nnamdibig:
Former President George H.W. Bush dead at 94 originally appeared on abcnews.go.com
George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president of the United States, has died at age 94.
His death was announced by his family Friday night on Twitter. The president's health had been in decline in recent months.
"George Herbert Walker Bush, World War II naval aviator, Texas oil pioneer, and 41st President of the United States of America, died on November 30, 2018. He was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two siblings," the former president's office said in a statement. "He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara; his second child Pauline "Robin" Bush; and his brothers Prescott and William or "Bucky" Bush."
His son George W. Bush, who served as the country's 43rd president, released a statement of his own from the family.
"Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died," George W. Bush said. "George H. W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens."
Bush was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital with a blood infection on April 22 -- two days after the funeral for his wife of 73 years, former first lady Barbara Bush .
He is survived by his five children, including former President George W. Bush and former Florida Gov.
Jeb Bush .
Bush was with there his wife when she died at the age of 92 on April 17.
"He of course is broken-hearted to lose his beloved Barbara, his wife of 73 years. He held her hand all day and was at her side when [she] left this good earth," a statement from his office said after her death. "But it will not surprise all of you who know and love him, that he also is being stoic and strong, and is being lifted up by his large and supportive family."

I don't know what the fuss is about. Onitsha for example should not be a surprise because the land mass of the main Onitsha city is relatively very very small so i would be shocked if it wasnt already built up by now, compared to much larger cities in Nigeria.

This isn't about landmass, ok? It's not rocket science that the report is a fraud. It didn't even say largest city in Nigeria but Africa. Like seriously?? Even within Nigeria Onitsha can't be third largest, let alone in Africa. Where would that leave Kinshasa (DRC) with 10-million population in the city, Luanda, Nairobi, etc. In Nigeria, Onitsha no fit near PH, Abuja, Kano, and Ibadan. I doubt it is even more populous than Aba, I seriously doubt it.

Foreign Affairs › Re: For China, Islam Is A 'mental Illness' That Needs To Be 'cured' by Konquest: 3:55am On Dec 01, 2018
EbonyWoman:
For China, Islam is a 'mental illness' that needs to be 'cured'
China's relentless campaign to erase the identity of the Uighurs continues, as the world remains silent.

by Khaled A Beydoun

Abdulla* goes to bed every night dreading that knock on the door, a knock he has heard in recurrent nightmares and in stories from neighbours. He expects it can come at any moment.

He is an ethnic Uighur and has always called Xinjiang his home. His forefathers lived and toiled atop this land for centuries, which the nascent communist Chinese government annexed in 1949. He is a father of two, a son and a daughter, and a devout Muslim - cautiously performing his five prayers every day behind the veil of secrecy his home temporarily offers him.

In the past months, several of his friends and colleagues have heard that dreaded knock on their doors and in the quiet of the night, disappeared with no trace or warning. Everybody, including Abdulla, knows where they have been taken and kept. But nobody knows for how long they will be held, nor do they know if they'll ever come back home. Most are yet to return, and those who have returned are shells of their former selves, neighbourhood ghosts, warning others of what looms around the corner for Uighurs refusing to disavow Islam.

In August, a United Nations human rights panel reported that nearly 1.1 million Uighur Muslims were being held in concentration camps in Xinjiang - the autonomous region in western China, home to approximately 11 million Uighurs. Gay McDougall, who sits on the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, claimed that the imprisoned population could be as high as 2 million. Notwithstanding the estimates, the number of Uighur Muslims being arrested, uprooted from their families and lives, and imprisoned in concentration camps - for no other reason than being Uighur and Muslim - is rising with each passing day.

Shortly after the UN broke the news of the concentration camps, Sigal Samuel of The Atlantic reported that inmates were "forced to renounce Islam, criticize their own Islamic beliefs and those of fellow inmates, and recite Communist Party propaganda songs for hours each day." Male inmates were compelled to shave their beards and were force-fed pork and alcohol - which Muslims are forbidden from consuming.

These concentration camps, which hold more than 10 times the number of Japanese citizens and residents the US government locked away during World War II, are where Uighur Muslims are remade into atheist Chinese subjects. These are horrific sites where fear and physical violence, psychological trauma and emotional abuse are all available tools, wielded to push Uighur inmates to renounce Islam, which the state has called a "mental illness", and reject the distinct Uighur customs that are deeply intertwined with their faith.

This programme of brainwashing and indoctrination is not exclusive to adults. The state also operates orphanages for Uighur Muslim children taken from their parents, where the process of disconnecting them from their Islamic faith and ethnic heritage is deeply inculcated into their education. At these orphanages, disguised as schools, China is converting future generations of Uighur Muslim children into loyal subjects who embrace atheism and Han customs, pushing them to turn their backs on their families and towards Beijing's vision of destroying the Uighur Muslim people.

Three months have passed since the UN broke the news of China's network of concentration camps and the ancillary programmes designed to purge Islam and destroy the Uighur people who cling so tightly to it. Yet, global outrage and political pressure are slow to match the velocity and ferocity of China's designs to cleanse itself of a population it deems inimical to and inassimilable with its national identity.

Why? Answers can be traced to prevailing economic and geopolitical pressures, namely, nations fearing the economic hit they would foreseeably take if they challenged or sanctioned China for its ethnic cleansing of the Uighur people. China is an economic superpower, and nations across the world rely on it heavily for imports, trade, and more. The economic factors deterring humanitarian intervention are accompanied by a global so-called "war on terror" landscape that opened the door for Beijing, after 9/11, to violently rev up its persecution of Uighur Muslims behind the veneer of countering terrorism. A campaign spearheaded by the Bush administration and the United States, encouraging other nations - including China - to join in and crack down on their Muslim populations.

Today, in a world where nations as close as Myanmar and as distant as France are weaponising Islamophobia to drive racist, populist visions, China is not only joining in, but violently upping the ante, capitalising on this global moment to use Islamophobia to push forward its own populist vision: Wiping out an indigenous people seeking self-determination and standing against the state-sponsored mandate of Han supremacy.

With Islam serving as the spiritual lifeline connecting the Uighur people to their land, their history and to one another, the state has zeroed in on it. If it can destroy Islam, Beijing believes, it can destroy the Uighurs. And this is precisely what it has been doing behind a curtain of global ignorance for years and, even after the UN lifted that curtain for the whole world to see in August, it has carried forward without pause.

For Abdulla, that feared knock on the door is yet to come. It may never come, or it may come tomorrow, or the day after. Yet, the fear of the unknown and the stark reality that every moment with his children, his wife, and his elderly parents, could be his last, follows his every step like a shadow. Beyond the walls of the concentration camps, Xinjiang has become an open-air prison for Uighur Muslims like Abdulla, whose every word is monitored and religious expression closely policed.

He only finds solace in prayer. Prostrating himself before Allah, beginning in the early morning and one final time after sitting with his children at dinner, he prays that the state does not take him away and destroy his family.

Yet, the paradox of prayer symbolises the imminent perils of being Muslim in Xinjiang today, whereby the more people are unwilling to relinquish their spiritual identity and disavow Islam, the more likely they are to be taken way and kept far from everybody they love and everything they know, locked away in a living hell devised to purge them of their faith, disintegrate their families, and wash away their nation.

davodyguy:
Help me ask these ignorant people. Majority of what happens in Apapa are controlled by Federal government. The taxes are federal collected by FIRS. This add little to IGR. These kids needs to know that Apapa is even a disaster for Lagos. The customs, police and other government agencies at the ports are under federal government. The customs duties you pay to clear your goods goes to FG, not LASG. Atiku's Intel is working with NPA. NPA is an agency of Federal Government. Lagos makes no direct income from ports. It's federal government that makes the money and they share to all 36 states. Apapa port case should not be used
VAT and company income taxes are collected by FIRS and not Lagos State. Oil company pays taxes to FG, while staff pay taxes to LASG.

Lagos makes more money from

P A Y É PIT
Land Use Charge
Hotel and consumption tax.
Title documents registration/ perfection in Alausa
Sale of land in Government Scheme.
Physical Planning approval
Surveyor General
LASBCA
Petrol station taxes
Adverts
Vehicle license
Etc

Idiots should stop talking about income from ports or oil revenue. Without federal allocation, Lagos is doing so well. Ask Tinubu How he did it from 2003 to 2007.

It's the Governors of other states that are killing their citizens

Pastor Canon Iyke Egbuonu Says "Buhari Is Not The Man In Aso Rock, But Jubril From Sudan" - Nigerians React (Video)

A video currently trending on twitter shows Rev Canon Iyke Egbuonu telling his congregation that "the man in Aso Rock is an impostor, not the real Buhari but Jubril from Sudan"

He said:

"... And I'm beginning to believe that that person in Aso Rock is an impostor, not Buhari. I have checked every other record I think it's true, I know you are watching me online, I said that man in Aso Rock, I'm beginning to believe that assertion, he's not our President, because Buhari had cancer that cannot be treated anywhere in the world except miracle happens. If miracle happened, they should tell us how it happened, who prayed for him? Suddenly, a man who was being flown abroad anyhow for treatment came back healthy. And this one now is shorter than the former one, younger than the former one, and is healthier than the former one, and is more wicked than the former one...."

The pastor talked about what Aisha Buhari said about her husband...

"Nnamdi Kanu said if Atiku says he doesn't know that the man in Aso Rock is not Buhari, if he swears with Koran, he will die immediately..."

He claims they did plastic surgery and talked about the 'difference between the main Buhari and the plastic one in Aso Rock'.

He says Rochas Okorocha is the worst enemy of the Igbos.

He said more....

Watch the HERE and say what you think about all he 'exposed'.

Nigerians are already reacting to the the video, and are Blasting the pastor for even believing that 'the man in Aso Rock is not Buhari' and telling that to his congregation.

Politics › Re: Zainab Duke Abiola Calls Jonathan’s Book ‘Monumental Manipulation Of Facts’ by Konquest: 1:30am On Dec 01, 2018
Agritech:
Zainab Duke-Abiola, wife of late Moshood Abiola, says the book written by ex-president Goodluck Jonathan is a “monumental manipulation of historical facts and figures”.

Jonathan on Tuesday launched his book, ‘My Transition Hours’, to mark his 61st birthday.

Ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and John Mahama of Ghana were among those dignitaries who graced the event.

In a statement on Thursday, Duke-Abiola described the book as “a pseudologia fantastica”.

She said the claim by Jonathan that former US President Barack Obama and ex-UK Prime Minister David Cameron interfered with the country’s 2015 is “ludicrous”.

“The book is a monumental manipulation of historical facts and figures,” Duke-Abiola said.

“Though President Jonathan conceded defeat to President Muhammadu Buhari after he lost the elections, he remained fixated on the presidency and did not want to believe that Nigerian voters swept him out of power because of his gross incompetence and ineptitude.

“For the records, Jonathan lost the election because he made himself the sole candidate of the PDP despite his abysmal failure in governance. He directed the party to print only one presidential nomination Form 001, which I paid for, but because of his blind ambition, he confiscated my presidential nomination Form 001 and went into the political battlefield in borrowed robes, thereby meeting his political Waterloo accordingly.”

She said the ex-president plunged the country into an avoidable security and humanitarian crisis.

“I think the only option left for Jonathan is to plead with God and Nigerians for forgiveness and until we forgive him, he should remain in his purgatory of lethargy. No amount of write-up can erase the fact that he took this great nation for granted,” Duke-Abiola said.

“The indeprecabilis question for Jonathan to answer is What did he do with the power Nigerians entrusted him with? Did he ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians or even the marginalized Niger Deltans? Did he even put drinking water in his own village? Are Jonathan’s village mansions accessible by road? Why does he charter helicopters to travel to his own village?

“Jonathan said corruption is not stealing and thereafter flagged off the looting spree of the treasury, which ultimately plunged Nigeria into recession when he left. Jonathan will go down in history as Nigeria’s worst political mistake."

We can say it’s a fact that transportation in general affects the development of cities worldwide. Airport development can be linked to economic development of a nation because air transportation comes with a lot of economic benefits.

Tinubu Square is an open space landmark located in Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria.

It is the epicenter of one of the key transport nodes of Lagos state. It interconnects many parts of Lagos state – Island and mainland.

Originally, it was named “Ita Tinubu” in memory of Madam Efunroye Tinubu, a prominent slave trader and businesswoman.

Later, during the First Republic, it was renamed “Independence Square”, and then later Tinubu Square.

The square was last remodeled in 2017 by the Lagos state government.

Crime › Re: Man Caught Trying To Sell Human Eyeball For N250k In Niger State by Konquest: 7:01pm On Nov 30, 2018
EzegeNG:
Police in Niger State have apprehended a 35-year-old man, Shuaibu Ibrahim, for being in possession of a human eyeball. Ibrahim, who hails from Safiu village in Toto Local Government of Nasarawa State, told the police the eyeball was to be sold for N250,000.

According to police report, the suspect was arrested in the early hours of yesterday by police detectives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, while on routine patrol. It was learnt that the eyeball was removed from a victim during a communal clash between Igbira and Bassa people in Nasarawa State.

It was also learnt that one of Ibrahim’s accomplices, identified simply as Ojo, now at large, gave the eyeball to the suspect to sell in Niger State for N250,000 before he met his waterloo.
Investigation showed that the suspect had been trafficking human parts to other states in the North to make quick money.

Responding to questions, the suspect said that he was the intermediary be-tween Ojo and the buyers of human parts, a business he had been doing for over five years. He said: “My duty is to deliver human parts given to me by Ojo to his clients across the northern states.

We make quick money in this business but I cannot tell what the buyers are using it for. “A lot of people are interested in buying human parts.

But honestly speaking, I don’t know what they use it for; my duty is to deliver as at when due to our clients and collect the money involved.” Asked whether the buyers use the human parts for ritual purposes, Ibrahim said “they must be using it for something; frankly speaking I don’t know. My duty was to carry out the order of my boss (Ojo) to his clients. “I don’t even ask clients what they are using the human eyeballs to do, but I guess it must be for something serious.”

While confirming the incident, the state Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Muhammad Abubakar, said Ibrahim’s arrest followed information from a member of the public, who drew the attention of the detectives to the suspect. Abubakar said the suspect confessed that the eyeball, which was meant to be sold at N250,000, was gotten from Nasarawa State during a communal clash in the area. The PPRO added that the matter would soon be charged to court after investigation.

Missang Oyama just wrote contrary to his earlier post.

MAJOR(DR) ALOBI NSOR IS ALIVE

Contrary to my earlier post on this platform on the demise of my kinsman, Alobi Nsor which was widely reported by PREMIUM TIMES and other media platforms last weekend , the brave Major and brilliant physician was one of the survivors of the Book Haram attack on 19th November, 2018 at Metele, Borno State. I've been reliably informed after making several contacts and spirited efforts to ascertain the veracity of the claim of his death by a section of the media.

Major Nsor actually led the rescue mission after the attack on 18th November as reported by the news media and they were ambushed by the deadly terrorists sect on 19th November where some of our military compatriots were killed but he survived. He is said to be among those undergoing treatment.

After my post which elicited sympathies and emotions, I felt compelled to dig deeper into the matter beyond the news media. I've spoken with family sources, made contacts to the North East and interested parties, I was informed earlier today that Alobi is now conscious enough to talk.

My beloved brother and kinsman is alive and undergoing treatment. To the glory of God, he'll come out healthier and stronger to fulfill destiny. I'm so glad and excited to announce that Major (Dr) Alobi Nsor is alive.

Please disregard my earlier post and discountenance the news making the rounds in the media about his death.

To God be the glory!

Politics › Re: Fashola Gives Reasons South West Will Re-elect Buhari by Konquest: 5:44pm On Nov 30, 2018
Oshigun:
What is tribalistic? Fact is you are now dealing with a generation of Yorubas, starting from Fashola et al, not ready to be diplomatic and two-faced in pursuit of Yoruba interest. The likes of OBJ went overboard trying to please others and form detribalised to the extent he even harmed Yoruba interest, via imposing misrulers like OGD on us everywhere, when he was aware his action would only take us backwards.

It is different now. Fashola has seen it all . He saw the hate ,in the modern era, from sections of the SE and SS even when it was Soyinka, Falana and many prominent leaders who faced bullets to have GEJ installed as acting President while SE and even SS sons of GEJ stayed away.

When GEJ became substantive president the noise from SE Nairaland posters in particular was that he must punish and disenfranchise the Yorubas. Open venom against the Yorubas and Northerners. Someone should help me find the thread if they have a link.

Point is that Fashola's generation and mine behind him now consists of pragmatists who understand the unending hate and lack of goodwill others have for us. We won't play the hate game but we will not continue to try to be the 'bigger man' anymore like Soyinka et al did fruitlessly. Soyinka sided withe Igbo and even defended them over the Biafra war yet they came for him mercilessly because he dared to criticise Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan. Today the hate remains through Kanu, IPOB et al who ask for a Yoruba man to be killed before a snake if in same room.

They thoroughly humiliated Soyinka calling him senile, cultist etc never mind all he had done for them and Nigeria. As a Yoruba, and many new generation Yorubas would have taken the same message, I realised the fate of Soyinka shows that, as Fashola is doing, it is not a crime fighting for your own interest if you are not harming others doing so in a country full of hateful ingrates. For the sensible Yoruba it is now "damned if you do, damned if you don't" so why not secure your own interest first?

Fight for the development of every Nigerian but fight for yourself politically. Doing otherwise may leave you with nothing in the end as many Nigerians still operate with primordial hatred of others to the extent , as Soyinka's case shows, they will never appreciate you even if you give them your eyes.

All that and many other open show of hate against the Yorubas was shaping the mindset of the modern Yorubas now very distant from the OBJ and Soyinka generation . We saw how a people Soyinka personally sacrificed for mocked him mercilessly because of hate for his ethnic stock and because they ethnically sided with Jonathan who had no history of doing nada for them and would indeed go on to do nada for them over his 5 year presidency. We now know that the style of Soyinka will get us nowhere with unrepentant haters.

Rather we will pragmatically and coldly continue to strategize to gain the chance to uplift Nigeria and our region via accepting the reality of Nigeria and what you need to do to secure development personally and nationally.

When others eschew hate to begin acting right then we will think differently but I don't think the Yorubas, for now, will continue being the 'bigger brother' as we see this is getting us nowhere in hateful Nigeria. The strategy has changed. Hate Fashola and call him names but we won't care if his call helps us to Aso rock where the current crop of brilliant Yoruba APC leaders can really make a big difference. The modern Yoruba means no harm to others but we are now working with pragmatic awareness. I am behind Fashola 100%. Go to hell if you dont like that.

Yoruba culture has international
value. The former Ooni Sijuade visited
Cuba with his entourage including the late Chief
Hope Harriman in 2002, and the Cubans in Old Havana were asking the journalists about Wole
Soyinka and Ife. Professor Soyinka is very
popular in Cuba. Fidel Castro gave the Ooni
a rousing welcome on the second ever visit
of Oba Sijuade to Cuba in 2002.

Ile Ife is well-known to Cubans even though
many of them have not been to Nigeria!

hmmm, Nigeria Politics tho...I heard there's absolutely no Presence of Atiku campaign material in the West. @BlaqCoffee109

Hi...

You're right with your summations... The NW, NE, and SW have the
highest voter registration in Nigeria and will give PMB and Osinbajo a
head start. PMB already has his over 12 million votes without even
campaigning.

Dangote Petrochemical Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State will be
ready in 2019 and will produce 600,000 barrels of crude oil per day
thereby leading to pump price dropping to between N50-N60
per litre. This will reduce the cost of transportation and
feeding for those who are still financially challenged.

Many major roads that the PDP abandoned all over Nigeria
for over 8 years are being contructed by the APC-led government
in under 4 years of being in government. Railway tracks are being built
to lead to the Seaport in Apapa and will be ready by DECEMBER
2018.

Some people of SW ancestry that I've interacted with have said
they prefer APC to win the 2019 elections so that APC can finish
all the major road and railway projects in the SW and other
parts of Nigeria - so that they don't get ABANDONED by a
new government as Nigeria is notorious for that!

I see Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as the BEST Vice-President
in Nigerian democratic history from 1979. Very hardworking
and stood in impressively as Acting-President when PMB
went on medical vacation!

The most important thing will be for Nigeria to diversify
from oil and focus MORE on gas - such as the Ogidigben
gas project in the Itsekiri axis of Delta State which Goodluck
Jonathan COWARDLY ABANDONED in early 2015 when
former Gov. Emmanuel Uduaghan and other dignitaries
where hopeful that construction would start in 2015. The
Ijaw militant said he should not come for the Ogidigben
Gas Project construction launching and threatened Goodluck
Jonathan and the so-called commander-in-chief cowardly
chickened out!

There is more income to be made from gas because
it has a lot of uses in the petrochemical industries
worldwide.

Once PMB/Osinbajo finish the next 4 years... then
the SE will definately get the presidency... instead of
the 72-year-old Atiku Abubakar spending 8 years from
2019 till 2027 when he is 80 years old. IMHO!

I hope this helps! smiley

For those who don't know Oba Idowu Abiodun Oniru
is the paramount ruler of Victoria Island and environs.

The original Yoruba name of Victoria Island is Iru [Iruland].
That is why he is called the Oniru of Iruland[Victoria Island
and environs]. Victoria is a foreign name coined from
Queen Victoria of England.
