Small, small you will start walking around Lagos calling Fashola, Fashola, Fashola - you will soon become son-of-the-government. oily+Yoruba: This may be my last quest in trying to locate what Fashola has done with all the funds he received since becoming governor of Lagos state. Firstly; let's crunch the numbers. Below is an approximate money Fashola received over the past 6yrs as Governor:
(1 x 6)yrs x 12 = 72 mths
72 x 37b/mth= 2664 billion naira or approximately 2.7 trillion naira!
Fashola has over the last 6yrs received a whopping 2.7 trillion naira! Pray tell, what has this man done with all these funds. For those who don't know about Lagos state, expecially our nairalanders of international extraction, the state of Lagos was once the capital city of Nigeria; thus all that you see/hear in Lagos was done/built by the federal government of nigeria....NONE WAS DONE/BUILT by the present state govenment...the man Fashola and his ACN gangs are nothing but fraudsters. Again, below are some "infrastructural facts" about Lagos which Fashola and ACN gangsters have been using to deceive undiscerning folks (please don't be one and don't be deceived):
1. The Ikorodu Rd was built by the federal govt in the 1970's and as we speak, Fashola is destroying it. 2. The Festac housing complex was constructed by the federal govt. 3. The gowon estate was built by the federal govt. 4. Almost all the bridges/flyover were built by the federal govt. The few ones built by Fashola was done with borrowed funds from the worldbank/IMF. 5. The on going light rail contruction in the mile 2/Badagry Rd axis is being carried with the aid of IMF/world bank and federal govt.
Folks, I can go on and on, but it will do no good, as Fashola and his band of thugs have zeroed in their mind on looting the Lagos treasury to the last kobo/cents. I hereby call on all those patriotic Lagosians and concerned cititizens to quit searching for Fashola's "achievements" for there is none/was never any in the first place. I call on us (the genuine folks) to start petitioning the federal authorities like EFCC and ICP to embark on investigating the thieving and fraudulent Fashola and his gangsters who are tormenting the good people of Lagos state . |

Insightful readers will see one major reason for the rash of anti-Fashola threads on NL in the last few days. GEJ's deliberate actions against the SW are being exposed for the world to see. The facts are too glaring that even the blind can see what is going on. Shamed into traveling the Lagos-Ibadan road to attend the RCCG service Mr. GEJ moved heaven and earth to have some work started on that road. Since then, the contractor that were drafted to work on the Lagos-Ibadan road have said publicly that no contracts for the road have been awarded to them. Read the bolded part and then recall how the same GEJ Finance Minister in FY13 then withdrew an ongoing loan facility for Lagos from the World Bank. If GEJ fails to respond, Fashola should move to repair the roads at the state level within capacity, then we will see whether the FG will lift a finger. SW states also need to move to reconstruct the Lagos-Ibadan road. GEJ is really enjoying this power o!!! http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/01/oshodi-apapa-expressway-fashola-writes-fg-on-worsening-condition-of-the-road/ Oshodi-Apapa Expressway: Fashola writes FG on worsening condition of the road on JANUARY 7, 2013 · in SPECIAL REPORT By Jude Njoku LAGOS State Governor, Mr.Babatunde Raji Fashola, has complained to the Federal Government about the worsening condition of the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, a major highway that links the nation’s busiest sea ports to other parts of the country. In separate letters to President Goodluck Jonathan andhe Vice President Nemadi Sambo, the Governor also drew attention to the horrific traffic congestion on the expressway and the need to take urgent steps to fix the ever-busy road.
But the pleas seem to have fallen on deaf ears and the result is that once again, the ever-busy expressway has been plunged into an eyesore and a commuter’s nightmare. Specifically, Governor Fashola had on September, 17, 2012 forwarded a detailed presentation of what should be done to fix the road and ease the traffic congestion to Vice President Namadi Sambo. In the letter entitled “Re: Report of the Deterioration and Regeneration of Apapa, Lagos,” Fashola sought to make a presentation on the state of the road and what the restoration would take, to the National Economic Council.
Proposed presentation to NEC The letter read in parts: “Further to your Excellency’s indication of no objection to our request to make presentation to the National Economic Council, NEC, on the above subject matter, please find attached for your information, a copy of our proposed presentation to NEC. All necessary copies of the presentation have been forwarded to the NEC Secretariat for listing and further action as may be necessary. We are hopeful that the matter can be listed for the next meeting of NEC and will follow up with the Secretariat in this regard”.
Apparently overwhelmed by the contents of the presentation, the Vice President wrote back to the Governor, suggesting that the matter should be brought to the attention of President Jonathan. In the reply dated October 3, 2013, the Vice President through his Deputy Chief of Staff, Engr. M.A.K Abubakar, stated that in appreciation of the detailed nature of the presentation, which is reckoned to be beyond the consideration of the National Economic Council, NEC, the matter should be brought to the attention of the President for his consideration.
A big pothole at Mile 2, one of the several bad portions on Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos. Photo:Diran Oshe Heeding the counsel, Fashola on November 1, 2013, wrote to President Jonathan stressing the need to follow up on the initial successes that were achieved in bringing sanity on the ever-busy road. The letter read in parts: “Your Excellency will recall the deterioration and congestion of vehicular traffic that characterised the Apapa area and Tin-Can Island which host the two largest sea-ports in Nigeria.
“Apart from the congestion and deterioration, the social and economic impacts of closure of businesses and devaluation of real estate values prompted me to direct the commencement of a clean-up and a clear out with a view to commencing a restoration. Because the congestion and deterioration were connected to the operations of the ports and activities of persons dealing with the operations and some Federal Government agencies, we were delighted to get the cooperation of the Federal Government through a delegation led by the Honourable Minister of Finance, who visited us on your directive.
Initial successes “In a bid to follow up the initial successes that were achieved by the clear-out, our Government developed a restoration plan and a budget. I had written to His Excellency, the Vice President to seek permission to present the plan and the budget at the National Economic Council because of my view of national importance and implication of the consequences if we failed to take further action”.
Vanguard investigations show that deep craters and gully-like potholes have resurfaced at several sections along the expressway, causing unprecedented traffic gridlock. The palliative repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works and its agency, the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, which involved pouring laterite and granite on the bad spots, lasted only a few weeks before they were washed away by floods.
Commuters who plied the road a few days to the Christmas, literally went through hell as a result of the traffic snarl which was aggravated by the worsening state of the road and the rush by importers to clear their goods from the ports before the public holidays declared by the Federal Government to mark the festival.
Vanguard gathered that the road would not have gone into its present state of disrepair if the Federal Government which rakes in over a trillion Naira as revenue from the ports, had reacted promptly to various pleas by the Lagos State Government.
The situation, it was learnt, was exacerbated by an apparent disagreement between the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Federal Ministry of Works. The Transport Ministry which rakes about N1.3 trillion from the Apapa and Tin-can ports yearly, allegedly wants to carry out major rehabilitation works on the road but this was rejected by the Works Ministry which wants to be given the funds to do the repairs since it is statutorily empowered to do so.
Restoration plans by Lagos The restoration plan which Fashola wrote about in the letters were fashioned out by a Lagos State Executive Council committee headed by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello. The committee was mandated to work on problems such as the traffic gridlock, business paralysis and environmental degradation currently plaguing the Oshodi-Apapa axis.
The nine-man committee which was set up after the State’s executive council visited the area on April 29, 2012, said it has reduced the traffic gridlock by 70 percent although there are still occasional bottlenecks particularly in the evenings. This gridlock is caused by tankers/trailers as a result of the delay at the entrance to the ports. The Committee said it has also succeeded in dislodging miscreants from under bridges even as all illegal structures have been pulled down.
The Apapa regeneration agenda covers Marine Beach, Ijora 7Up, Costain, Ijora Olopa and their environs. Previous efforts to restore sanity along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway
Vanguard recalls that on May 7, 2012, the Presidential Task Force on Ports Reforms collaborated with the Lagos State Government to dislodge tankers and trailers parked indiscriminately along the ever-busy expressway.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA and the Kick Against Indiscipline KAI also participated in the enforcement. The operation which was carried out in the night, saw to the seizure of over 80 illegally parked trucks from the road, paving way for the free flow of traffic thereafter.
Impressed with the return of orderliness along the road, the Federal Government sent a delegation led by the Finance Minister to Lagos. Receiving the Federal Government delegation, Governor Fashola vowed that the state government would stay on the road for as long as it would take to prevent the dislodged trailers and tankers from returning.
Dr Okonjo-Iweala, together with the Minister of Transport, Idris Umar, and Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, at a meeting with Fashola, had praised the joint efforts of the Federal and Lagos State governments in restoring sanity to the road. She said the clearing of the road would reduce travel time and cost of doing business at the ports, as goods emanating from the ports would get to their destinations faster and safer. |

Perhaps it is not clear why I said the article is worthless. The reason is that an article with this title would be expected to tell us in glowing terms the great works Mimiko is doing in Ondo State - perhaps accounting for 1/2 to 3/4 of the entire article. A part of the article would then compare that to what Fashola is doing, and then show that proportionately Mimiko is doing more with less. Stop being flippant. Someone has pointed you people to public and online publication of budgets and projects by Lagos. Yet you keep asking "how is the fund dispensed?" Go and read!!! PointB: This is actually a better way of defending of Fashola rather that the usual tripe of ethnic jingoism touted by various respondents on this thread. And the lame crew that talk about Rivers, Bayelsa, should be reminded that the thread was open to discuss Fashola and Lagos, kindly stay on course.
It's true that Lagos has large civil servant population and as such pay more on recurrent expenses. However, since there is hardly any data that gives an inkling to the size of the civil service in Lagos, let alone the cost of maintaining them, we still owe it upon ourselves to ask hard questions of Lagos State Government. By the way, what is Lagos State doing to cut down it's recurrent expenses? Does paying Tinubu a huge chunk of it's revenue help?
Lagos generate over N23B in IGR and receives over N7B in Federal Allocation. How is the fund dispensed? Most of the projected are funded with externally borrowed funds, and the private sector. The public pay to use them. These externally funded projects have more to do with the commercial viability of the state than any other consideration.
So the question remains: How has Fashola deployed over N30B to provide for the need of the citizens of Lagos State? Is it enough to say that the civil service is huge, let's clap for him for using a huge chunk of the N30B to maintain them? Does the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos not demand more transparency? Should we know for instance how much is spent on feeding in Alausa? Why is there no running water in Lagos homes? |

I have no idea what money you are talking about - if you know please share. You said you won't trade stats but then go on to suggest you know some stats about money. If you don't know my position about governance in Nigeria please visit my recent post on here: Re: If You Were President, How Much Would You Steal? It is funny that the same people that would like to lambast the best governor in Nigeria and his mentor see no reason to lambast PDP, OBJ, GEJ and all the other goons that have been milking Nigeria dry since 1999 - let's not forget that Obasanjo was caught in broad daylight with $45k cash transported from Nigeria to USA in contravention of the latter's law. We have glaring cases of corruption that "cannot" be prosecuted because it is Nigeria - even less concerned nations have made those involved pay for their crimes. There is one governor in Nigeria today that publishes budgets and projects online - that would be Fashola. There is only one governor that through his actions, building on Tinubu's initial successes, has shown the international community that Nigeria can be better than the general political class makes it out to be - Fashola. There is one governor that successfully implemented mass transit, had West Africa's first suspension bridge built, is changing a Federal road into a 10-lane international expressway, is bringing a $6 billion investment through the Eko Atlantic project to live before our very eyes, among 100s more projects - that would be Fashola. They forget that Tinubu administered Lagos with great results as OBJ illegally held on to LG allocations for the state. Certainly Lagos is far from El-Dorado, but Fashola is blazing trails that the permanently-redundant FG, even with its N5 trillion annual budget, cannot dream of. We should join hands to encourage even better performance rather than returning to a race to the bottom, bring-him-down-because-he-is-more-perfect-than-the-rest-but-not-perfect, attitude. If what Fashola is doing could be accomplished by anybody and another party, Lagos would be better than Dubai today because we always knew Lagos needed these things and plans that came to naught were made for decades. Charlattans who see the results of hard work are thinking let us take it over so we can get the glory - after all it is privately funded, world bank funded and such crap!!! They forget that the confidence in Lagos is due to the attitude, intelligence, vision and hard work of the current leaders. Attributes that these charlatans are lacking - they will destroy Fashola's and Tinubu's good works and we would be the losers for it. Even OBJ, bad as an administrator as he was, left Nigeria slightly better than he met it. But what did Yar'adua and GEJ do afterwards - they tore OBJ's fledgling projects down and then proceeded to build nothing to make our lives better. Compare that to how Fashola has cooperated with his mentor, carried on from where the latter left off and is currently surpassing his achievements - as it should be. Enough said. banku: Kuroji, I am not going to trade insults and convenient stats with you, there is enough out there and you are closer and paid to trade them. Funny that such educated people would be making crass claims like the below. You think the World Bank gives the funds free. All these are loans - where do you think the funds for servicing the loans come from? That's right, the Lagos State government has to pay the loans even before the project is completed. The tolls help ensure that that money can be recovered and put to good use for new projects in the future, expanding the capacity of the state to take better care of citizens. It seems you are ashamed of your own state - otherwise this your gun-ho determination to see that Lagos excels should be in your home state. Be careful what you invite on yourself with an agenda that is so crass as to shame Satan into hiding in the deepest parts of hell. PointB: I don't give a rat's ar/se about PDP. To blazes with them for all I care.
My point, and that of every keen observer is that juxtaposed with over N30B every month for that last three years or so, Fashola's touted achievements pales into insignificance.
The BRT project is both world bank funded and private investment, pray where is N30B spent? Why is there no running water in Lagos homes? The Lekki-Epe road is private sector build and already tolled! Same applies to the Ikoyi bridge. The proposed Mile2-Badagry 10 lane project is funded by world bank, like the proposed expansion of the Ikorodu road. Did it take N30B to chase okada rider all over the city of Lagos? Was it spent planting and watering flowers?
There are litany of over inflated Lagos State sponsored projects in Lagos though (even if on paper), but the question remain how do they measure up to over N30B/month income of Lagos State. Shouldn't taxpayers ask where their money is going? |
Politics › Re: If You Were President, How Much Would You Steal? by koruji(m): 6:02pm On Jan 06, 2013 |
There is no stealing in Nigeria - period. That might sound so silly unless you are familiar with what I consider one of the most fundamental theological expositions in history written by the Apostle Paul. In Romans 5:12-14 the apostle Paul states: “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned— for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law..."
A corollary to the logic of Apostle Paul is that if we write stealing into the law then there will be no stealing. I have made this argument in the past that most of the corruption in Nigeria are within the law - by the book, to put it another way. Thus, if you remove all the corruption done in contravention of Nigerian law you would have solved only 1% of the corruption problem in Nigeria. Everyone in government in Nigeria would steal by default - unless they personally work to return all the undue proceeds the law affords them. Bottom-line is fundamental changes to our way of life is needed. ROSSIKE: Please answer using only the letters (a to l).
This is part of a survey I'm conducting. So do answer as truthfully as possible. The word 'steal' means using your position to undue advantage in acquiring the funds, even without direct looting of the treasury.

BTW the Lagos per person budget is about average in the nation e.g. in 2013 it is about N130k for Bayelsa and only N33k for Lagos even less than for Ondo State. PointB: It is not about having anything personal against Fashola. The core of the discontent is that Lagos State receives over N30B every month, but there is no commensurate project completed to justify the income. What's even alarming is that most of the project attributed to Fashola are either private sector sponsored or World Bank financed.
Isn't it then worrying that while Lagos State generate high IGR and receives substantial FG allocation, the state is continually being immersed further and further into external debt. If this is not sign of stealing and systematic corruption, pray, say what is? |

I guess they would rather have their light or darkness under wraps. Even "church" people become animals when they have a little power over someone in Nigeria. confusion247: So rules apply in covering the gatherings of church's congregation? Please is the church a secret cult? Does this church have something to hide? Is this video coverage not part of propagating the word of GOD? Too bad that some churches now operates like political parties. |

Yeah right - "not visible to myopic eyes" is really code for prempting his rising profile towards 2015!!! afam4eva: At the beginning people just hated Fashola's benefactor and talk that it would be better for him to leave the claws of Tinubu. But right now, it's less about Tinubu and more about what Fashola has done. Yes, we can all agree that he has done better than his predecessors but the hype is just too much. You can't really blame those that are praising him to high heavens because this is the first time they're experiencing a semblance of development in a long time. So, while people like this are viewing Fashola's tenure in plain black and white, people like us are looking at more critical and deep issues that's not visible to myopic eyes. |

I think this makes sense - and is actually a big help to them. And it calls on the "merging" parties to wake up and get moving. It will be unconscionable for these parties to let the same confusion of 2011 overtake them in 2015. |
Politics › Re: Imagine Ondo’s Mimiko With Lagos Money by koruji(m): 5:24am On Jan 06, 2013 |
I read this entire article hoping to find something useful by the end - hope dashed. The title itself is worthless - it should also include "... AND NEEDS". Then you will realize that Ondo does have Lagos money on a per person basis: ...Lagos (2013): Budget - about N500 billion; Population - 15 to 20 million ==> per person budget = N25K to N33K ...Ondo (2013): Budget - about N150 billion; Population - about 4 million ==> per person budget = N37K What's the point, apart from the stereotyping of Ondo people as violent? Was this was supposed to present Ondo people in good light? banku: IMAGINE ONDO’s MIMIKO WITH LAGOS MONEY Farouk Martins Aresa thenigerianvoice.com |
