Business / Is Dangote Really The Richest Man In Nigeria? by kropelgrada(m): 2:18am On Sep 10, 2014 |
I know this might sound funny, but given the type of country that we live in and the kind of people that dwell in it,i still find it difficult to believe that Dangote is the richest man in Nigeria. Aliko Dangote might not actually be the richest man in Nigeria and here are some facts that made me think again about Dangote being the richest man in Nigeria. It is no longer news that some wealthy northern Nigerians own Oil blocs in the south, but what is news is that most of them have actually gone into partnership with some Multi-national Oil Companies to produce crude oil and these oil blocs are seriously producing and selling crude oil on a daily basis. You can imagine the amount of money that these guys are making on a daily basis.Check the price of one barrel of crude and multiply say by 250,000 barrels because that is what some of these oil-blocs produce on an average in a day;and you will get the real picture. But because these oil blocs are still in contention, these silent billionaires won't brag about their wealth or draw attentions to themselves but quietly be smiling to the bank daily.Mind you, production on these oil blocs are not regulated by NNPC because these oil-blocs were bought outrightly or solely allocated to these individuals either for personal gains or for political reasons by the then military junta especially during the era of IBB and Abacha. I can name a few oil blocs owned by some individuals from the north and the respective companies with which they use to produce from these oil-blocs.But i won't on this forum because i still like my head o..besides me go like still own oil-bloc one day na . Secondly the Maryam Abacha theory which states that and i quote "No matter what the Federal Government takes from us,we can never be as poor as the Dangotes" might still be a proven fact. And the reason i came up with this conclusion is due to the recent return of $227 million of Abacha's loot to the FG of Nigeria.Cos how can you explain to me that 16 years after this guy's death they are still returning millions of dollars of this guy's loot. And it was reported that he looted over $8 billion dollars.Of course you and i know that the Abachas' are no push over given their history(The FG of Nigeria can attest to that),so we know that they have still got a large chunk of that loot and that your thought is as good as mine that they have invested a lot of the money somewhere and quietly reaping dividend. And it is also a known fact that they have one of the richest men in Cameroon as an in-law whose net-worth tripled since he got married to Abacha's daughter.Do your maths and you'll know where his major capital is coming from.Watch out for Mohammed Abacha's campaign as he vies to be the next governor of Kano State. So it is hard to easily say that Dangote is the richest man in Nigeria.Officially he is the richest man but going by some known and unknown facts which we might never be told he might not be. Even Dangote himself is usually always humbled in the midst of his northern brothers because he knows that some of them are stupendously wealthy and he still has some catching up to do. Arab Money |

Education / What Is The Story Behind Your Nickname? by kropelgrada(m): 2:20pm On Sep 09, 2014 |
During my secondary school, university and up until this present day,i have come across a lot of nicknames. Some are funny, some easily coined from a person's original name, some the acronyms of a person's name, some are just outright mean, while some are very cool though i must admit. When i hear some monikers a lot of things go through my mind like, what could possibly be the story behind such a nickname?. Some i can easily figure out and relate to,but some i can't help but wonder.. Even right here on nairaland some monikers are so weird and funny that i need to pause to amuse myself with the reason behind such monikers before going on to read the posts. Here is a list of nicknames that i find interesting during my sojourn so far on Nairaland Omenuko Omenka Kobonaire Nri Priest Ngeneukwuenu Andy Blaze AySuperstories Baddestguyp Omomehn Tosyne2much Aktor365 mako007 And numerous others i can't remember right now but very funny So please let us know the story behind your nickname or why you chose to go with such moniker. Let the discussions begin. |

I can actually believe the ages of these Nigerian celebrities, but for their Ghanian counterparts i find it hard to believe..Tell me again about John Dumelo and Juliet ibrahim's age. Burna Boy is actually a small boy too..I knew him way back when he used to hustle at Garrison in Port harcourt He is just older than his age. 2 Likes |

50calibre:You've got it all wrong,Dangote is not a one off.You seem to forget that each generation comes with their own type and genius. For your information Bill Gate was worth $46 Billion, but just under 10 years he has managed to almost double that amount. And in that 10 years he didn't see Mark Zuckerberg or those other Twitter guys coming. The world will still be led by new innovations and thinkings, and the common man will still be ripped off by such innovations. And the same applies for Nigerians.Even the "almighty" Dangote will tell you that potentials abound in Nigeria that still needs to be tapped. And there are still young vibrant Nigerians with serious aspirations everywhere..Even Oluwaseun Osewa of Nairaland,do you know how much he makes from web traffic and all?cos Forbes has not published his net-worth yet?.Maybe that is why you think boys are smiling..Boys are not smiling oo.Like i know a young Nigerian over here in the UK who closes deals like no man's business and he is always a step ahead when it comes to business ideas and innovations. You don't need Ivy league college or universities to teach you that.Survival instincts comes from within and it will drive you to success. Yes we are stricken by the "poverty mentality" syndrome, but out of this syndrome comes determination to succeed and ability to survive under harsh conditions. You'll get to appreciate Nigerians a lot when you meet them outside the shores of the country. Why i'm vexed by your continous reference that you must attend one of these ivy league high schools to be leaders of industries or for the so called "benefits" or "cliques" that comes with it;is that your case is not always true.. I happen to be pursuing a higher degree in a foreign land and in a reputable school and i see guys who attended ordinary secondary schools and ordinary Federal and State Universities giving these so called Ivy league secondary school/University kids a good run for their money and these guys just happened to be privileged to have grants and scholarships to study outside the shores of the countries. And during career seminars and fairs when the oil companies and other MNC's or blue chip companies comes calling,it is those exceptionally brilliant kids who have earned their bragging rights through hard work that they will go for.And i don't see so many "Ivy league school" kids there. Now tell me in the next 10-15 years when it is time for roll call of the next generation leaders who are you going to find there, you are still going to find these kids who made it through determination to succeed at the helm of affairs and as captains of industries. These Ivy league kids always end up managing their father's companies and industries and don't always surpass their father's achievements cos they believe everything should come to them on a platter of gold. Yes they have their own cliques et al..but nothing comes out of it than pure social networking and gatherings.Even Dangote would rather deal with a guy with a humble back ground who is ready to knuckle down and fetch him results than these so called Ivy league kids.Cos he knows these guys are hungry for success and determined to succeed. So you don't need Ivy league schools to be successful in life guy.I'm not saying that it is not good, but all i'm saying is that they are not worth dying for.And just as you think that "poverty mentality" is eating us up,so is "i want to belong mentality".Some things are just meant to happen and some are not.If your father has money and out of his subconscious decides to send you to an ivy league, fine, but that does not mean you are intellectually superior to an average, middle class or lower class kid,or determines your stance in life. 6 Likes |

Kzinne: the only schools in nigeria that can beat them are the Kings Colleges, Queens colleges, and the first generation FGCs (federal government colleges- sagamu, ijaniki, odogbolu, enugu, ilorin). apart from these schools, sorry you are on a very long thingI rep FGCEnugu my alma-mater! 1 Like |
