IkeGod9891: Yoruba dey respect their elders. Wetin come Happen here?.
The young dude, Victor Osimhen is an Esan-Edo by descent but was born and grew up in Lagos State and speaks Yoruba fluently.
I've known many Esan folks for decades now who speak Yoruba language fluently because they were born or grew up in Yorubaland and even intermarried with Yoruba folks like Pastor Ituah Ighodalo's father who married a Yoruba woman. But Esans are from Edo State and originally migrated from Benin based on their history that I've read. Hence Esan and Bini languages are up to 91 percent similar to one another in terms of linguistic lexicons.
Emma1Oj: Edo pple. It's part of their nature.. hanger, disrespectful, pride and I don't care attitude.
Don't ask me. Ask Oduduwa why he ran away from Bendel state to Isale eko then.
So na generational thing. No be today hey start.
Which Oduduwa ran away from Bendel State to Isale Eko nitori Olorun? Nothing like that ever happened in history.
Victor Osimhen is an Esan-Edo dude from Edo State but was born and grew up in Lagos hence his fluency in Yoruba language.
Oduduwa had NOTHING to do with Isale Eko in the current Lagos State.
Maybe you are referring to Oranmiyan (the first Oba of Benin) who left Benin over 800 years ago after having his son Eweka (the second Oba of Benin by the daughter of a noble man at Egor) and then returned to Ile Ife where he originally came from via Usen before establishing what metamorphosed into the Oyo Empire.
Nigerian skipper who had recently gotten into a feud with Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, almost got into quarrel with his friends telling him to calm down
Ah! Thank you for the doggedness. I'll download it on my device right away. (before it get's pulled down from YouTube by the uploader)... I finally watched the shorts @chiveramedia and it's a hilarious anecdote of how body language and psychology is used to bargain. Nice one.

GboyegaD: I don't know how to haggle prices and avoid it as much as I can. During my undergraduate days, I used to think I was doing great because I try to think about prices from a Lagos perspective. A friend followed me one day and a piece of fish that I buy for N30 he priced it for N10. Since then, I will tell him in class if I need go to the market. He was sometimes pissed because he thought I was wasteful since I buy so much and I go to the market frequently.
I don't think it is because I am shy because I am reserved and not shy. I think most times for me, it comes from a place of empathy perhaps, because I feel they are going through much stress selling under the sun.
At some point, I wouldn't buy things for my younger sister when I started working because anything I buy is always too expensive in her opinion because I do not haggle prices.
That said, haggling is different from bargaining. I can bargain for a fair income because there is an industry standard and average which usually is my start point and I put my reasonable percent above it.
The bolded is succinctly stated.
Just as I also stated in my earlier post to the OP here, doing an online price comparison before setting out would enable a person to get a hang of the average retail price of items you want to get at the mall or the open markets so that you can negotiate properly and not start beating the price to below the seller's cost price.
There should be a win-win situation where the seller can make his or her own profit based on a reasonable mark-up as well.
Goalnaldo: I watched a video on tiktok or Instagram few days ago about the bargaining power of African mothers 😂 she told her daughter to price yam, the seller told her it's 3000, but she can pay 2800 last price, she went to tell her mum, her mum said "what"! and tied her wrapper very well 🐱 went to bargain and they gave her two of the yams for 350. I wan die with laughter 🤣🤣
@Goalnado, kindly post the TikTok or IG video here? I reckon it's a very funny video from your post. N350 for two yams down from N3000 each... Lol.
natedensel: Is it just me or it's same with other guys, the embarrassment I feel is as if I'm the one doing something embarrassing, and I can't help the feeling, because of that I shy away from buying foodstuff or other stuff that will make me bargain.
Most times I ask my sisters or girlfriend to accompany me so she can do the bargaining or get the stuff for me.
My older brother bargains alot like he can't do without bargaining and for that I avoid going anywhere with him.
Incase you're wondering how I survive without bargaining, I just use people close to me when its something I must bargain for, but if it's something like clothes, I know the standard price for stuff like that so I just make an offer, and for basic things like packaged groceries I buy from supermarkets in more than one quantity.
You're just being too "self-conscious." There are ALWAYS opportunities to bargain for anything. It's at the bedrock of the arbitrage businesses where you buy low and sell high to earn a tidy profit.
In reality though, I do not like it when some people haggle excessively below the cost price... Just do it in moderation and make your purchase at a slightly lower price than the original mark-up that the seller gave you.
Last but NOT least, better still, you can do price comparison shopping online to get a hang of the average prices of things and then go to the shopping mall or open market and get your items at a bargain so that you don't get cheated.
Remman: kikikikikiki... Keep dreaming! You even forgot that the coalition then broke out into pieces and that's why you lost the battle. When Ojukwu or whatever it's called gave other regions that were part of the struggle false hope, thereby betraying their trust, they all decamped back to Nigeria, that was when they led the Nigerian military into Port Harcourt and Biafra was roasted. We the Ikweres now respond to the Ojukwu's betrayal by taking back all our estates and landed properties that the Igbos claimed on our invaded lands. They even named many of our streets including streets at the heart of Port Harcourt and Ijaw with Igbo names, of which some has being renamed to reflect the true owners' name.
For someone to come now and claim that Niger Delta is still part of Biafra, is a fake dream.
Succinctly stated.
Your sequence of history relating to aspects of the Nigerian Civil War years is near-accurate based on my deep knowledge from the many Nigerian Civil War books written by combatants on the Federal side and the secessionist rebel side.
The Nigerian Civil War books of General Olusegun Obasanjo, Captain Elechi Amadi (He was a member of the 3rd Marine Commando of the Nigerian Army after his release from the imprisonment in Port Harcourt by the rebel secessionists), Godwin Alabi-Isama, Alexander Madiebo, and many more have been read by me for decades now.
antispexish: Following the sale of the first oil production from Aje field, partners in the Oil Mining Lease 113 offshore Lagos, where the field is located, have earned their first income.
A top official of one of the partners disclosed this in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday, saying the second sale would be done before the end of the year.
The Aje field, which was discovered 25 years ago, achieved its first oil five months ago. A London-based energy firm, MX Oil, one of the partners, on Wednesday, said it had received $1.2m from the sale of the first oil production.
The AIM-quoted oil and gas investing company said in an update on its website that the money was received by the PR Oil and Gas Limited, the holder of its investment in the OML 113.
Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Company Limited, a wholly-owned indigenous firm and operator of the OML 113, had on May 3 announced the commencement of crude oil production on the field.
Other partners are New Age Exploration Nigeria Limited, EER (Colobus) Nigeria Limited, Pan Petroleum (Panoro Energy) Aje Limited and PR Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited. Panoro Energy, an independent exploration and production company with assets in Nigeria and Gabon, had in July said several international oil companies and trading houses had expressed interest in purchasing the crude produced from the Aje field. The company, in its half year and second quarter report 2016 released in August, said the Nigerian regulators had approved the production and export sale from Aje. It had said the first cargo of Aje crude should be lifted in September and Glencore Energy UK Limited was selected for its offtake.
Panoro said the average gross daily production at Aje, calculated from the first oil in May until mid-August, had been 5,500 barrels, which included the entire testing, commissioning, and approval period completed in mid-July.
The Chief Executive Officer, MX Oil, Stefan Olivier, on Wednesday, said, “We are very pleased to announce that the first oil production from the Aje field has been sold and that we have now received our first income from our investment in the OML 113.”
The Chief Executive Officer, Panoro Energy, John Hamilton, who described the achievement of oil production at Aje as a milestone for the company, said the sale of the first cargo of oil during September represented the start of positive cash inflows from the Aje project.
Aje is an offshore field located in the OML 113 in the western part of Nigeria in the Dahomey Basin. The field is situated in water depths ranging from 100 to 1,000 metres and is about 24 kilometres from the coast. It contains hydrocarbon resources in sandstone reservoirs in three main levels – a Turonian gas condensate reservoir, a Cenomanian oil reservoir and an Albian gas condensate reservoir.
The joint venture partners had in October 2014 taken the final investment decision to develop the first phase of the field.
They submitted the Field Development Plan to the Department of Petroleum Resources in January 2014 and it was approved in March, with the first oil expected late in 2015. Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum was granted the Oil Prospecting Licence 309 in June 1991 as a sole risk contract under the Federal Government’s Indigenous Allocation Programme, which was put in place to encourage the development of a locally-owned and operated Nigerian upstream oil industry.
The company said, following the acquisition of 2D seismic data in 1994/95, and the drilling of the Aje-1 well in 1996, the field was discovered, adding that a second well, Aje-2, was drilled in 1997.
As can be seen in the video and several online newspaper reports below... This is an unfortunate throwback to the PDP years of former President Goodluck Jonathan right up to July/August 2016 of the early APC era of the Buhari Presidency when several Ijaw kidnapping gangs, armed robbers, and pipeline vandals (all of Ijaw descent) blatantly used their speedboats using the Lagos and Ogun States creeks and water ways to terrorise, murder, gang rape and kidnap many folks including a first-class Oba of Iba Kingdom from his palace in Lagos and several children from elite high schools within the creeks and water ways of Lagos and Ogun States.
They also committed many bank robberies in the Victoria Island and Festac/Amuwo Odofin through the water ways as well but fortunately, many of them were caught and busted during the Buhari Presidency from July/August 2016 when he finally ordered that several Air Force jet fighters and other reconnaissance platforms be used to destroy the criminals and their hide outs in Lagos, Ogun, and Ondo States in 2016, and there was peace eventually. Many of the Ijaw criminal elements were from Delta and Bayelsa States based on the interrogations carried out. One of those arrested for the bank robberies where bank customers lost their lives in the Festac Town and Amuwo Odofin areas was a young Ijaw guy who had been made a so-called High Chief from an Ijaw settlement in Delta State. He confessed that the financial pressures on him as a chief pushed him to go armed robberies and kidnappings as far as the creeks of Lagos and Ogun States.
I remember that even the amiable former Bayelsa State's Governor Seriake Dickson's biological sister was kidnapped while he was Governor for 2 whole months in the creeks because he VOWED that ransom money would NOT be paid to the kidnappers. Ijaw folks too were victims of those Ijaw criminal gangs so the Intelligence Agencies must beam a serious searchlight on that end of the lead.
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) again today struck at criminal hideouts and camps harbouring pipeline vandals at AREPO and environs. The latest air strike is in continuation of the aerial bombardment commenced by the NAF on Thursday 28 July 2016 to rid the affected areas of pipeline vandals and other criminal elements.
The ongoing air operations is aimed at providing air support for the Joint Task Force recently set-up by the Defence Headquarters to dislodge pipeline vandals in the South West region of the Country in an operation codenamed operation awatse.

No matter d insult, intolerance &display of uncouthness,I will remain what I hv always been. A TRUE NATIONALIST. We hv invested too much in each other to go back on commitment to brotherhood & national unity. This new wave of bigotry will not undo d friendship already established.
Is it a coincidence that nearly 80% of those who insult, abuse, disparage & are intolerant of my views on this platform are frm one ethnic nationality? Wow!I hv been a nationalist all my life & politics.Freely I went out of my way on principle to support d SE quest for Presidency.
I supported Shagari when Awolowo was a candidate. I supported Tofa when Abiola was a candidate.I supported Jonathan when d mainstream SW supported Buhari.More recently I supported Obi even when Tinubu was a candidate. My past records of a detrabilised politician is unassailable
dominic17: “People must have an understanding that all that government is doing is for the interest of all.
“As a government, we will not rest on our effort to ensure that all illegal structures on canals, drainages and other public ways responsible for flooding are cleared for a flood-free Lagos,” he said.
Some residents of the estates who spoke with NAN commended the government for the bold step to clear the illegal structures.
Austin Odinaka, a resident, said the street gate constructed around his street always caused flooding, causing them to take longer journeys out of the estate.
Another resident, simply identified as Sunny, said they tried to intervene when they were constructing some street gates, but they were ignored by the initiators of the construction.
Sunny, however, blamed some Lagos State Government Officials and traditional rulers of the area, who collected money and allowed the illegal structures to be constructed.
A victim, whose illegal structure was marked for demolition along the canal, Mrs Nancy Okafor, said she purchased the land from one Mr Odo Chibuzor, at the sum of N536,000, with a receipt given to the Corps Marshall as evidence.
Eriokanmi: I pick karma, nothing humorous or passionate about the fall. Imagine him saying democracy is worth falling for, that as a yoruba boy, all he did was dobalę. If we want to dobalę, we don't fall like someone suffering from seizures or epilepsy the way he did. We have a way of doing dobalę. This is a proof he can deny anything, even in the face of a reality.
What that statement simply means is...I can lie as an old man, to all who trusted in me and nothing will happen. I don't give a damn. I can change the red colour you are all seeing to blue and you can't do anything.
I just pity those following this man and calling them their mentor. Agbalagba oniro
@Eriokanmi,
I watched the viral "dobale" video. He was just being humorous before going on to the main body of his extempore speech that emphasized more on democracy. He got some smiles and a little laughter from that. But like the U.S.-based Farook Kperogi said in the body of the article, his aides have to ensure he dresses appropriately for the occasion next time.
For the rest of us folks, it's a further reminder that we have to keep our eyes wide open and pay attention to little details when walking on a potentially slippery tiled bathroom floor, while climbing up and down the stairs, or while coming down from a car or bus. I've miss-stepped or tripped before, landed hard, and it seemed like a dream to me. Thank goodness my head missed a blunt surface by a few inches. But I learned from that experience to pay more attention to details with my eyes, ears, and other senses.
A vibrant Nigerian actor of Yoruba descent (born in 1974) passed on in the bathroom of his Lagos home last year after he slipped and hit his head on a hard surface. We have to learn from these miss-step experiences and learn to leave legacies behind in the society.
The young dude's father is from an Edoid group in Rivers called the Engeni People. By geography, they are close to the Izon areas of Rivers and Bayelsa States.
His mother is the daughter of the iconic Benson Idonije (He was born on the 13th of June, 1936 in Otua, a town in Owan East LGA of Edo State) from Edo State who worked as a Music Manager with Fela Anikulapo-Kuti on his songs right from the 1970s. Burna's mother (Bose Ogulu formerly Bose Idonije) was born by a Yoruba woman and as he said in the video here, the young man said he speaks Yoruba just like his brilliant mother who is a multilinguist does.
So, it's a multicultural family and Yoruba folks are NOT claiming him solely for themselves. The FACT is that he proudly has Yoruba ancestry through his mother. Paternally he is from Rivers State and maternally he is from Edo State. Period.
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested three men behind the proliferation of fake websites for JAMB registration, falsifying fake JAMB Admission Letters, System Interference and schemes operating phishing websites to defraud unsuspecting JAMB candidates.
Confirming their arrest to newsmen, the spokesperson of the Police force, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the suspects identified as Effa Leonard Mpama, Ibang Ernest Jerome and Eshiet Odotukana Benson, all male of ages 34, 38 and 38 respectively and others at large, belong to a syndicate who intentionally and knowingly conspired and procured amongst themselves services that enabled them to illegally access JAMB restricted Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) and e-facility respectively, and proceeded to alter and delete other candidates' previous admission letters and inputted fake details resulting in inauthentic admission letter which were acted upon as genuine to secure admissions into tertiary institutions and mobilization for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, thus compromising the entire JAMB admission process with its attendant consequences.
Upon arrest the suspects revealed their various degrees of involvement in the conspiracy, corroborating the already available overwhelming evidence. The duo of Effa Leonard Mpama and Ibang Ernest Jerome and others at large collect personal details of the prospective candidates and forward same to Mr. Eshiet Odotukana Benson who gets CAPS links from Daniel and Chris; Messrs. Daniel and Chris still at large are working in the JAMB Computer Based Test (CBT) Centers domiciled in FAN and UNICAL respectively in Calabar, Cross River State. In more developments, digital Forensic analysis led to the recovery of 4 fake domains, websites and 2 principal threat actors of a syndicate in Imọ State behind the creation of the fake domains and other associated websites operated by them. Similarly, the third suspect, Mr Eshiet, who has access to the CAPS links unlike the duo above, proceeds to any CBT centre and opens the jamb e-facility with a login detail of a candidate with previous admission and thereafter superimposes the new details collected to create a fake admission letter.'' Adejobi said.
He stated that the offences are contrary to sections 8, 13 and 27 of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015 as amended
While strongly warning against all sorts of criminal partnerships that promote illegal activities of this nature and others engaging in similar activities, Adejobi mentioned that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, applauded the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center led by CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry as he reaffirms the commitment of the Force to leveraging on emerging technological advancements to protect the citizens of Nigeria both physically and digital space.
This is very despicable. One of them said in the video that the "Devil" is to blame. That's the usual suspect these simpletons hang on to after being caught for engaging in every criminal act.
naptu2: Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu I delivered closing remarks at the 31st Afreximbank Annual Meetings and the 3rd AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum, ACTIF 2024, where I focused on the role of subnational entities in driving the African agenda, using Lagos State as an example.
Lagos State has demonstrated the importance of subnational governments in shaping the African narrative. With a strong focus on internal revenue generation and strategic partnerships, we have become a hub for investment and technological advancements.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) symbolizes a pivotal initiative that requires collaboration between national and subnational levels to succeed. Despite challenges, the AfCFTA aims to create a unified trade channel for African countries.
By leveraging partnerships and embracing African solutions, we could build a prosperous future for the continent. Lagos truly offers an inspiring model of what is possible when Africa thinks big and thinks ahead.
In the near future, our ambition is to, in addition to what we are already accomplishing, become a strong and solid link between Africa and the Caribbean, building on longstanding historical connections and modernizing them into a partnership that is an unstoppable global force.
We already have so much in common, and if we synergize properly, there’s no limit to how far we can go.
And this is where Afreximbank comes in, as inspiration, an enabler, a facilitator, and financier. Already, they have established themselves as an excellent facilitator of bridge-building between Africa and the Caribbean.
Together, we will continue to drive progress and innovation for the benefit of all Africans.
This is very impressive.
Connecting the economies of Africa to the Carribean nations for the benefit of all. I'm glad to see that modern technologies have bridged the Atlantic Ocean space that separated the Carribean folks from their Continental African relatives (which existed as a result of the deportation of folks from key exit points on slave schooners).
Whether reparations are paid by the European and Arab beneficiaries of the infamous slave trade OR not, the key for sustainable development is for African and Caribbean nations (with African descent) to engage in capacity building, share ideas, and become big players in the innovative technologies and international business space to earn self-respect and leapfrog their economies.
ufotunang: ..they normally say government has no business in bussiness but the role of government is to provide a conducive environment for bussinesses companies industries to thrive..so why can't the federal government sell.out those government refineries that are moribund to the private investor to buy it and run it and operate it effectively.....the government refineries have been moribund for more than 20 years did to lack of maintenance and repairs...and the turn around maintenance money for the government refineries has been looted and embezzled by the government officials and politicians.its the private sector investor that can run bussinesses and refineries very well.
fergie001: WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT DAVIDO'S MEME COIN Nigeria’s Afrobeat superstar, David Adeleke (Davido), on Wednesday 29th May 2024, announced the launch of a crypto token or memecoin inspired by himself.
The token known as “Timeless Davido” ($DAVIDO) is the latest addition to the new wave of celebrity-themed memecoins making the news in the crypto industry at the moment.
Davido announced the launch of the $Davido token on his social media handle on Wednesday and the post was acknowledged by the official Solana handle.
This resulted in a frenzy in the Nigerian social media space and a surge in the market capitalization of the token hours after its launch.
Although the rave around the token has cooled off just a day after its launch, here are five important things to note about the $Davido token.
Launched on Solana blockchain The $Davido token was launched on the Solana blockchain and it was created on Wednesday using the popular Platform Pump Fun which allows crypto users to create a token in a matter of minutes.
Crypto research tool, Lookonchain, reported that Davido received 7.5 SOL worth $1,275 as startup capital which he used to create the $Davido token.
The Solana blockchain is known for processing over 65,000 transactions in a second and has low fees. 1 Sol is currently worth N238,769
Profit of $473,000 in 11 hours After creating his $Davido token with his 7.5 SOL initial capital, Davido spent 7 SOL to buy 203 million $Davido tokens which made up about 20.3% of the total supply.
He sold 121.88 million $Davido tokens, making a profit of over $473,000 in just 11 hours. He still has an unrealized profit of $207,000.
$Davido token value has plunged by 93% Despite the excitement and the rave created online by the launch of the $Davido tokens, the party was short-lived as the memecoin lost over 93% of its value by the next day.
The token is currently down by 93% from its highest point on Wednesday. According to data from CoinMarketCap, the coin is currently trading at $0.000010 just a day after its launch. The coin also has a current liquidity of $291,000.
Not Davido’s first crypto project $Davido token launch is not the first time the Afrobeat superstar has got involved in the wild world of cryptocurrencies.
Techcabal reported that the superstar previously launched $echoke on the Binance Smart Chain to provide a host of services, including non-fungible tokens, entertainment, media, and hospitality. The project was short-lived and was long forgotten.
The journey for the newly launched $Davido token remains uncertain for long-term holders of the token given the unsavory news of the coin losing 93% of its value the next day.
What to know The $Davido memecoin is the latest addition to the recent wave of celebrity-themed tokens in the crypto industry. It remains uncertain the long-term trajectory of the $Davido token and whether it would be able to increase its valuation allowing its long-term holders to profit from it.
Memecoins are increasingly becoming a very important part of the crypto industry with an overall market cap of about $66 billion. Nairametrics earlier reported the top five promising memecoins of 2024 who are currently increasing in valuation and pulling a bullish trend in the crypto market.
faceland: I think it was the opposite. I don't remember anyone thinking Mr. Biggs was trash.
It was competitors that push them out (as they set unrealistic standards and were too sure if themselves).
My father applied, they told him he needed 4 million of in those days money (that would be 40 million of today's naira based on dollars exchange). Then they made some crazy demands like; it must be on a major road (they want it on the road, your property or rented building). People with that type of money are not usually patient enough to nurse a new business-location (they want profit today, those capable of running the show, can't afford the prerequisites).
They felt no one could beat them and overnight many Asians came with their own recipes. Nothing special. Just fry suger and rob it on the body of your finished junk-food, the end.
Anyway, 99% of my comic books back then ware sponsored by them and Guinness Mult.
Indeed, competition from other fast food brands led to a dilution of the market share. However the iconic Mr. Biggs brand still exists in form of other outlets especially in Lagos. There are two popular outlets with cozy interiors that I know of along Awolowo Way in Ikoyi, Lagos and Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos located within a fuel station.
Chicken Republic, Tasty Fried Chicken, Tantalizers, KFC all came in with robust plans to take parts of the market share from Mr. Biggs.
Mr. Biggs outlets are still around and haven't ceased to exist especially in Lagos. They only faced more robust competition from other brands such as KFC, Tasty Fried Chicken, and more.
dauntless15: Lol I remember eating my first meat pie in life from Mr Biggs, I didn't like it but my dad forced me to eat it because it was the only snack we could get on the go, now I chase meat pie all over town wherever there's a fresh well made one, I remember their meat pie used to be weighty with a lot of meat in it, not the crap people do these days and stuff potatoes in it and say it's meat pie, too bad all that is no more because of naija economy, they had to compete with chicken republic, KFC and the likes, they didn't survive it, normally you need to innovate and adapt, they refuse to do that, so it just died naturally, another brand heading same way rn is Tito, they'll soon cease to exist like Mr Biggs, I had fond memories of that brand growing up.
Your post is quite insightful but you are making a mistake here. Mr. Biggs outlets have NOT ceased to exist especially in Lagos. There's one popular Mr. Biggs outlet at a fuel station along Oba Akran Avenue in Ikeja.
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia has decided not to renew its 80-year petrodollar deal with the 🇺🇸 United States, which expired on Sunday, June 9, as per media reports.
This agreement, originally signed on June 8, 1974, had been a key part of US global economic influence and power.
The deal set up joint commissions for economic cooperation and Saudi Arabia's military needs. Back then, American officials hoped it would encourage Saudi Arabia to produce more oil and strengthen economic ties with Arab countries.
By choosing not to extend this contract, Saudi Arabia can now sell oil and other goods using different currencies, such as the Chinese RMB, Euros, Yen, and Yuan, instead of only US dollars. There's also talk of exploring digital currencies like Bitcoin for transactions.
This decision marks a significant move away from the petrodollar system established in 1972 when the US stopped linking its currency directly to gold.
It's expected to accelerate the global trend of using currencies other than the US dollar in international trade.
Additionally, Saudi Arabia has joined Project mBridge, a collaborative effort exploring a digital currency platform shared among central banks and commercial banks.
This project aims to facilitate instant cross-border payments and foreign-exchange transactions using distributed ledger technology.
Project mBridge began in 2021 and involves several prominent central banks and institutions worldwide. It recently reached the stage of Minimum Viable Product (MVP), inviting private-sector firms to propose innovations and use cases to further develop the platform.
This move by Saudi Arabia marks the beginning of a major shift in global economic dynamics, though its full implications on international trade and finance remain to be seen.
That's a major tectonic shift in international trade and global economic dynamics.
The gravitation to more baskets of currencies will mean the U.S. has to restrategize economically as well in terms of stabilizing the USD.
