Would this also be a good option if it's a family of say 5 with 10 big bags/luggages each weighing almost 23k? Or the person should book/hire a mini van that usually contains 8 persons?

Humans + 230kg of 10 Bags.
Na to hire 12-18 seater bus be that nah.

Yes, I plan to give her something on weekly or monthly basis. I will ask her inlaw to please also give his own oo. I can’t begin to describe the work of childcare for 2 babies less than 3 yrs of age.

I tried a professional minder, she told me £40 for 2 hours in the evening and £40 for 2 hours in the morning. That is £80 for me to go do one shift! How much will the shift pay me na. My husband kuku say make I no drop his kids anywhere. We will do it by ourselves if it means cutting down on our hours, then so be it
We currently working opposite each other. I work when he is off and he works when I am off.

We are both tired and exhausted as it feels like having no day off since our off days are spent babysitting / little kids.

What are the chances that Baby number 3 will be conceived during Mama’s visit?

The fact that he/she paid with her debit card and they cancel the order, he/she isn't asking for credit, your credit history doesn't come into this when you are paying with your debit card, he/she stated they even had to approve the transaction via their banking app.

So I don't know why the debit thing comes into it. I don't think people really understands what's going on in here, honestly. This is a good case for her/him to work on.

What is the case here? Racism? or GDPR breach? Or both?

OP should stop wasting their time, and reserve the vex for something more tangible.

I am genuienly surprised at some of the comments about your issue. Please do not be deterred and follow it up. You have a very good case and moreover what you are asking for is just an acknowledgement of wrong from them. Maybe because I have undergone GDPR training that's why it's easy for me to see the wrong here.

I am genuinely surprised at how pretty standard procedures can suddenly be given racial connotations.

Someone made an application for debt. A company feels something doesn’t add up. The company says, NO, we can’t give you this credit because it doesn’t meet our policies. Company communicates to the applicant, saying sorry. We can’t give you this. Applicant almost immediately uses their debit card to make the same purchase, from the same company. Because the smell of the fish(y) from the first instance hasn’t completely gone, company says wait a minute, just a couple of hours ago, you wanted this same thing on credit. We said no. Now the same you have suddenly come up with £800.00 to make an outright purchase. We need to investigate further. Company details their fraud unit to investigate, to prove that this person is who they say they are. Because company doesn’t want to hold funds for too long, company returns £800 to customer. This was referred to fraud unit.
The fraud unit guy enters the name provided by the customer into Google search engine. The first hit is a LinkedIn page. Fraud unit guy browses the first link. And turns off their computer.

Customer (who uses LinkedIn Premium) now sees that Company employee had looked them up. Customer now claims they were refused because they were black? And African? Customer now says Company had no authority to ‘Google’ them? Because of GDPR?

PayPal approved the payment, if PayPal rejects it then I won’t be directed back to John Lewis’ website with an order confirmation. I’ve been using PayPal since Nigeria so I’ve never really had issues with them. It was John Lewis who rejected the payment. Oh well, it is what it is.

Oh cool.
Do you have a time lapse of events?
Did JL reject AFTER their staff (allegedly) went through your LinkedIn profile? Or was it AFTER the staff went through that they rejected? Do you have clear empirical evidence of which happened first?

What if the LinkedIn profile view happened AFTER the rejection? Will you still have a case that the rejection was because of the melanin in your epidermis?

Let me even ask a cheeky one… Have you updated your PayPal profile to reflect that you are now in the UK, not in Nigeria?
I am not saying that’s the case, but a PayPal profile (from Nigeria), making a purchase, to be delivered in the UK, and probably there is some mismatch somewhere… it is JL duty to prevent fraud. This is me being cheekily speculative.

Sincerely, if I were you, I would preserve my energy for bigger fish.
You haven’t been in the UK for more than 7 months (on your current sojourn). Reserve the energy (and Lawyer fees) for things like ILR application Etc…

Good morning elders,

Please I would like to find out if this is discrimination or if I’m just overreacting. The gist is, I tried to order a laptop worth £800+ from John Lewis using the PayPal pay in 3 option. Mind you I’ve used this feature multiple times on other stores without issues. Anyway, John Lewis sent me an email saying the order has been cancelled because I failed security check. I called John Lewis to confirm why this happened and the customer service rep told me that it’s probably because I used paypal but I should either try again or pay at once. I decided to try again, same PayPal and the same thing happened. Now here’s where it got interesting, I randomly decided to go through my LinkedIn and noticed that a staff of John Lewis in their frauds department had gone through my LinkedIn Profile. I didn’t think anything of it and since I needed a new laptop urgently, I decided to just pay at once and order it with my debit card, which I did and approved the payment on my Barclays app. However the same thing happened again; I was rejected a third time. So the fact that a staff from their frauds department went through my page and I still got rejected a third time is giving me signals that they concluded that I must be a fraudster or something perhaps because I’m black African because how do I get rejected a third time for trying to pay for a service with instant debit from my account that has more than enough funds for the laptop. I’ve spoken to John Lewis about this and about a staff from their fraud unit going through my LinkedIn page and they keep feigning clueless and they said they’ll contact me but they haven’t. My friend thinks I should speak to a lawyer about it but I think that’s a bit intense. Should I just ignore and move on from this or should I report this as consumer discrimination. I’m confused.

I think you are over reacting.

You said their email mentioned you failed security check - which is not uncommon.

Lawyers fees dear die…

“Perhaps because I’m black “ that is 100% speculation. Based on info available to you, there is NO WAY you can prove that, easily.

Based on the chronology of events you made here, it was in this order:

A. You tried PayPal, it was rejected.

B. You checked your LinkedIn profile and saw that a LinkedIn staff viewed your profile (presumably after the PayPal rejection)

C. You next uses your debit card. This was subsequently rejected too.

Conclusion: The decision made in C was as a result of the LinkedIn profile view.

How about A? Why did PayPal refuse (in the first instant?)Have you bothered to research that?

My take: Spare your energy for more serious battles

I'm currently house hunting for me and my dependants and I found a 2 bedroom apartment a with a rent to buy option for 800pcm. It is unfurnished and i will have to do the flooring in the lounge and 2 bedrooms. The toilet and kitchen has been done already by the landlord. There is oven and hob but no freezer and washing machine.

I'm concerned about how much it will cost me to purchase all the things to make it comfortable and also do the floor which will be in addition to my monthly council tax, utility and other bills.

The attraction for me is that it is the closest house within walking distance that I have seen to my office and possibly the option of owning the apartment 5 years down the line with the option of rent to buy.

My other concern is that the 4 schools I saw close to the house are just good schools and one without rating. In the event that I want my kids to go to outstanding schools, is there a possibility for them being accepted in outstanding schools even if they are far from the house address? Please all the elders in the house, help me put mouth o. Is the house worth taking, what other things should I consider before concluding. I just booked a viewing appointment

“Just Good Schools”
As Missposh, you probably want the likes of Eton?
I personally would not use the word ‘just’ in front of ‘good’ schools.
If you (truly) want your kids to attend the ‘outstanding’ schools, you MUST be suitably located within the catchment area. In that case it is (highly possible) that that £800pcm you wish to spend on housing is just enough for a 2-week rent in the catchment area of an outstanding school.

I'm not keen on interest rates as I'm not permitted to earn interest.

Moneybox ohhh
Haagreaves ohhh
All will give you interest.

If you are truly not permitted to earn interest, and you really wish to live by that, here is a siMple solution:
Go to Poundland, buy a piggybank (it costs £1).
Then be saving your money in there. Keep the piggybank safely under your bed.
No interest will accrue.

Guys I finally got a job in the Uk after trying for 2 years from Nigeria . To God be the glory.

My office is in Wilmsow Cheshire Manchester. Unfortunately, resumption time is 7:30am-5pm.

We are a family of 3 but i will be coming alone first.

I wonder how, i would juggle it out with my child and school and still resume work by 7:30am when my family moves in with him.

I have asked this question before but i am looking for a place close to wilmslow that is affordable in terms of rent and schools for kids. Please suggest the closest towns i can live in.

Thank you, May God bless you all.

Congratulations. I remember you. The Embryologist yes? but you had a 25k job last year. did you turn it down?

The statement in bold isnt very clear. You are female (mother). You have a child. and you said its a family of 3 . does that mean you, your husband (or civil partner) and your child? Now you said "when my family moves in with him" thats a bit confusing.

You said "but i will be coming alone first" that is usually the best thing. You come alone, test the waters and settle down wella....
By the waym, how old is your child?
If you are buoyant enough, and the child is school age, you could enroll them in Breakfast club (some schools start at 7:00 am - or earlier).

I tried to check and can see so many cards. Please what do you need to look out for before choosing a credit card? Is it the interest rate?

Use the services that would give you percentage of acceptance.

For some cards, you will see that you have been pre-approved. That means you have a 99.999999999999 chance of getting it if you apply.

For some, you see 80%, 70% or 50% etc.... for some, you will be outrightly told you cant get it, dont bother.
