Until you take an ignorant man through a preliminary knowledge he will continue to bask in the solitude of his foolishness and ignorance, that is the case of the ijaw and their falsified historical gibberish, I will like to quickly answer some of the delusional fact about a one paged history of the ijaw people, first and foremost this people are not recognized anywhere in the world but the little known about them is thuggery, land evaders, kidnapping, bunkering, arm robbery etc. God gave one of their Son the opportunity to rectify their waywardness but he became even the worst and most corrupt president in the history of Nigeria instead of sending this hooligans back to primary school or at best secondary school he was empowering them through ammunitions, well for the purpose of this article let me answer some of your allegations.
First the ijaws have been unable to tell us where exactly their origin is, they are liken to the biblical Cain who was the first known fugitive. They went further to say they are about 15 millions in number, don’t forget that in early 60s it was on record that they were the fifth most populated minorities in the then Old eastern region how then in less than 60 years they are now the most populated tribe in Niger Delta for clarity lets fragmentize so the world can know that this people are born liars
In the last presidential election, Bayelsa their sole state could not produce up to 500, 000 votes, they are less than 5, 000 ijaws in Edo which can be visibly proved during the September 28th gubernatorial election, they are less than 50, 000 in Ondo States while in Delta State the Urhobos are about 1.5million in population as the most populated tribe in Delta it therefore means the Ijaw are less than 1million, then in River State predominately dominated by Ikwerres I put it to you that they are not up to 100, 000 Ijaws living there, with all this analysis the Ijaw population in Nigeria is between 1-1.5million, propaganda cannot get you people anywhere but facts[/b] The article further wrote that Ijaw earliest ancestors dropped from the sky, another fairytale that even the Yorubas have since dissociated from their Story about Oduduwa fallen from the Sky I wonder why a tribe in which over 90% of their entire populace are stark illiterate. Let’s go further please.
They further quote Dr. J U Egharevba of Benins migrating from Sudan to Ile-Ife gibberish talk, but what they never knew was that part of J U Egharevba book on Short History of Benin has been long faulted by Egharevba himself and other Benin historians, the Benins never left Benin it is our Aboriginal land. So you see your argument on us meeting ferryman no longer hold water. Let’s go further.
The writer eventually said the Portuguese possibly had a relationship with the ijaws before the Benin, another lie from pit of hell the Portuguese were at that time the greatest navigators they understood and heard that there was a kingdom richly blessed with pepper, coral beads, palm oil etc. They came solely for business not to interact with slaves of a well-known empire, what could you have offered the Portuguese for those years you had an interaction with them before they met with Benin people? Are there evidence in Portuguese archive that they met with Ijaw first before the Benin¬¬? In the name of trying to give a meaning to your aboriginal myopic identity don’t go changing history. All the dealings the Benins had with the Portuguese are well documented in their archives as well as the Benin having embassy in Portugal and our princes they all have advance education as early as 14th century, which make the Benin people the first educated people in a geographical location now called Nigeria, to further prove our relationship with the Portuguese Oba Esigie was the first Man in Nigeria to speak a foreign language (Portuguese) even our princes were being trained in Portuguese language,
Again Holy Aruosa was built in 15th century as one of the oldest church in Nigeria if not the Oldest. I could go on and on. What are your evidence Izon people that you had relationship with the Portuguese?
The author foolishly wrote that the Oba of Benin is for the Binis not ijaws, it shows how myopic and less read the writer could be, Is the queen of England does she only preside over England or the entire British kingdom that houses three other countries in which her Buckingham palace sits at England? I’m sure coming from a slave tribe like Ijaw where there has never been any Royalty except the sham you guys call gbaramatu Kingdom that was established few years ago by a state government, can it be compared to other kingdoms that were under the province of great Benin Empire. Well Oba of Benin reside in Benin where is kingdom stretched almost the entire present South-South region and beyond, again Ijaws where never added because they are selectively inconsequential people who always did what was ask of them and the Oba saw no reason to vet his authority on people who are naturally obedient. So there was no need to establish a dukedom amongst the Ijaw you can see why you guys lack a royal blood unlike other tribes in Niger-Delta.
Other tribes have moved from violence into education, which is one of the powerful instruments possessed by the modern Igbos who have bridged the education gap which is richly possessed by the yorubas, today in Niger Delta Edo comfortably sits at the top of the educational chain, in the past five years they have consistently maintained the second best position only bested by Anambra in the entire Nigeria in WAEC and NECO examinations, of the 20 best secondary schools in Nigeria in year 2016 they were 6 Edo Schools in which Top 5 we had 2, Anambra 2 and Imo 1. In the past Decade. University of Benin has maintained Top 5 in which in that period they have been the best university in Nigeria on 3 occasions. We arguably have the best polytechnic in Nigeria (Auchi Poly) and one of the best State University, which is remarkably known to produce the best Lawyers in the continent (Ambrose Alli University). I can go on and on, it only shows how we have improved educationally in the past two decades unlike our Niger Delta Ijaw who continue to think that the best way to be known is through all negative means, Bayelsa is the worst State Educationally and their expansionist agenda can never come to fruition now that we have realized who they really are.
You have sounded the war drum I hope when the giants arose you people won’t beg for leniency. There is a Benin parable that says Ama vbe nor ovbokhan ghe wa ko valo valo ikhurion oya mu ne gbe (nobody warns a child not to have a sledged teeth but it gives he or she ugliness). I know you have one or two grievances to table after reading this brief article go ahead fishermen I am here to answer your questions,
Oba Gha To kpere Uyi Edo Ghiwi. To be continued…[/quote]
Mandynews: A friend of mine Dango Emmanuel was telling me just this morning that, he highly suspects that the lady with whom Ebony died is her lesbian partner.
So as a blogger, I should write on it… I refused simply because I have a strong traditional belief that ”we don’t spread lies about dead people”.
We have thence being debating on the issue, Dango made known his honest observations for the past one year and why arrived at that conclusion…but still I was hesitant to write on it. It appears the girl who has been identified as Franky is the man in this relationship.
Moreso, what made me believe was that Ebony despite her ‘immoral nature’ has never opened up on who her boyfriend is…as a ‘spoilt girl’ (as that’s how we see her) of her caliber should sure have one she sleeps around with.
Mind you, Ebony confessed herself that she really really loves s*x.
As if that wasn’t enough, Ebony is always around this Franky lady…and Franky always dress like a man.
And you and I very well know what it means when two ladies are soooo close…with one dressing like a male?
The end of all this whole story is…
Mandynews.com has gathered information by a source who claims to be in the known that, the lady who traveled and died with Ghanaian dancehall artist, Ebony, was her lesbian partner.
According to the source, the girl called Franky Kuri is a known lesbian in town–and her for some months now, she has been in a low key relationship with Ebony.
The source said: “Ebony probably was a bi-s*xual as she was in a relationship in Kuri, a known lesbian.”
Ghanaian dancehall artist-Ebony Reigns died during the early hours of today, Friday, February 9, on her way to Accra–after visiting her mother in the Brong Ahafo Region.
She died together with Franky Kuri, her alleged lesbian partner–and a military man who was with her in a car accident. Franky Kuri completed Holy Child School in Cape Coast in 2008 and several of her mates have told us she’s indeed a lesbian.
She relocated to America but things didn’t go well out there so she returned to Ghana last year.
^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ Look...there is NO proof of your allegations here... and let me say this, there are females who are just tomboys and enjoyed climbing trees as teenagers, playing football, wearing trousers and all that. It doesn't mean they are lesbians!
Please you could get sued if the contents of your blog get to the family members in Ghana. I'm pissed off over this kind of post that has NO proof attached!
Mandynews: There have been many prophets and pastors claiming they saw the death of Ebony coming and many have been also telling different stories of the cause of her death.
And now Evangelist Emmanuel Addai has break silence on the death of Ebony and it’s cause.
According to the Evangelist was into the worlds famous society Illuminati and was really in a serious campaign for the Freemasonry group with her music and her style of dressing.
Using numbers to buttress his argument, Evangelist Addai likened Ebony death to late Suzy Williams who also dead through a similar incident.
Evangelist Emmanuel Addai was clear that Ebony’s death is purely caused by her involvement in illuminism and was being used as an agent of Satan.
He revealed...
“Suzy Williams died on Thursday, Ebony died on Thursday. Both deaths are similar which were caused by illumination.” “They killed Ebony to give way to another lady to take over.” Evangelist Addai further backed his argument with some drawings.
lacemose: A video showing the last moments of dancehall artist Ebony Reign with family members turned up in a car crash a few hours after her death.
The video was shot the same day Ebony died. The 20-year-old is in a good mood when spending time with her family. Her mother had reportedly just come back from the UK and Ebony went to her. Unfortunately, she met her premature death on return.
Ebony died Thursday evening in a heavy traffic accident on Sunyani-Kumasi Road.
According to the police, the 20-year-old singer and two military officers were in an SUV and drove from Sunyani to Kumasi as it collided head-on with a VIP bus heading for Sunyani from Kumasi. Ebony was squeezed to death along with a young woman who was also trapped in the video of Ebony's last moments.
The two officers in the SUV have also died. Ebony and her companion both died in the same clothes they wore in the video of their last moments.
Tessyama1: Popular Dancehall artiste, Ebony Reigns and three people were on board a Jeep, when it collided head-on with a VIP bus going the opposite way.
Photos circulating on social media after the incident revealed a man in military uniform was part of the accident victims.
The man has been confirmed to be a soldier in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), who served as Ebony's bodyguard.
LifeDrama: A video chanced upon by MandyNews.com sees a Prophet (name unknown) talking about the cause of Ebony’s death.
He touched on how Ebony Reigns went for juju for fame and breakthrough in her music career.
But as we all know, the devil gives with the right hand and takes away with the left. The prophet touched on plans of the said juju people to kill Ebony for reasons best known to them.
The prophet also described in detail how Ebony will die—he said she’ll die in a car accident just like Terry Bon Chaka (and it has happened as predicted).
The man of God also commented on how Ebony is headstrong—refusing to take advice.
Explorers: In China, buildings and structures can be knocked down in the blink of an eye no matter how big they are using explosives.
But this bridge is situated amidst dozens of skyscrappers, using explosive can be dangerous because of the vibration.
The major overpass was demolished in 8 hours after a local government dispatched more than 100 excavators to work together on the site, reports said.
Demolition of the Overpass reportedly began at around 10pm and was completed by 5am the next morning.
CCTV reports that the roadway was removed because of its narrowness the upswing in car ownership in China has made it hard for bridges to accommodate enough traffic.
The overpass also needed to be demolished to make way for a new subway system.
vcole: To the best of my knowledge, if you only landed a week ago I do not think you are meant to file taxes. Taxes filed this tax season (Feb 26 - April 30 2018) are for the period of Jan 1 - Dec 31 2017 (the tax year).
Since you were not a PR as at Dec 31 2017 and you were not resident in Canada in the year 2017, you do not have to file taxes.
As for benefits, newly landed immigrants apply for child benefits, provincial benefits and gst/hst with their landing documents as well as a completed statement of income form rc66sh or something like that. Going forward, you would file taxes during the 2019 tax season for the tax year 2018 (jan 1 - dec 31 2018) and this would be a requirement for continuous assessment of your income status by CRA for whatever benefits you are eligible for as well as accessing other government services and so on.
You can find out about what benefits you are eligible for on the canada.ca website. To clarify, you can call or visit free tax clinics....some of which you would find their contact info on the same website.
For clarity, you can actually call CRA directly on their helpline.
So we got to Toronto around 8am Canadian Time on Saturday and we had a flight for 8.50am to Regina. The 1st Lady we met at the desk (Don't know what They are called) asked for the amount we brought in and if we had dairy products. Told her 9.5k USD and dried smoked fish. She also asked if we were still shipping things in at a latter date. She wrote down the amount, gave us back our COPR and told us to proceed to meet the immigration guys.We met a small queue there probably because it was a Saturday.
My friend was the 1st family to see the immigration guy who was a white guy....he was very nice to them.Asked them how much they brought to which they answered (7.5k USD ).The guy said he didn't need to see it and was very friendly with them. Had plenty gist with them as we watched on.
Then came my turn, the voice said 'Next'...was the only black man there.Wasn't friendly at all,was asking different stories (who's the Principal Applicant, how much funds ,where are we staying etc)...well,no big deal since he was doing his job.Next thing,he asked again, how much are you bringing to Canada in Cash which I responded by saying 9.5k USD. Then he said,I gonna have to see the cash and count!I just told my wife to bring what was with her (since we already split the money into 2 cos of Naija airport). The moment he saw that I brought the money out,he changed the story to 'I hope you realise the money is not enough for your stay to which I responded that we have money in our account and that a have the statement to show for it.
He then said,Ok calculate all you have in the account and cash and tell me,to which I answered 19k CAD. Then he said go and sit down and wait for me.I was like....I hope say this guy no dy plan to send me back to Naija for another 24-26hrs flight! Luckily, he called is after 15mins when my friend was already long done!Told us to sign our COPR,gave us our copies back and said welcome to Canada.Even people that didn't know us came and we're asking questions that all the whites that attended to them were so friendly.Only asked for the amount they brought in and told them specifically that they didn't need to see it.
By the time we were done with them,we had already missed our flight to Regina. They put us on the next flight which was for 4.40pm(Toronto time ) so we had to wait at the airport for about 6hours or so.
Got to Regina around 8.30pm....my friend came, picked us up and also organised 2 extra cabs for us.We already ordered 2 car seats before coming so that my friend will be able to carry the kids. The weather was minus 29 whem we landed so we had to quickly change to our shubushakers(huge winter boots) right from the airport make man nor go die!lol. We proceeded to his house and moved to the houses we already paid for before landing after 2days.
On Monday,we opened our Bank accounts, got our SINs,bought phones we're now settling in small small o.Also visited Regina Open Door society yesterday and they were so helpful. We plan to visit Catholic society and YMCA too on Monday as they were recommended by the Regina Open Door Society guys.
I hope say my story no too long...lol....Just say make I share my story.
A wonderful thank you to everyone on this thread for all the info!God bless you all! This is a dream come true for me!Thanks once again.
soja84: Dear All,we finally travelled on Friday(2nd of Feb) and landed on the 3rd(Saturday ) via Ethiopian Airlines.
I travelled with my family (Wife and Child ) and my friend with his wife and Child too. That makes us 2 families(2guys,2,wives and 2 boys!).The 2 boys will be 2years by May.
Flight was for 13.40pm(Nigerian Time),so we got there around 9.30.Started with excess luggages as 3 out of our 5 bags were above 23kg. They were actually between 24 and 25kg.We had to remove some stuffs to make the weight limit .My friend's 5 bags were all overweight so they had to buy one GMG bag and return one box which made the load reduce. Overall, the guys at the counter were nice and assisted us in sorting ourselves out.We didn't have any foodstuff seized, infact we were not asked at Lagos Airport. Please go there with 500naira notes for 'Happy New Year' and I'm sure you'll be fine.
In-flight entertainment was ok.Food wasn't bad too but most of us couldn't eat it. However, that wasn't due to bad quality. In all,the Hostesses were very nice as our boys were so handful and were practically screaming and disturbing everyone due to plenty energy!Once one is asleep and quiet, the other would start his own drama. But the hostesses were nice and understanding.Apart from the food that we couldnt really eat,we had a good time with every other thing. The plenty extras, snacks, wine, beer etc especially if you're a fan sha, lol.Intact,we got tired of it!
We got to Addis Ababa around 7pm (Nigerian Time,9pm Addis Ababa) time. They didn't ask for our foodstuffs or anything, just normal checking in of hand luggages.Spent 2hours there and had to deal with another round of stress from the boys!
Boarded the plane to Toronto by 9pm,Nigerian Time (11 Addis Ababa time) and then the long journey began! We got to Dublin after about 8hours to refuel while some passengers disembarked. That was the 1st time,I started feeling the cold, just opening of the aircraft! We waited for one hour there. After the 1hour wait which felt like 3hours,we started another 7.25hrs journey to Toronto.
I need to sign off from this thread to digest your brilliant summations in your last post... and to avoid derailment from the off topic post of the 3rd entity here.
Thanks a lot for your GREAT summations on Egbeta, Usen and other communities in Edo States.
scholes0: The Ebiras used to be ruled by a figure called the Atta of Ebira before, they not too long ago changed it to Ohinoyi. Political enmity between them and the Igala have increased their differences.
Funnily enough the languages both groups speak have nothing to do with Jukun. Ebira has about 30% cognate similarity with Nupe, Gade and Gbagyi , While Igala has about 65% cognition with Yoruba-Itsekiri.
As for the Akoko-Edos
Here is your confirmation as to my earlier point which I made years ago in the other thread.
scholes0: Ikakumo, Ayanran, Aiyeteju, and Ago-Ogbodo
In most of the others You will find some people saying Ife, You will find some saying Benin, while yet still you will find some saying they came from Ife, but via Benin after they had settled there for a while hence the language disconnection.
Me right now, I am more personally interested in the truly Yoruba communities in Ovia North East and Ovia South West.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ Are there Yoruboid communities in those Ovia LGAs?
I have a friend from the Egharevba family in Ovia North East. We went to the university together... the same department.
scholes0: Beadbury (1967) who did extensive research on the people of the area on the other hand, reported three sources of ancestry for the people there, Benin, Ife and Idah.
It should be noted that the Ebira groups are the ones who used to claim to have come from Idah. These days, they still mention Idah but only as a stopover location from their true origins among the Kororofa.
^^^^^^^^ Thanks for this information @Schole0.
I read that the Ebiras and Igalas are of the same stock... coming originally from the Jukun region or Kwararafa like you stated.
scholes0: Itsekiri Modern history (Post 1480) starts from Ginuwa.
tsekiri primordial history starts from Yorubaland.
^^^^^ ^^^^^ Absolutely @Scholes0.
I've corrected my post...1480s is Ginuwa's arrival in Itsekiriland.
On the other hand, I saw a post of yours on the Akoko-Edo thread and Ibillo thread for the first time 2 days ago.
I would like to know from you which one of the Akoka Edo towns have Yoruboid indigenes in them. Is Lampese one of the Yoruboid communities?
I know that most Akoko Edo represent Edoid ancestry.
A friend of mine in the University in Nigeria told me he wasn't Yoruba but Edo decades back... even though his name was Femi Ajakaiye. He was from Akoko Edo. It was interesting getting to learn his family history. He even spoke very fluent Yoruba.
Rex123: Itsekiris is classified under Edodroid languages
^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^ @Rex123
I like your use of "Edodroid." [Edo Android]. Macof could not help being amused too...
Okay... Itsekiris are Yoruboid and Edoid in terms of ancestry and culture.
Before the arrival of Prince Ginuwa [his mother was from Ife] with 70 of his royal supporters from Benin after he had to go on exile because of a cultural violation, there were already Itsekiris of Yoruba ancestry of Ijebu, Ilaje and Ife origins in the Itsekiri region of Delta State.
Prince Ginuwa [whose father was Oba Olua of Benin] arrived in Ode-Itsekiri in the 1480s and met Chief Lenuwa and his people of Ijebu origin who accepted and his entourage on learning he was of Royal origin from Benin. Prince Ginuwa eventually became the FIRST Olu of the Itsekiris. I must add that the Itsekiri language is similar to Yoruba dialects of the Eastern Yoruba regions [Ijebu, Ilaje], with Edo words and Portuguese loan words as well!
Omadino is another Itsekiri community that was founded by Ijebus just like Ode-Itsekiri.
The oil-rich Ugborodo [otherwise called Escravos] was founded over 500 years ago by Ilaje people who migrated eastward from Ugboland in Ondo State...which shares boundaries with Itsekiriland in Delta State.
The popular "George fabric" was first used by the Itsekiris several centuries back because of their early contact with the Portuguese and other European explorers even before the Binis.
All the nations, peoples and tribes in the world have a tradition of giving people names. In all traditions all around the globe, people’s personal names have a meaning. It’s not just a combination of letters that sounds pleasant. Ancient people believed that it’s something that could protect a person from evil spirits, give him or her a good destiny and success in life, or describe his or her personality in the best way. https://madailygist.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/vllkyt2idaj8lmn8n.06ea1824.jpg
The most ancient names are often the most beautiful. In the modern world and due to the clash of cultures, many names migrate between languages, countries, and cultures, people begin to forget the way their ancestors named their children. Are Igbo names and meaning special in any way? https://madailygist.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/vllkyt64mmnvgt8bb.d6ffb355.jpg
For Igbo people, a name is a way to express somebody’s unique personality. The majority of Igbo names are composed with the help of grammatical rules of the Igbo language. Each part of these names has a symbolic meaning. A name can reflect the circumstances of a child’s birth. Some people say that in ancient times, baby girls, future women, were named after market trading days. What about the last name?
Unique Delta Igbo names and meaning
Now, let’s check out some traditional Delta Igbo baby names and their meaning. Igbo baby names

How to choose a good name for your baby?
Here are several recommendations on choosing a good name for your child. To find a lovely name in specialized lists is one thing but wear it in everyday life is completely different. As parents, you should remember that if you like a certain name, it’s not a fact that your child will like it, too. https://madailygist.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/vllkytprga4c1pd8g.e81c194c.jpg
If you have twins, it may seem very cute to give them names that sound in some way similar.
Odingo1: The Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has said in a new video that he is tired of the calamity befalling his group.
“I am tired of this calamity; it is better I die and go to rest in paradise”, he said at the end of the 10-minute video.
In the video, delivered chiefly in Hausa, Mr. Shekau couldn’t hide his frustration on the continued hostility and loss of his supporters to government troops.
With a broken voice that clearly betrayed his emotion, Mr. Shekau pleaded with his non-combatant members across Nigeria to pick up arms and help him fight till he drops dead.
The terror group’s leader, however, remained defiant.
Flanked by two hooded armed men, Mr. Shekau said the latest claim by the military that the group had been sent packing from Sambisa forest was false.
He boasted that he is still in Sambisa forest and still controls the territory.
He said that his men would continue to fight regardless of the recent induction of Cameroonian soldiers into the Operation Lafiya Dole counter insurgency force.
Below is the full text of the translated speech by the Boko Haram leader.
“I have no lengthy message to deliver except on the issue of worshiping God alone and serving Him without getting tired. Ours in not like that of the unbelievers whose worship is like the spider web. Just like one of the leaders of unbelievers, who is like an ape, was recently boasting that they have formed a joint force with Cameroonian forces to fight us.
“That they would not only chase us from Sambisa forest but also in all parts of Nigeria. So we too have declared that we do not want to see any Nigerian in Cameroon, in Chad, in Nigeria and even Benin Republic. So I call on our brethren in Abuja, in Lagos, in Benin, in Kaduna, where ever you find any Nigerian make sure you shoot him dead if he is deliberately against us; but if he is ignorant of our ways, teach him on how to understand our ways. This is our first message.
“It is not about approaching you, because that has already been done by our God.
“Our second message is to attack anyone who pledge to Nigerian his country, to be faithful, loyal and honest, and serve Nigeria. Anyone who believes in protecting the interest of Nigeria is our target. The one whose creed is to develop western education where infidels are trained is our enemy. Whoever that stands on any creed other than that of our Prophet Muhammad brought to us; the one that his great disciples followed, should know that he is our avowed enemy and if he confronts us we will fight him.
“In this job that we embarked upon, we are not going to boast too much about, but we pray that God should take our lives while on this struggle and not on any other thing else. May God help us on this belief.
“So you Nigerians especially the youth vigilante, we are going to fight you and that thing that drives you to pick up arms against us; we don’t care what they call you, be it Civilian-JTF or any kind of force. Just as you said you don’t want us on the face of Nigeria, so shall we too declare you persona non grata in Sambisa. Let anyone who has brains to think to avoid moving around Sambisa forest. Those of you the leaders of the troops will no longer have peace just like the way you think you have made here uncomfortable for us.
“And you General Rogers that is currently leading the troops and boasting that that you have take-over Sambisa and have rescued some women, why have you not rescued the police women that we abducted? You liar, why couldn’t you rescue them? You are busy deceiving with images of vehicles that we seized from you and abandoned for over three years and claiming that you have killed us. If you have killed us, why are we still alive?
“Oh you brethren of our holy creed, wherever you are, should rise up and fight for Allah. If you cannot do it there, then come over to our side and fight for the cause of Allah. You must know that whoever that fails to follow the teaching of the Holy Quran and Hadith cannot enter paradise. (In broken voice) Because the pattern of life in the world today is not Islamic. Wherever you are, even if you are in Saudi Arabia, and you have your gun, please stand up and fight, kill whoever you see that is not on our side.
Kidnap and bring them to us. Our course is to establish our caliphate and die doing that.
We may not be alive to see the caliphate but even if it comes to be after we have died, it is still a bonus on our side.
“This is the message I have for you all. My name is Abubakar Shekau, the one that is an invincible enemy that you are fighting.
“That is our stand. I am tired of this calamity; it is better I die and go to rest in paradise.” Source: Premium Times
Efewestern: Most urhobos traces their origin to Benin, but there are certain kingdom in urhobo land who traces their origin directly to ile-ife, present day osun state.
The okpe people for example believes they migrated from ile-ife, passed through Benin, before reaching their present destination, some other few towns in urhobo also traces their origin to ife. some Urhobos adopts some Yoruba name due to proximity with some yoruboid group like the itsekiris example, mofe Richard damijo , also those days people tend to name their kids according to situation surrounding the child's birth, for example an urhobo child who was born In agege, Lagos, the Urhobo parents might just decide to name their child Omo-agege meaning Child from agege. And if you check urhobo migration pattern they tend to settle in south western state, so reason you see them adopting Yoruba names.
As for the DNA part, you are actually correct, Urhobo migrated from various Edo kingdom before arriving at their present destination, as for the itsekiris, it's not news that they migrated from Yoruba, they only adopted a bini prince.
^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ @Efewestern
WOW! ... Thanks for this brilliant post. That is why I have been following you on NL because I know that you are deep with firsthand history of Urhoboland.
You shed more light on some historical FACTS that I never knew today on Urhobo history... such as the Okpe people.
Somehow, I noticed that Urhobos and Yorubas tend to even marry a lot... even Urhobos and Itsekiris have a lot of intermarriages.
I have Urhobo friends that have Itsekiri mothers and Itsekiris that I know like Prof. Itse Sagay and the Vanguard Newspaper Publisher, Chief Sam Amuka-Pemu have Urhobo mothers!
RMD's father is actually an Urhobo man while his mother is Itsekiri. That is where Eyimofe the Itsekiri name comes from!
A lot of what you wrote are NOT even known to people in the public domain. And should be taught in all institutions and special online educational channels so that Nigerians will know that we have ALWAYS interacted even before the British colonialism era began.
AreaFada2: Thank you. I learnt under eminent scientists that an intelligent person asks the right questions. Not necessarily the one who gives the right answers.
Why didn't Oduduwa return if he was a prince in Binin?: Chief Oliha (he crowns the Oba since then) and the other senior chiefs that went to Ife/Uhe tried to persuade Ekaladerhan/Ododuwa to return but he refused. Now, Ehkaladerhan was supposed to have been murdered/sacrificed in the forest due to the evil machinations of his step-mother/Queen. But the executioners could not bear to murder a crown prince. They let him live but made him swear never to return to Benin. He escaped death by the skin of his teeth. He had also become ruler in Ife. So considering his newfound fortune of Kingship & bad memory of only just escaping death, it is not farfetched that refused to return. A man (Ekaladerhan) possibly in his 60s or older, who has found fortune, respect and dignity among his subjects in Ife has little incentive to leave all that. The complex system of kingship in Benin & palace intrigues that he already witnessed and only just survived were enough to put him off. Even the young agile Oranmiyan could not cope with the elaborate, fierce & convoluted system in Ogodomigodo and he left saying this Kingdom is "Ile-Ubinu". Oba Erediauwa departed many months ago now but ceremonies are still going on & the crown prince is not crowned yet. That is how elaborate, complex & detailed the system is and has been for centuries.
Why was the King's body part of the Oba of Bini(mostly the head) buried in IFE in ancient times?: We hear a lot about this, but no conclusive evidence that that was the case. I have many relatives as palace chiefs in Benin who should know. But none has confirmed it. Royal tradition is sacredly maintained and never distorted. Even if that was the case that body or body part was taken to Ife, it could be because Oranmiyan the father of Oba Eweka I was probably buried in Ife too. But no credible source has confirmed this.
Why do Bini believe they came out from UHE(IFE)?: Wrong. Benin people do not & never claim to come from Ife/Uhe. A Benin saying is that "Uhe o bie Oba", meaning "Ife gave birth to the Oba". This indicates the birth of the first Oba (oranmiyan) after the end of Ogiso/Oba-Godo era, in Ife. Even though he did not stay long in Benin, he was still the first post-Ogiso Oba. Yoruba people make this mistake a lot. That Oranmiyan came from Ife does not make all Benin people come from Ife. The House of Bernadotte is the Royal Family of Sweden. Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte was a French general under Napoleon Bonaparte (Emperor of the French) before he became King of Sweden/Norway. But Swedes are not French. The British Royal family is German, but the British do not count as Germans. The former Royal family of Greece was Danish/German but Greeks are not Danes. Ptolemy, a general under Alexander The Great became Pharaoh of Egypt & was ancestor of Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, but Egyptians were not and are not Greeks. Examples abound throughout history.
As to where Benin people migrated from, like most Nigerian tribes, it is not scientifically proven where they originally came from. That probably happened thousands of years back, possibly 5000 years or more. Too long for any credible oral history to survive. In 9ja, some tribes claim to have used ladder to climb down from heaven, etc. None is scientific. The most likely version for Benin is that of coming from Egypt/Nubia/Sudan. Tell me of any Nigerian tribe with DNA/archeological/Scientific evidence of where they originally came from 5000 or more years ago.
Now, the other Question is not relevant since Benin people never migrated to Ife in the first place.
I am amazed with the fabricated story by some of you from Bini had began to tell the world from this year's February 2016 before the demise of the Omo n' Oba. You have not been following similar topics on NL. I have posts dating back to years here on this matter. Though some lost during Cyber attack on NL. Nothing new. Just that people, especially from the SW, have a set mind on the issue & hardly read versions not theirs. Benin people typically mind their business unless others want to use numerical or political advantage in the current Nigerian contraption to twist history. Benin people then respond to set the record straight. The Alake of Abeokuta sometime last year or so claimed that Benin monarchy was third in the hierarchy in Yorubaland. Benin had to correct that provocative statement by letting Alake remember that Benin's Ogiso dynasty gave birth to Ekaladerhan/Ododuwa & therefore cannot be lower than any Yoruba King. Moreover, Benin has never been part of Yorubaland.
Sometimes, I believe people are not interested in seeking the truth. All seem to have a position that whether rational or not, they want to stick to it.
My suggestion is simple. Why not do DNA studies among Benin, Ife Royal families and relatives in the female line of pre-oranmiyan Ogisos? Science can trace back which is the parent genetic line.
That should settle it finally.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ OK...
Something just caught my eyes...
The Birth of the First Oba [Oranmiyan].
1.] "Uhe o bie Oba" Ife gave birth to the Oba in Bini-Edo language. [Edonised Yoruba].
2.] "Ife o bi Oba" Ife gave birth to the Oba in Yoruba language.
"Uhe o bie Oba" and "Ife o bi Oba" are VERY SIMILAR. "O bie" and "O bi" both mean "Gave Birth."
... This is very interesting.
The Yoruba and Bini have different origins, but there are profound linguistic and cultural similarities as well. I love both cultures.
Thanks to all who have contributed positively to this thread for the benefit of all!
Olu317: you people of Edo have erred on so ma ny utterances as it concerns Ododuwa. with your argument, you said, the Ododuwa probably told the Ancient IFE people that he was Edo/ogiso dynasty and that the Yoruba people out of pride hid it. If I may ask the children of the Edo kingdom, how many them as males/females will traveled to far distance land and after acquiring great wealth, affluence and power in that country will not want to come back and to conquer his detractors/enemies in his or her ancestral home? why would he (Odu'a) deny his ancestral home to his children? should the Yoruba raise up against them in the future How come he didn't tell the people to bury him after his death at his real ancestral home in Edo?How come the ancestral home of Yoruba doesn't have any strong influence of Ododuwa's Edo Language in their dialect on which all other Yoruba dialects developed from? instead the reverse was the case in Bini with Yoruba language having great influence in it. in fact many of the Binis are Of IFE(yoruba migrants) to Edo. Non of these was eminent in Yoruba history about Odu'a 's spoken language . In fact no Yoruba grouping even has ever lay any tangible claim to Edo as his or her historical ancestral home except via marriages and those that fused with Yoruba, history still have record of them pooh haa. Having said these, history has made us to know that Ododuwa was not imposed by anyone but chosen by IFA Oracle and not that he was a conqueror of a people, that meant that the man was part and parcel of the people..I am even more disappointed with you when you said Edo's history is shrouded in mystery because it is perceived as dating back to 5000 years. On Yoruba account, with great humility do I boast through God, why do you think it was easy to write the Yoruba Bible by one anointed by God, Samuel Ajayi crowded in 1844, do you think yorubas were ordinary people? Are the Yorubas the only the groups sold as slaves?“Capital No as answer ",but then because they know who they are, they never relent until they Excel. Do you think it was ordinary when Samuel Johnson wrote about the history of Yoruba in 1888/1895 when the publisher in the UK,having read throw it,was devastated threw it away or burn it and said it got lost? It was because we Yoruba have history to back us up and you all hate the truth. Do you think it was easy to be the first to set up television station in Africa to be borne in Yorubaland in 1953?,History can not be distorted, no matter how, the truth will always prevail. learn more about Yoruba history, perhaps you will be enlightened more from the following book written in the past and more studying of Yoruba traditions by even WHITES THEMSELVES BECAUSE OF CURIOSITY ABOUT YORUBA nation. READ,:THE YORUBA SPEAKING PEOPLE BY ELLIS ALFRED BURTON 1894,REVISED VERSION OF HISTORY OF YORUBA BY SAMUEL JOHNSON 1921,ORIGIN OF YORUBA as THE LOST TRIBE OF ISREAL by Kierk Lange, The Black jews of Africa etc, I will advise you people of ogiso grouping need to do more emphasis on knowing where you come from before you can even be laying claim to another ra ce.. So help you God and God bless Yoruba Race
Drchristian: well said. but you do agree to d fact dat my write ups are totally true? cuz I cannot lie against my people.
Yoruba doesn't have to feed me with lies to knw.I've done my own research. Some bini people sud stop constructing lies too.
"Uselu" was where prince Oranmiyan founded d first palace. he later ruled as a king for sometime bf he left his Son "Owomika"(Eweka) on his throne.
Do u knw dat Uselu is used in several towns in yorubalands closed to oba's palace.? Uselu is a yoruba word that means "Making of a town" or "d rulling of a town" it simply signifies a Yoruba man has ruled d Benin Palace in d past.
Oba's use is another yoruba word in Benin while "Ogiso" is d translation in benin.
Do u knw Oba Akenzua ii was born and raised in yoruba land.....he speaks only Yoruba language and he was d first Oba to banned Yoruba as d official language in bini's palace in 1934.
^^^^^^ ^^^^^^ Interesting perspectives... DNA tests can resolve some of these geneogical issues.
Datazone: You see why we all keep saying you and your kinsmen are still in the dark? The first graduate in Nigeria was an Itsekiri king - Olu Antonio Dom Domingos. Before Ginuwa came to meet Itsekiris in present day Delta, communities like Omadino and Ugborodo have been in existence. Everyone in Nigeria, even the Portuguese and British, knows that Itsekiri is from Niger Delta. Is it not a shame that the tribe (Ijaw) you claimed is from Niger Delta do not have any Kingdom (except the scam called gbaramatu that was made ten years ago)? I challenge you to name any prominent Ijaw man in the Old Warri Province. Just name one. I can list pages of Itsekiris. If you claim your tribe owns Warri. Just name one.
The historical facts in your post are accurate and can be confirmed from archival materials.
The Ijaws should desist from stealing other people's territories. If they don't, I see a very fierce joint military action by several ethnic groups in the South of Nigeria... [from Ondo, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross Rivers States], against them within the NEXT 30 years because the Ijaws have offended many ethnic groups and are behaving like the notorious Bororo Fulani rampaging herdsmen!
One bogus Ijaw Website even included Lagos State as one of the States where you have the Ijaws as indigenes in the South, which is a blatant lie! To cap it up, I saw and heard a certain IYC Ijaw guy with the surname of Orubebe on AIT two years ago on Gbenga Aruleba's program which shows at 10AM daily that Lagos is one of the states where Ijaws are indigenous. These Ijaw guys just like concocting pure black lies from their warped minds!
The Ijaws I believe came from a part of Ghana because they practice a matriachal culture... and a not patriachal culture like most parts of Nigeria.
Gerrard59: 4. SOUTH AFRICA: Nick-named the “Rainbow nation” due to its multicultural character. More highly ranked universities in Africa are located in South Africa than any other country. There are 23 public universities: Divided across traditional, technological and comprehensive; offering theoretically, vocational and both courses respectively. With University of Cape Town being the highly ranked university, behind it are University of Witwatersand and Stellenbosch University. Other SA universities in the top 700 globally include: University of Pretoria, The University of Johannesburg, The University of Kwazulu-natal and Rhodes University. Tuition fees range from N880, 000 to N2.7 million for undergraduate programs and N1.3 – N1.5 million for graduate studies. This depends on the school, course and nationality with students under the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) paying same fees as South Africans. International students are also expected to pay residence fees, which varies across schools (students from SADC countries are exempted from this).
5. JAPAN: Land of the rising sun, 3rd biggest economy (by nominal GDP) and most developed country in the Asia-Pacific region. The government initiated the program – The Global 30 Project in 2014 – aimed at promoting internationalisation of academic environment of Japanese universities and acceptance of excellent international students to study in Japan. Furthermore, she has set a target of having 300,000 international students in the country by 2020 (it achieved the 100,000 mark in 2003). As a result, universities are focusing on making life easier for foreign students, from the application process all the way through to finding a job after graduation to an increasing number of schools offering their courses in English. Universities are divided across Private, Public and National Universities. Generally, the best schools are National universities. Japan has the highest number of highly ranked universities in Asia (43, QS World University Rankings® 2018) which includes: The University of Tokyo, Osaka University, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, The Tokyo Institute of Technology, Kobe University, Tohoku University etc. Tuition fees are different from admission fees, with the former pegged at N1, 940, 000 to N2, 665, 742 (only for Law School) and the latter at N931, 953 (paid only during the first year) annually. Students are also expected to pay an annual examination fee ranging from N56, 000 to N99, 000 depending on the course, with Law being the highest. Students pay the same fees for both undergraduate and graduate programs irrespective of one’s nationality.
6. INDIA: An ICT, pharmaceutical and manufacturing hub. A leader in the fields of sciences, mathematics and medicine. One of the fastest growing economies and the 2nd most populated nation globally. Education in India has received massive investments in recent years which has resulted in her universities climbing the ranks globally and are generally affordable. The following universities are ranked in the top 1000 globally according to the QS World University Rankings® 2018 and The Times Education Rankings® 2018: Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, University of Delhi, Jadvapur University, University of Calcutta, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur etc. Indian universities offer courses in Standard English Language and Hindi. Fee structure in most IIT (comprising of tuition and other fees, e.g. Library and Caution fee) range from N1, 500, 000 to N2, 200, 000 annually for both undergraduate and post-graduate programs. Fees depend on the school and discipline, with medical courses at the zenith. NB: Unlike other nations above, international students are not allowed to work while studying in India.
JarusHub's Take
With the increasing demand of quality education by Nigerian students and parents alike, we desire that Nigerian students study at some of the best institutions globally. Knowing fully well that high tuition fees and living costs deter majority achieving this dream. We believe that same dream can be achieved, but at places where it is generally affordable when juxtaposed to popular countries. So the questions we pose are: Why aspire to study Medicine at Anglia Ruskin University (not in the top 300 universities globally) and pay N7 million naira annually when same education can be obtained from the University of Tokyo (28th best globally) for N3 million naira?
Why gun for a post-graduate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Coventry University (not in the top 600 globally) for N6 million naira annually, when same can be gotten from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (ranked 46 globally) for N2 million naira? Why aspire to study Accounting at Fisk University (not in the top 1000) for N7 million naira annually, when same can studied at Seoul National University (35th best globally) for circa N2 million naira? If you are aiming at studying abroad, we believe you should study at some of the world’s best institutions, at affordable rates. Yes, Stanford University is expensive for you, but why not try Tel-Aviv University instead of Nottingham Trent University? Yes, distance, less proportion of blacks and language barriers might deter you. But remember, we are in a global village and digital century where being bi/tri-lingual can be advantageous. What about pursuing opportunities after studies? Minimal immigration hassles!
