begin to claim that the fishing settlements belong to Ijaws. The same thing happened according to Soku indigenes in the case of Rivers State where Ijaw fishermen from Nembe in the Bayelsa State axis migrated many decades ago only to start claiming ownership of the fishing settlements in Soku and that's incidentally where the multimillion USD Soku Gas project is located. This had led to communal clashes and killings since the 1970s. The penchant for some Ijaws to notoriously encroach on other Ijaw people's communities and lands OR on other ethnic group's ancestral lands over the decades is legendary! Cc: @aswani, I just logged in and saw your latest mention. Coincidentally, I had posted the above info on the Ilaje/Ijaw issue which you can read. Toruebe State which Ijaws are asking for also includes alleged Bini-Edo lands and Itsekiriland which the three groups kicked against back in the media in the 1990s and late 2000s. |

Now, there's ABSOLUTELY NO where in world history where Yoruba folks back in the 1800s willingly asked the British to subjugate them. NEVER! First off, the indigenous Ijebu-Yorubas of the present Lagos and Ogun States resisted British forces but got subsequently defeated due to superior fire power. Second, the bombardments of Eko Island (Lagos Island) by British Naval ships took place and Oba Kosoko of Eko fiercely resisted with his defense barricades and well-stocked firepower made up of guns and several canons fired back at the British, taking a few weeks before Eko was finally subdued. Third, in Ilorin, the Yoruba general, Balogun Alanamu (who was the most powerful man in Ilorin) and his lieutenants and men resisted (fought) the invasion of Ilorin in the 1890s by George Goldie's armed Royal Niger group. Ilorin was effectively and totally in the hands of the Yorubas for (years after the foreign impostor Fulani invaders had been crushed) as of the time George Goldie arrived. The fight by the Yorubas of Ilorin led by Balogun Alanamu and his men against the British is what led to them being "deported" from Ilorin after their defeat and the British ignorantly and stupidly brought a Northern Gambari as an Ilorin amir unknown to them, Ilorin is originally a Yoruba town and it was later realized by the British invaders that Ilorin is indeed part of the larger Yorubaland (as clearly written by Sir Allan Burns, the former Governor-General of Nigeria in his book the "History of Nigeria" first published in the 1920s) and this is why the British Colonialists in their archives clearly stated before they left Nigeria in 1960 that a referendum should be done in Ilorin and they affirmed that the Yorubas of Ilorin should have an Oba (King) of their own. Sir Allan Burns CLEARLY stated in his iconic book that out of the top 10 most populous towns in Nigeria [as of the 1920s when he finished writing his book the History of Nigeria], 9 of the towns were Yoruba towns, except Kano. He listed Ilorin, Lagos Island (Eko), Ibadan, Osogbo, and more among the top 10 most populous towns in Nigeria. Last but not least, it was the devastating defeats (suffered by the impostor Fulani Jihadist invaders and their Yoruba Muslim collaborators in the 1840s battle of Osogbo), especially in the hands of the gallant Ibadan Army led by the military Generals such as Balogun Oderinlo [Balogun (General) Oderinlo was himself a practicing Muslim but he fought in the defense of Yorubaland against the Jihadist invaders] and other gallant Yoruba military forces. This is why the Muslim Yoruba Jihadist collaborators were specially "beheaded as punishment" for betraying Yorubaland. Another major battle took place at Otun-Ekiti In the current Ekiti State where the Jihadists were finally defeated and crushed to the point that they NEVER tried the nonsense again. All these FACTS can be read in iconic books such as the "History of Yorubas" by Samuel Johnson, a Yoruba man of royal Oyo descent who is Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther's cousin. Just like Samuel Johnson, Ajayi Crowther himself was an Oyo and a direct descendant of Alaafin Abiodun, the Emperor of the Oyo Empire back in the late 1700s. "The History of Nigeria" is another iconic book (written by Sir. Allan Burns who was the former Governor-General of Nigeria and Gold Coast now Ghana) which details EXACTLY this same history showing the multiple defeats by the Yorubas of the jihadists (who consisted of Muslim Yorubas, Fulanis, some Hausas, etc). The Yoruba folks who number over 70 million worldwide as of today are NOT cowards! This is why Ogun, the God or deity of WAR and IRON in the Yoruba religion was and still is venerated in Yorubaland. Traditional Yoruba culture does NOT teach Yorubas to turn the other check! You must take revenge culturally and this is why a Yoruba will be smiling with you after you have offended him in the past, but he will still take that revenge and remind you of what you did in the past right in your face! If the powerful Ibadan military commanders and the forces including other towns in Yorubaland had NOT defeated the Jihadists who came via the Yoruba city of Ilorin, the Yorubas would now be having a Fulani Amir in Lagos, Ibadan, Osogbo, and more. Highly ignorant young people like you come online to troll while post inciting and misleading information from ipob propaganda troll farms on NL, (a Website owned by a Yoruba guy) BUT this will NOT be tolerated again. I have written all these so that others can read it as well and get properly informed on documented history. |

I remember from reading the front page of Punch and others in 2006 that it's the print media especially that ran off with sensationalism in their headlines twisting the original comments Nuhu made which wasn't an actual indictment of the then Governors listed. It’s pretty obvious that Nasir (who I liked for his vast Western education) has for some years developed a narcissistic, paranoid attitude, laced with an impulsive, leaky mouth and is indeed desperate to pull others down politically and it will do him NO good because if he is NOT careful, the case of him paying millions to foreign Fulani bandits from Cameroon who brutally killed several Southern Kaduna people will be used against him. On the other hand, Rotimi Amaechi who I liked for his rather blunt comments and gentle mien in the past has even before Buhari left the Presidency developed an impulsive and leaky mouth! These are NOT the attributes of men people can trust whether in politics OR outside politics. It's obvious these 2 dudes with their relentless, rabid anti-party comments have left APC but are still claiming to be members of that party which they still dubiously claim to be members of. There is indeed an urgent need for the sincere mental evaluation and psychoanalysis of a lot of people because the human brain is indeed fragile and susceptible to stem cells damage... It's quite stunning that folks (especially males) who used to be cool and well-spoken in the past suddenly develop a narcissistic and vindictive mien. |
InfoGuru118:I originally got to know of this young lady 2 years ago through one of her viral videos and her followership on IG was partly based off of the random flauntings of her boobs and bums twerking (while wearing just her underwears in her bedroom right in front of some of her fans on IG live). She had a goofy, carefree, jovial mien though. She's passed on now and it just shows yet again the ephemeral phase of existence of the "human animal." Born in 1990 and bowed out in 2025. My condolences to her fam. |
