aminulive: The Nigerian Army has issued a statement reacting to a recent accusation of War Crimes levelled against it reportedly by the International Criminal Court, ICC.
Below is a full statement made available to PoliticsNGR signed by the Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Kusheka;
"The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a front page news story of Daily Independent newspaper of today, Tuesday 11th December 2018, with the headline “NIGERIAN ARMY IS GUILTY OF WAR CRIMES -ICC”, written by one Austin Oboh. According to the paper, “The International Criminal Court (ICC) has ruled that Nigerian army is guilty of war crimes against humanity.”
This is not true. The Nigerian Army has not been accused of any wrong doing let alone being arraigned before any court. It is therefore wrong and sheer mischief for any person, group or newspaper to allege that the Nigerian Army has been found guilty of war crimes.
For the avoidance of doubt, yesterday, Monday 10th December 2018, the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) presented the 2018 Report of her activities. Nowhere in the 78 page report titled “Report of Preliminary Examination Activities 2018” dated 5th December 2018, did she state that the Nigerian Army is guilty of any crime let alone war crimes as the newspaper alleged.Although it is true that the OTP is currently investigating allegations of human rights violations made against the Nigerian Army, that investigation is still at its preliminary stages and does not translate to standing trial, let alone being found guilty.
The Nigerian Army is aware that the office of the OTP has requested for additional information from the Federal Ministry of Justice to enable it determine appropriate steps on how to proceed with the matter. It therefore follows logically that a matter that has not been fully investigated cannot be subject of a final pronouncement by the ICC.
Please note that the Nigerian Army has been consistent in cooperating with the Federal Ministry of Justice, National Human Rights Commission and the several human rights investigative bodies established by the Presidency to review its human rights footprints specifically in the areas of operations including but not limited to the North East Zone.
Yesterday, Monday 10th December 2018 in commemoration of the International Human Rights Day, the Chief of Army Staff issued a statement affirming the commitment of the Nigerian Army to the promotion and protection of Human Rights. In which he said that “the Nigerian Army firmly believes that the promotion and protection of human rights are an essential component of our military operations.
We firmly embrace the idea and the message behind the International Human Rights Day and we are committed to doing our part to spread awareness and support for human rights every day”.
We are dismayed by the recklessness of the said newspaper in publishing such a sensationally false story and giving it undue prominence. A simple research on the website of the International Criminal Court would have provided clarity on the issue. We urge journalists and editors to consider the national security implications of this type of publications. Our nation’s security should not be jeopardised by the desire to sell publications or cause mischief.
It is our hope that the Daily Independent newspaper will properly inform itself on the inaccuracy of its story by setting the records straight and apologise to the Nigerian Army."
Arabiandude: One thing I am sure about is that 2019 election will retire lot of northern politicians that used Buhari popularity to win election in 2015.
chinwe1960: The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has warned the South-East they could miss out on a chance to produce the president of the country in 2023.
The people of the zone have failed in their bid to have one of their own as the leader of the country since the return of democratic rule in 1999, and Ngige believes they have a chance to grab the post if they play their cards right in the 2019 general elections.
Speaking with reporters in Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Sunday, Ngige said President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection was the South-East’s shortest route to the presidency.
He said, “This man (Buhari) has only one term (four years) to do and go home, and an Igboman will replace him. But if you leave this shortest route and take a gamble, you are on your own.”
He added, “If Igbo refuse to play their cards right in next year’s general elections, the South-West will take away the chance from them.
“They will produce the next president after Buhari, because the zone has shown demonstrable commitment to Buhari’s cause.
“My good friend Babatunde Fashola has blown the whistle. What he said should be a warning signal to the Igbo, because you can’t stop the South-West from producing the next president of the country after supporting Buhari and the APC government.
“That is why I’m telling our people now to come out en masse in next year’s election and vote for Buhari, so that nothing will stop you from succeeding him in 2023.”
He described the vice-presidential slot given to the Igbo by the Peoples Democratic Party as a “mere spare tyre that might be used for over six years”.
According to the minister, it is not true that Buhari hates the Igbo, stressing that the late Dr Chuba Okadigbo, Edwin Ume-Ezeoke and others were close friends with the President.
The minister said the Buhari government had provided infrastructure in the South-East, saying he deserved their support.
He insists the real Buhari is the one ruling the country, dismissing the rumours about a cloned Buhari at Aso Rock.
Ngige said “we should stop listening to all these gutter talks” that one Jubril from Sudan or Chad is the one ruling the country, as the real Buhari is dead.
He said, “I’m talking to you as medical doctor. If you are well treated by your doctor, you will be rejuvenated; that’s the case with Buhari. That is why is bubbling with life. His doctors treated him well.”
The minister added, “I see him regularly. He’s the Buhari who worked as the minister of petroleum; he the Buhari who was the Head of State of this country. He remembers all these.
“I asked our people to come out and vote massively for him in the 2019 general elections. We should stop listening to all these gutter talks. The man in Aso Rock is Buhari and no other person. I see him regularly. He’s the man that employed us as ministers and the one we meet with during FEC meetings.”
phyllosilicate: The Labour Party has said that the adoption of former vice president and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, by the 37 political parties that formed the Coalition of United Political Parties, would not guarantee his victory in the 2019 election.
The party also said that the adoption of Atiku by the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, was not an indication that the entire Southwest Nigeria was behind the Wazirin Adamawa in his bid to become the president of the country .
While disassociating itself from any merger with the CUPP, LP said that the coalition had the right to adopt Atiku as its presidential, saying it was formed initially to support a candidate to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming elections.
Speaking in an interview in Abeokuta, the LP’s chairman in Ogun State, Comrade Abayomi Arabambi, said that the adoption of Atiku by CUPP was not tantamount to victory in the 2019 as he was not the only candidate vying for the seat of power at the centre.
According to Arabambi, some of the political parties that formed coalition have no offices or candidates to contest the presidential post or other political posts in the 2019 elections, noting that they were mostly seen on posters.
“It just an association of political parties and are free to adopt Atiku as their presidential candidate because we are in democracy. The adoption of Atiku by the CUPP is not tantamount to the fact that he will unseat Buhari in 2019,” he said.
“You know CUPP is the amalgamation of political parties, there are others that can do it. We have a lot of these political parties that are on papers; some of them don’t have an office in Abuja and they don’t have candidates for their parties.”
The LP Chairman also maintained that the adoption of Atiku by Afenifere was an indication that most of the group’s members belong to PDP, insisting that such adoption won’t lead to his victory in the Southwest.
“The adoption of Atiku by the Afenifere does not mean that every citizen and other leaders in Yoruba land support Atiku, because most of the members are PDP.” he stressed.
kirajustice: Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media and Publicity), has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is a "flowing stream of fake news".
He stated this in response to the reports that the account of the PDP vice-presidential candidate was frozen, and that the house of the son of Atiku Abubakar, PDP presidential candidate was raided by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Statement read: "The story about the raid 'ordered by Buhari-led government' on the home of PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s son and the fairy tale on the alleged blockage of the bank accounts of the running mate, [former] Governor Peter Obi and his family are both untrue, and should be dismissed as just another manifestation of the PDP’s growing expertise in fake news.
"Nigerians must be becoming wary by now, of a political party with absolutely nothing to offer in the coming elections and has instead, transformed into a knight in shining armor, slaying the truth. In this so-called transformation, PDP has changed into nothing but to a ceaselessly flowing stream of fake news.
"It is impossible to find in Nigeria today, anyone propagating fake news more than the PDP. Our advice to Nigerians is: Ignore them."
^^^^^ ^^^^^ Unfortunately the PDP spokesman is notorious for peddling falsehood... I mean Ologbondiyan who trained as a journalist and he is abusing that professional. He has told several lies and half-truths in the media and defamed people while deceiving the citizens.
nairalaila: Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State who addressed an assembly to flag-off his senatorial election campaign and inauguration of Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District APC Campaign Council at Ukana, his country home in Essien Udim Local Government Area of the State on Sunday, stated that he brought Emmanuel Udom from Lagos and installed him as Governor of the state.
Akpabio further disclosed that Emmanuel Udom never had a membership card of any political party neither had he contested for any election on his own, before he (Akpabio) picked him up from Lagos and made him Governor.
Daily Post reported that the former Senate Minority Leader who said the All Progressives Congress, APC, would record landslide victory in the general elections in the State, added;
“I was shocked that Emmanuel whom I brought from Lagos and installed as a Governor even though he was not a member of the party on whose platform he stood election and become Governor, could call a world press conference to insult me.
He said, ‘’the electorate in the state would reciprocate the kind gesture of Mr. President Buhari by voting massively for him and all candidates of the APC in the state.’’
Akpabio who took a swipe at Governor Emmanuel over what he described as hypocritical campaign slogan tagged “only God”, said God cannot be mocked, noting that;
“Only God could have made it possible to make someone who was never a party member to become a governor.
“Only God could have made somebody who has never had a party card or know what is called ward to become a governor.
“Only God could have made someone who could not have stood election on his own even as a Councilor and win to be brought from somewhere and made Governor.
”Only God could have made a man who has never helped anyone to become anything to become governor.”
Kwara APC governorship candidate AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has rejected suggestions by the state government that his campaign slogan, “Otoge” (enough is enough) could spark political unrest or suspicions in the state.
In a statement made available to our correspondent in Kwara on Sunday, AbdulRazaq said the campaign slogan was properly vetted and approved by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) which he insisted was the only statutory and non-partisan body that should do so.
“Our OTOGE slogan simply means that our people have had enough and are desirous of change through the ballot box,” adding that the government was only jittery and trying to crackdown on the opposition.
“We are surprised and disappointed at the action of the Kwara State Government and Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KWASAA) over their threat to pull down our billboards and campaign banners or posters that have this slogan.
“If, despite their underwhelming performance in the past 14 years, the Kwara State Government and its patrons do not find their slogan of ‘continuity’ as contemptuous, provocative and utterly insulting to the people of Kwara State, it is quite annoying for them to complain that the opposition is saying #Otoge and calling for a change.
“We totally reject Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed’s hypocritical statement of Friday December 7 in which he claimed that our campaign slogan was capable of pitching people against one another.
“We also reject KWASAA’s claim that complaints have come from the Emir of Ilorin’s palace regarding the slogan. These are cheap lies with which our people are not only familiar but are totally fed up!
“We urge the Kwara State Government and its agencies to face governance, stop their boring propaganda and face the unavoidable prospect of being voted out of office in March 2019, God willing.
“Contrary to the sheer red-herring by the governor, we are in a better position to advise the Kwara State Government and the People’s Democratic Party to please embrace peace, to live and let live.
“We urge independent government agencies of the Federal Government, including APCON, police, the department of state security, to continue to be apolitical and professional in their dealing with politicians.
“Finally, our campaign has been very peaceful, orderly and issues-based. We promise that it will continue to be so. But while using this opportunity to again urge our supporters to eschew every form of violence or disorderly conducts even in the face of unprovoked attempts to cage the opposition, we believe that our people have seen enough of deprivations, mediocre governance and mismanagement of public resources to say it loud and clear that enough is enough. OTOGE!” the statement read.
OdionAkghigbe: Benin River Port: Obaseki Tours Edo Waterways, Assures Investors Of Security, Communal Support
…makes case for second Marine Police post in Edo at Osiomo River
As plans for the commencement of the Benin River Port Project reaches advanced stages after preliminary work by the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has assured investors that the state government will not relent in strengthening security on the waterways and ensuring communal support for projects in riverine areas.
Obaseki disclosed this after a three and half hour tour of riverine communities including Gelegele, Kolokolo, Ajoke, Ajamogha, Koko, Abiala 1, Abiala 11, and Ologbo, in the state, at the weekend.
He said that the tour was in furtherance of the survey of the waterways around the state, which kicked off some weeks back and is aimed at strengthening security to protect lives and properties on the waterways.
Obaseki said that more investors are interested in the project and would want to know how the Benin River Port project will connect the Benin Industrial Park, noting that the two areas are connected by water, even as enough provision is being made for road network.
He said discussions with investors and partners about the Benin River Port has reached a critical stage where critical issues are raised and addressed, noting, “Some of the issues have to do with the actual location of the Port vis-a-vis the extent of road network to connect the Port with other facilities like the Industrial Park.”
He said, “We will not underestimate security on the waterways. Security is of prime importance to us as an administration, as we work to attract investors to the state. We will not relent in working very hard to create a conducive environment for investors to do business.”
Obaseki added, “We have decided to establish a Marine police post in Gelegele. The construction for the post will commence soon as the design is ready. We will also have another Police post at Osiomo River. That is why we are at Ologbo to look for a suitable location for the post.”
According to the governor, the state will leverage the huge economic potentials in water transportation, adding that the waterways offer the state a unique economic opportunity for transporting goods and people from one place to the other.
The spokesman for the Ologbo Ikaye Itsekiri Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Chief Johnson Atseleghe, commended the governor for the visit, noting that it was the first time any governor would visit the area through the waterway.
Lauding the governor for the construction of Ajokin, Ologbo, Ikara Roads linking Abiala, he noted that the people of the community are desirous of development.
Atseleghe pledged that the people are willing to cooperate with the government to ensure security and peace in the community as they anticipate more developmental projects.

CastedDude: The negative effect of fighting cannot be overemphasised. A man was taught a serious lesson after deciding to engage his colleague in a street fight.
It was gathered that the duo have been at loggerheads since and decided to take the battle to the street - with passersby and residents watching to see who would win the fight.
The muscled man who pulled off his shirt - was knocked down less than ten seconds into the fight after receiving a few punches from his colleague.
He fell flat on the ground and had to be rescued/pulled up by the onlookers who poured water on him as he gasped for fresh air.

Yyeske: Truth be told, Onitsha is becoming something else especially with what we've been hearing lately. I don't know if it's because of elections next year or Christmas stunts, the state government and other security agencies should please step up on their game. Daylight robberies are becoming too common place as we speak.
dainformant: While most Nigerians are blaming the government for the problems in the country, a man has decided to expose the theft/scam being carried out by some traders in order to make quick money.
In a trending video posted online (watch below), some women were caught removing about eight Derica cups from each bag of rice after which they will use a new bag to repackage it and make it look 50kg bag of rice.
This is what they do to make extra cash as the bags of rice are later sold to unsuspecting customers who have no idea how they've been scammed.
Nigerians while reacting to the video, urged the government and appropriate authorities to look into the issue carried out by the corrupt traders.

Sanchez01: The Aburi Accord failed because the talks favoured one side than the other. 'We people' don't have anything against Ojukwu for fighting for his people (which clearly, he wasn't), rather for leading his people to a slaughter house after claiming he was battle ready with a horrible grin as he stroked his beard. I believe I have uploaded the video to YouTube already.
He could have surrendered the moment supplies where cut off but no, he insisted because he had stashed food away for his immediate family while asking others to fight on empty stomachs.
'We people' have issues with you guys because the man responsible for your deaths fled with his children to a neighbouring country while millions of your people died. In the end, he returned a better Nigerian and proved that the deaths were for nothing.
'We people' believe you guys are stupiid not to see the clearer picture. It is only a matter of time again.
