My fuel consumption statistics so far, 9 days ago , I filled my tank to the brim and reset my odometer @ the spot to zero. used the car for usual "go to office and back' (city driving only) yesterday evening, I decided to refill my tank after 151miles/243km , again I filled to the brim @ same filling station, which rounded up @ N1800 even though some poured out after no more space in the tank. totaling 27.7litres. now lets do small Arithmetic, according to statistics on www dot fueleconomy dot gov URL, they say the car can do 21miles with 1gallon of fuel which is 33.8km for 3.78litres of fuel. for city driving. in my case I did, 151miles with 7.3gallons = 243km with 27.5litres therefore 7.3 x 21 = 153.3miles , which is not far from what my benz did (151miles) I was really impressed with this calculation, I am sure many cars used in lagos hardly meet these settings owing to high traffic. suffice it to say that I have not arrived at my style of getting car best tuned up to conserve fuel and to be more efficient, I think I have really missed using this Benz technology thinking Japanese are the all n all in fuel conservation, WHAT IS YOUR FUEL CONSUMPTION ON URBAN DRIVING? ![]() |
Inglewood:Mine its from Germany, and quite old compared to the one you are thinking of bringing in, as I said in my first post, the suspension and tyres were the only things I have done so far, and I sourced them from Ladipo market, toks, lol Mechanics are they and they would fix it for you, in my model, I have noticed that what is expensive are things like the front bumpers, some relays like the AC relay, trafficator pointers, , but generally, I think its fair, shocks, discs, etc are very cheap, compared to camry of same yr. suffice it to add again, I zoomed thru 3rd mainland bridge late ysterday, and the confidence on the car just keeps improving, lol ![]() |
Thanks Oga Kunle, its really nice we have a thread as this to discuss issues relating to the cars perhaps we must have bought via the same nairaland. I expect to see threads as HONDA, TOYOTA, AUDI , BMW etc, |
Siena, its a M111, 4-cylinder, I am new with this O, so pardon me if I use any wrong term, but its nice, since I bought it, I have not driven the camry for over a month, The Camry now feels lighter, @ Audi, well, I've not tried that out, I wont be suprised if they are same, these German people I think they build to last and reliable!, |
keep your experiences with this German ride coming, |
My Good people of Nairaland, this thread is aimed at discussing about experiences with all kinds of Daimler Chrysler (Mercedes Benz) vehicles, with special reference to sedans, coupes, wagons and its likes, feel free to comment on any one's contribution and suggestion, You can proffer solutions here as well, as a start, here's mine, Yea as promised last time, my new experience on Mercedes Benz c-class is really awesome, the car is so robust and heavy, it gives u a sense of confidence, I got the ride on this Nairaland, and was lucky to be d first person to change the shocks and bushings, etc and perhaps even tyre, its a nice ride- 1996 model, I presume it still has enough to give me, I had the opportunity to open the valves quite well this morning, immediately after sanitation, damn! it moved, see me see BMW and camry dey do competition for road, b4 you know it, speedo don dey near 140km/hr, while the ride was just telling me , "IS THAT ALL YOU CAN GIVE?", lol I am planning to change the transmission oil next weekend, its automatic, , pls advice, if you have any with rgds to this change, fuel consumption with 2000 camry is same if not better , , I sometimes imagine say "so na wetin I dey miss since be dis?, lol My camry even though newer, has been taken over by madam, but as she parked the car in the compound this morning she confessed she liked the handling, I think I might stop her from using it even though it was actually meant for her, lol ![]() |
@ Mishoo, where do you buy your Mobil oil? I ask cos I dont trust my neighbours, anything can happen. I am sure Siena would give a better idea and advice for you, especially whenever he hears, VW & AUDI , lol |

Brand New Tokunboh ? |
abbeycity2: wat a post, guy did you check the date that post was made? , lol, or you think the guy would still be looking for a Honda Hala with that 500k till now?, after over 2yrs?, lol |
seal777:hey!! , I didnt see your post before my earlier response, I have not really taken time to see that your 1MZ-FE engine, but I am sure the engine nos location is hidden just as in its younger brother, if thats the case, my guy, ignore, when police ask you tell them to check it on their own, infact they dont usually check for the engine nos unless its really visible, A desperate policeman would sure burn his fingers while attempting to get the engine nos of the 5S-FE model cos its located just beneath the top cylinder where hot water leaves the engine, ![]() |
enjoy your ride, and be careful with the throttle cos its sure would get better after one or two service periods, talking about the oil choice, I was using visco 2000 in my camry @ every 80-90days oil/filter change, but I noticed it would be more economical if I use Mobil-1 for 6months or more with one filter, believe you me, my first Mobil-1 experience was smthn else, I mean It was Waow!!, the engine sound and performance was damn outstanding, now that the ride is used by madam, servicing is due in November, and the more you use it, the longer the service periods which eventually lands @ 365days, per gallon of oil and filter, = N7500 + N1000 (briscoe filter) + N500(Mechanic) = N9000 for 1yr, as against, 5 x N2200(visco 2000) + 5x N1000 + 5X N500 = N18,500. ![]() |
baba4u93:lemme assume, you weren't terming the Nigerian masses as ignorant, meanwhile, are you not referring to this equipment?- http://www.wescotools.com/p-23338-otc-otc3100pro-autoboss-v30-diagnostic-tool-professional-kit.aspx guy lemme take you back to when computers and gsm was kinda new in Naija, whence Nokia 3310 was almost like 10k or even more, when a 512MB of memory was like 15k- , but its not like that today, technology has gone so cheap and competitive, , perhaps you are not aware that many people these days sell and buy auto diag tools with howto use manual, take it or leave it, my point is clear, lets be fair to our people PLSSSSS!! Charging that amount for diagnosis only is damn too expensive, and its a replica of the greedy landlord scenario I posted earlier, |
why are all these auto scan that expensive? between 5-7k naira - is it only for a targeted few or what? I see d biz not different from that of a landlord who built 4 flats for a total cost of 10million and wants to collect 1.25M per annum per flat, . AUTOBOSS is top of its class - we know, but while charge up to 40 USD per scan? ![]() |
Don't be among the ignorant of technology.V6 is latest 21st technology. Erase the mentality of fuel consumption, what happens to V8 user.think big your introduction sef na wa, do you think its only fuel consumption that makes people run from a more than 4-cylinder engine? have u thought of mechanics? or u think because repairs for a 6-, or 8-cylinder engine overseas is easy thus same goes here?, guy have a rethink, how many mechanics are confident in handling more than 4-cylinder engines here in naija, , thats ignorance on ur path my guy, do the research and get back, if you are selling a 6 cylinder, sell, and close chapter I beg, |
I hope u are not surprised you r d only one here, u call this cheap? almost a million for how many yr old bus? if you add 300k to that u get a very good truck, Happy sales O! |
Seal777, Japanese models are a little different from the american specs, you can visibly see Japanese written on the timing belt cover. or the last service date in Japanese written there as well. or whether the timing belt had been changed. also, you could notice a difference in the bottom plate cover or strange iron bars around the engine. There is this belief that in Japan, automobiles are rarely used due to the cost of even driving it etc, they discourage people from using their own cars by these bills and fall for the alternatives as trains etc, (nice one if you ask me). Hence any automobile from Japan is assumed to be first grade often less than 100k miles for cars, thats why its more expensive. the best way to check an engine- Physically- check the oil quality, look at the oil cover cap, check underneath it if its clean of dirty. loose the plugs and check them. if possible ask your mechanic to check the compression blindly, since he might not have the real equipment to doing that, as I said in my last post, ask for more warranty time even if it would cost more, the seller would not want wahala, all d best. @ Siena n all, Get ready O, I would soon load up my experience so far with my newly acquired USED Benz C-class-, after using a Gen2 and Gen4 Camry, This one is rather an awesome experience, more to come shortly, |
what is the recommended battery amperage of this car pls. |
registered, a decade old, going for 1.4m, make =toyota rav 4, lord ve mercy! |
pls do this, go on ur own and negotiate a complete engine- (1st grade) seek for guarantee if possible, they always give though, but try to get an extended one, then the seller would know what to give u. (note, you are doing this without the mechanic's knowledge), if possible deposit smthn for the seller, (between 1-5k naira) Then get the feedback on the mechanic on what he plans to do on the engine b4 removing any bolt or nut from the engine, , then lets have the jist here for a review, give and take, new engine or former, your car should be ready this week if your budget is intact. |
''Meanwhile, i suspected some people are giving' out there cell numbers telling you guys they could help if your name is not out, i only want to tell you guys to never fall prey to any fraudsters. '''' Does this Engr Effiong has an office in Unilag?, is that phone an official one?, is there no Unilag website that can reference admission processes? I was expecting you to refer prospective students to admissions department or student affairs, wat do u tink? |
Hi Kunle, is this solely for Honda?, pls advice, and thanks alot for your support on this nairaland, also if you have good injector cleaners, you can ship down as well, |
what do you stand to gain -- cos everything here is free of charge, |
did you say 5-speed - AUTO? |
@ poster, lucky enough you ve gotten to lagos already. I do not know how competent your mechanic is, but sincerely as for me, if such should happen, I would have to visit Ladipo, and bargain for an excellent engine, its available- perhaps better than your own, even @ the 89k miles. Negotiate with them that what you require is a first grade, they know it, else you can do a test, compression etc, your mechanic once again if good, would know what to do. the reason is this, when you get unlucky with mechanics that tend to frustrate efforts in repairing - its so painful that you would regret ever taking such a repair decision. if you have a space in your house - put the old engine there in case you might need anything from it. all the best! |
@ ibnew - it shall be well with you, but just as the other guy said, It could also be a waste of time, lots of us are damn too greedy, the issue of tribes is smthn else in Nigerian politics, I wonder how we could move forward this way, sometimes I even think perhaps God did not design us to live together- especially north and south. But one thing is sure, these people that decides the fate of millions of Nigerians at odd hrs, God would arrest them sooner than you know it, To all Nairalanders, just make sure you- REGISTER, VOTE & STAND BY and let YOUR VOTE COUNT. in 2011. |
Tetleyauto:@ what price? |
@ German007- God bless you, I hope some members could learn from that, \ @ if you must own a car , I think I saw one advert here for a Mercedes Benz regular for that budget, the pic was fine, like I said if u must own a car now, u can search for that, all d best |
if thats the true Odometer reading, pls post the VIN - I would buy it @ that price without negotiating further |
