... Can be two sides to a story tbh

I remember my house mate once met one on a bus and she continued to lie about her age until my friend asked to see ID

She then confessed she's 16.

Either zip up or confirm age so as to not land in hot soup smiley

Your housemate dodged a bullet.
One day, I shall tell the story of how I met one ‘fully matured woman’ on the train, coming from Wembley stadium.
This ‘woman’ practically threw herself at me, gave me all the green lights. She practically led me on.
We became ‘friends’
We played. We got to the point of doing the do. Infact the preliminary routine don happen sef.
When this ‘woman’ mentioned one day that her mum told her she was born on the day Saddam Hussein was killed. I made a mental calculation. I was in 200 level then. I asked her age. She said she had just turned 18. Sassan Hussein. Killed. Born. The maths was not mathsing up.

Little (well, maybe no so little) John Thomas went limp. I lost every desire to copulate.
I blocked her on all social media. Deleted her number. We have never seen nor spoken nor chatted ever since.
I RAN.

This is the ECONOMIST.

Guess who is being blamed?

Legally immigrated and hardworking International students & their very hardworking dependants.

Meanwhile, it has been really ‘nice’ seeing monikers who have never ever commented on this thread (from part 1) writing so much and casting aspersions on international students & their dependants - as someone called them: Suella-lets and Suella-lings.

Zahra29:

the immigration surcharge is a nominal amount that does not cover the cost of use for those who access the health service. Ask international patients how much they paid to give birth on the NHS for example (upwards of £5k), and contrast the overall cost paid by an international student or dependent to give birth here and you'll see that the surcharge is heavily subsidised.

Funding for some nursery places which many tax paying British residents cannot access, is provided to international students on lower household incomes because priority is given to the welfare of the child, even though not British. This may be free for the recipient but it is paid for by the tax payer and not the university.

Seriously, I am tempted to follow in the footsteps of the person who wanted to know the route Zahra29 arrived the UK on. Zahra29's lived experience appears to be that of someone in a bubble. The IHS is 'a nominal fee compared to the service that international students and dependants get' really? It appears Zahra29 doesn't (yet) undertand that dependants who work full time do pay something called NI contribution (tax), part of which is used to fund the NHS.... (Double taxation).

Now look at the Bolded, it would appear Zahra29 havent heard of something called NRPF before. Zahra29 is suggesting that the children of international students are priotised for free Nursery places? (Well, I live in England, and I Know for a fact that that is untrue. Maybe Zahra9 is in Wales or Scotland or Northern Ireland) .Is there anything further from the fact/truth than that? When a 2 year-old child of not just a student, but even tier-2 visa holders cannot get 30 hours per week nursery.

Ayam tayad.

This long writeup particularly applies to ENGLAND. To teach in England, a person is required to have a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or a Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills (QTLS).
The QTS is more prestigious/respected than the QTLS (just like BSc is better respected than HND in Naija). So getting the QTS or QTLS is the pathway into teaching. These are the 5 main routes into teaching.

Another vote here for Skipton - very straightforward, sensible, Northern folk😁

I posted this news on the other forum earlier. Interesting how much of a buzz it's made as there are already 100% mortgage providers on the market like Barclays. Maybe it's because no pseudo deposit is required in the form of a guarantor. I wonder what the detail will look like - lending and affordability criteria and APR

Do you mean Barclays already offer 100% mortgage?

Honestly if your ultimate goal is to save towards buying a house then stock and share is not the right tool to use considering the risks involved. During the pandemic a family friend was saving to buy a house and they decided to start investing in stock and share while economy reopen. By the end of 2021 they have lost closed to £30,000. They have to start afresh again saving

Thanks @Justwise.
Maybe I didn’t put it well enough.
I max out my £4,000 LISA using moneybox and govt has topped up my cool 1k for me on each occasion.

I want to use the sticks & shares as a second (but parallel) way to earn some extra dosh.
I don’t mind if the margin is small, but I want to be buying sticks and shares worth £100 each week.

But I really do not know which ones to buy and which to avoid.

Stocks & Shares ISA.

Last year, a veteran on this thread shared a link. I downloaded Freetrade app. I have been saving for house deposit using moneybox LISA.
Now, I am in position to be saving £100 weekly. I would really like to be buying sticks & shares on the Freetrade app.

My problem is, I don’t know which ones to buy. What constitutes intelligent buying. And which ones to avoid.

Please can people help me? I understand you will always add the ‘No financial advise’ disclaimer. But please. Any pointers? Or sharing of experiences?

Please help.

I have nothing to lose really.. I’m leaving in a few months time.. and I want my money back. In fact I must get my money back. The country keeps taking but has no interest in giving.. so any opportunity I’ve to take my money back is a plus..

I’m on Tier 2 visa. I never mentioned Tier 4 Visa. Some smart lady said I should wait some more till I have enough 20hrs slip. That’s smart . Thank you

You mentioned that you were a student, no?
Student visa = tier 4
Work visa = tier 2

No?

Hello house, I’m trying to apply for a refund of IHS Surcharge fee, and it has requested for a 6months payslip history. The first few months I got here on Tier 2. My slips reads above 20hrs… just about 2 slips.. can I upload it along side the remaining slips ? What’s the way forward.
Also I’m not sure I’m reading it right, but just to be correct about my eligibility. Am I eligible as a studnt on Tier 2 visa, who has worked in a healthcare role for more than 6months?

Thank you.

Surely, I’m not the only one that is confused about the question by this OP?

You are on a tier-2. You are a student. Then you are not a student.

Oggg:
@joyfuljoyful as long as your deposit is held with a scheme that is a neutral body, pls quit keep going back to them to argue anything. When the tenancy ends go back and claim your deposit back, all of it.. the battle will begin there. You will be asked for proofs and they also. No matter what u are doing… dont admit to any faults as thats what will cause the adjudicator to keep your money.. or award it in favour of them. They cnt take ur money if it was put in a deposit scheme. My iwn billed me 800 for redecoration, carpet and cleaning or so. I fought back with my pictures and videos when it was time. The deposit scheme returned all my money and awarded them zero. Quit goin back and forth with landlord or agent. When u move out, log back into ur deposit acct and claim the money back. But before u leave u must take ur pictures and enough videos for ur proofs
As long as they didn’t take any pictures and videos when they wanted to hand the house over to you, adjudicator will not give them the money. They will need to prove anything if at all was caused by you. Dont beg anyone. Just avoid any back and forth with them if the money is with a deposit scheme

You conveniently left out the part where JoyfulJoy admitted that they redecorated the house (possibly in contravention of their contract).

Just as someone suggested, the first thing JoyfulJoy would have to do is look at the contract. Read it, carefully.

Now this is where you are wrong when you try to assert my circumstance. You do not know me, you never did interviews with me. You can not say what I did or didn't do.

If it is too hard to understand that I am being objective when I say I can not jump on a closed contract tying me down to a compulsory 5 years, then let it be.

Dear sir,

I had more than 5 jobs lined up while I was in Nigeria and I was far from desperate. I needn't tell you more...it's not necessary.

Once again...I am in a licensed profession and NHS needs me to function effectively. I walked into UK like a freshly crowned Prince.

Cheers!!

Wow!!!
I never knew Physiotherapists were in such very high demand in the UK, to the extend of walking in like freshly crowned princes. Time for me to change career. Physiotherapy is it, then.

Good day bosses, I got mail from my school(in Liverpool) as regard my outstanding tuition fee balance, which I am suppose to pay in full within four months from my enrollment date, is due for payment this month. And that if I don't pay, that sanctions will be imposed, one of which is to prevent me from continuing my studies.
My initial payment plan didn't work out as planned, and I also didn't get job on time after I arrived UK.
Because I do not have enough time to get all the money I need from my job before they start imposing sanctions on me,
The option I have left now is to sell my land in Port Harcourt. I have two plots of land(fenced) and another half plot round eneka-igbo eche link road in port Harcourt to sell. Documents are deeds of conveyance
Local government levy receipt
State government levy receipt
Community youth levy
Price is 3.5m per plot
I can also use it as collateral for loan with payback payment plan within agreed period. As I can afford to do £300 monthly direct debit from my account to payback the loan.

Please, I really need help, I don't have anywhere else to turn to. I have never taken a loan before, this is my first time. I don't have any reason to default. My mind have not been at rest since I got the email from the school.

@ the Bolded 1:
Did you really have a functional initial plan?

@ the Bolded 2:
Assumption is that you now have a job, right?

From the Job you now have, are you able to pay £1,000 to the school monthly? If yes, re-negotiate a flexi-payment plan with the school. They can roar and bark, they will hardly bite (as first resort). Just make a commitment to the school (in much smaller chunks - say £1000 per month). At least if something dey enter, dem go give you small breathing space.

To get a valid insurance, you need a valid licence. A provisional licence does not allow you to drive unaccompanied. If you have spent less than a a year, you MIGHT be able to use your Naija Driver's licence.

Do not be caught driving that faragon bus without insurance, or without a valid licence.

You CANNOT legally work 'unlimitedly' in the UK if you are on Tier-2 or Tier-4 visa. Either switch to Global Talent( which I am not sure you qualify) or wait till you get ILR.

Due to unforseen circumstances totally beyond my control, I need to urgently book a flight to Abuja.

I intend to take EgyptAir on my return journey.

Egypt Air appears to be the most budget-friendly option (Yes, I am really tight and ££ and infact, If there were to be cheap STANDING ONLY flights, I no go mind)

If I have a 12-hour lay over in Cairo, will I be given hotel accomodation please?

Anyone with EGYPTAIR experience?

Even basic things like interview ethics that apply here, I have had to learn by trial and error.

The new role is full 40hours, but only 2 days in the office.

The current role is as low as 16hrs and as high as you like (provided shifts are available). I told them I was only going to do weekends and maybe some nights. I never opted to do day shift and I do not have that in mind.

... but really the job has almost no stress, I just routinely take records and I get my full night's sleep in a furnished room.

The sector of the job will determine how bespoke the advise you will receive.

The advice for NHS nurse will be a little different from that of an Engineer
